Midoriya felt suprisingly energized in the morning, despite his magic intertwining with his body. Usually, it left him feeling drained, and extremely tired. Not that he would complain, this was much better than feeling to tired to do anything at all. He could still feel the magic pulsing through his body, leaving a tingly feeling in the tips of his fingers. It was a good tingle, he definitely liked the feeling. It painted a bright smile on his face, capable of blinding someone who started at it too long. His smile was always like that, when he was younger people would say that he was a bundle of sunshine. Not so much now, since he used dark magic.
Now, today just so happened to be the day of the entrance exam for UA, which only added to his postitve feeling. Of course, it also made him nervous, seeing as there was a good chance he might fail it, but he was mainly excited. This was his chance to obtain his dream of being a hero! He wasn't going to back down from it so quickly. So, there he was, getting all his magical gear ready. He slid his robes onto his shoulders, dark fabric drapping down to his knees. He tied his necklace in the back, securing it around his neck. His pale fingers wrapped around his staff, the same one he had made in the cafe. He placed his backpack on his shoulders, and ensured he had everything he needed. Once he had all his gear, he left his bedroom.
He waved to his mom, who was making breakfast in the kitchen, "Morning Mom!! Breakfast smells good!" She turned to look at him, "Oh, good morning Izuku. What're you all dressed up for?" She asked, pointing out his outfit. Midoriya laughed, "Remember Mom? Today's the entrance exam!!" His mother sighed, "Do you really have to bring all of your magic stuff with you?" He simply nodded, taking one of the two plates from off the counter. Nothing he said would convince his mother that his magic wasn't all bad. He was used to it by now. She just couldn't accept that magic was part of him, especially since it was dark magic. Midoriya didn't mind that.
After he finished his food, he waved his mom goodbye and ran out the door with a wide smile. 'This is it!! All my hard work is finally gonna pay off!!' He thought, as he navigated his way to UA. The wind was blowing as he ran, and he had to hold onto his hat with one hand to keep it from flying away. It tickled his face, and Midoriya allowed for his bell-like laughter to slip out of his mouth. The wind felt refreshing against his skin, even with his robes blocking some of it. His green hair waved wildly in the wind, making the young witch look much more wild than he really was. Most people avoided getting in his way, although some people from the cafe waved to him as he passed. He waved back to them, his laughter ringing out full of excitement.
He stopped in front of UA, eyes wide with amazment. The building was huge, even in his darkness beast form he would seem like an ant compared to it! It was shaped like an 'H', which only increased his amazment. How where they able to balance that without support beams or some sort of quirk? The walls were made of glass panals that gave off a blue hue. The structure looked amazing. His mouth opened and closed like a fish's might, as he searched for words. "Woah.... It's even cooler in person..!!!" He swore his eyes would be sparkling if it weren't for the cloud of darkness filling them.
Swallowing the lump in his throat, he took a step forward, now hyper aware of the sound of his boots on the concrete sidewalk. The sound echoed throughout his ears, covering up any doubtful thoughts that might have ran through his minds. He pushed open the giant door to the aduitorium. There were crowds of people, all unique from each other. It was to be expected that they all seemed so different. After all, with quirks, the unimaginable became real. Bright colors popped in his vision, and he found himself in amazment at the diversity of everyone there. After a few moments, he realized that without his witch outfit, he'd probably seem rather plain.
Midoriya sat down in his seat, which happened to be right next to Bakugou. That was just his luck, huh? The one person in his class who didn't fear him for his dark magic. Also the person who practically abused him physically and verbally. How great.. Midoriya took a shaky breath as he turned away from Bakugou. His emerald eyes turned to look at the desk, and he flinched when he heard Bakugou say, "Stupid fucking witch, I told you not to come to the entrance exams!!" Midoriya's breath hitched, and he said, "d-didn't y-your l-lackeys tell y-you n-not to m-m-mess with me..? I-I h-have m-magic, y'know..." Bakugou 'tch'ed, and said, "Whatever, it doesn't matter. A quirkless nobody will never get into UA"
Midoriya turned his attention to Present Mic, who had walked onto the stage. He was one of Midoriya's favorite heroes, which said something seeing as Midoriya liked most pros. "HELLO LITTLE LISTENERS, WELCOME TO THE ENTERANCE EXAM!!!" Present Mic shouted, "CAN I GET A YEAH?!" He was met by silence, which seemed to upset him slightly. Now, Midoriya usually wouldn't do something like this, with how awkward and shy he was, but in Midoriya's rush of exictment, he yelled back, "YEAAH!" he didn't even register the embaressment in the back of his mind. You, on the other hand, can suffer through the second hand embarassment.
