True Family: Chapter 2

"Rise and shine sweet heart." I heard a voice whisper.

I groaned and pulled the sheets over my face. "Go away." I mumbled.

"Look what we're stuck with Mavis, a baby that won't even get up." I heard the same voice who whispered. Martin?

"Get up Jackson." Mavis said poking my side.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"Thought we'd walk to school together." Martin said, looking around my room, picking stuff.

"Are you looking for something?" I asked him with a raised eye brow.

"Nah."

"Who let you guys in anyways?" I asked getting up from bed.

"Your mom. Your family were not happy to see us first thing in the morning." Mavis chuckled.

I smiled. "I'll be there in a minute. Let me just take a quick shower."

"We'll be outside." Martin said walking out of my room closely followed by Mavis.

I shook my head and laughed. I better hurry up or else I'll hear an ear full later.

I quickly took a shower and threw on a pair of jeans and a nice shirt. I didn't bother combing my hair.

I raced downstairs and found everyone sitting in the living room, including my cousins.

"Hi guys." I called out, grabbing a granola bar.

"At last. Now we'll wait for Joey and we can all leave." Linda said.

"Oh. Well Mavis and Martin are here so I'll go with them." I said.

Tracey rolled her eyes. I heard Trent scoff and Lisa give a humorless laugh.

"Have fun." Tony sarcastically said.

"Thanks. You too." I said and walked out, not wanting to start another argument.

It's not my problem that their jealous of my friendship with Mavis and Martin. Just because I found an everlasting friendship and they didn't, doesn't mean they had to be so rude!

"Took you long enough. Mavis doesn't even take this long to get ready." Martin commented once I walked up to them.

"What's that suppose to mean?" Mavis asked, eye brows raised.

I laughed. "Probably shouldn't have said that, Martin."

"I'm not scared of you, Mav." Martin said.

I rolled my eyes. "Let's go to school or else we'll be late."

"Of course we can't have that." Martin said, sarcastically.

"Come on Martin, you know how important this is to Jacky." Mavis teased.

"Wow, you guys are such supportive friends." I said bitterly.

"Hey, I'm kidding bro. I get where your coming from." Martin said, giving me a good punch.

"And we'll always support you." Mavis said, slipping her hands in between mine. I smiled at her.

This right here is what I call family.

"Jackson, stop talking or else I'll be forced to give you detention." my English teacher demanded.

I gulped, suddenly terrified. I can't get detention. It'll ruin my clean record and my chance of being the captain.

"I'm sorry ma'am. It won't happen again." I quickly apologized.

"That's what you said the last time, Mr. Marvin. If you and your friend don't stop talking during my class, it's detention for the both of you."

"Yes ma'am. Sorry."

She gave us one more deadly look then went back to her work. I sighed and looked over at Martin who was smirking. I gave him a deadly glare.

"What? Chill bro, she won't really do it." Martin whispered.

"Be quiet. I don't want to get in trouble" I whispered back.

"Oh come on. Are you really that scared?"

I didn't reply.

"Oh now we're playing the ignoring game?"

Still no reply.

"Geez Jack, I get that this keeping a clean record thing is important to you but you don't have to be a jerk about it."

I balled my fist and clenched my jaws from anger. If there was one thing that Martin and I argue about, it's this.

He just doesn't understand how important this is to me and that one mistake can lead to everything falling apart.

"I don't know why you're giving me a hard time Martin but out of everyone, you should understand most." I whispered. That shut him up.

I knew it would.

I wasn't the only one who dreamt of being the youngest captain. Martin did too. So we decided to both try and the one who gets it, gets it. We didn't try to sabotage each other or anything, in fact we helped each other on many occasions.

But then things got ruined for him.

The bell started ringing, snapping me out of my thoughts. I gathered my book and went to my locker, not wanting to talk to Martin.

The hallway was crowded and I accidentally hit someone with my elbow.

The person let out a little scream and bent over.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know...." I stopped when I realized who it was. "Tory?"

"Hey goof. Thanks for trying to kill me."

"I'm so sorry. It was an accident."

"I know. It's fine." she replied, still bent over holding her stomach.

Just then someone pushed me out of the way and went over to Tory.

"Are you ok? What happened? I heard a scream and I knew it was yours." Tony said, looking worried.

Tory chuckled. "I'm fine bro. Jack here accidentally hit me."

"I promise it was an accident." I quickly explained before Tony could kill me.

Tony gave me a deadly look before turning to his sister. "Let's get you to the nurses office and get you checked up."

"Jack, I think you should go or else you'll be late for class." Tory said.

"Oh shoot. You're right. I'm so sorry Tory." I said. "Hope you feel better." I was already running away.

"But-" Tony started to protest but Tory cut him off.

"His record." was all she said and he nodded.

I grabbed the books I needed from my locker and raced to my class. I got in just before the teacher.

That was a close one.

"Have you guys seen Tory and Tony?" I asked Trent and Tracey.

Tracey shrugged. "I think they left."

"Left? Left where?" I asked.

"Hospital. Tory wasn't feeling good. We don't know what happened but it has something to do with her stomach." Trent explained.

Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Did I really hurt her that much? Is it serious? Will she need surgery or something? Or a kidney transplant? Oh my gosh, will she die?

