14 - The Performance

"What am I thinking of now?" Thomas asked. "Me," I said as I texted a friend.

We were playing this guessing game as Thomas drove me home from our date. We went to watch 'The Bourne Legacy' which starred Jeremy Renner. Ugghh.... Jeremy Renner!

It was really good! Thomas would throw popcorn at me sometimes, during the movie, which was really annoying. I have to watch a movie with full concentration and no distractions. I even find talking irritating. But Thomas wouldn't understand.

"Okay, now what am I thinking of?" He asked firmly. I sighed, "Me again."
He was so predictable. "This is a tricky one, you won't guess this. What am I thinking of now?" I could hear the frustration in his voice. He's so determined to win. But what can I do? He's too easy!

"Well, you're thinking of... My eyes, my hair, my lips, my face. Basically me. Thomas I think we should do something else," I said as I started to play with the radio.

"Wait wait wait. How the hell did you guess that I was thinking of your eyes? Are you psychic?" Thomas exclaimed a bit. I laughed, "No I'm not psychic! You looked at me... You were probably trying to find something about me. Trying to trick me... But you failed."

Thomas huffed and stayed quiet. I giggled and pinched his cheek, which made him smiled. He starting tickling me, one hand on the wheel and the other making me laugh to death.

"Tho-mas! Pl-pl...ease stop! See? My we reached my house. Now st-stop!" I was in tears. I'm extremely ticklish and Thomas knows that.

Thomas stopped right outside my building. I was about to go out when Thomas held my hand. "Hey El, I was wondering... You know how I play bass guitar and that my family and I perform at a bar. Would you like to come? We're performing on Saturday," Thomas asked. I kissed his cheek and replied, "Of course! I would love to come!"

"Okay, so see you Saturday then!"

This is going to be exciting. I can't wait to see Tommy perform. I've never actually seen him play any instrument or perform on stage. There's YouTube but... That can't beat the real thing!

"What should I wear... Let's see," I scavanged through my wardrobe for something perfect. Not too fancy, but cute at the same time!

"Nope. Nope. No way! Oh nice... Nope!" I huffed as I threw my clothes all around. Just a towel was wrapped around me. It felt as if it would come off any second.

I finally found the perfect outfit! A white top, with a frilly-thing at the bottom, it looked like a mini dress, and black tights. For shoes, black and white striped pencil heels, and a hand purse.

I made myself pretty by covering my face with make up. Not a lot of course! I'm a true believer of natural beauty!

I looked at myself in the mirror for the last time. I was speechless. I was starting to fall in love with myself, no joke!

I looked at the time and it was 4:45 PM. I'm supposed to reach the place at 5 to 5:15 PM. I walked out my door and locked it behind me. I double-checked to make sure that I had my phone, my lipstick, chewing gum and whatever else I needed. Chewing gum is life!

I put on my wooly, grey trench coat because it was freezing. I hailed a cab and sat inside. Soon, I was on my way to the bar.

**********

I paid the cab driver and walked towards the bar. I could see from the window that there were quite a few people inside. I messaged Thomas that I reached and asked him where he was.

TING! (SMS ringtone)

From: Sangster (Tommy)
Hey! That's great! I'm inside near the stage. You'll see me... xx

Okay so I'll see him. I'm kind of nervous because I'd be meeting his parents for the first time and I don't think they know about me and Thomas. Not sure if he told...

As soon as I step into the bar, I get hit with the smell of drinks and food, and the sounds of conversations and instruments getting tuned. I was a bit uncomfortable because I don't usually come to these places but the fact that Thomas was here relaxed me. I'll be even more relaxed as soon as I find him.

I looked around for the one guy that always cheered me up and found him standing near the stage, towards the back. He had a guitar in his hand, probably bass.

I walled quickly towards him and exclaimed in happiness, "Thomas! Hi! So glad to see you!" Thomas turned to me and had the biggest smile plastered on his face.

"Hey El! It's great to see you too! I'm glad you made it," he hugged me with one hand and kissed my cheek. "Can I just say that you look fabulous," he whispered into my ear. I felt his warm breath on my neck, which made me tingle. I just smiled.

"OH MY GOD ELLIE! Thomas didn't tell me that you'll be here!" I was alarmed by a rather loud and familiar voice of a girl. I turned around and saw the one and only, Ava Sangster.

"Oh Ava, you frightened me! I'm so happy to see you!" I said and hugged her. We had met before, on one of me and Thomas' date. What happened was that no body was at home and because Ava doesn't know about us, she tagged along. It was fine actually. She's such a nice person! I get along really well with her! I'm pretty sure she has some idea about me and Thomas...

"I don't want to sound rude but, what are you doing here?" Ava asked. Thomas nodded at me and walked away. He wanted us girls to talk to one each other. "Well, Tommy invited me. I couldn't refuse... anyways, why would I? It would be great to see you guys perform."

"So this is his idea of a 'date'? He should have taken you for a movie or some..." Ava started but I interrupted her. "He has actually! Many ti-" I didn't even realise what came out of my mouth. I didn't think it through. Ava had this evil grin on her face. Oh God...

