Riley Diaz got woken up, not by his sister or his cat named Acacia but instead, Riley was woken up by his phone ringing. Riley rubbed the sleep out his eyes as he blindly reached for his phone, he didn't even look at who it was because only a few people had his number. "Hello?" Riley said once he put the phone up to his ear.
Riley laid on his pack and rolled his eyes as he listened to the caller. "Yes Samuel, you did wake me up." Riley laughed when he heard Sam's complaints about being called his full name. "That's why I did it, Samuel. It gets on your nerves." Riley chuckles shaking his head fondly.
"How's your sister babe?" Riley nodded along even though he knew Sam couldn't see him. "She's good too, how's the seafood business going?" Riley kept his phone sandwiched in between his ear and shoulder as he got out of his bed to get ready for the day.
He had a soft smile on his face as he listened to Sam go on and on about his family's business, it was a little challenging to make his bed while talking on the phone but he didn't let that stop him from chatting with his boyfriend. "I'm still here babe I promise. I heard you talk all about Wilson Family seafood." Riley laughed at what Sam said.
"Hold on, someone's knocking on the door." Riley barely gave Sam that warning before putting his phone on his nightstand to open the door.
Riley opened the door to be greeted by his Dad, Alejandro was on the other side of the door. "Hey kiddo, Mom wanted me to tell you that breakfast is ready." Riley nodded and glanced at his clock which said 10 am. "Okay, thanks. I'll be up in a second, I'm talking to Sam." Alejandro smiled at Riley before walking upstairs.
Riley walked towards his nightstand. "Hey, that was my dad. Mom made- Oh you heard didn't you? I'll talk to you later Sam." Riley felt the same flutter feeling he gets every time he sees Sam for the first time after a while. "I love you too baby, kisses dumbasser." It seemed like a corny nickname but it started after Sam always called Riley dumbass when he did something dumb but every time Riley would rebuttal by calling Sam dumbasser so it became their thing.
He stood up and slipped his phone in his pants before walking towards what he has dubbed, the cat corner. He poured out Acacia's food, he knew that she would be coming downstairs to get her own breakfast soon.
Once he knows he's done his morning stuff minus brushing his teeth and actually getting ready he goes upstairs, since Riley's in the air force his parents along with him realized it would just be a wiser decision to let Riley move into the basement he wouldn't have to pay for an apartment he would hardly live in.
As soon as Riley walked into the kitchen he knew what his Mom Maricela made, his stomach growled telling Riley to get some food so that's what he did. "Hi, Mom." Riley kissed Maricela on the cheek before grabbing his plate. "Hi, honey, how'd you sleep?" Riley scrunched his nose up as he loaded up on eggs and potatoes. "Eh, could've been better if I didn't have Acacia's foot in my mouth most of the time." Riley rolled his eyes when he heard Robin laugh at his misery.
After his father said grace they all started eating, Riley felt his phone vibrate from his pants pocket so he grabbed it to see it was. Maricela snapped her fingers at Riley. "Hey, no phone at the table." Riley put his hands up and closed his phone.
"Was that Sam?" Robin had a teasing glint in her eyes, Riley shook his head smirking at the disappointed look on her face because she couldn't tease Riley anymore. "It was Lina, she's asking if I made it home safe."
"Are you going to church Sunday?" Alejandro asked Riley, Riley sighed and put his fork down. "No, the pastor isn't homophobic but a lot of the members are. You told me when we came to America to not hide and I'm not." Riley felt like a broken record when explaining to his family.
The Diaz's were catholic they went to a catholic church every Sunday, and Riley even had a cross necklace that he still wore but even though the pastor was pretty progressive it still had a lot of old-fashioned members. Riley saw that his dad opened his mouth to defend the church when Maricela put her hand on his arm and shook her head.
Riley sighed, he scooped the eggs into his mouth before grabbing a biscuit and wiped up the residue of food that was on his plate. "What?" Riley asked when Robin and Maricela were looking at him with a grossed-out look. "Why are you doing that? It's gross." Robin turned her nose up.
Riley swallowed the piece of biscuit before pushing his seat back, he didn't dare get up though. "Never waste food, no matter how small." Since being in the Air Force and only having MRE's every time he's in the states he's always made sure to eat everything that was on his plate because you never know when you won't have that good food anymore.
"How're your classes going Robin?" Riley asked sucking his teeth. "Good, I think. My classmates are kind of buttholes but I can't do anything about that." Robin was going to school to be a fashion designer and as much as she annoys Riley and Riley annoys her their both proud of each other even if the other doesn't say it.
Riley chuckled before leaning up. "Well, if anyone gives you a hard time tell them you're brother is a pararescueman." Robin thought about it for a second before shaking her head. "No thanks, I'll just keep telling everyone you're a seal."
Riley gasped and playfully pushed Robin making her chuckle. "Behave!" Alejandro barked at the two adults, they straightened up but it only took one glance at each before they both started laughing loudly.
