Omega-Galran Keith :)
Keith curled up on the bunk, back pressed to the corner. He breathed deeply, eyes closed and knees hugged to his chest.
It's been five years since the war started and three since he and Lance became an official couple. He's known he was Galran for over four years now, yet he's still finding out new things about his Galran self.
Allura quickly became accustomed to Keith's Galran half and everyone else was very accepting. Lance had actually made it seem like nothing was different. Hunk seemed to like the fact Keith was half Galran and Pidge... Never cared about anything. Shiro never talked about it, even after they had gotten him back.
Keith was pretty sure he was the only one not accustomed to his Galran half, because Coran didn't seem to give two shits, either.
Now, Keith and Lance were married, Shiro and Pidge were in the beginnings of a relationship, and Hunk had finally gotten with Shay. Allura had yet to find someone of interest and Coran wasn't interested in finding someone.
Even though they were married now, Keith still had insecurities and secrets.
He just didn't know how to keep this secret anymore. He couldn't just up and leave. They're in a castle in space and need to form Voltron. Where would he go?
"Babe, what's wrong?"
Keith jolted, sucking in a sharp breath. "Lance... I didn't hear you walk in."
Lance smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed as Keith lay his legs out. "Yeah, you were pretty lost in thought. Come here." Lance opened his arms and Keith crawled into them. "What's the matter?"
"Just tired." Keith sighed, burying in sensitive nose in Lance's shoulder. "Nothing's wrong."
"Alright." Lance hummed and rested his cheek on Keith's head. "You didn't come out for dinner, so I got worried."
"Sorry." Keith breathed in, Lance's scent calming him.
"Don't apologize." Lance rubbed up and down Keith's back. "Pidge said she wants to hang out with you tomorrow. Said she's got a bunch of plans."
Keith chuckled. "I'd like that. I haven't had any good quality time with her in a while."
Lance sniggered and nuzzled Keith's neck. The smaller of the two laughed. "Sure, but tonight is my quality time with you."
They fell back onto the bed, Keith laughing as Lance attacked his neck with kisses and nuzzles. "Lance!"
"Mine, mine, mine!" Lance yanked off Keith's shirt, then tangled his fingers in Keith's hair. "This is all mine, right?"
"You sound like a child." Keith smiled, pulling Lance down for a kiss.
Lance grinned into the kiss. "Love you."
"I love you, too, stupid."
~
Keith crawled out of bed and got dressed as quietly as he could without waking Lance. Lance rolled onto his side with a groan, then hugged the pillow to his chest.
Silently, Keith left the room after placing a kiss to Lance's temple. Keith hugged Lance's jacket tightly around himself as he walked down the steadily brightening walls to the Green Lion's hangar.
The door slid open and he heard two voices instead of one.
"Morning."
Pidge and Allura both looked up, then grinned and waved. "Keith! Hey, I thought you'd still be asleep?"
Keith shrugged and and made his way over. "Lance snored in my ear and woke me up."
Allura giggled while Pidge snorted. "Even in his sleep, he's annoying. Hey, come over here." Pidge waved her hand.
Keith chuckled and obeyed her command.
Pidge began going on about an idea she had for more efficient communicators and how she wanted to test them with Keith when they were ready. Keith turned to Allura and leaned over to whisper to her. "I need to talk to you... Preferrably alone."
Allura blinked, then nodded, but then Pidge swiveled in her chair and looked up at Keith. She folded her arms and leaned back. Pidge certainly looked more intimidating than she had five years ago. "Uh-uh. Spill, right here, right now. While everyone else is asleep."
The red paladin gulped, then breathed deeply. "So, you know how a Galran's... Everything is nearly different from a human's, right?"
"Uh, duh?"
"So, uhm, I found out... A few days ago- well, I found out that it could happen a long time ago and I talked about it to Allura- but a few days ago I found out that I am-"
"Quiznak!" Allura cried, then her eyes sparkled and a big grin split across her face. Pidge scrunched up her face, trying to figure out what was going on. "Oh my goodness, I'm so happy- how have you kept it a secret!? Does Lance know!?"
