I wasn't sure whether this should be filed under the 'cliche' title or not so it'll just be called Siblings instead. So this was requested by two different people both asking different questions; how do you write in siblings and what about twins?

So siblings, this is something I encourage your character to have because it can add a sense of realism to your character and make them relatable to some readers because they may have siblings as well. However, I don't encourage having the siblings be the stereotypical siblings who make the main character's life harder unless it is crucial to the plot.

When creating siblings you have to really take time to develop their character; you can't just make them too perfect or too terrible, they have to be a balance between the two. You have to give them flaws like every other character but balance it out with good character traits as well. This is kind of like the character chapter I did before.

Having twins in your story, that's a bit trickier. You can't exactly have them be mirror images through personality and looks because your reader may get confused about who's who and may even get annoyed. You should show that the twins have differing personality traits like one may be more selfish than the other or one may be more reserved while the other is extroverted and outgoing. If you're doing a fan fiction and your twins are of the canon character and your oc or reader, don't do it. That is a cliché that deserves to die.

How do you involve siblings?

This is something I personally struggle with in Beautiful Disasters because you see, Lance has four siblings and one nephew but at least one of his siblings are always left out because I don't know how to involve him. This is how I see it; plan out each sibling's role like Heidi is there to push the agenda of Lance and Keith being together, Vincent is there as moral support for Lance, and Marcia is there to help him develop as a character at certain points. Each sibling should have a role in the story and if they don't there is no need to even have them to begin with because they'll never have "screen time".

When involving siblings try not to make them overbearing or irritating to read about because that can seriously drive your readers insane to the point they won't read your story anymore.
