Chapter 6
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Dr. Jarson looked up at me, his eyes giving away his mild irritation.
"Oh did I distract you, sir?" I questioned.
He ignored me.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
"Ok Kyle, I'll finish what I was doing later. What did you want?" he asked, exasperated as we sat in his office.
"I came here to help, not go to these classes where teachers are literally teaching things I've learnt when I was three."
Dr. Jarson sighed. "Look. I'll show you our lead eventually but I can't just yet."
"Why the hell not?" I asked.
"Because you and your team need to work together. I can't have you ruining this opportunity we have because of pride or trying to prove you're better off alone, Kyle."
"But I am better off alone, don't you see. This is ridiculous. I won't waste my time here anymore if it's pointless. I came here to avenge my family and if you won't let me help you, then I'll do it on my own."
Dr. Jarson looked at me for a long time before he opened his drawer and took out a device.
Clicking a button, he said. "Zoey, Robert, Des. Report to my office immediately."
I raised my eyebrow. "Why do you need them? I'm really not in the mood to deal with them, especially Zoey. How anyone can deal with her is beyond me."
Dr. Jarson chuckled slightly. "You two are amusing."
"Amusing?"
"Yes, amusing."
I rolled my eyes. "Can I at least have a decent team? If they are your best then you should reconsider what you're doing."
"Let me run my school my way."
I shrugged. "Just trying to be helpful."
Before Dr. Jarson could reply, Zoey Robert and Des walked in.
"What uppppppppp." Des called out, taking a seat in one of the couches in the office.
"Be careful Des. Wouldn't want you breaking the secret voice recorder Dr. Jarson has under that couch."
Robert looked at Dr. Jarson who was glaring at me. "I thought you said this was a 'bug free room'."
"It is." Dr. Jarson replied.
Zoey crossed her arms. "Then why is there a voice recorder and why did you even hide it?"
"Does it matter?"
"Yes it does!" Des said.
I chuckled. "How can you guys have not noticed? It's so obvious."
The room was silent, everyone looking at me.
I shook my head. "If you can't even tell that a room is bugged then you have no chance surviving out there."
"What is your problem!? What do you mean we can't survive? We've been surviving this whole time, haven't we?" Zoey argued, eyes blazing.
"Surviving? You've been hiding, that's what you're doing. You call this training, having combats? It's pointless. You've been sheltering yourself from the real world. You don't know how hard it is out there, having to watch your back every single second."
Zoey took a step towards me. "You know Kyle, you are so absorbed in your own world, so self preserved that you don't know what the hell you're saying. Don't you think we've been through our own things? Do you think that you're the only one whose suffered because of The Defenders?"
I looked at her, my jaws clenched. Zoey Zimmers was the only girl that has gotten this deep under my skin.
"Ok guys, break it up." Des said.
"Forever the peace maker, aren't you." I said sarcastically.
Des winked. "You know it."
Zoey closed her eyes, trying to compose herself as I smirked.
"Why did you call us here?" Robert asked.
Dr. Jarson looked at the four of us. "Zoey, don't you want to prove to Kyle that you and your team are and have always been ready for the 'real world' as he puts it?"
Zoey scoffed. "I don't need to prove anything to him."
Des interrupted. "I want to prove it!"
Dr. Jarson nodded. "Well I'm about to test you all."
I scoffed. "Test me?"
"All of you, as a team."
"What are we going to do?" Zoey questioned.
"You guys are going on a mission."
******
"This is freaking ridiculous." I muttered as Des belted to some song on the radio.
"This is how it is every single time." Zoey said.
I glared at the road in front of me, arms crossed as Zoey drove next to me.
As the singer on the radio started hitting high notes, Des proceeded to try to hit the notes as well.
"Can you stop? It might hurt your feelings but you have not been gifted with a good voice." I told Des.
He ignored me.
I don't like being ignored. I closed my eyes then opened them. I reached towards the radio player to decrease the volume but Des stopped me.
"I'll just turn it back on."
So I turned to face him, gave him a smile then turned back around and punched the radio player.
It shattered into pieces.
"Dude why did you do that?" Des accused.
I shrugged. "I was in the mood. It was either that or your face so be grateful."