Keith flinched at her higher pitch. "He doesn't even know I'm capable-"
"Hold the Goddamn phone." Pidge held up her hand. "What the fuck are you two talking about?"
Allura and Keith exchanged a glance before looking to Pidge. Allura looked ready to burst from excitement, and Keith looked nervous. His shoulders shook slightly as he sucked in a deep breath. "I'm... Pregnant."
~
"Holy fuck, What're you gonna tell him? How the fuck are you gonna pilot Red? How the hell are we going to form Voltron!?"
"Pidge, please calm down. I don't want the whole universe knowing."
"Right, right." Pidge breathed deeply several times until she was no longer practically bouncing off the walls.
Allura was also having trouble containing her excitement, but she was more quiet than Pidge.
Keith breathed. "I've been trying to think about what to tell him."
"Tell what to who?"
"Taka!" Pidge jumped excitedly and took her boyfriend's prosthetic hand. "Keith has a secret."
Shiro blinked, then raised a brow to Keith. "Secret?"
Keith nodded. "Yes... But I'm not," Keith eyed Allura and Pidge, "telling anyone else until I tell Lance." Pidge and Allura nodded rapidly.
The black paladin shrugged. "As long as it's nothing bad."
"Far from it!" Allura piped up. "It's wonderful new- oh, right. Okay. No telling." Keith shot Allura a glare.
Pidge snickered, then tugged Shiro over to her makeshift lab. "Okay, so I have this idea, and Keith said he'd help me with the testing and all, so you can take a break from testing with me."
"But I-"
"I know you don't mind, but you need sleep, stupid." As she stood on her chair, she leaned over and kissed Shiro's cheek. "Allura has a job for you right now, though."
"I do?" Allura tilted her head and furrowed her brows. Then realization crossed her face. "Oh, right! So, we found this piece of Galra tech-" Allura grabbed Shiro's arm and dragged him out of the hangar.
Keith blinked, eyes following them, then staying glued to the doors after they closed. "So... Did Allura really need him?"
Pidge nodded, climbing up onto the table. "Yeah. So, how do you plan on telling Lance you're having his kid? Or did you fuck someone else?"
"Pidge!"
"Right, right." The youngest paladin waved her hand, then pried a panel on one of her projects open. "So, will it be- 'hey, Lancey-poo. Guess what? I'm pregnant!' or how about, 'so, I probably should have told you sooner, but since I'm half weirdo alien, I can get pregnant, and now - since I never told you - I'm pregnant!'"
"I don't like my choices." Keith muttered as Pidge sniggered and hefted herself into the large, metal container. Keith would be concerned if he hadn't known her as long as he had. "Neither of those sound good."
"Dude, don't really say either of those." Pidge huffed, peeking back out of the container for just a moment before completely disappearing inside. "Sit him down and tell him you can get pregnant. If he asks if you are, tell him the truth. If he doesn't ask, save it for when he's absorbed the fact that you can."
Keith sat down in her chair. "I'll go with that. I just... I don't want him to think I've been lying to him or something."
Pidge huffed. "Dude, even if he did, he'd forgive you in point zero zero zero zero zero zero one seconds."
The red paladin laughed. "That's true. Alright. I'll talk to him today."
"Good. No waiting it out."
~
Lance whined and rolled onto his back as Keith sat on the edge of their bed. "Novio, where are you going?"
Keith smiled as arms wrapped tiredly around his waist and a face pressed lazily into his lower back. "I just came back."
"Bueno." Lance sighed, tugging on Keith's shirt. "Now stay with me forever and ever." Keith loved that tired, Spanish drawl in Lance's voice when he woke up.
"I have no where else to go. Now get off so I can lay down." Keith kicked off his boots as Lance unwinded his arms. Keith shuffled around on the bed until his was laying in Lance's arms, head resting on Lance's chest. "I need to talk to you about something." Keith started in a soft, nervous voice.
Lance hummed, running the tips of his fingers up and down Keith's arm. "What about? Need me to shave again?"
