Take Eight

I didn't know how many glasses of liquor I drank that time since I chose to avoid answering their intriguing questions so everytime the bottle stopped at me, I would choose to drink. And if you're wondering how my body was tolerating the alcohol inside my system, I also have no idea. I have never drink alcohol up until now so we'd see how I'd end up later.

"Chastity, I think you should stop drinking now." I heard Mino beside me. He seemed worried, but I ignored him. I didn't know what had gotten into me that I suddenly became addicted to it.

The game still continued, but my head was already turning and my vision was becoming blurry by the minute. I could see Jasper's eyes on me which probably meant, "Stop drinking already!" I finally decided to get up and excused myself from the circle.

"Let me help you get to your room." Mino offered, taking my hand, but I shook my head at him.

"Thanks but I can manage, Mino." I told him, and so he went back to his seat.

I've only seen drunken people on movies and I actually didn't know what they do after being drunk. Now that I was in their situation, I was clueless. I ended up stopping at a hut after walking (who knows how many meters I've reached). By this time, I felt something burning inside me. I reached inside the hut and then involuntarily, I threw up the contents I drank.

"WHAT THE F*CK!" Someone yelled near me and that's when I realized that someone was actually there inside the hut. And yes, unfortunately I threw up... and more unfortunately.... I threw up on the devil. I didn't know if I should be happy that at least I finally had my revenge on him or if I should be scared of what he might do to me now.

His roaring voice suddenly made me sober. My eyes grew wide seeing his furious face, as he wiped his shirt which I just puked on. He gritted his teeth in anger as he reached for my neck. "YOU!!!!" He was shaking and trembling in anger, but the next thing I knew, my eyes already went pitch black.

MY head hurt as soon as I woke up. I was surprised that I was lying on bed inside our cottage when I rose up from bed. I saw my roommates sleeping soundly beside me. I checked the time on my watch and saw that it's already 5 am. I took a quick bath, changed clothes and marched my way out of our room after that, making sure not to wake anyone up.

As I was walking out, I saw a familiar person also walking towards my direction. He looked surprised to see me. "Chas, how are you feeling?" Jasper asked when he reached me.

"Fine. Just a little bit dizzy that's all. Why are you up so early?" I asked him.

"Well... I was gonna wait for you here until you wake up. I was worried last night. You've never drank before. Why'd you have to drink so much?" He looked worried. Not that he's never been worried before, but this time he was overly worried because he knew how much I hate alcohol and so did he.

"I just felt like it." I simply answered.

Jasper heaved a sigh. "I saw Tristan carrying you inside your cottage last night. I was searching for you but apparently, you were with him?" He seemed unsure, doubtful. I knew he wanted to ask me why were we together. But I got struck at what he said. That devil actually carried me inside our room?

"I... don't know but..." I paused, rubbing my temple. "...I actually threw up on him last night. He was mad at me, but I didn't know he carried me."

"What if he did something to you?" Jasper's voice became serious, his brows creased in the middle. "It's a relief that he carried you back to your room instead of abandoning you."

"I guess he's still not so devil after all." I faked a laugh.

Just then, not too far away from where we were standing, I saw the devil passing by, his eyes caught mine but then he suddenly looked away and continued walking.

Should I go apologize and thank him? Nah! He'd probably just ignore me. Instead, I turned to Jasper again. "Let's go eat breakfast!"

AFTER lunch, we all drove back to the villa. Everyone was very exhausted since I noticed that they all practically entered their rooms as soon as we reached inside. On the other hand, I chose to hang out in the greenhouse. It was my first time to actually go here. I wasn't into botany, but after seeing how wonderful the plants and flowers were there at that time, I suddenly admired whoever suggested to have a greenhouse here.

"Having alone time?" Someone suddenly asked, startling me.

I turned to my right and saw Sab approaching, together with the guy who hit my head during the beach volleyball (and who apparently was a celebrity that I didn't know), Patrick. I smiled at the sight of them. "Yeah. Kinda."

"Would you mind if we look around here with you?" Patrick asked, smiling.

"No, no, not at all." I said.

