Feelings
Lanlura
With some one-sided Klance
Uhm... Idk
Shit's gonna happen
Keith sighed as he stared up at the ceiling. Allura sat beside him, reading over something on an Altean tablet.
"All this data Blue had collected from Earth is quite astounding." Allura mused, looking over at Keith.
"Oh, yeah. Super cool." Keith muttered, twisting his knife between his fingers.
Allura frowned and set the tablet on her lap. "Keith, are... Are you angry with me?"
The red paladin blinked, then tilted his head back to look at her. "Angry? Why would I be angry? No, I'm just... I'm thinking, I guess."
"You guess?" Allura echoed, then giggled. "Alright. Humans are strange creatures."
"Strange?" Keith snorted and sat up. "If anything, you and Coran are the strange ones. Goo for food? You guys are literally the only aliens we've come across that has goo for food."
The princess laughed. "I suppose that is odd." Allura shifted to face Keith. "Tell me something about humans on Earth."
Keith huffed, but smiled. "I think I'm the least qualified person on this ship to tell you about other people on Earth, but I'll try. Uhm, well, humans are odd in their diet choices as well, I guess. We always have a wide variety of food ranging from fast food to fancy food."
"Fast food?"
"Yeah, well, the food doesn't run if that's what you're thinking. It's just made really fast so you can grab it and go. It's not the healthiest thing in the universe."
Allura chuckled. "I think we had something similar to that on Altea. We didn't call it fast food, though."
Keith smiled. "Must be a human thing."
"Must be." Allura giggled, then they both looked up as the doors to the commons slid open.
Lance poked his head in. "Hey, have either of you seen Hunk? I can't find him."
Allura nodded, dusting off her dress. "Last I saw, he was with Pidge talking about a machine they're planning on creating."
The blue paladin grinned. "Thanks! See you later!"
Keith sighed and slouched back. Allura tilted her head and looked over to the red paladin. "What's the matter? Has Lance made you upset?"
"No, it's not-" Keith paused and carded his hand through his hair. "It's not like he did it on purpose or anything, I just... Look, you can't tell anyone." Keith turned his head to look over at Allura. The princess nodded rapidly and shuffled around to get more comfortable. "Well, I like... I like Lance."
Allura blinked. "Well, you're supposed to. He's you're teammate-"
"No, no, Allura-!" Keith shouted, sitting up straight. "Not like that, like-... Like I... I want to be with him... I really... Really like him."
The princess stared, then gasped. "Oh my- oh! You-!"
"Shh!" Keith flapped his arms around, waving his hands in Allura's face. "Shut up! I don't want the whole fucking castle to hear!"
Allura giggled. "Sorry, sorry. Do you me to help?"
Keith creased his brows. "Help?"
The princess nodded. "Yes, help. I'm quite the matchmaker, if I do say so myself." Allura placed a hand over her chest. "I could talk to Lance, ease you into the conversation, and see how he feels about you. Then, I'll try and get you two together!"
"What!? No, Allura, I can't-" Keith then paused, then scooted closer. "You'd... You'd do that for me?" Allura nodded rapidly. A small smile eased Keith's lips. "Uhm... I guess we could try it. It couldn't hurt so bad."
Allura laughed. "Humans sure say that a lot."
"Say what?"
"'I guess.'"
Keith rolled his eyes, but shrugged. "I think that's just me."
"I've heard the other paladins say it." Allura stood and brushed off the skirt of her dress. "Well, come find me if you need anything. I must find Coran."
"Alright." Keith leaned back into the couch. "Thanks, Allura."
The Altean smiled. "No need to thank me, Keith... But you're welcome."
~
Allura was tired, yet she couldn't keep her eyes closed. She stared at the blank wall across her room, thoughts overwhelming her mind and keeping her from sleep.
With a soft sigh, Allura sat up and slid off her bed. She hugged her robe around herself and exited her room. Allura silently trodded down the halls, trying to force thoughts to the back of her mind.
A light coming from the bridge stopped her in her tracks.
Allura blinked, trying to think back to when she was putting the castle into night mode. "I was sure I turned off that light."
Carefully and cautiously, Allura made her way down the hall and peeked into the command center, then relaxed. "Lance."
The blue paladin yelped and jumped in surprise, pivoting to face Allura. "Princess! What are you doing up?"