If that practically made Present Mic's day, no one had to know.
"WE ARE GOING TO START WITH A WRITTEN EXAM!! THE TESTS SHOULD BE AT YOUR TABLE, SO LET'S GET STARTED!!" Present Mic annonced. The students looked on their desks, and sure enough, there was a small packet of papers there. Everyone got started on the tests, some annoyed that they had to do a written test. Not Midoriya, though. Midoriya was one for information and analysis. This test would be a breeze for him. However, he was worried about the practical. It seemed pretty illogical, he had some powerful spells for sure. Thing is, he had no idea what the practical exam would be. Plus, while he did practice his spells alot, he almost never used them in a real situation. Actually, the only time he used his spells out of practice recently was when he fought Uraraka.
The written portion was easy for Midoriya. Most of the questions were academic, and while they were a bit above the avarage level for their grade, Midoriya had studied ahead specifically for the entrance exam. There were also quirk related and hero related questions, which was something he almost always studied. He was passionate about heros and quirks, about as passionate as he was with magic. He finished within the first few minutes, and placed his head in his arms, his hat falling over onto his face. The hat blocked out the light, surrounding his vision with darkness. The darkness was nice, he felt comfortable with it hugging his mind. He had always liked the dark, for as long as he could remember.
No one disturbed the young witch, too focused on their tests. Midoriya was grateful for that, he liked the peace and quiet. "ALRIGHT, TIMES UP!!" Present Mic yelled, cutting through Midoriya's mind. He jumped up, fixing his hat in an instant, before he managed to bring his focus back to Present Mic. He noticed that the test was no longer on his desk, and assumed that the teachers must've already collected them. (He had assumed correctly, they were amazed that he had finished so fast, with so many correct answers) "NOW, I'LL EXPLAIN THE PRACTICAL EXAM!!" Present Mic cheered.
"FOR THIS EXAM, YOU WILL BE FIGHTING ROBOTS!! EACH TYPE OF ROBOT HAS A NUMBER OF POINTS!!" Three different robots appeared on the screen behind him, each labeled with a different number. A one-pointer, a two pointer, and a three-pointer. "WHEN YOU DEFEAT A ROBOT, YOU'LL GET THAT NUMBER OF POINTS!! THE MORE POINTS YOU HAVE, THE BETTER! AND OF COURSE, PLAYING ANTI-HERO ISN'T ALLOWED, SO DON'T ATTACK OTHER EXAMINEES!!" Midoriya swore that he caught an angry glare from Bakugou at that.
A blue haired boy stood up abruptly, pushing up the glasses that rested on his nose. "Excuse me, Present Mic, but this packet shows four robots!! You have only mentioned three!! If this is a mistake, UA should be ashamed!! As the number one hero school, we all expected better from you!!" He said, waving his arms robotically. He then pointed towards Midoriya, much to the young witch's discomfort. He then yelled, "And you, with the pointed hat!! You've been mumbling this whole time!! And then you slept through most of the written exam!! Plus, we're supposed to use rely on our own abilities, and yet you plan on using all that equipment!! Someone so disrespectful shouldn't be allowed to become a hero!"
Midoriya tilted his head ever so slightly, gripping his staff as he said, "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize I was mumbling. Force of habit, really. Although, I had already finished the written exam before that. I wasn't even actually asleep..... And, I don't feel very comfortable without my staff... I'm sorry if it bothers you, but I already had it all registered... I wasn't trying to get on your nerves, I swear!" The blue haired boy mouthed an "oh", before sitting down again. Midoriya shook away all thoughts that agreed with the boy's final statement of Midoriya not being allowed to be a hero. He didn't need more self-doubt to ruin his happy mood.