"Sorry for hitting you again." Patrick apologized.

"That's alright." I answered.

"Oh, by the way, Chas, are you okay now? Jasper told me..." Sab spoke.

"Yeah. I'm fine now." I smiled.

"So you two are the bestfriends here, right?" Patrick turned to us.

Sab and I exchanged glances. No one was supposed to know, right? Will there be a punishment for us now that someone knows? "Uh..." I paused.

"I kinda spilled it." Sab confessed, glancing at Patrick.

The guy flashed a smile. "Don't worry I don't think everyone knows it."

"Yet." I added.

Patrick laughed. "By the way, do you think guys will pick their partners tomorrow? Cause if yes, I already want to tell you Chas that I'll pick you."

"Oh-kay." I hushed.

Sab smiled. "I recommended you to him since... you know..."

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" I asked her.

"No I really wanna hang out with you too, Chastity." Patrick butted in.

I nodded. "Okay then." Superb! Now, I'll be paired up with a celebrity.

****

TRUE enough, the next day, the guys got to pick their partners and so Patrick became my partner since I really had no choice. There was no other guy who picked me (which was fine with me by the way). The staff informed us to pack our bags for another activity outside the villa, saying that we need to dress comfortably as possible. I have no problem dressing comfortably since I only have shirts, shorts, pants and sneakers in my closet, unlike the other girls who have skirts and dresses.

We all proceeded to our respective vans after that. I was sitting next to Patrick, who was quiet, the whole ride. He even let me borrow his travel pillow for me to sleep on during the ride. I guess this guy is the epitome of an ideal one (not that I have a long list of traits that I want as my ideal guy).

After how many hours, I felt someone shaking me, waking me up from deep sleep. "Chastity, we're here." Patrick told me, as soon as I opened my eyes. I followed him as he stepped out of the van. Yeah, he even offered his hand out to me as I stepped out. Doesn't every girl want that kind of treatment? Hey, don't blame me, I'm still a girl. Anyway, after we all got out of our vans, we were all surprised to see that we were in a mountain range.

"So our activity today is hiking. We'll hike up and set up our tents at a certain station then we'll be spending the night here." The MC announced. "Enjoy hiking couples!" I sighed. Hiking it is!

I picked up my backpack on the ground, ready to lift it up behind me, but then, Patrick suddenly stopped me. "Let me help you with that."

I turned to him. He was also carrying a backpack. "No Patrick, I'll carry this."

He smiled. "Come on Chastity." He said, grabbing the bag in his hands. "That way you can climb faster."

"But..." I insisted, but he already carried my bag in his hands.

"Let's go." He said, motioning me to follow him.

****

AS we climbed up, I could hear the complaints of the girls infront and beside me. It was their fault for not following instructions. The staff clearly said to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and yet, they still wore their heels and skirts. Goodluck with that!

"I'm glad I'm paired up with you." Patrick mumbled beside me.

"Ah... y-yeah. You're not half bad considering the fact that you're practically a celebrity."

"Half bad, huh?" He chuckled. "Why? You think I'd have attitude problem?"

"I think you'd have a superstar complex. But you're proving me wrong. Good job with that!" I tapped his shoulders.

He chuckled again. "I'm not a superstar. Yet."

I laughed this time. "I'm sure you'd reach that level soon."

"Not unless you'd listen to my music first, I don't think I'd become a superstar."

I smiled. "Alright. I'll try to Google you next time, Patrick. Then maybe I can download all your songs and listen to it over and over until my ears bleed."

He laughed. "I would die to see that."

I suddenly noticed the amount of sweat dripping all over his face already. I couldn't imagine how he could even manage to carry those bags. "Let me carry my bag now, Patrick. I don't want your fans to murder me for torturing you. I still want to live a hundred years, you know."

He laughed at my remark. Then, he heaved a deep sigh. "Let's just rest for a while, then."

We stopped climbing and sat on the rocky ground, while the other couples continued to hike up. I was holding a bottle of water in my hands so I decided to give it to my partner. "Here. Quench your thirst. I don't have a contagious disease so you don't have to worry."