"Calm down! I know all about your 'secret relationship' with Thomas. I mean, you guys are madly in love! When I say madly, I mean MADLY! It shows in your eyes..." Ava revealed and I couldn't help but smile. It was true, we really love each other. I love Thomas more than any other guy I've ever met, and I've met many!

"Just please, keep it to yourself for a bit. The world doesn't know... yet," I said. Ava smirked, "You're secret is safe with me! Anyways, I'll tell you all the embarrassing things Thomas does and his bad habits and all his secrets!" She sounded like some mischievous kid plotting an evil plan.

"Hey Ellie! I'd like you to meet my mom, Tasha, and my dad, Mark," Thomas introduced. Standing next to him was a lady and a man, both had a kind face and a big smile. They shook my hand and then Thomas' mom said, "Mark and I are so happy to have finally met you. Thomas talks on and on about you, and I can see why! You're very pretty!"

I felt my cheeks get hot. Oh God, not now! I tried to smile it off but I don't think it was working. "Well I... Thank you! I'm so glad we met! I'm looking forward to your performance tonight. It's going to be brilliant!"

Tasha smiled, "Anyways, we'll talk a little later. Ava, I have to fix you up! Come along!" I heard Ava sigh. Thomas' dad walked onto the stage, towards the drums. I'm guessing he plays drums.

"So... you excited about the performance?" Thomas was trying to have a conversation. I just kissed him on the cheek, "Of course I am! Why wouldn't I be? It will be great... you'll be great."

Thomas looked to the ground, blushing. He was adorable! He kissed my cheek and walked to the stage. He set up his bass and got ready. I took a seat on one of the empty tables that was close to the front. Tasha and Ava walked on stage and they looked amazing!

"Hello everyone! I'm happy to see you all here tonight. I hope everyone is having a lovely time! We will be performing 1 song for now, then a few later," Tasha announced. I saw her nod to Thomas.

Thomas started playing and I instantly fell in love. The way he played the bass was just... unbelievable! It was so catchy! Ughhh I just love the sound of the bass guitar! God he looked so... sexy!

He winked at me and smiled. I couldn't control the happiness which covered my face. Being here, watching Thomas, this moment... It was the best thing ever. For the rest of the performance I was in awe.

Everyone applauded after the song ended. It was brilliant, just like I thought it would be! He walked towards me and smiled, "So how was it? Any good?" I just hugged him tight. I didn't know what to say, I was speechless. "It was bloody brilliant Tommy! Amazing amazing amazing!" I exclaimed in happiness.

"Well I'm glad you liked it. Umm... I wanted to ask you something. More than ask, I want to invite you... invite you to perform!"

Okay, I'm confused. Did he just ask me to perform? Why, how, what, where... huh?

"What? You want me to perform? NO WAY NO WAY! I'm no performer! I just... Nope, I'm not doing it!" I virtually yelled. All the happiness on my face suddenly disappeared. "Oh come on, you have to! I've heard you sing and it's phenomenal! Please Ellie, for me?" Thomas pouted. God he's so...

I sighed, "UGHHH FINE! I'll do it!" I stomped towards the stage but then stopped. What the hell was I going to perform?

"Umm Thomas, what am I singing?" I asked. Thomas thought for a while then replied, "Anything you want. I'll have to check if the others know how to play. So, which song?"

I have know idea. What should I perform? There are so many songs, so many types. What should I choose?

"Well... I love the song 'She's The One' by Robbie Williams. I don't know..." I said. I just LOVE that song. I could listen to it a billion times!

"Okay great! That's great! Awesome! I'll check if they can play the song," Thomas said and starting walking towards the stage, but I stopped him. "Okay, I'll perform but on one condition," I started. Thomas had this frightened look on his face. "You have to sing with me."

There was silence between us for a good five seconds. "Uh well-umm... I... Yeah okay fine. FINE!" Thomas said in a rush. I smiled and followed him towards the stage.

Thomas started talking to the rest of the band and I just stood there awkwardly. A few moments later he gave me the 'thumbs up'. I swallowed hard. I hope I don't mess this up.

Thomas held my hand and we walked onto the stage. The pianist, drummer and guitarist were ready. Thomas was just setting his bass up.

Everything infront of me was dim. The purple spotlight on me made me the centre of attention. I looked back at Thomas who just smiled. I tapped the microphone to see if it was working okay. I cleared my throat and introduced myself.

"Hi umm, I'm Ellie Canterbury and I'll be performing a song for you tonight. I've never performed here or on stage so... hopefully this will go well! I'll be singing 'She's The One' by Robbie Williams," I nervously said as I fidgeted with my hands. I waited for the music to start and then when the time was right, I started singing.

I was her, she was me
We were one, we were free
And if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

We were young, we were wrong
We were fine all along
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling

When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna play
You'll be so high
You'll be flying

Though the sea will be strong, I know we'll carry on
'Cos if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling

When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna play
You'll be so high
You'll be flying

I was her, she was me
We were one, we were free
And if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one, yeah she's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one, she's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one, she's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
She's the one

Everyone applauded and cheered. I looked back at Thomas who was grinning. I looked back at the audience once more before I walked off the stage.