Allura smiled and approached him. "I can't sleep. I should ask you the same thing."
Lance chuckled, shoulders slumping as he relaxed. "Just... Thinking."
"About Earth?" She asked softly, stopping beside him. "You miss home terribly."
"Yeah." Lance sheepishly rubbed at the back of his neck. "I keep wondering how my family is doing."
Allura hummed, looking up at Lance. "Will you tell me about them?"
Lance's blue eyes lit up and he grinned. "You really want me to tell you?" Allura nodded with an amused chuckle. "Okay, okay! Sit with me!"
The princess nodded and sat on the few stairs with him. Allura placed her hands in his as he looked up to the stars. "They're loud, annoying, nosy, and messy, but I love each and everyone one of them." Lance started. He breathed deeply. "Mom is always cooking. She's scary sometimes, but she's always there for us. Dad works a lot and is always tired, but he looks out for us. He's real fun and he has the worst dad jokes."
Allura smiled as she listened, leaning over to rest her head on Lance's shoulder. Lance continued on about his parents and siblings, even venturing off to talk about cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Excited, bright details spun a picture of the large family in Allura's mind. It was a nice picture to fall asleep to.
~
"There's a problem!" Allura cried as she stormed into Hunk's room.
Hunk shrieked as he woke, flinging himself out of the bed with his pillow and blankets. "Allura!" He shouted and scrambled to his feet. "What's wrong!? What happened!? Who's attacking!? Why aren't the alarms on!?"
Allura panted, then gulped. "Hunk, no one's attacking, I just have a serious problem and I think you're the only one who can help me!"
The yellow paladin blinked, then whined as he slumped. "What time is it?"
"Passed breakfast. We all already ate."
"Aw, quiznak." Hunk grumbled and rubbed his face as he sauntered out of his room. Allura followed after him. "What's going on?"
Allura breathed deeply. "So, the other day, Keith told me he likes Lance, right?"
"Mm."
"So, I told him I'd help him with finding if Lance returns the feelings and if he did, I'd help get them together. The thing is, I talked to Lance that same night."
"Yeah."
"So, he talked about his family as we held hands and I fell asleep on him and when I woke up I was in my bed, so I assumed Lance carried me back and I felt happy and everything, but since then I've only been able to think about Lance and when I do, I get really happy and excited and when I see him the feeling increases, then even more so when he smiles at me!"
"Okay."
"It's been two days since this started and I need it to stop because Keith likes Lance and these feelings I'm getting from Lance are making it difficult for me to even bring Keith up in any conversation I've recently had with Lance!"
"That sucks."
"Hunk, have you been listening?"
"Yeah. Keith likes Lance and now you like Lance."
"Hunk, please, please help me! I'm in dire need of help!"
The yellow paladin nodded and sighed. "Okay, alright... I just need to eat something first."
~
"Wait, what!?" Hunk screamed, halfway through his plate. He slammed his hands on the table as he abruptly stood. "Keith likes Lance and you like Lance!?" Hunk's eyes were way beyond wide in absolute shock.
Allura waved her hands wildly. "Hunk, quiet!" She cried. "Please, I don't want the others to hear! And Lance certainly cannot know!"
"Oh, man. Oh man, oh man, oh man." Hunk chanted as he slowly sunk back into his seat. "Oh boy."
The princess whined and slumped over the table. "Hunk, please, will you help me?"
Hunk furrowed his brows and massaged his temple. "Uh, with what? How do you want me to help?"
"I don't know!? Help me get rid of these feelings so I can help Keith get together with Lance!" Allura flung her arms up, then stood. She began to pace back and forth. "I'm a terrible princess. Simply terrible. How could I do this to my paladins?"
"Princess, this isn't your fault." Hunk assured. "Feelings like these develope on their own. You can't help it. They'll stop when they want."
Allura looked pathetically over to Hunk. "So... I'll just... Have to get Lance and Keith together when I have these feelings?"
Hunk shrugged. "Or you could tell Keith-"
"Absolutely not."
"Tell Lance, then-"
"Quiznak, no."
"Look, princess, I'm glad you trust me enough to confide in me with your feelings, but..." Hunk sighed. "I really think you've got to come clean with your feelings to one of them."
"I have to?" Allura returned to her chair and slowly sat back down.
