Chapter 8: Food! 3-12-16
Soon after the escape of the prisoner, came an orc to our cell. We could now see a lot better because the orc held a bright torch. Around his belt held a key and a dagger we noticed. He was tall and ugly like the rest of the Uruk Hai orcs. We were scared at first when we heard the orc coming, but then relaxed as the orc sat down in front of our cell. The hall outside our cell was only about four feet wide, so he was pretty close to us. He held a tray of meat it seemed and ate it in front of us. Our mouths watered, longing for food, even though that meat was raw and looked gross. I then remembered my throat was dry after I watched the orc guzzle down a jug of water. Well orc water, which looked black. EWW!
Another orc walked down the hallway to our cell with two small trays of food and two jugs of water. The orc came over to our cell and slid the things under the door.
Then he announced to us, "One meal and one jug of water a day until we search you. That should keep you alive until we are ready," Then he walked away.
Merry and I hungrily crawled over to the trays and jugs. Our legs weren't tied since we had got transported into this cell so it was easier to crawl around. We crawled back to the corner we were in before and started picking at the food. There was a piece of somewhat cooked meat and a piece of bread. We picked apart the cooked parts of the meat and kept the raw parts of it on the tray. The last thing we wanted to do was get sick from raw meat. Then we stuffed the bread into our mouths and champed away.
I was guzzling down my water jug when I looked to Merry. He was picking at the meat again.
"Still hungry? Me too. I guess orcs don't know you are supposed to have five meals a day," I shrugged.
"I am, but I'm trying to..." He schooched a little closer to me and whispered, "get the bone out. It might come in handy later,"
"Good idea," I said beginning to dig at my meat again too.
We put the bones in our pockets for later, and then pushed the trays back under the cell doors, along with the now empty jugs. As soon as we put our things under the door, the orc guarding our cell snatched both of the trays and ate the raw meat that was left on our plates.
I realized Merry had a fresh and clean bandage on his forehead. I guessed an orc put on a new one when we got put in this cell. I knew it would become a scar, but I hoped it wouldn't get infected. I saw the black gooey stuff again coming out from the edges of the bandage. Hopefully it was just medicine.
I began to think about Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Sam, and Frodo again. The same questions that filled my brain every day. Was Frodo alone still? Where was Sam during the Uruk Hai fight? Where were Aragorn and the others? Was anybody coming for us? There was no window in the cell to see if it was night or day. That means I couldn't gaze upon the gold stars or the yellow sun. I just sat there unaware of what to think or do.