"That was so good! Never doubt yourself. You're bloody amazing!" Thomas said and he kissed my forehead. "Thanks Tommy," I said.

"OH MY GOD ELLIE! That was awesome! You're such a good singer!" Ava excitedly expressed and then hugged me. Tasha was behind her and she put a hand on my shoulder, "That was really good dear. You should perform more often!"

I was exploding in happiness by all these comments. Wow, I never thought it would be that good! I talked with Tasha and Ava for a while. They then walked away to leave me and Thomas alone.

We just looked into each other's eyes till Thomas held my hand and pulled me along to wherever he was going. We stopped at the bar and Thomas sat down. I was hesitant at first but then followed.

"Hello, what can I get you two?" A bartender said and Thomas looked at me. "Oh I'm fine. I don't want anything," I said. Thomas rolled his eyes, "One pint please."

The bartender returned with a glass full and placed it infront of Thomas. He took a sip and I just watched. A foam mustache appeared on his upper lip. It was hilarious!

"What? What's wrong?" Thomas said with confusion. "Y-you got s-something on your face!" I laughed. I couldn't control myself. I took a tissue and wiped his mouth as if he was some little kid.

"Thanks. You want some?" He asked as he held the glass infront of me. I immediately said no. I didn't plan to drink any alcohol tonight! Thomas just shrugged and continued to drink.

We took a few pics. They were adorable! I could see Ava, Tasha and Mark sitting on a table in the distance.

Suddenly, music started playing. It was slow and calm, something you'd dance to. Thomas held my hands and walked me towards the stage.

There was a band playing on stage, it was instrumental. The whole room was lit blue and there were many couples dancing.

Thomas pulled me till we were facing each other. He stepped closer to me and put his hands on my waist. "What are we doing?" I whispered into his ear. "We're dancing," he whispered back. The hairs on my neck stood up.

"But your family is here. What would they think?" I asked worriedly. Thomas smiled, "It's time they know about us." I thought for a second but then just went it.

"Okay, if that's the case..." I wrapped my arms around Thomas' neck and kissed him on the lips. Well, he kind of asked for it.

Our lips moved in sync as we slow-danced to the music. It felt as if the whole world was staring, but did I care? Nope, not one bit!

I broke away to catch my breath. Our foreheads touched and we smiled. We both wanted this for a long time. This was so nice! It's just the two of us together.

This has been such an amazing evening. I got to see Thomas and his family perform on stage, I performed which was unexpected and I got to have some alone time with Thomas. What could be better?

*Thomas' POV*

I entered my house and locked the door behind me. I just dropped Ellie home after a flawless evening. It was... WOW! Everything was perfect! I don't think anything can ruin my day.

I took off my shoes and walked to the fridge to get a drink. I grabbed the carton of juice and poured myself a glass. Just then, I heard a phone ring.

"Hey Toms, could you check who messaged?" I heard Ava shout from a distance. I looked at her phone and answered, "It's a message from Ellie."

I know I shouldn't but I was so curious to know what they were talking about. I mean, when there's a message saying:

AWW That's cute!! So glad you got that! Thnx for sending! :)

One becomes extremely curious. The phone buzzed again while I held it. Now it said:

Does he know? Will he be angry?

Okay I need to know. I debated whether I should check her messages or not but, my evil side won. I unlocked Ava's phone and looked at her Whatsapp messages from Ellie.

Ava had sent a video. It looked really familiar. Maybe I should...

I clicked on the video and was shocked at what I saw. It was Ellie and I dancing. We were kissing. The video was shaky but what was happening was clear... too clear.

I can't believe it! AVA! I'M GOING TO KILL HER! HOW DARE SHE TAKE A VIDEO?!

"What are you doing? You know you-" Ava said as she dried her hair with a towel. "What is this? WHAT IS THIS?! How could you take a video of us?!" I yelled. Ava looked shocked.

"Well, I just wanted... Its cute. You both are cute together. I thought you'd want to remember that moment. Don't get pissed off-" She said but I interrupted her again.

"Wait you sent it to her! How could you send it to her?! Why Ava, WHY? What have I ever bloody done to you? She probably hates me! She's probably-" I panicked.

Ava walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder, "Chill! Yes I did send it to her, and yes I should have asked you but... It was so adorable I just had to! Anyways, judging by the message above, she loved it!"

She pointed at the screen, at the previous message. She did say that it was cute. Well then...

I sat down on the sofa, "I'm sorry Ava. I just- I love her so much that I don't want our relationship to be ruined. I hope you understand."

"Of course I do. Don't worry, I'll ask you before I do anything related to your relationship. Ellie's so perfect for you! You guys are meant to be. I won't ruin it," Ava smiled and walked off, taking her phone with her.

I was left alone in the room. I felt so stupid to freak out like that. Everything is perfect right now. I have a strong feeling that it'll get better...