Hunk sighed and shook his head. "You don't have to, princess, but you'll probably feel better-"
"Probably!?"
"Calm down, Allura." Hunk murmured. "Keith may be upset about it, but he also may be glad that you're honest with him."
Allura sighed and looked down. "Okay... Just give me a day or so and I'll tell one of them."
Hunk smiled. "Alright. Take your time, princess."
~
Was confessing this difficult for humans as well?
Allura poked at her goo with a small pout.
Shiro chuckled from beside her. "You look like you were just told 'no.'"
The princess huffed and straightened up. "I'm just... This is so difficult. Do I hurt one's feelings with my own feelings, or do I tell one my feelings, hoping they'd return the feelings when I know another has the same feelings towards the one I'm sharing my feelings with?"
The black paladin blinked, amused grin slowly sinking. "Uhm... What? You lost me?"
Allura sucked in a deep breath. "Do I confess my feelings to someone who has similar feelings, or do I confess to the one my feelings are towards?"
"Can I... Have an example?"
"Well... Say you hate Zarkon-"
"But-"
"Work with me, Shiro. So, you hate Zarkon."
"I hate Zarkon."
"Right, so you tell me you hate Zarkon, and I decide to help you tell Zarkon. So, say I go talk to Zarkon and we have this ni- terrible, a terrible conversation, and I find out that I hate Zarkon, too."
"Okay?"
"So, say that I then go talk to Hunk about it, because what am I supposed to do?"
"Alright?"
"So, Hunk tells me to either tell you, because you'll be either glad I told you, or upset that I have the same feelings for Zarkon, or tell Zarkon, who may not return my feelings of hatred."
"Uh-huh."
"So do I tell you that I hate Zarkon like you do, or do I tell Zarkon I hate him, even if he doesn't return my feelings?"
Shiro pursed his lips and looked down in thought. "Well... So, we both hate Zarkon." Allura nodded firmly. "I think that if you truly hate Zarkon, tell him. If I hate Zarkon, I'll tell him myself."
Allura whined. "But what if Zarkon then has to chose between us whom he hates that most?"
The black paladin hummed, tapping his chin. "I think... I think that... If Zarkon returns your hate, but doesn't return my hate, I'll accept that and move on."
The princess blinked, then relaxed. "Move on? Just like that?" Shiro nodded. "Okay. Alright... But how do I confess my hatred towards Zarkon to Zarkon?"
Shiro chuckled. "That's... Not something I can help you with, Allura. That's something you have to figure out on your own."
Allura sighed and slumped, but didn't argue. "Thank you, anyway."
~
"Do you think that the Galrans will ever give us a rest? Even for just a moment?"
Allura blinked owlishly, then looked up at Lance. "Why do you ask?" She whispered.
Lance sighed, closing his eyes. "I'd like to go home... Even if it's only for just a few ticks, I want to tell my mom I'm okay."
The princess sighed and took his hand. Allura leaned closer and rested her head on Lance's shoulder. "I wish you could as well." Lance hummed.
It was another long night. Neither could sleep, so they sat together on the stairwell.
"I think your dad would be really proud of you." Lance murmured. "You're strong and level-headed. You're calm and confident in yourself and your choices. You're a great princess, Allura."
Allura smiled, looking up at him through her lashes. "Thank you, Lance. That means a lot to me."
Lance smiled and glanced down at her. "Anytime, princess."
"So, I've been meaning to ask you," Allura started, looking away. "How have you and Keith been getting along?"
"We've been okay, I guess." Lance shrugged slightly. "I feel kinda like... He's avoiding me? I don't know. I should probably work with him a little more, huh?"
"Might help strengthen Voltron." Allura murmured, furrowing her brows.
Lance breathed deeply. "Might... We should get to sleep."
Allura lifted her head. "Yeah. We should."
The blue paladin stood up, helping Allura up with him. "Come on. I'll walk you to your room."
"Thank you." Allura smiled.
~
"Any luck?" Keith mused as he lay over the couch.
Allura gulped. "Yeah, a little... Last night. He said that he wants to work with you more."
Keith smiled slightly. "Work? Like, train, or something?"
"Yeah... Maybe should you ask him? He thinks you're avoiding him." Allura refused to look up at the red paladin. She kept her focus on the tablet in her hands.
"Avoiding him? No, I just... I'm not really one to really express my feelings correctly."
