Chapter 6: Confrontation

P.O.V. [Name]

I sighed as I looked at the female in front of me. We had just got done listening to Esdeath's next plan. Leone suddenly came to a stop in front of the hall that lead to our room. I stopped seeing this and turned to look at Leone. "Is something wrong?" I asked as I looked at the female in front of me.

"No," She said as she looked at me. "It's just . . .I'm going for a walk," Leone said as she looked at me. I was a bit confused hearing this but nodded nonetheless. She was probably still a bit confused about how to be feeling and I'm sure the fact that she was forced to kill one of her friends isn't helping her.

"Okay," I said as I looked at her, she nodded hearing this and turned before she began to walk away from me. I watched as she slowly made her way towards the exit and took a step forward about to walk after her but I stopped myself. I'm sure if she wanted me to go with her then she would have asked. I'm sure that right now she just wants to be left alone. I began to make my way back to our room however I stopped just as I reached the door.

However I stopped myself suddenly being overcome with a feeling of dread. I then turned and began to run down the halls of the capital. I don't know why I'm worried, Leone's strong and she's more than capable of taking care of herself. But for some reason I just can't shake this feeling. I eventually ran out of the building and began to think of an area that Leone might want to go to. After a while an area came to mind and I began to make my way towards it as fast as I could.

When I finally arrived I saw a female with long back hair and red eyes fighting Leone. I recognized her picture from the wanted posters that were scattered all throughout town. That was Akame, I ran towards her grabbing my sword as I did. I saw that Leone had already activated her imperial arm so Akame must really be a threat. Leone was using her claws to stop her attacks, which must have been fairly challenging given how fast Akame was.

I stopped one of the attacks but before I could follow up on it Akame kicked my head and used it to jump away and put some distance between us. "You traitor!" Akame said as she rushed forward with her blade. I tried to do what I could to hold her off but she was a lot a faster than I was. She managed to get past me and once again tried to bring her blade down on Leone. Thankfully she managed to stop the attack with two of her claws.

"We trusted you!" Akame said as she looked down at the female. Leone kicked her managing to send her several feet back. While it seemed like Akame was faster Leone was still a lot stronger.

"Don't let her cut you," Leone said as she took a fighting stance next to me. "One cut from her blade will kill you," Leone said as she looked at me. I nodded hearing this and looked at the female in front of me preparing myself. She stared at us for a moment before swinging at the ground sending up several rocks and swinging at them sending them towards us.

I raised my hands seeing to stop the attack and watched her run away. I was about to run after her but felt Leone stop me. "It's pointless to run after her," Leone said as she looked at me. I gritted my teeth hearing this before letting out a sigh.

"Alright," I said letting my guard down and looking at Leone who went back to her usual form. "Are you okay?" I asked as I looked at the female. Leone nodded hearing this and smiled.

"Thanks," Leone said as she looked at me. "Well since you're here want to join me?" Leone asked as she looked at me. I nodded hearing this and we began to walk down the streets together. As we did we made our way to the park and I noticed that Leone was trying to keep to herself.

I turned to look at her a bit concerned seeing this. "Still thinking about your friends?" I asked as I looked at her.

Leone nodded hearing this and looked up at the sky with a sigh. While it wasn't as obvious or as persistent as when she first joined betraying her friends still seemed to haunt her slightly. A fact that I'm sure only became stronger when she was forced to kill one of them. As we walked I looked at her and a strange thought came to a mind.

"Why did you join them?" I asked as I looked at the female in front of me. I had never really questioned why she had joined them until now. However now that I'm thinking about there had to be a reason right? People don't just join a cause without a reason, especially as something as risky and dangerous as a rebellion.

Leone seemed a bit shocked hearing this and sighed as she looked at the ground. "It . . .  it's a long story," Leone said with a sigh as we eventually came to a bench and began to sit down.

"Well it's not like we don't have time," I said as I looked at the female beside me. Leone sighed hearing this and began to lean against me. It was clear she was debating weather she should tell me or not. I smiled seeing this and looked at the female "It fine," I said as I looked at her causing her to look up at me a bit surprised.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," I said as I began to hold her close. "I'm finally able to be with you like this, as much as I want. The last thing I want to do is ruin something this amazing," I said with a smile as I continued to hold the female close. Leone smiled hearing this and nuzzled against me.

