changbin didn't want his visits to felix to end. although they only just started, he felt as if not only the flowers were blooming but a connection between them. he couldn't let that go to waste, so he ditches his last couple periods of school. praying that the boy is there. and once he finds himself running down the trail, hastily making his way to the boy. the dirt scuffing up his shoes to the familiar scenery hitting him. there he finally spots felix, standing outside the abundance of flowers. he's checking their petals, ensuring their stems are doing well. he could hear the heavy breathing of the boy, turning around he spots changbin, huffing as he's out of breath.
"changbin? shouldn't you be at school?"
changbin shakes his head, "I wanted to see you. I want to spend more time with you."
"changbin I can't."
"we can!" changbin yells, he raises his hand as they then fall down to slap the sides of his hips. he smiles, giving felix a warm look as he's speaking the truth. "felix, I want you and I to become closer. I know we've only met but I know there is something blossoming between us."
"changbin..." starstruck by his words, felix feels his own heart race a bit. he looks towards the flowers, wanting to cry from the loving words the boy has just stated. "we can't..." is all he says to himself, but changbin catches on.
"why!" changbin yells, he walks towards the boy. unsure of what he was so afraid of. "why can't we? are you not telling me something that should be said! because please felix, you can't leave me to rot."
changbin watches as felix does not dare to look at him, he uses a hand. gentling using it to guide felix's face to come towards him, his skin was cold. ice cold. to be exact. "felix you're out in the burning sun? why are you so cold?"
"changbin we can't be together." voice soft yet harsh, a couple tears trickle down his cheek as he begins to speak. "you and I simply can't."
changbin wipes them away, "do you not want me to see you anymore?"
"no, it's not that.." he admits, his throat begins to become scratchy. he can't speak, "changbin..." he's able to choke out, a butterfly sits on changbin's shoulder. the shorter boy shocked, his eyes widen by the sudden appearance of the creature.
"woah, you're seeing this right?"
felix nods, he begins to sob even more. "you know what they represent?"
"what?" as the clueless boy questions, "love? friendship?"
"life." felix whispers, a voice now shouts at them. and felix can't say no more, the garden angel takes his leave from changbin's shoulder. while the shorter boy turns his back to check who it is. a woman is now angrily coming towards him, yelling words that aren't really audible.
"felix did you—" as he turns back around, the boy is gone. he looks towards the field of flowers but there is no sign of life besides the plants in front of him. finally, the woman stands close enough to changbin to where he can hear her.
"what are you doing here!? this place is off limits!"
"I—I was speaking to my friend felix. I think you scared him off with your yelling..." changbin awkwardly tells, the woman's eyes widen, "I'm sorry..I'll take my leave and—"
"felix?" as her harsh tone converts into a gentle one, "my felix?"
"is he your son? he told me we couldn't become attached. he stands in the middle of the field of flowers and has freckles." changbin shortly explains, the woman only listens. "he also said he wasn't much of a socializer."
"how long have you been seeing him?"
changbin shrugs from the question, counting the days within his mind. "for about three I believe."
the woman puts her hand over her mouth, she glances towards the field while her eyes start to water. changbin doesn't understand why, "I'm sorry..but why are you crying? is there something wrong with felix?"
she nods her head, changbin immediately asks what was up. he needed to know if the boy was doing well. "what's wrong? are people bullying him? is he doing well?"
"my son passed away three years ago.." she finally tells, "he committed suicide due to the lack of love and because of the harsh treatment he received from school. I'm just shocked to hear that he was here.."
changbin felt his own heart drop. felix was dead. that was impossible, only seconds ago they were conversing with each other. he just met the boy, how could this be?
"felix loved flowers..." she whispers, "the reason to why I made this place off limits is because in the middle of the field. there is a stone that has his name carved into it, simply for remembrance." she begins to wipe her falling tears, "he was such a good kid.."
"he's really...gone?"
she slowly nods, hating to admit the truth. "he wrote a note to us before he committed. he told us that butterflies are a way for the deceased to come and visit their loved ones. I hope he's doing well...did he bother you?"
changbin shakes his head, implying a no. "no...in fact, he's beautiful, he really is. and, I think I fell in love with him.." as changbin stares at felix's mother, eyes filled with tears.