He laughed again, before taking the bottle from me. Yeah, he laughs a lot. I'm not even trying to be funny here. "Mino was right. You really are likeable." He commented, after drinking the water.

"He said that?" I turned to him with wide eyes. He nodded. "I wanted to see for myself and now I could see he's right."

I sighed. "I told him that I don't want to be awkward with him and now I'd like to tell you the same thing."

"Don't worry. I'm not the type who falls too fast for a girl. But I guess you're the exception..." He paused, gauging my reaction.

"Oh please, no." He chuckled. "Come on. Let's continue hiking."

****

AFTER hiking for how many minutes, we finally reached a certain station wherein the ground was flat again. I guess this was the place where we'd be setting up our tents. Patrick dropped the bags on the ground and started to read the manual on how to set-up the tent. I honestly don't think we'd need a manual for this, though. I tried my best to connect the sticks or poles or whatever they're called, then slid them on the tiny holes on the tent. "Piece of cake!" I said, finishing the other half of the tent. It's almost done.

Patrick turned to me, then looked at our tent. "You sure with this?"

"Uh-huh." I said pretty confidently, that afterwards, the tent just dropped down the ground. Oh no, my precious masterpiece!

Patrick snorted. "Let's build this together."

And yes, finally, after a decade (okay that was an exaggeration), our tent stood up. We were one of those few who had their tents built up first so Patrick and I high-fived each other. "Now this is art." I remarked.

"That's definitely not art." Someone suddenly commented not too far away from where I was standing. That's when I noticed that the devil was there beside us. Their tent was already done.

"Excuse me? What do you know about art?" I turned to him, but he turned his back at me.

"Hey, don't mind him. He's just really like that." Patrick said beside me.

"Yeah right." Once a devil, always a devil.

****

WHEN night came, most of the couples were gathered up again in the middle for a campfire. Everyone started chatting with each other, while I just sat infront of our tent and busied myself looking at the night sky. It was my first time (in forever) to see stars at night. I was always too busy locked up inside my room doing stuffs. "Pretty neat, huh?" I heard Patrick's voice. He was walking his way towards me with a guitar in his hands.

I nodded. "You brought your guitar?"

"Apparently, a staff did." He smiled, sitting next to me on the bench. "Ready to hear me now?"

"You're on." I said, watching him tune and strum his guitar.

He cleared his throat a few times, before starting to play the instrument. I watched him intently as he immersed himself into the music he was playing. It was a slow song. I've never heard it before. But the music was pleasant in the ears. Then, he started to sing.

The blue sky is beautiful but why am I becoming so insignificant and shabby.

I keep holding onto the unanswered phone.

The melody flowing out of the phone is sweet but why does it sound painful to my ears.

It sounds like my heart screaming after it lost you.

It sounds like the melody is mocking my longing for you.

His voice was sweet and strong at the same time. But what struck me the most were the lyrics of the song. It was so sad and painful, like coming from a recent break-up. Did he just come from a heartbreak? I know I shouldn't be nosy but I couldn't help but wonder. (I know you're wondering too.)

I just stayed silent and listened more to his song. I looked at him. His eyes seemed to be in pain. His whole aura right now was gloomy that I wanted to comfort me. I didn't want to get too caught up with these kinds of things. I get easily affected. "Patrick, you wrote that?" I asked him, as soon as the song ended.

He nodded, his eyes looking down the ground. "Have you... I mean did you..." I didn't know how to ask him the right way.

He turned to me this time. "I had a long-time girlfriend and I was so sure that she is the girl that I want to spend the rest of my life with... but she left me." He faked a smile, then dropped his head.

I placed my hand on top of his. "My mom always says that everything happens for a reason. I'm sure there is a reason behind that, Patrick. Or if there is none, then maybe God has a reason why this thing happened to you."

He nodded. "Yeah. I guess you're right."

"Keep writing songs. I wanna hear more of it. But next time, make songs that aren't too depressing, okay?" I told him just to make him smile again.

He lifted his head up then smiled. "I'll do that. Thank you, Chastity." He suddenly hugged me, which startled me again.

I patted his back. "No problem, Patrick."