"There's no correct way to express your feelings." Allura muttered. "You just... Express them or you don't."
Keith chuckled. "Yeah... I guess so."
~
Allura's heart leapt as Lance smiled and waved at her from his spot on the training floor. She stood up in the control room with Coran. The princess returned the smile.
"Alright, you know the drill, paladins." Coran mused, flicking a switch and pressing a button. "Try not to get shot while protecting your fellow teammates."
"I got this drill in the bag, Coran!"
"Uh-huh. Sure."
"Shut up, Pidge."
"Alright, you two. Stop it and focus on training."
Allura giggled and shook her head. "Paladins are ridiculous."
~
Lance stared up at the ceiling, resting his head in Allura's lap as she carded her fingers through his hair. "Hey... Will you tell me about Altea?"
Allura smiled, petting his hair back out of his face. "Of course. What do you want to know?"
The blue paladin switched his gaze from the ceiling and to Allura's eyes. "Tell me about Altean waters. Did you guys have rivers or oceans?"
"Oh." Allura mused, brushing her thumb over his cheekbone. "Yes, we did. Our planet was mostly water, like Earth. Our oceans expanded as far as the eye could see when we were on land. However, our rivers were in the sky. They flowed like tunnels, twisting and coursing. It always amazed us to see water creatures swimming above us."
Lance smiled. "That's so cool... I would have liked to see that."
"I think we have videos or pictures somewhere. I could find them and show you."
"I'd like that."
~
"We're trying a new exercise today!"
"I don't like this exercise..."
Pidge and Hunk sniggered, Lance grinning and waving up at Allura. Shiro rubbed his face and Keith furrowed his brows in confusion.
Blocks hovered in the training room, Allura bound to the top block.
"This exercise is simple," Coran started with a wave of his hand. "You have to climb these blocks. Whomever reaches the princess and gets her to safety first, wins!"
"Wins what!?" Keith shouted.
"A royal kiss for the person who gets me down from here!" Allura snapped from her block.
Lance suddenly smirked and pulled on his helmet. "Oh, man, I am so ready for this. Alrighty, Coran! Ready whenever you are!"
Coran responded with a wink and a thumbs-up.
Shiro sighed and shook his head.
"Ready! Set! RESCUE THE PRINCESS!"
Coran slammed his hand down on a button, sounding the buzzer and beginning the exercise.
The paladins bolted for the lowest blocks and began.
Pidge shrieked as she was suddenly flung from her block. Hunk shouted as he fell through his second block and Shiro yelped as his block began shooting at him.
Keith and Lance exchanged looks, then smirked.
Lance heaved himself up onto his third block, then leapt to grab onto the neighboring block when it had began to open up.
"Not bad!" Keith commented as he pulled himself up onto his new block.
The blue paladin snorted. "You're not so bad yourself, hot stuff!"
Allura blinked as she listened, heart throbbing painfully at the quick exchange. Well, it was her objective to get them together in the first place. She supposed she should have known.
Keith let out a rather unmanly screech as he was suddenly flung from a block. He managed(in his flailing) to catch on to the block below.
Lance was making great time, stumbling or slipping every now and then. As he went, he seemed to study the blocks. Just two more blocks and he'd reach Allura. However, after that, he'd have to get her down safely. Unharmed and keep her from the other paladins.
Allura's pretty sure she's going to die today.
Shiro was quickly catching up.
Lance screamed as his new block started shooting at him, and launched himself over to the next block. He panted and hefted himself up, then lashed out to grab the other side with the block opened up. Lance blinked, waited until it closed again, then climbed up and bolted for the next block.
"Almost there, princess!" Lance grinned on a non-rigged block.
"Thank Altea!" She gasped, jerking on her restraints around her ankles.
Lance chuckled, then leapt. He caught the edge of the next block and pulled himself up. Lance yelped as the block started to shake.
"Don't you quiznaking dare fall now!" Allura snapped as Lance flailed about.
"I won't, I won't!" He cried, activating his jet pack just before he fell off. He caught the edge of Allura's block and the princess nearly wilted in relief. "See?"
Allura rolled her eyes, but smiled and offered her hand. Lance took it, and helped her lift himself up.
Lance whipped out his bayard with a grin. "Ready to get down?"