Des started muttering under his breath. I caught the words jealous and barbaric.
As we drove by in the mini van, I looked out the window. It wasn't everyday that you pass by New York. I looked at the many buildings and outrageous customs everyone was wearing. The smell of hotdogs reached my nose as I heard people calling others towards their stores.
"So Rob, you don't talk much do you?" I said, looking towards him.
He was reading a book and didn't bother looking up. "Sure."
"You emo or something?"
He nodded. "You can say that."
Again the van was quiet.
"Lets play a game." Des suggested.
Zoey groaned. "No. Your games are literally the worst."
"Kyle, you know any games that could be played in a car?"
I ignored him.
"Okaaaay. Lets play I spy."
"No." All three of us deadpanned.
"Geez, tough crowd."
More silence.
Sighing, I said. "I know a game we can play."
Zoey rolled her eyes. "Yippee."
"Ignore her." Des said. "What's the game?"
"It's simple. My family and I used to play it all the time when I was younger. All you have to do is look at a stranger and guess anything about them. Who they are, where they are going, how they're feeling. Anything."
"That sounds like a stupid game." Zoey said.
"Then don't play. Just because you don't have the mental capacity to connect dots and come up with a conclusion doesn't mean the game is stupid."
Des interrupted our argument. "Ok. I'll start."
He looked out the window, spotting a man that was driving next to us.
Des took a second to look at him closely while I did the same.
"He is married and has four kids. Driving to the store to buy milk and bread. Probably trying to surprise his kids with Kit Kat. He works as a police man and he is probably into old music."
I nodded my head. "Impressive. Maybe you guys aren't so hopeless. Now you have to explain how you know all that."
"Well it's simple. Look at his finger, you can see a ring. Now look at the dash board." Des said, pointing.
I turn towards it to see an open wallet. Although humans might not have spotted what was inside, it was simple for us.
"It's a family picture of his wife and four kids. Now if you look closely, you can see a list on his lap. I only noticed it because he kept glancing down."
I look towards his lap and see the list myself.
"It's a grocery list. He has already canceled a few things which means he is done buying them. But milk and bread are still on the list." Des went on.
"How do you know he is going to surprise his kids with Kit Kat?" Robert asked, suddenly interested in the game.
"Look at the handwriting. Everything on the list is written messily like a child would write. They probably wrote it together, mom telling the child what to write. But at the bottom of the list, the handwriting changes. It is messy but not in a cursive clean kind that a woman would use but a fiercer, barely understandable way a man would write."
Robert nodded. "You're right!"
Des nodded. "And look at the question mark after that. It suggests that he isn't really sure if he should buy it or not. If he does, it's probably to surprise his kids."
Before Des could go on, the cars started moving and the car with the man inside took a left turn and was gone.
"Darn it!" Des muttered.
"No go on. I memorized the whole car. I remember details. We are Zerians, we all remember small details." I said.
"Well did you notice the police badge on the passengers seat?" I nodded. "That explains that and oh the donuts there as well. How cliche."
Zoey chuckled. I asked. "What about the old music?"
Des shrugged. "I just guessed that."
Everyone chuckled as I sat back properly, facing the road. "You aren't half bad."
Des scoffed. "And you can do better."
I smirked. "I can actually. I'll prove that another day but we have other matters at hand. I don't know about you guys but I don't like being followed."
Zoey cursed. "I knew that car was following us."
Des turned around, scanning cars before turning back. "The black Mercedes?"
I nodded. "Any idea who they might be?"
Des shook his head. "No idea."
Robert perked up. "How do you know they're following us? I mean we can't just jump to conclusions."
I rolled my eyes, irritated. "I hope you're kidding because it's so obvious."
Before Robert could reply, Des interrupted. "We don't have time for this. Zoey, try losing them."
She didn't need to be told twice. Making a sharp left turn, we changed lanes. And they followed.
"Yup. They are so following us." Robert muttered while taking something out of his bag.
"What are you doing?" I asked. He ignored me.
Instead he took out a weapon. It wasn't a gun but it was similar. Before I could ask him what it was, Zoey turned left. Into an alley.
"Are you trying to get us killed?" Des yelled, trying not to hit his head.
"I'm trying to lose them." Zoey muttered, eyes focused.
