"I've gotten so used to fighting with my team that it's strange battling without them." Shiro sighed, a little sore from a battle the previous day.
The other man chuckled, sitting beside him. "You sure talk about them a lot. You're like a proud dad."
Shiro rolled his eyes and nudged Matthew. "I'm just glad to know you're okay. I forgot to ask, but how are you holding up without your glasses?"
Matthew snorted. "It sucked ass when I was in prison, and when they broke me out, they made me things similar to glasses, then I kinda made contacts."
The black paladin raised a brow. "You just casually made eye-contacts in space?" Matthew shrugged as he took a sip from his cup. Shiro chuckled and shook his head. "Damn. Only you and Pidge could casually make anything in space."
Matthew huffed and set his cup down on the floor beside his feet. "Pidge is the unbelievably talented, smart, short, green paladin, right? Left arm of Voltron?"
Shiro breathed deeply, then nodded. "Yeah. She is."
"Man." Matthew snorted. "I'd like to meet her. Though, I doubt she wants to be surrounded by even more testosterone. She's the only girl aside from the princess, right?"
"Right." Shiro turned his head slightly.
Matthew leaned back, brows creasing. "Dude, you okay?"
Shiro gave a limp wave of his cybernetic hand. "Yeah, I'm fine, just... Thinking about how they're doing."
The younger man stared at Shiro a moment longer, then a smirk built up on his face. "Ooh, you like her!" Matthew sang and poked Shiro's side. Shiro's face instantly reddened. "I told you that you'd fall in love with a cute nerdy girl that could kick ass!"
"And I still find that strangely specific!" Shiro yelped, swatting Matthew's hand away as he stood. "But, I'm not in love with Pidge. I care for her a lot, but I'm not in love with her. We grew really close while being members of Voltron, but she's... More of... I don't know, a sister? She's my teammate and I care about her, but I don't love her like that."
Matthew sighed and shrugged, then slumped down into the oddly comfortable cushions. Why couldn't the cushions in the castle be this comfortable? "Fine, man. You're not in love with whoever she is... I'm still gonna try and hook you up."
Shiro sighed and carded his fingers through his hair. "I'm sure, Matt. You do that."

"...-iro... Taka-... Can you-...-nser me if you can-..."
Shiro snapped awake and fumbled for his helmet. Matthew groaned from the bed on the other side of the room. Shiro forced his helmet on as he got to his feet. "I'm here! I'm here, can you hear me!?"
"Shiro!"
"Takashi, oh thank God!"
Shiro slowly sat on the edge of the bed as Matthew sat up, squinting. "You're all okay..."
"We thought you were dead!"
"I'm not, Keith. I'm fine."
"Give me your coordinants right now so I can find you!"
Shiro smiled, rubbing his face. "Alright, alright. I'll get them to you just as soon as I have them, Pidge."
Any complaint Matthew might have had was swallowed. He smirked and sniggered. "Ooh, your girlfriend's worried about you."
The black paladin waved at Matthew as Pidge ranted on the other line about how he needed to hurry his ass up so she can get him back.
"Okay, alright. Calm down, Pidge. Let me get dressed. I'll talk to the commander in a tick."
"Better be the fastest tick of your life or I'll beat your ass." She grumbled. "We need you."
"I know." Shiro hung his head. "I'll see you soon."
"You better, Shirogane."
~
"Shit, dude, I can't believe I finally get to meet the other members of Voltron."
Shiro chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "Sure. Just try not to be too disappointed."
Matthew snorted, folding his arms. "Dissapointed?" He then scoffed. "Dude, your team is a pack of heros."
"They're... They're young... Teens." Shiro muttered.
"Makes them more bad ass." Matthew huffed.
"They're childish."
"... Alright, yeah, that does kinda change things." Matthew mused, then nudged Shiro. "Dude, calm down. It'll be fine."
Shiro sighed and nodded. "Yeah..."
Matthew chuckled. "Don't be so nervous to see your girlfriend again. You've missed her this whole time."
"Pidge isn't-"
"The castle of lions approaches." A taller, pale gray alien poked his head into the hangar. "They'll be here in a few ticks."
Shiro nodded. "Thank you Albone."
Albone smiled and gave a salute. "Form Voltron, paladin."
"I will, sir." Shiro smiled and returned the salute.
Albone then looked to Matthew. "Remember, you're representing us. Don't mess it up."
Matthew chuckled and gave a two-fingered salute. "Yes sir. Can do."
Shiro breathed deeply as Albone left, and looked down to Matthew. "Matt, I-"
"Shiro, are you there?"
The black paladin paused, then looked up. "Here, princess."
"Good, let's get you back."
Matthew grinned, then pulled his helmet on over his head. "Let's go, man."
Shiro nodded. "Right."
~
Shiro took his helmet off as soon as the doors shut and it was safe to breathe. Matthew laughed and ruffled his own hair once the helmet was gone. He whistled as he looked around. "Sweet, man. Clean."
