Light. Bright, warm rays of sun lazily drifting through the air. You blink your eyes open hazily and look up at a large, protecting figure that you know is your mother, Blossomclaw. You let out an enormous yawn, your little pink tongue curling as your jaws stretch wide, reluctant to move from the cozy spot among the soft moss that you'd snuggled into when you fell asleep.
"Hello, little one," she purrs affectionately, licking your soft fur. "You know what today is, don't you? You're six moons!"
You look up into your mother's gaze, cocking your head in confusion. "What-" you begin to ask, then loudly gasp, remembering. "I'm gonna be an APPRENTICE!!!!" you squeak in excitement, leaping to your paws and puffing out your chest as you eagerly shake the sleep out of your eyes. Blossomclaw's yellow eyes fill with undisguised amusement and pride, then, with one large paw, she gently nudges you out of the den, causing a surprised mew to pop out of you.
"Now, why don't you go play with the other kits? I'm sure they're all as excited as you are." Blossomclaw fondly watches you bounce off, a loving purr rumbling in her throat as she kneads the bedding, closing her eyes and settling back down peacefully.
Oatkit's amber eyes sparkle as she excitedly bounces up and down, chatting loudly to Nightkit, who sits beside her, his ears, which are pitch-black like the rest of him, pricked up in enjoyment. She sees you padding towards the clearing and she flicks her tail at you cheerfully, inviting you to come over and talk. A few fox-lengths away, a blur of grey, brown and orange catches your eye. Stonekit, Owlkit and Peachkit are playfighting, rolling around on the ground in a big happy lump of tussling and biting and kicking. Owlkit lets out a mock growl and frees himself, his dark brown pelt a flash as he launches himself back into the pile, battering Peachkit. The orange kit giggles and whacks him back, a mischievous look flitting through his hazel eyes, which is quickly returned by Stonekit's grey ones. The two kits gang up on Owlkit, shoving the triumphant kit off of where he was smugly sitting on top of them, purring in satisfaction. They all look up and spot you. Owlkit meows a distracted greeting. Then Stonekit grins again and she leaps onto Peachkit, leaving no time for Owlkit to complain as the play-fight dissolves back into a free-for-all. A quiet sigh comes from the corner, and you turn to see Lichenkit's blue-grey pelt blending in near a large boulder as his yellow eyes stare off into nothingness, deep in thought. He does this a lot, you remember, looking at him curiously. You wonder what he's always thinking about.