I smiled being able to smell her scent and have her this close to me. If it meant I could be with her there's nothing I wouldn't do. After a few moments of silence I felt Leone began to shift under me clearly a little nervous. "I'll tell you, if you promise not to tell Esdeath," Leone said as she looked up at me. I nodded hearing this and looked down at the female.

"Of course not, I know how violent she can be. Especially when she's mad," I said as I looked at the female Leone chuckled slightly hearing this and looked at me. She reached for one of my hands and intertwined her fingers with mine.

"I joined because I had found out some disturbing things about the capital. It's corrupt and the reason this kingdom is in such disarray is all the doing of the prime minister," She said as she looked at me. I was shocked hearing this and felt my heart drop hearing this. "He's corrupt and he's keeping the emperor from seeing the truth. He keeps doing horrible things to people, he doesn't care who he hurts or who he has to kill to do so," Leone said as she looked at the ground.

As she said this I began to think about what she was saying, that would explain all the rich and politically powerful that were always being accused of things, that usually got dismissed the next day. If the Prime Minister was friends with them of course he'd dis regard the accusations or try to cover them up, even if he didn't know them he could still cover them up in exchange for a few favors!

"That . . . that is bad," I said as I looked at the ground.

"Yeah," Leone said a bit saddened by the thought as she looked at ground with me. Well now I can see why she's so upset, not only did she have to betray her friends but she knew from the moment that she did that she was joining the bad guys. I can't believe I was stupid enough to not see something as obvious as that! I knew there had been some talk about the emperor but he's just a kid! I just assumed that he would get better at ruling as he grew up!

Now that I think about it, it's possible that the Prime Minister killed his parents, they did "conveniently" die a few weeks after he became the Prime Minister after all. I can't believe I let myself be fooled by something that was so obvious. That's . . . that's not what my master had in mind when he got me this job. He'd be ashamed by the fact that I let myself be deceived like this.

"Alright then," I said as I turned to look at Leone, when I did Leone looked at me a bit confused. "If that's the case then we can't let something like that be ignored," I said as I looked at her. Leone seemed a bit shocked hearing this but smiled nonetheless as she looked at me.

"Yeah! We can't just-wait . . . you're not going to tell Esdeath are you?" Leone asked as she looked at me and I shook my head.

"No of course not, I promised you after all. Not to mention that even if I did chances are nothing would happen . . . or at least not anything good," I said with a sigh as I turned to look at Leone. "That's why we're going to eliminate him," I said as I looked at him. Leone smiled hearing this and stood up now seeming to be in much better spirits.

"I . . . I don't think I understand," Leone said as she looked at me.

"Well we can't go to Esdeath because it'll undoubtedly backfire on  us, and we can't go to Night Raid since they're most likely still going to be upset about what you did. So we're going to kill the Prime Minister ourselves," I said as I looked at the female in front of me. Leone looked at me a bit shocked hearing this.

"Are you sure?" Leone asked as she looked at me and I nodded.

"Yeah, think about it we're in a better position to do it than anyone else. I know we can do it if we have enough time and while Esdeath might be watching us if she hasn't figured out that the Prime Minister isn't corrupt then there's no way she'll think we're traitors," I said as I looked at the female in front of me.

Leone smiled hearing this and nodded as she looked at me. "Great so where do we start?" She asked as she looked at me.

"I . . . I don't know, I'll need some time to work out all the details but from now on I don't think we'll want to kill any more members of Night Raid. The more of them there are the more trouble the cause and the less suspicious we look," I said as I looked at the female in front of me. Leone smiled hearing this and reached forward to hug me.

I can only imagine how happy she is now that she knows she won't have to kill anymore of her friends. She continued for several minutes until she finally stopped before looking at me and leaning forward to kiss me. "I love you," She said as she looked at me with a bright smile. It had been a while since I saw such a happy expression from her. I smiled and leaned forward pressing my forehead to hers.

"Now that's a smile I'd like to protect," I said as I looked at the female causing her to smile even more brightly. I promise that as long as I'm alive that I'll try to make her as happy as possible.