"It's a dead end!" Des yelped.
"How." Zoey started, heading straight for the wall.
"Would." She made the car go faster.
"You." Zoey continued as Robert yelled.
Then she took an unexpected right turn. With a smirk, she finished. "Know."
Des sighed. "I so had faith in you."
"Sure you did." Zoey replied, rolling her eyes. She continued and soon we were on an actual road with cars.
"How did you know about that place?" Robert wondered.
"I researched." She shrugged.
"Impressive." I muttered.
Zoey glanced at me. "Was that a compliment?"
"Keep dreaming."
"Um sorry to interrupt but we didn't lose them." Des interrupted.
I looked behind me to see the same Mercedes. "How the heck..." Zoey started.
"Don't try to lose him. I have an idea." Robert said.
Des shook his head. "We haven't even started the actual mission and this happens."
"What's your plan, Robert?" I asked Robert.
"Call me Rob." Was his reply.
I rolled me eyes. "I'm sorry dear Rob your majesty, what is your genius plan?"
"Just get in front of the car Zoey."
Zoey nodded but I interrupted. "Wait what's your plan?"
"Just trust me." Rob replied.
"Trust you? Ya, no thank you."
"Just trust him Kyle." Des interrupted.
I bit my lips and sat back down. Lets see what this team can do.
Zoey managed to get the van in front of the Mercedes. Rob took out the object he took out earlier that looked like a gun.
I looked as he pressed a button and the bottom of the handle opened. Rob then proceed to insert something.
"This is a new invention I've been working on. It's similar to a gun." Rob explained.
He opened the window. Aiming, he fired. No sound came out but when I looked back at the Mercedes I noticed that it had stopped moving.
"What did you do?" Zoey asked, impressed.
"I shot their tire."
I scoffed. "Nothing a gun couldn't do. Or a sharp weapon."
Rob ignored me and took out a few equipments from the back. "Des, come here I'm not good with numbers."
They sat side by side as Rob showed him a few things. "I shot twice. One was aimed at the tire and the other one, it doesn't do any damage, was at the hood of the car."
Des nodded. "So what do you want me to do?"
"Well the one I aimed at the hood, you can enable it to hear what they are saying."
"That's not impressive. You can do that by bugging the car. Humans can even do that." I said.
Rob nodded. "That's true but unlike a bug, this one has better quality. I aimed for the hood but you can hear everything they are saying while they are inside or a few meters away from the car. But Caleb helped me with that part because he is good with technology and all. I need you to do whatever voodoo magic he did."
Des nodded and grabbed the equipment. He tapped a few buttons and before we knew it, he was done.
Rob plugged in ear phones. "Lets see who they are."
He adjusted a few things, pressing a few buttons then closed his eyes. "I can hear them."
"What are they saying?" Zoey demanded.
"Wait."
We waited a few minutes before Rob said. "They are working for the Defenders. Apparently they recognized Kyle."
I frowned. "How did they even see me? We can see out of the car but no one can see in."
"They saw you during our five minute stop at the gas station." Robert replied.
"Great. Now I have to wear some sort of mask like Thor."
"He doesn't wear a mask." Des replied.
"Excuse me for not wasting brain cells on dumb shows."
"What else are they saying?" Zoey asked, before Des could reply.
"Why don't you just take off the headphones so we can all listen?" I asked.
"It's not possible." Robert replied.
Why did his voice rise a little?
Des laughed. "It is. Give it to me."
"Wait. Be quiet." Rob said.
We all stayed silent. Then Rob shrugged. "They are speaking in another language. I think German."
"Give me the headphones. I'm fluent in German." I said, reaching for the equipments.
Rob hesitated but handed it to me. I didn't fail to notice him press a button.
I put on the headphones. And then nothing.
"I can't hear anything." I said.
Robert shrugged. "Maybe we are too far away. I haven't really tested it much."
I was about to protest but Zoey interrupted. "Look, we have more important things to worry about." She said as she parked the car.
I looked up at the huge building that was across the street.
"Let's get this over with." Zoey muttered.
I handed Rob the equipments. Des went to the back of the van and got his laptop. It wasn't an ordinary one although it looked like it was. He designed it himself and, obviously, it's better than the best computer a human can make.