Keith huffed, but smiled. "No. I like your beard just like this." Keith reached up and brushed the pad of his thumb over his husband's unshaven jaw. "It's sexy... It has nothing to do with your beard- or any other haircut." Lance chuckled, placing his other hand on Keith's waist. "So, you know how different Galran biology is from Human biology, right?"
"Babe, yes. I'm married to you. You have heats - blessing from the heavens - and occationally you have adorable purple cat ears." Lance was certainly more awake, a playful ring in his voice. "What's this getting at?"
Keith breathed in deeply. "I should have talked to you when I found out, I was just... Nervous, I guess... But, my body is... It's capable..." Lance hummed and raised his chin to place on Keith's head. He didn't say anything, and instead waited for Keith to gather his nerves. "It's possible, because of my Galran genes, for me to... be with child."
Lance's fingers stopped on Keith's arm. Keith bit his lip and curled his fingers into the sheets. Finally, Lance kissed the top of Keith's head where his chin had just rested. "I had wondered that for a while. I knew your heats couldn't be there just for great sex." Keith huffed and hit Lance's chest. Lance laughed, then squeezed Keith. "Baby, don't think I'm going to get all mad because it's possible you can have a kid." The blue paladin sat up, raising Keith with him. "Come on, I'm starving and I gotta get dressed."
"Fine, but I'm keeping your jacket on."
"But, babe! It's cold!"
Keith just shrugged and smiled, nuzzling the collar of the jacket. Lance laughed and placed a kiss to Keith's forehead. "Fine. It looks better on you anyway."
~
Pidge nudged Keith as she sat beside him. "Well? How'd it go?"
Keith paused, spoon halfway to his mouth. He licked his lips and lowered the utensil. "Well... He didn't freak out."
"Weird."
"I know. I thought so too." Keith placed his chin in the palm of his hand. "He said that he's been wondering if that's why I have heats and stuff."
Pidge scooted closer and her voice dropped to below a whisper. "Did he ask?" Keith just shook his head and took a bite. Pidge huffed and slumped over the table. "Poopie." Keith chuckled and flicked her forehead. She whined and swatted at him. "Fuck off."
"Just wait. I'll tell him. I'm just doing what you said." Keith mused, then ate the rest of his lunch.
~
Keith sighed, kicked back in the commons. He lay across the sofa, staring at the ceiling. Someone walked in, so he began to speak whatever was on his mind. "We should make the castle more lively. It's so... It's lacking personality and warmth."
"You haven't said anything these past five years. What makes you say it, now?"
Keith rolled his head to see Lance. He smiled and opened his arms for his husband. Lance lay right on Keith and nuzzled him. "I was just thinking about it, was all."
Lance chuckled. "Well, I agree. We should really make this place more like home. Warm it up. Frame pictures of our adventures and paint. Lots and lots of paint."
The smaller paladin laughed, arms wrapping around Lance's shoulders. "I think I like the sound of that. We should take it up with Allura and Coran."
"Yeah." Lance sighed softly and pressed a kiss to Keith's neck. "Pidge says that you have something to tell me."
Keith's smile faltered. "I do..." Keith breathed deeply.
Lance rubbed Keith's side. "Does it have something to do with our talk this morning?"
"How did you connect the dots so fast?" Keith curled his fingers in Lance's hair, biting his lip.
The blue paladin snickered. "Babe, I'm married to you. I'd be a terrible husband if I didn't." Keith smiled, then watched as Lance wiggled down. "Also, I totally overheard Allura and Pidge. Those two together when they're excited... They cannot keep quiet."
"So... You know?"
Lance smiled, then kissed Keith's currently flat abdomen. "Yeah. And I'm super happy, Keith." His arms wound around Keith's waist and he buried and face in Keith's belly. "I've always wanted to be a dad. I promise, Keith, I'll protect you and the baby with everything I've got. I love you so much."
Keith smiled as well, carding his fingers through Lance's hair. "I'm just glad I didn't have to come out and say it myself. You have no idea how nervous I was."
