1 {} Brink Point

Callum looked his teacher in the eye as the teacher lectured him and his fellow classmates on university and college. He sighed and raised a hand nonchalantly.

"Can I be excused?" He asked.

His teacher sighed. "Callum, that is the THIRD time today. Are you sure you can miss a few minutes?"

Callum nodded, stood up, cast a glance at everyone, and walked out of the room with his hands in his hoodie pockets.

The girls in the class, except Misty, giggled. "What a loafer," one said. Another continued, "I think he's hot." The voice had come from Misty.

Wil raised his eyes from Kacey to Misty. "Really?" He asked her with his long brown eyebrow raised.

She grabbed a tuft of hair, and folded it into a brown ponytail. "Yeah. Why?"

Wil shrugged, slicked his long back hair to the side, and continued, "Well... He's a loafer. Not even sure how he reached this point. He's also a nerd; constantly indulging himself in the Walking Dead comics."

Misty laughed. "I guess I find that cute, then." She said with a wink.

"DAMMIT, YOU KIDS! THIS IS MY CLASS AND I ASK YOU ALL SHUT YOUR YAPS AND LISTEN!" The teacher bellowed across the room. Everyone shuffled their feet uncomfortably on the granite tiles.

"Some free country this place is..." Wil muttered. Kacey cast him a curious glance and smiled. Sophie raised her hand.

"Yes?" the teacher asked.

"Our lesson?" Sophie said.

The teacher stumbled a bit, but caught his mistake in time. "OH! Right! College and university expectations! Ahem..." the teacher coughed once, and drawled out his lesson.

Callum bumped into a boy who was coughing while playing on his iPod. "Dammit, man! Watch yoursel-" but Callum stopped abruptly when he saw the odd creases formed on the boy's face and his oddly pale skin. And the eyes as well were strange. They were clouded over, faded slightly.

The boy grumbled something close to an apology, and continued stumbling down the hall.

Callum took a left, then a right, and then another left, and saw the boys bathroom. He walked inside, and looked up to make sure no toilet paper was above. There was always toilet paper above. He looked at the urinal and saw someone had puked blood. "Sick fucks..." he muttered.

He looked around and saw more of the blood everywhere. He ran his finger through it, and it had a weird, slimy feel to it that Callum shivered. One stall door was flung off its hinges, and another had a hole in it. From a fist perhaps.

He then noticed something shining out of the corner of his eye. A shotgun shell? "What the fuck?" Callum said. Slowly, he crept towards the shotgun shell, and lowered his head down to pick it up. That was when he saw the feet and the unnaturally black pool of blood at his feet. "JESUS CHRIST!" He screamed.

He flung the door open, and saw a boy holding a shotgun. And when Callum followed the trail of blood, it lead straight to the boy's face, which was now just a large crevasse. The crevasse had been caused by the shotgun.

"How the fuck? WHY the fuck?" Callum asked himself. He immediately stepped outside the bathroom, to be greeted by kids calling home sick, and others stumbling into their classrooms.

He pushed through the mass of bodies, and saw one girl staring helplessly up at him. She grabbed his arm with her clammy hands, and immediately Callum recoiled. "The fuck is going on?" Callum asked the vice principal.

"A... virus," was the Vice Principal's only answer.

"A fucking VIRUS? YEAH FUCKING RIGHT." Callum said, now angry. "This shit ain't normal. I'm calling my parents. Oh yeah -- a mother fucker blew out his brains in the bathroom. Got answers for that?" Callum pressed.

The Vice Principal hesitated, and said, "These children are all dead. All screwed."

Callum stared at them all, and finally sited a bite mark. "The deadheads are going to kill us all." He said.

The Vice Principal looked over. "The Zeds you mean? Yeah, they are. All of us. Now get back to class, Callum."

Callum shook his head. "To hell with that! I'm helping your sorry asses, right here, right now!"

A boy grabbed Callum and spun him around. "Let's go." He said.

"And who the fuck gave you the authority-" but when Callum turned his head to face the Vice Principal, he understood.

"DAMMIT! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! YOU'RE MAKING A MISTAKE!" but by then, he was already dragged halfway back to his class.