"Ok." Zoey started, facing us all. "Rob, hand us our weapons."
He took out a thin, small device and handed it to Zoey. He then gave me a circular object.
He pointed at the device he gave Zoey. "Press that button over there and it will become a sword. I know how you're comfortable with those."
Zoey nodded. "Great."
Looking at me, he said. "You should use that only if you are caught. It will create a noise so loud that it'll bring you to your feet, probably render you deaf. Which is why the ear pieces you are getting will have a special installment that will block out the noise. So you two are safe."
I nodded. "Splendid."
"Ok I hacked into the security." Des said, clicking away.
"Can you see where they are keeping them?" I asked.
Des bit his lips. "This might take a few minutes."
"How many minutes exactly?" Zoey asked.
"We don't have that much time." Zoey said.
I rolled my eyes as Des said. "This is a really complicated security system. Whoever made it did not want anyone to see what's going on."
"This is ridiculous." I said. I grabbed the laptop from Des and started typing.
I laughed. "30 minutes? Give me three."
They all looked at me as I stared typing. Des was right, this was a complicated security system but it was simple to hack into if you had the knowledge.
"There you go." I said after two minutes.
Des looked at the laptop, his jaw wide open in shock.
"That's impossible." Des said.
"Clearly your definition of impossible is different from mine and the dictionary's because I just did it." I said.
Des ignored me and started typing away. "This is genius. I think they are on the fourth floor. They just made it seem like a room is being occupied by a guest but this guest hasn't left the hotel for a month and plus I tried to do a background check and he is fake, non existent."
"But wouldn't someone hear them if they were shouting?" Rob asked.
I shook my head. "It's probably sound proof."
"How do we get in?" Zoey asked.
Des continued to type. "So that floor is off limits. The Defenders excuse is that a very important person is staying on the fourth floor so even elevators can't go there."
"How do The Defenders get inside then?" Rob asked.
"They have a key card that looks like this." Des said as he turned the laptop towards Zoey and me. "If you get that, you insert it into a secret opening that's located on the floor. Find the opening, insert the key and the elevator will open to that floor." He then showed us a picture of the layout of the building. "Memorize this just in case. Zoey has a bad memory so this is on you Kyle."
"I have a great memory!" Zoey argued.
"We don't have time for this." Rob interrupted.
Zoey nodded. "Make sure to watch our every step and divert the cameras so it won't spot us."
Des nodded. "I got you girl. Don't worry."
I scoffed, getting out of the car. Zoey followed.
We made our way across the street. When we got there, we took a minute to look at the big hotel.
"Savage humans, hiding Zerians here thinking we wouldn't catch them in their dirty work." Zoey muttered, hatred evident in her voice.
We entered. No one spared us a second glance as people continued to do whatever it was that they were doing.
We walked up to the front desk to find a smiling woman.
"Welcome. How may I help you?"
Suddenly Zoey transformed into another person. "Hi there! I was just wondering how much it would cost to stay in one of the rooms here?"
It took a lot of strength not to stare at Zoey with wide eyes. She was suddenly friendly!
"Oh well if you're planning to stay for one night then it would be around 500 dollars. It depends on what room you get."The lady replied.
"Wow that's a lot of money!" Zoey went on. "Which room has the cheapest price?"
The lady turned to her computer. "It's usually the fourth floor but since that's occupied, it would have to be the rooms on floor seven."
"Oh ya. I heard someone very important is staying there! Why would he have the cheapest room though?" Zoey asked, twirling a strand of her hair and appearing to be curious.
The lady cleared her throat. "That was his choice."
"That's rather odd. Who exactly is this important person?" Zoey asked.
The lady glanced at me then Zoey. "That's private."
She was starting to get suspicious.
"Sorry about her, she tends to get curious." I apologized, faking a sincere smile. "Is it possible if we look around? See if it suits us?"
The lady nodded. "Sure thing!"
I smiled. "Thanks for all your help."
"Have a great day." The lady said as we walked towards the elevator.
"You almost gave us away." I muttered.
"But I didn't."
We both got in the elevator. "Ok turn on your ear piece." Zoey said.
"Nice job Kyle, you saved her butt." Des said through the ear piece.