"Babe!" Lance laughed and nuzzled Keith. "I definitely have an idea as to how nervous you were! You were shaking last night."
"I was?"
"Yeah. Bad." Lance chuckled and caressed Keith's sides. "Don't worry, though. I don't want to leave, and even if I did, where would I go? How could I with Allura and Pidge and Shiro? They'd kill me if I tried. Besides, I married you. I wouldn't have married you if I didn't want to go through everything with you. Through better or for worse, right? Sickness and in health."
Keith smiled and brought Lance up for a kiss. "And not even in death do we part."
~
Keith gasped as the latter he was on wobbled. He heard Lance shout and cuss before grabbing the latter. "Keith! Damnit, you shouldn't be up there!"
The red paladin huffed and stretched his arms out to the wall to finish what he'd started. "Fuck off. I wanted this done, and you weren't in here."
"Keith, you dumbass, you're fucking huge!" Lance yelped, then flinched under Keith's glare. "Babe, you're almost eight months. Not a time to be climbing latters and hanging a weird... Thing."
"One of the Fantusian's gave it to me." Keith grumbled. "I like it and I think it looks good in here. The baby might like it, too."
Lance sighed, then helped Keith down. "Keith, from now on, until the baby is born, come to me if you need something. I really just don't want you to accidentally hurt yourself or the baby."
Keith pouted, something he's perfected while being pregnant to get things he wants without actually getting them himself. Lance groaned. "I can do it myself. I'm not completely helpless. I've fought the Galra, I've lived alone for years, I can do it."
"I know, novio, I know. But now I'm here and we have a little Keith on the way." Lance brushed his knuckles over his husband's cheek.
"How do we know it's like me?" Keith crossed his arms. "It could end up being like you."
Lance chuckled and planted a kiss to Keith's nose. "I just have a feeling."
Keith smiled. "These one of those feelings? The ones that always end up being right?"
The blue paladin grinned. "Yup." Keith huffed in amusement, then hummed as Lance nuzzled him. "I can't wait..."
~
"So, how's being pregnant?"
Keith glared up at Pidge. "Shut up."
The younger paladin giggled and sat beside him. "They kicking again?"
The red paladin groaned and lay his head of the back of the sofa. "Yes. It hurts. They're kicking in all the wrong places. My stomach, my blatter, everywhere."
Pidge hummed, tapping Keith's swollen belly. "Mom always said that even though the nine months and the birth was terrible... It was always so worth it in the end to be able to hold her babies. She's always wanted more, but something happened when I was born and she can't have anymore babies because of it. She never blamed me, even though some mother's would if they had wanted more kids. She said it was a miracle I was even born." The green paladin sighed and rested her head on Keith's shoulder. "Mom said that my birth was her worst pain, but greatest joy... Clearly I was the favorite."
Keith chuckled, laying his cheek a top her head. "The thought of the pain I'll go through... Doesn't scare me so much."
"That's because you're weird." Pidge huffed, spreading her hand out over his belly. "I want a baby... But the pain freaks me out. A lot of women on Earth die because of the pain."
"I know..." Keith sighed. "But you've lived through this war. You're one of the five knights that can defeat Zarkon and tear down his ten thousand year long reign. I'm sure birth is nothing compared to the emotional, mental, physical trama these past five years has caused."
Pidge snorted. "Keith, birth is beyond the pain a normal person can bear. It's worse than any other pain. Pain half has much as birth pains can kill someone."
Keith hummed. "So comforting. Thanks."
"You're welcome." Pidge snickered, then poked back as the baby kicked at her. "Lance will be a good dad, Keith."
"And Shiro is already a good dad, even without a kid." Pidge smiled shyly, tucking her face into Keith's shoulder. "I'm sure you'd make a great mom, too. Just don't bring your kids into your lab at three in the morning."
"Damn. There goes my title as the fun parent."
~
Pidge was right.
She was so, so right.
Not that she was ever wrong, but...
Keith smiled, even though the pain hadn't faded. His brushed his thumb over a tiny, chubby, pink cheek. The being in his arms whimpered, curling it's little hands into fists.
