Take One
CHASTITY means purity. It's supposed to mean being pure to self and others. But other dictionaries would define "chastity" literally as "virginity". Why am I saying this? Because unfortunately, mom named me after the daughter of celebrities Sonny and Cher Bono, Chastity Bono whom you probably don't know about.
When I reached freshmen year and my classmates suddenly took interest of my name, they eventually found out about it being defined as virginity, which then started the mockery. I wasn't the type who just kept quiet and watch them laugh their asses off about my name. I ended up being in the guidance counsellor's office for slapping (or punching) one of my girl classmates who kept on teasing me about it. Yes, you could say I was kind of a tough cookie. After that, no one else dared to mock my name.
Anyway, that girl classmate of mine eventually became my bestfriend when we reached sophomore year. And, now that we're in junior year, our friendship became stronger than ever to the point that everything we did, we always had to have a say about it... just like now and every other mornings.
"When will you stop riding that bike of yours going to school, Chas?" Isabella hissed right beside me. I was going to ignore her, but the way her brows creased in the middle made me want to counter her.
"When I find a pot of gold to buy myself a car."
"You're weird."
"Gee, thanks Sab." I flashed her a grin.
"Isabella Marie Lee! Chastity Gomez! What are you two fussing about there?" The high-pitched tone of Ms. Rossville filled the room. She set down a book on the table, fixing her thick-rimmed glassed over her eyes.
"We're not even talking," Sab reasoned out beside me in a low voice, but Ms. Rossville still heard it. At this point, I was convinced that she had bionic ears.
"What did you say, Ms. Lee? Do you want to get out of the room?" Ms. Rossville's voice was calm, but her eyes pierced in our direction, making me lower my head to avoid her glare.
"No, miss," Sab answered, almost whispering now.
"Good. Now bring out your books."
"But Ms. Rossville!" Someone complained from the class, followed by another one, so our teacher suddenly startled us with a smash from her stick.
"This is all your fault." Sab turned to me, her almond-shaped eyes squinting.
I arched a brow at her. "What? Me? You're the one who-" I got cut off when Ms. Rossville spoke again.
"Ms. Gomez, if you're not going to listen, just get out of my class!" She was really really mad now. Tsk. It wasn't even my fault. "Now!"
I rose up from my seat and stepped out of the room with a heavy heart. That was really humiliating! Scratching my head in annoyance, I walked towards the hallway, finding my locker to return my book. As soon as I closed it, I banged my head on it in an attempt to make myself feel better.
I was about to hit my head on it again, when suddenly I felt someone's hand over my forehead. When I turned around, I saw a grinning face of a guy infront of me. His head was hanging low just to level his face with mine. "Jasper!" I exclaimed, craning my neck to meet his eyes. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my bestfriend has a very annoying older brother namely Jasper.
"Dude, what's your problem? You're really breaking lockers with your head this early in the morning?" He remarked, suppressing a laugh.
"Haha. Laugh all you want," I said in sarcasm. I noticed that his hand was still on my forehead so I shoved his hand away. "I got kicked out of the room by Ms. Rossville," I explained in a serious tone, straightening myself up.
His eyes grew wide upon hearing this. "What? Why?"
"This is all your sister's fault."
"Why? What did she do? Tell me." He brought his hand to my nose, pinching it lightly. He always did this, almost like a bad habit.
Slapping his hands, I threw him a glare. "Do you really have to pinch me?"
"And do you really have to slap me?" he answered back, nursing his arm.
"It's because you're asking too much. And besides, your girlfriend, Yumi might see us."
"It's just Yumi! And besides, I don't care even if she gets jealous."
"You're unbelievable! You're talking as if she's not your girlfriend. What is she then? You're playtime?" I lectured him for the nth time. He clearly hadn't heard of 'long-term relationships' in his entire life. He had so many girlfriends in the past but the longest he had probably lasted only for a week utmost.
"It's called flirting. Dating then choosing. If it doesn't work out, then let them go," he explained, as if it was a good thing.
This guy was really unbelievable. "Whatever you say." I turned my back at him, but he stopped me with his hand.
"Wait... you're leaving me again?" he asked dramatically.
"You're over-reacting, Jasper Lee! Just go back to your room, will you?"
"It's our vacant period. And today's the second to the last day of the school year. Don't be such a hero. It doesn't suit you. Come on let's eat. It's on me," he said, practically dragging me out of the building.
"Wait... Jasper, let me go!" I tried to release his grip but he was just naturally strong. I had no choice but to follow.
As we reached the parking lot, he dropped my hand from his grip. "Wait, don't you think you're being impolite? I'm still older than you, remember that. You have to respect me."
I didn't answer him. His gaze turned serious so I looked down to avoid it. "W-what?... Uh..." I paused, scratching the back of my head. "Because you're always teasing me that-" I got cut off when he spoke.
He burst into laughter. "I'm kidding! Come on. Let's go!"

WHEN we reached the mini mall inside the campus, he took me to a Chinese restaurant again - his favourite. "Don't you want to try somewhere else?" I complained. I wasn't really a fan of Chinese food. I didn't even know why I ended up being friends with the Lee's.
"This is my treat! You don't have the right to complain. Stay still," he reiterated, stepping inside the restaurant.
I followed him as he found a vacant table near the window. "Why don't you want to try out non-Chinese food?" I asked again as we settled on our seats.
"I just don't want to eat non-Chinese food today. If you want, you can just order from another restaurant. Here..." he said, bringing his wallet out and handing me one of his cards.
"Don't bother. I'll just stay still like what you've said."
I fell silent after that. A server came up to take our orders. I just watched as Jasper ordered food which I didn't really feel like eating today. I brought out my phone and pretended to check for messages. There was nothing new to check.
"Chas! Say something!" I suddenly heard him speak. But I just ignored him. "You're even more difficult to deal with than my girlfriend." He blurted out, which made my temperature boil.
"Don't try to compare me with her. We're different from each other," I said in a serious tone. I was really getting pissed now.
"Oh, right. You're a guy and she's a girl. I can see the big difference."
Oh no he didn't just say that! I was about to throw him another remark, when suddenly someone showed up on our table. A tanned and long-legged girl stood infront of us, her dark round eyes directed at me.
"Jasper Lee, what is the meaning of this?" She shrieked, causing a commotion inside the restaurant.
Yes, we got caught by his girlfriend, Yumi Torres. This was his fault anyway for dragging me out here. I watched him explain to his girlfriend while I prepared myself to leave in secret.
"Yumi, it's not what you think. You know Chas, right? She's bestfriends with my sister," he tried to explain.
I was about to stand up when suddenly, someone pulled my hair from behind me. "Where do you think you're going, slut?" It was Yumi's voice.
"To get away from your ugly face," I answered in return.
"What did you just say?"
"I said-" I was about to repeat what I just said, but then the server already came up with a tray on his hands.
I got startled when Yumi picked up the glass of juice from the tray and poured it on me. "Serves you right," she said, turning her back and stepping out of the restaurant.
I tried to compose myself. The icy cold liquid made my skin numb. I could feel all eyes were on me now inside the restaurant. If only I could just vanish in thin air right at that moment...
"Chas, are you alright? I'm so sorry. I didn't want any of this to happen." Jasper moved closer to me, wiping my face with his handkerchief. "Come on I'll drive you home."
"No need. I'll go home myself." I turned my back at him and walked off.