I smirked. "What can I say? I'm a hero, just like Thor. A hero without a mask."
Zoey rolled her eyes. "Des, where can we find The Defenders that have access to the card?"
"Well, all of them are currently having lunch but lucky for us, there is one person that's still there. His name is Drake and he started working for The Defenders about-"
"We don't have time for his life story. Where is he?" I interrupted.
"Geez tough crowd. At the moment he is on the sixth floor by himself. You should get moving before he leaves. Oh and Kyle, you have something on your hair."
I could hear the smirk that was most likely on his face.
"Sixth floor it is." Zoey said, pressing the button.
"Don't mess this up for us."
I rolled my eyes. "Feeling the love."
"I'm serious. This isn't a joke."
"I don't know what your problem is but I know it's not a joke Zimmer."
"Good."
Geez. Attitude much.
As the elevator doors opened, I prepared myself for some action.
We walked out of the elevator and looked right and left. It was empty.
Des said. "Keep going to your right and make a turn. He is sitting there and has a weapon on him."
Next Robs voice came through. "It's an AK-47 which stands for the Avotmat Kalashnikova model 47. By the looks of it, it chambers a light 5.45 which is usually issued to the Russian Army-"
"Are you and Des mentally ok? We couldn't care less about details right now!" I said.
Zoey elbowed me. "Don't be rude."
I scoffed as we rounded the corner "Funny coming from you."
Then we came face to face with a boy. He looked to be around our age, maybe 17. This could not be Drake.
"That is Drake." Des said as if hearing my thoughts.
Drake looked at us and smiled. "Hi there. You staying here?"
Zoey smiled. "Oh no, we're just looking around to see if its worth it to spend the night here."
"Trust me, you'll love it." Drake said, a friendly smile in place.
Zoey laughed. "Well if you say so how can I not stay!"
"I'm Drake." he said, extending his hand.
"Kate." Zoey replied, shaking his hand.
This was not how I imagined this mission to go.
"So Drake, tell me about yourself?" Zoey said, twirling a strand of her hair.
Was she flirting.
"Well, I'm just another average 17 year old."
I laughed and he looked at me. "I see your boyfriend thinks that's funny."
Zoey laughed. "He is NOT my boyfriend. He's my cousin."
Drake smiled. "Nice to meet you."
"I would say the same thing but I was taught not to lie." I smirked.
Drake frowned. "Okaaaay."
I rolled my eyes. "I didn't realize that average boys hid guns under their shirts."
Drakes jaws clenched as Zoey glared at me before turning her attention to Drake. She walked up to him and stood really close. Too close.
"You know Drake, you're very tall. What is your blood type?"
Drake frowned confused and frustrated. "I'm an A positive."
"Great, thanks for your help." Before he could reply, she reached her hands towards his neck and tapped it twice. And he dropped like a sac of potatoes.
"What the heck did you do to him?" I asked.
"It's a trick I learnt myself. Depends on your blood type."
"What's the trick?" I said at the same time with Des and Rob.
She scoffed. "That's my secret. Now hurry up. Lets take his card and hide him."
We found the card in his right pocket and found a storage room. I picked Drake up and unmercifully dropped him in the room.
"Des, did you erase everything we've done so far?"
"Don't worry Zo, all they can see is a very bored Drake walking back and forth."
"Great. Come on Kyle, lets finish this."
We ran to the elevator and Des managed to find the exact location of the opening by going through past footages.
The elevator doors opened. Des said. "You guys are on your own now. They don't have any cameras here."
Zoey nodded. "You did well. Wish us luck."
"I don't need luck." I said, stepping out.
Zoey followed me and together we stepped into the corridor. "Which room are they in?"
'My bet is in different rooms."
"We don't have time to check all of the rooms here!" Zoey exclaimed.
"We don't have too." I replied.
Zoey gave me a questioning look.
I pointed at one door. "What do you see that's funny about the wall around that door."
Zoey looked towards where I was pointing. "Nothing."
"Now look at the door next to it."
Recognition registered in her eyes. "The wall. It's slightly bulgy." You couldn't recognize it if you were human. Luckily, we were better.
"Exactly."
"Look for more." Zoey said.
At the end we found four rooms that had a slightly bulgy wall next to it.