"I told you, baby." Lance wrapped his arms around Keith, holding him to his chest as he looked fondly down to the swaddled baby. "Just like you. Your hair, your eyes, your cute little nose." Lance tilted his head to kiss Keith's slightly damp brow. "I'm so happy... I'm so proud, Keith."
"Proud of what?" Keith's throat hurt. It ached and felt raw. Torn up from the inside-out.
Lance hummed, then brushed his knuckles over their baby's cheek. "You. You were willing to go through this pain for our baby who we didn't even know until now... And I'm proud of who our son will grow up to be."
Keith smiled brightly up at Lance, tears in his eyes. "I love him so much, Lance... How?"
The blue paladin smiled softly and tucked a lock of hair behind Keith's ear. "It's how it goes, Keith. I love him, too. I love both of you."
Keith bit his lip, then looked back down. "I don't even know what to name him."
"I have a name." Lance breathed deeply. "How do you like Alejándro?" Keith tilted his head, adjusting the sleeping boy in his arms. "It means, 'defender of mankind.' It was my grandfather's name."
The red paladin raised the baby just enough to kiss his head. "I love it... But a middle name?"
"Red." Lance murmured with a smile. "After your lion."
Keith laughed softly. "Alejándro Red McClain... Welcome to Team Voltron... Welcome home."
~
Keith didn't count on being beyond tired. Alejándro kept him and Lance up for hours each night.
But the one night Alejándro was silent, when he was three-weeks-old, Keith couldn't get sleep.
He climbed out of bed and paced while Lance spread out on the bed and continued to snooze. Keith folded his arms, then started to chew on his thumbnail until he couldn't take it.
Keith rushed out and across the hall into Alejándro's room.
"Jesus-!" Pidge gasped, jolting. "Holy mother of all creation, Keith, you scared the be-Jesus out of me!" The green paladin his under her breath, Alejándro held to her chest with his head resting on her shoulder while he slept.
Keith's shoulders slumped in relief and he hugged his robe around himself. "Sorry... I couldn't sleep and he wasn't crying, so..."
Pidge smiled. "It's fine. I figured you two could use a break. Go on to bed, I've got him. Get some sleep."
The red paladin nodded, but didn't move. Pidge rolled her eyes, then stepped over. "Just a minute, then you go to bed."
Keith smiled, then gently took his baby from the green paladin. Alejándro fussed for a moment, his darker skin reddening on his cheeks before he fisted the fabric of Keith's robe and buried his face in Keith's shoulder. He whined a moment, then settled back into a peaceful sleep.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to make sure Shiro is asleep." Keith nodded to her, but didn't look up as she left.
Keith sighed and kissed the soft, fluffy hair a top his son's head. "So troublesome. Just like your father."
Alejándro shifted, so Keith switched him around to be cradled in his arms. Alejándro nestled into Keith's chest, then relaxed.
Once Pidge returned, Keith carefully handled him over to her. He almost snatched him back when he began to fuss, but the littler paladin glared at him and kicked his ankle. "I've got him. Get to sleep."
Keith bit his lip, then nodded. "Alright... Okay, fine. Alright."
Pidge nodded firmly, then shooed him out. She sighed once he was gone, and looked down to the baby.
"You know, you can tell me if you want one."
She looked up to see Shiro in the doorway with a fond smile spread across his face. Pidge pouted. "And then what? You'd give me all the reasons why I shouldn't have one in the middle of a war."
Shiro chuckled. "Well, maybe. But, also maybe, I just might 'forget' protection, accidentally giving you want you want."
Pidge grinned. "You sly jerk. Now it's not a surprise if you tell me you're going to do that. But I do want one." Pidge pet Alejándro's hair.
The black paladin hummed and stepped over. "We'll talk about it, Katie." He wrapped his arms gently around her and the baby. Pidge hummed and rested her head on his chest while also making sure they wouldn't harm the baby. "Maybe we can also talk about getting married."
Pidge smiled up at him. "Sounds good."
