She awoke in a room filled with gadgets and machinery. The walls looked like iron and the tables were made of cold steel. She looked around to see others, some strapped to strange machines, some to tables like hers, and others were cowering in corners. The 5 year old tried to move her arm but could not and began to panic when a tall man in a white doctor's coat walked over.
"Sleep tight, Aki." The man spoke as he jabbed a needle in her tiny arm.
All she saw next was black..

Aki awoke again in a room with bars at the front. She sat up to feel a sharp, eminent pain in her head and lower back. Aki reached up to her head to feel two long, leaf-like ears. With the other hand, she reached down and felt a single long, leafy tail.
  "Am I a Pokémon?" She looked around to see other rooms like hers; some with weeping people, some with angry people, some with quiet people, and others were like her, made partially into Pokémon. One male, who looked around 6, caught her eye. He had bright blood-red hair with two orange and black ears and a long, puffy, red and black tail.
  In a quiet voice, the 5 year old spoke, "What's your name?"
  The 6 year old raised his head, "Dan." His eyes looked lonely and pain filled as he looked at her. They were also full of anger but also of sadness.
  "I'm Aki! I-I think I have Leafeon ears and tail!.." Aki became saddened by her own words, wishing her parents were there with her.
  Dan's tone seemed a bit angry, "I have Arcanine ears and tail thanks to those doctors. I wish I coul-" His sentence was cut off when two doctors opened each of their rooms. One grabbed Dan by his shirt, the other grabbed Aki by her hair. Dan tried to punch and kick the doctors when he heard Aki scream quietly. The two easily dragged them away and gave them each a shot, which gave them their respected types. Then they both just saw pitch black as they passed out.

  Many hours later, Aki and Dan both woke up to the sound of sirens. The two had been put in the same room after the last experiment and they looked around. All they saw was red.
  "C'mon hurry! The doors are open!" Dan yelled over the blaring sirens as he yanked the door open. Aki stood up and ran to Dan, then they both ran out the door. Aki tripped on the way out but Dan spun around and helped her up before one of the nearby doctors could grab her. She held onto his hand as they ran into the red lighting.
  "Aki! Aki dear come here!" Aki spun around to see her parents, both still human. Aki took one last look at Dan then ran to her parents.

  All the experiments escaped, and Aki and Dan never saw each other again, at least not for 12 years.