The black paladin slowly nodded. "Yeah... Matthew, before they come in here, I have to tell you something."
Matthew blinked, then tilted his head. "Yeah, what's up?"
"Pidge... Isn't the green paladin's real name." He muttered and averted his gaze. A puzzled look crossed Matthew's face. "Her name... Is really Katie."
The other's eyes widened a fraction, then he chuckled nervously. "Whoa. Well, I guess Katie is a pretty popular name..." His voice shook slightly and his small smile wavered. Shiro looked back up at him and Matthew slowly frowned. "Shiro... She's... Katie's safe. On Earth. She doesn't even know about the Galra." Shiro's jaw tensed. Matthew's breath caught in his throat. "Right...?"
Shiro closed his eyes. "Katie is out here, searching for her father and brother..."
"H-how!?" Matthew's voice cracked. "No, you're lying. You're lying, Katie's home! With mom!"
"No... She's not..." Shiro whispered.
Both looked up as the doors to the hangar opened.
"Takashi!"
"Shiro!"
All the other paladins dashed over. Matthew's gaze caught the smallest paladin and he swore his heart stopped beating. She launched onto Shiro and he tightly embraced her.
"You're okay!" She cried happily, face smashed into Shiro's chestplate.
Shiro chuckled. "Yeah."
"It's so good to have you back!" The blue eyed one shouted with a bright grin. "Keith makes a pretty shitty leader."
"Hey!" The familiar red and black dressed one said.
The larger paladin was nearly in tears. "I'm so glad to have you back! You have no idea how difficult it is without you to break up Lance and Keith when they're fighting! Don't ever mysteriously vanish again!"
Shiro chuckled, reaching over to ruffle the chunky paladin's hair. "I'll try not to, Hunk."
The green paladins grinned as she looked up at Shiro through familiar, rounded glasses. "While you were gone, you couldn't tell me no, so I totally got Hunk to help me set up a new system to help with your arm. We can totally tear it apart and reconstruct it so it won't hurt when it's activated and so it won't activate during nightmares and stuff. Totally safe, much better, easier, and-"
"Katie?"
Everyone froze. Shiro stepped back out of the smallest paladin's arms. Her arms fell by her side and her eyes widened as she faced Matthew.
His heart thumped heavily in his, chest as He looked into her eyes. Tears stung his own eyes and she sucked in a shaky breath. It was difficult to tell, but even though her hair was pulled up into a messy bun, her hair was much shorter than the day he left. His glasses were perched on her nose and she grew just a little bit. Other than that, she looked just like his darling little sister he missed dearly.
"Katie..." He breathed and she whimpered, hands drawn to her chest. Matthew took a shaky, cautious step forward.
"M-... M-Matt?" Katie nearly gasped, tears spilling from her amber eyes and down her cheeks. "M-Matthew?"
His shoulders slumped, then he rushed to her. Katie sobbed as she was wrapped in his arms. She threw her arms around him, falling into his embrace. "Matthew!" She cried.
Matthew squeezed his little sister, sobbing softly as she wept onto his shoulder. "My little sister... My sweet, stupidly genius Katie..."
She laughed weakly, pressing her forehead into his shoulder. "My jerky older brother..." Katie muttered.
Matthew chuckled. "How did you manage to get launched into space, stupid?"
"Blame Lance."
"Oh, fuck you, Pidge!" The blue-eyed teen shouted. "I didn't tell you to come in Blue after me!"
Shiro sighed. "Enough."
Katie giggled and pulled back. She grinned up at Matthew, though tears were still in her eyes. "Way to get abducted."
Matthew smiled. "Yeah... I kinda broke my promise, huh?"
"Yes you did, you jerk." Katie stuck her tongue out and folded her arms over her chest. "Now you have to make it up to me."
"That'll be difficult, considering there's no peanut butter in space; let alone ten jars of it." Matthew huffed.
Katie twisted slightly with a haughty toss of her head. "Then I guess I'll never forgive you."
Matthew gasped, then threw his arms around her, pulling her to the ground. "No!" He shouted as Katie squealed and flailed out her arms.
"Matthew, damnit!" Katie snapped, then shrieked as she was held down by one arm and his other hand attacked her side. "Matthew, stop!" She wriggled to get out of his grasp, biting back bouts of laughter to no avail. The others laughed at her instead of bothering to help. "S-stop!" Katie gasped, tears building back in her eyes, cheeks already hurting from grinning and laughing.
"Never!" Matthew squeezed and nuzzled Katie. "Not now that I've got you back, stupid."
Katie huffed and elbowed him. "Jerk."
Matthew grinned. "I'll take it over bitch."
"You are a bitch."
"Aw, Katie!"
"Bitch."
"Alright, that's enough you two." Shiro chuckled and pulled them both back up to their feet. "Come on. Let's meet everyone else." Shiro gestured to the other three paladins. "They've been dying to meet you."
Matthew tossed an arm around Katie's shoulders, grinning up at Shiro. He then looked to the others. "I'm Matt. Nice to finally meet the defenders of the universe."
