Chapter 3
"I understand you are a little more advanced than most of my students." Dr. Jarson started as we made our way towards the elevator.
I interrupted him. "All of your students actually."
Ignoring me, he continued. "But you must take classes along with them and please do not intimidate them. They already know who you are."
"Doesn't everyone?"
We entered the elevator and he pressed the number 4. Training area.
We were silent as horrible elevator music played in the background.
As soon as the doors opened, we got out. There was a single door in the room.
Dr. Jarson slipped out a card from his pocket. "Every student has an ID. These are used to enter into places other than class rooms which are available for everyone and anyone. Other places, like the training area, are only available to some people." He explained as he proceeded to slip his card in a place in the wall.
It made a 'ding' sound and turned green. The doors opened.
What awaited us were rows and rows of equipments and different obstacles. I looked to the side to see stairs leading up. My eyes trailed to the things located up there. Different training facilities.
I saw mats for taekwondo, jujitsu and more. I noticed someone firing a gun inside a sound proof room.
I shook my head, smirking. "Nice shark tank. Hard core training huh."
Dr. Jarson ignored me.
At the moment there was a group of students at the far corner of the room listening to a teacher.
"These are the students undergoing their last year here. You'll be accompanying them." Dr. Jarson said as we made our way towards them.
"Oh and Kyle. They don't know your sister is dead."
I frowned. "Why?"
"As you know only a few people are aware about this, powerful people, since it just happened. I thought I would leave that up to you, whether to tell them or not." Dr. Jarson said.
I didn't reply.
As we neared the group of students, I saw some pointing and whispering. I smirked.
"Sorry to interrupt your class, Mr. Koffee, but I need to introduce someone and borrow a few students." Dr. Jarson said.
Mr. Koffee, a muscular and fit man, stared at me, trying to intimidate me.
"It's rude to stare." I said.
Everyone gasped which made me roll my eyes.
"This is Kyle."
Everyone stared at me, some with amazement and some with a little fear and wonder.
"Don't worry. I'm harmless." I said to everyone, a small smirk in place.
Dr. Jarson elbowed me. "He will be your new classmate. I hope you'll all welcome him."
A kid at the back raised his hand. He was a small boy with freckles everywhere. He didn't look strong enough to even skip ropes. Why was he here?
"Yes, Sheldon." Dr. Jarson said.
The boy, Sheldon, cleared his throat and said. "I've heard great things about you. Will your sister be joining us?"
I felt Dr. Jarson's eyes on me.
"Shefon is it?" I started, purposely getting his name wrong.
"Sheldon." He corrected me
"Ya I don't really care. But you see, there is nothing here that you could teach me or my sisters. I've come alone." I said.
The room fell silent.
Dr. Jarson cleared his throat. "Well, I would like Miss Zimmer, Mr. Coby and Mr. Carson to come with me for a while."
Three students stepped forward, one of them being Des.
"I'll take these three for now Mr. Koffee. Thank you."
Mr. Koffee grunted but continued to glare at me. I gave him a wink and followed Dr. Jarson outside the training area.
"At our school, we have teams. We pair up students to work on assignments and missions. These three are a team. And I've decided to add you with them so..." Dr Jarsom said, grinning.
"Meet your new team Kyle."
I rolled my eyes. "I didn't agree to this. I don't need help, especially from them."
The girl, Miss Zimmers, scoffed. "You have a big ego. I don't know what you know about us but we are the best and if anything, we don't need you in this team."
" No need to argue. You guys might not know each other but I think you can put aside your differences and get to know one another." Dr. Jarson said
I grinned. "Zoey Zimmers. I know a lot about you and your team."
Zoey looked baffled but quickly returned to looking unimpressed. "Anyone could have guessed my name."
I shook my head and chuckled. "And I'm sure that anyone would have told you that your speciality is in the training area. Your good with combat. You had a pet dog who died when you were 5 and you cried for what? Three days? You first arrived at this school on September 24, when you were 10. Everyone describes you as hot tempered, stubborn and bossy. You tend to think you know everything and your also the leader of your team. Your hacking and weapon expertise are not that good. Which leads us to your team mates."