"What now?" Zoey asked.
"Open the doors." Des replied.
"No."
Zoey looked at me. "Why not?"
I sighed. "Don't be dumb guys. Obviously it's not just open. There must be a reason why the walls are different."
I grabbed a piece of gum wrapper and threw it at the door. It landed close to the handle. And then it burned.
"Oh."
"What happened?" Des asked.
"Kyle threw a gum wrapper at the door and it like burnt away."
"Kyle, you're a genius. And Zoey was just about to barge in pffft." Des said.
Zoey rolled her eyes as I went to look at the slight bulge. Then I punched it.
"Why the hell did you punch the wall!?" Zoey yelled.
"This boy enjoys punching things...." I heard Des mutter.
"That's why." I replied as I looked at the keypad.
"It has a password!" Zoey exclaimed.
"Good job stating the obvious." I said, as I looked at the keypad. "Time for some hacking. Give me a minute."
And a minute was all it took. The door opened.
The sight that awaited me was one that I would have preferred not to see.
A little boy and a teenage girl were handcuffed to the bed, bloody and dirty. The look of hatred that crossed the teenage girls face was frightening.
"Don't get your panties in a twist, we're here to save you."
Zoey elbowed me. "Are you guys ok?"
The girl continued to stare at me. "You're Kyle, one of The Main."
"The one and only. I'm here to rescue you."
The boy laughed. "I knew they would come for us. Didn't I tell you, Macy."
And then the sound alarms went off.
Zoey cursed. "What's the password?"
"3567." I said. I walked up to the girl and boy and looked at their hands. They were bloody.
"They strapped us down and beat our arms so that we wouldn't break the chain with our strengths.
I felt a surge of hatred coursing through my body as I imagined the humans strapping Zerians down and experimenting on them. I took the handcuffs and broke it.
I didn't wait for their reply. "Follow me." I said.
I saw Zoey punching another wall and putting in the code. I looked at the last door and did what I had to do. I got inside and found a man around his 30s.
"Finally!" he exclaimed.
I ignored him.
We all went to the corridor. "We need to hurry. They'll be here soon." Zoey said.
"Too late." Someone, the teenage girl Macy, said.
I looked at where she was pointing and saw the men coming.
"Looks like we're about to have some action." Zoey said, a smile on her face.
I looked at everyone, the boy and Macy, the man I found and three other young girls that Zoey freed. "Can you guys fight?"
"They gave us a chemical. We can barely stand straight." one of the young girls replied.
"Well then, stay behind us and do exactly as we say." I said.
Nodding, they stood behind us as Zoey and I faced the men.
"Look what we have here." One man said, smirking. "Two more toys to add to our collection."
"Look what we have here. Another idiot to add to this world." I replied.
He glared at me and aimed his weapon at my face.
"I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you."
Another man stepped forward. "Don't shoot! It's Kyle, one of The Main."
"What a pleasant surprise." The man who had aimed his weapon at me said.
I noticed Zoey slowly backing away and I realized she had a plan.
I was in distraction duty. "You know," I started, walking. They all looked at me. "Five against two hardly seems fair."
One of the guards laughed. "Too bad we couldn't care less. Now stand still before we fire."
I chuckled. "I was thinking it wasn't fair for you guys since you guys are human but..." I trailed off.
I threw a quick glance at Zoey and knew what she was doing. I remembered the layout of the building. There was a vent on the floor that led to the laundry shaft.
I saw everyone trying to hide Zoey as she opened it. But then one of the guards noticed as well. And so he fired his weapon.
Everyone dived out of the way and the shot went straight to Zoey but with lightning reflexes, she took out the device Rob gave her, pressed a button and deflected the shot. I ran towards the guy who fired and grabbed his head, twisting it once. He dropped, dead.
"They aren't carrying their Eliminators so you guys are good." Macy was saying as I turned on another guard and threw a punch which he ducked but unlucky for him, I bought my feet up and kicked his face. I realized how lucky we were that these guards hadn't bought the Eliminator. One hit from that and we drop dead.
He hollowed in pain as I grabbed his hair and tried to hit a nerve but someone fired a weapon which hit my shoulder. Instead of killing the guard, I knocked him out, turning towards the one who was shooting at me.