Present Mic sweatdropped at the interaction, before clearing his throat, "Settle down, little listeners.. As for the fourth robot, I was just about to get too that!! This is the zero-pointer!!" An image of the robot appeared on the screen, "Like the name suggests, it doesn't give you any points!! Plus, it's really hard to destroy!! Think of it more as an obstacle!!! That's all for the explainations!! PLUS ULTRA!!!" A few other people echoed the phrase back, Midoriya included. (When he looked back on this day, he would feel incredibly embarassed) The students left the auditorium, each of them going to different areanas. Luckily for Midoriya, he had a different areana than Bakugou. He guessed that the teachers didn't want students from the same schools to work together. Either way, the young witch wouldn't have to deal with his most prominate bully during the exam.
His eyes roamed the area, and landed on a familiar, brown haired girl. "Oh.. She's taking the exams too, huh?" Midoriya mumbled. He felt a strong hand on his shoulder, and flinched away instinctively. He turned around, only to see the blue haired boy from earlier, with a stern look on his face. "You were planning on going over to bother that girl, weren't you? Can't you see that she's trying to concentrate. Do you have no shame?" He said, chopping his arms around mid-air. Midoriya flinched at every chop, "um, actually.... I j-just recognized h-her... I wasn't g-gonna bother h-her..." He didn't seem to buy it, but just then, Present Mic called out "GO!!!", and the gates opened up. Midoriya ran through the crowd to the gates.
Everyone else stayed put, confused. "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! THERE ARE NO COUNT DOWNS IN REAL BATTLES!!! GO GO GO!!!" Present Mic yelled. They finally got the message, and ran through the gates after Midoriya. The young witch was surrounded by 3-pointers, and he came to the realization that most of his spells wouldn't help him in this situation (his shadow was too small to manipulate as it was mid-day, and trap spells would do no good. The rest of his spells were either enhancements, or only affected people.) In a split second decision, he muttered a quick spell, and began morphing into his darkness beast once more. He would later on note that the horns securing his hat to his head had changed slightly, now securing his star shaped pin, but not covering it.
He growled at the robots that were now smaller than him, crushing them with his claws. Unlike the last time he had transformed, he was still in control of himself. That was usually the case. What had happened in the cafe was a one time thing. He looked around, seeing that most of the other robots in the area had been destroyed by someone else. He wasn't going to steal someone else's points. That wouldn't be very heroic. He ran throughout the areana, searching for any other robots he could destroy. Unfortunately, the young witch didn't get too many more points before a loud rumble made itself known to the examinees.
Midoriya knew for a fact that he wasn't the one behind the sound, and it sounded much too large to be one of the examinees. His head whipped around to see a giant robot that towered over all the buildings there. "Woah... That's amazing, but also terrifying.." He mumbled, although his voice sounded something like a low growl. Everyone scrambled to get away from the metal beast, but he was glued to his place, staring in awe. Until he heard someone yell "Help me!" In a second, he was running towards the sound, only to see Uraraka trapped under rubble, the robot seconds away from stomping her into a pancake.
He growled at it, and ran in, grabing the robot's foot with his clawed hands. The foot pressed down still, and it took all of the young witch's strength and then some to hold it up. His claws dug into the metal, some dents would probably be left. His claws were in pain, and he would swear he felt a warm liquid dripping down his arms. His legs were strained as well, it felt like he could colapse right on the spot. But he refused to, if he did, Uraraka would get hurt because of it. So he endured the pain, and continued pushing back with all his strength. The foot stopped moving, and Midoriya pushed the robot away just as Present Mic yelled "TIME IS UP!!" Midoriya turned to look at Uraraka, only to see her unconsious under the rubble. Midoriya pushed the rubble off her using his remaining strength. He shrunk back into his normal form.