I ignored the look of bewilderment and indignation on Zoeys face and looked at Des. "Des Coby. Computer genius. You probably know a little more than most students here. Your the best in your class and also the friendliest. You came here when you were 9, June 18. You were arrested for hacking FBI files at the age of 10 but managed to get out. This information was kept on the DL. My bad for mentioning it." I said with a wink.
Zoey gasped. "You did what?" she whisper yelled at Des who looked sheepish and shrugged.
"It was a while back and I was only 10. I didn't think i'd get arrested!"
Zoey huffed. "We will discuss this later." she replied.
"Looks like I know more than you." I said to Zoey with a smirk.
Before Zoey could reply, I faced Robert. "Robert Carson. Small, frail and quiet but deadly when it comes to weapons. You were bought to this establishment when you were 15, which is pretty late but you managed to outshine everyone and come to the top. Oddly, you have no other skills mentioned."
I turned towards Dr. Jarson. "I think I know this team well enough. Don't you?"
Dr. Jarson sighed. "Kyle." he said with a warning tone.
I held my hand up. "No. I did not come here to 'train' or 'learn'. I know enough as it is. My parents taught me well."
No one said anything so I continued. "I came here to help you but if you don't need my help, I'll gladly leave."
Zoey scoffed. "Fine. Go. We don't need your help. Just know this, Kyle." She started, spitting out my name. "You might be the best like your parents but you're a disgrace. You walk around like you know everything. Well if you do then tell me, why haven't you stopped The Defenders yet."
Everyone quietly looked at me and I stared back, faking embarrassment and shame. But I couldn't help it. I chuckled.
"You're cute when you're mad."
Zoeys face turned red. "Who do you think you are-" she started but Dr. Jarson cut her off.
"Enough. I wasn't aware that I was dealing with a bunch of teenagers." Dr Jarson started but naturally I had to interrupt him.
"Actually, you are dealing with teenagers."
Dr. Jarson glared at me with clenched jaws. "What I meant was, I wasn't aware you would be arguing over useless things like teenagers."
"Then you should have phrased it like that. Your fault but because of my kind heart, I forgive you." I replied.
"He is so going to regret saying that." Zoey snickered to Des.
Dr. Jarson closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them. "Listen Kyle. We have information and plans. We need your help but you also need ours. These are my three most trust worthy students and I'm sure you can trust them with your life."
I scoffed. "If I'm ever in a situation where a bomb is strapped to my body and I needed help, I'll make sure to depend on Zoey. Because I'm sure she would help me."
Zoey glared at me with her grey stormy eyes.
Des cleared his throat. "I'm willing to work with Kyle."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm touched."
Des winked at me. "I know you are."
Dr. Jarson looked at Robert who had yet to speak.
He shrugged. "I'm in."
Zoey, her arms crossed, nodded. "I'll do anything to bring those humans to their knees."
Everyone looked at me, waiting for my answer. It was against my nature to work in a team. I liked to be in control and I knew we would have problems because of that. The only person I could work with was my sister.
"Fine. Under one condition."
"Name it." Dr. Jarson said, irritated with me but relived that I agreed. No matter how prideful he was, he knew he needed me.
"When the time comes, when we have them by their throats, I get to kill the leader."
Of course Zoey had to object. "No. He is mine."
Dr. Jarson gave Zoey a deadly look which Zoey returned. After a few minutes though, she looked away.
"I'm glad you guys agreed to work together. It'll all be worth it at the end. Now if you'll excuse me, I have important things to take care off." With that said, Dr. Jarson left.
As soon as he was out of sight, Zoey looked towards me. "Listen here. I am the leader and you will do as I say. I won't let some low life boy come here and disrespect me and my team."
"Are you trying to scare me?" I said with an amused smile.
"Trust me, you should be."
Des chuckled. "This is going to be so entertaining."
Zoey glared at him before turning towards me. "Me and my team are the best you'll ever find."
"My team and I."
Zoey glared. "What are you talking about?"
I sighed. "It's 'my team and I' not 'me and my team'. Your lack of grammar is highly discouraging."
Zoey looked at me, her grey eyes showing her distaste towards me. "I'll have you kn-" she started but I interrupted.
"There is nothing you can tell me that I don't already know." I said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I think I should get settled in."
I walked towards the elevator but before I got in, I turned around.
"Oh and Zoey. I never regret anything."