But I didn't have to do anything. Out of nowhere, Zoey dropped from the ceiling and landed on his shoulder. She crossed her legs around his neck and with an effortless twist, managed to put him on his knees. She jumped off as he fell on the ground face first, dead.
I looked around us and saw all five guards on the floor.
"Hurry up guys, there are more coming. Many, many more." Des said.
Zoey looked at the other Zerians and ushered them towards the opening. "Hurry. Go go go."
Turn by turn they all went through the vent.
"Des, you know where to meet us." Zoey said.
"On my way."
"Good-" Zoey started but was interrupted.
"Stop or we shoot."
Zoey and I both froze as we looked at the human carrying the Eliminator. Macy was the last one left and she jumped. The human fired at her but she wasn't there anymore.
He turned towards us. "You'll pay for that."
"Personally I don't like paying for something that doesn't entertain me in any way." I replied nonchalantly.
The man clenched his jaws. "You shouldn't be making jokes."
"Who said I was? And speaking of jokes, your customer service is horrible. I don't like it when employees aim guns at me. Can I speak to your manager?"
"What are you doing?" Des hissed. "Don't piss them off."
"You should have more trust in me." I said out loud. The humans looked at me, confused.
"Oh my bad. I was just speaking with my friend. He has absolutely no faith in me just like my partner here who is about ready to murder me." I explained as Zoey glared at me. "But I was just about to explain how I was stalling since I lost what I was looking for but I think I...." I trailed off.
I took out the device and pressed the button. "Found it." I finished as everyone fell on their knees, clenching their ears.
I grabbed Zoeys hand and together, we went through the vent.

"That was sooooo cool! Like you are amazing! You're like my hero. And I love how you were so laid back!" The boy who was tied up with Macy, Mark, said.
I groaned. "Thank you kid, but you've already told me how great I am about a hundred times."
"I'm sorry I'm sorry! It's just, I can't believe I'm actually meeting one of The Mains!"
"Mark, enough." Macy said. Apparently she was his sister. They were caught while they were in hiding, trying to find HZD, after their parents were kidnapped.
Along with them was the other guy I freed, Jerry, who was living under a false name pretending to be human before a Defender caught him.
And then the two that Zoey freed, Daniela and Lora. Best friends since they were 9, they were on the run ever since their parents were kidnapped. The third girl had run away before Des came.
Ungrateful brat.
"I can't believe we escaped that. That was a close call." Des was saying as he drove the van.
No one bothered to reply.
By the time we reached HZD, everyone was tired and hungry. No one said a word as we got out of the van. Dr. Jarson was waiting for us, a big smile on his face along with Mr. Koffee
"Welcome to the Home Of The Zerian Descendants." He said to the newcomers. "I know you have many questions but before we continue, I'm sure you guys would like to eat and maybe change into something more comfortable."he said, looking at their bloody clothes.
Mark nodded with enthusiasm. "I would looooove some pizza!"
"Great! Mr. Koffee here will show you to your rooms and make sure you are as comfortable as possible.'
I scoffed. "In order for them to be comfortable he should stop giving everyone that uncomfortable glare."
Mr. Koffee glared at me. "I didn't miss you."
"Oh how you hurt my feelings. My sole purpose on this planet was to be missed by you." I replied sarcastically.
"Okay anyway, I think Mr. Koffee will be more than happy to show you to your rooms. Now." Dr. Jarson said, interrupting our nice discussion.
Mark turned to look at me. "Thank you for saving us."
I chuckled. "Anytime kid. You know they call me Thor. Like the hero with a mask."
"Thor doesn't wear a mask." Mark replied, frowning.
"I told you." Des muttered.
Jerry smacked Robs back which made him stumble forward. "We really appreciate it. It was hell in there."
"It was our pleasure." Zoey said, standing tall and proud.
Turn by turn, they followed Mr. Koffee and left.
Dr. Jarson turned towards us. "I'm proud of you guys."
I rolled my eyes. "Drop the mushy stuff and tell us. We proved ourselves, we can work as a team." I said the word in disgust. "What's the next step to getting rid of The Defenders."
Dr. Jarson smirked, a glint in his eyes that I didn't like.
"You are going to high school."