"I've been ready since I was strapped to this quiznaking block. Please don't shoot my feet."
The blue paladin laughed. "Trust me a little, princess. Stand still, beautiful."
Allura folded her arms and, again, rolled her eyes.
Two blasts from Lance's bayard and Allura was free. Allura yelped as Lance suddenly scooped her up in his arms. "Hold on tight, princess." Lance mused and winked at Allura as she blinked owlishly up at him. He then snorted. "I always wanted to say that."
"Just get me down you- LANCE!" Allura shrieked and threw her arms around Lance's shoulders as he used his jetpack to launch off the block.
He bounced down the blocks smoothly, keeping a firm hold on the Altean princess. Once he reached the ground, he chuckled. "You want down, or do you want to stay up a little longer?"
"Down, I want down!" She shouted, thrashing out. Lance laughed and set her down. "Thank you!"
Lance snickered and leaned over. "Forgetting my prize for winning?"
Allura blinked, mid-brushing off her torso. She looked up at him as the other paladins climbed down the deactivated blocks. "Pri... Oh!" She gasped. "Oh- oh, right! Uhm, a kiss... A kiss." Allura gulped, her heart now suddenly racing and gut twisting nervously.
The blue paladin chuckled. He grabbed her hand and her waist, drawing her closer. Allura gasped as she was suddenly dipped, eyes widening as warm lips pressed to hers.
The princess hummed, eyes fluttering shut as she relaxed into the kiss. Allura slid her other hand over Lance's shoulder and into his hair as he pulled her back up. Her eyes stayed shut a moment after their lips parted, then she looked up into Lance's eyes.
"Looks like someone's getting ass tonight."
"Pidge!"
"What? You always tell me to be more supportive of my teammates. I'm being supportive!"
Allura pulled away, clearing her throat and looking down. "Well, uhm... I-I should go, uh, find the mice..." She gestured to the door, taking a step back. "Bye!" Allura squeaked, then bolted out of the training deck.
~
"What the fuck was that?"
Allura gasped and jumped, pivoting sharply to look at Keith as he stomped closer. "Keith, I can explain-"
"Then explain!" He snapped, tossing his helmet and bayard. Allura flinched. "Is it because you hate the fact that I'm half-Galra and still don't trust me!?"
"No!" She cried, taking a step back. "That's not it at all! I hadn't meant for that kiss-"
"You're the one who said-!"
"I said that because I was desperate to get down!"
"You've been talking to him all this time-"
"But I didn't mean for any of this!" Allura shouted. "I didn't want it to go this way! I wanted to help you two get together, I did! I tried, even after I fell for him!"
Keith paused. "You... You what?"
Allura gulped and looked down, hands over her chest. "I meant it when I said I'll get you two together... I couldn't sleep that night, so I went for a walk... I found Lance, and we talked for a moment before sitting down and he told me about his family. I fell asleep and he took me to my room. I haven't been able to get him out of my head since. I asked Hunk what I should do and he told me to either tell you or Lance. Shiro - technically - told me to tell just Lance... I haven't told Lance because you love him, too. When we talked, I'd try to bring you up. I did. We'd talk about you for a moment, then we went off to bed. I'm so sorry, Keith, I hadn't meant... I hadn't meant for it to go this way."
The red paladin looked away, glaring at the floor. He breathed deeply, then let it out through his nose. "This is... What we get for be the only ones locked in a castle in the middle of space."
Allura gulped, unsure if she should smile or not. "I'm sorry..."
"Don't apologize." Keith murmured. "Obviously... Lance has chosen you... I should have come clean a long time ago, but I didn't, and now it's too late."
"Keith..."
Keith looked back up at Allura. "You deserve him more than I do. You need him more than I do. Just... Make sure you're happy with him and he's happy with you."
Allura smiled, then nodded rapidly. "Of course! I will!"
~
"Lance, you idiot!" Allura snapped as she stormed up to Lance. The blue paladin grinned, sheepishly scratching the back of his neck. "You stupid fool, you nearly got yourself killed out there!"
"Sorry, babe." Allura faltered, face reddening at the pet name. "I won't do it again. I promise."
"You better not." The princess murmured.
Lance chuckled, wrapping Allura in his arms. "I won't." He mused, kissing her cheek. "Want to spend another night under the stars with me?"
Allra smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. "That sounds wonderful,"