"Why does Jackson look like he's about to have a heart attack?" someone said.

I turned around and found Tory giving me a worried look.

I let out a breath and gave her a bone crushing bear hug.

"I'm so glad your ok." I said.

"Dude it didn't even hurt." she said, laughing.

"But you had to go to hospital so it must have hurt." I replied.

"Hospital? I didn't go to the hospital." Tory said.

"Who told you that?" Tony asked.

I slowly turned around and stared daggers at Tracey and Trent who were smiling.

"What? You hurt our sister then ditched. A little pay back." Trent said.

I sighed. "Whatever."

"Yo Jack, over here." I heard Martin call.

I looked his way and sighed. We still haven't talked since our little argument.

"I'll catch you guys later. If you see the rest of the Fam, send them my greetings." I said and left without waiting for a reply.

I walked over to Martin and sat down.

"I'm sorry man. I know how important this is to you and I know that was really messed up of me." Martin apologized.

I smiled. "It's fine bro."

"Buddies?"

"For life." I said giving him a fist bump.

"Ohhhh are my two little boys making up." Mavis teased, taking a seat next to me.

I playfully punched her shoulder. "Where have you been?"

"Avoiding dorks." she replied, looking at Martin with a fake sweet smile.

Martin gave her a deadly glare. "Why are you always picking on me?"

"Cause your the third wheel."

I saw Martin clench his jaws. Mavis really should stop saying that to him.

I decided to change the subject. "So guys, what are you planning to do this weekend?"

"We should really go to Zacks party." Martin said.

"Pass." I replied.

"Oh come on Jacky. Live a little." Mavis said

"Mavis, you know I can't risk it."

"Fine whatever. Be like that then." Mavis said.

"Come on, Mavis. Don't be like that." I said.

"Just forget it."

Just then Lisa and Linda walked up to us. "Hey Jack, can we talk for a sec?" Lisa asked.

I got up and followed them. "What's up, guys?"

"Can you please take James and Trent to Mc Donald's later?" Linda asked me

"Why can't you do it?" I asked.

"We have plans. We asked everyone but they all are all busy. You're the last person." Lisa replied.

I felt kind of hurt that they would ask me last but I couldn't blame them.

"Ugh fine." I said.

"Yay. Thanks." Linda said giving me a kiss on the cheek.

"Eww gross." I said, wiping my cheeks.

Lisa rolled her eyes. "Later." And with that they left.

"What was that about?" Martin asked as I sat down.

"They just wanted to ask me if I could take James and Trent out later."

"Hey Jack, wanna play soccer?" Tony said, walking up to me with Tory. Those two were inseparable.

"Sure. I'll kick your butt." I replied, getting up.

"Usual teams." Tory declared.

"Bring it." I replied. But before I could leave, Mavis grabbed my hand.

"But I wanted your help with something." she said, giving me puppy dog eyes.

"With what?"

"Homework. I don't understand it."

"Oh alright then." I looked at Tony and Tori who were standing there waiting for me. "Maybe next time."

"Come on? You promised you would play!" Tory whined.

"When?" I questioned

"Last week. You ditched us for your friends but promised you'd play next time." Tony said.

"Well, I'm sorry. But I need to help Mavis. Another time."

"I'm so sick and tired of this. You're always bailing on us!" Tory exclaimed.

"What?! No I'm not." I said feeling angry.

"Yes, you are. We're always there for you but we can never count on you to be there for us. Well next time, don't count on us." Tony yelled and walked away, closely followed by his twin.

"Now class, open your books to page 120 and do the exercise work." the biology teacher said.

I opened my text book and started doing my work when Tony and Tory raced in to class, late.

"Oh Miss and Mister Stanley. How nice of you two to show up." our teacher said.

"Nice to be here." Tony replied. Tory elbowed him.

"Sorry we're late, won't happen again." Tory said.

"It better not. Take a seat"

They walked towards the only two available seats which unfortunately happened to be on either side of me.

Tory sat to my left and Tony to my right.

"Are you guys still mad at me?" I whispered.

They both ignored me.

"Look I'm sorry but I had to help Mavis with her study."

"Oh really. Tell me Jackson, did you study after we left?" Tory asked.

I didn't answer because the truth was that we didn't. I asked her what part she didn't understand but she just said that it was fine and she'd figure it out on her own.

"I knew it. I bet she lied." Tony whispered.

"Tory, Tony, Jackson. Do you have something to share with the class?" Our teacher asked.

"No ma'am. Sorry." I quickly replied.

The teacher went back to the lesson.

"She didn't lie. Mavis wouldn't" I defended my friend.

"Of course she did!" Tory replied.

"Just because your jealous of my friendship doesn't mean you can insult my friends." I demanded.

As soon as I said it, I regretted it. I saw the hurt look on their face and felt guilty.

"Guys I'm-" I got cut off by the teacher.

"Jackson, detention."

"What?! Why?" I asked, shocked.

"Because you're the one talking."

I sighed, frustrated. I was about to get up when I heard Tory sigh.

"It wasn't Jackson, ma'am. It was me." Tory said.

"And me." Tony continued.

I looked at them, shocked. Their taking the blame for me after everything.

"I wanted to talk to my twin but Jackson is sitting between us so it looked like it was him that was talking." Tony lied.

"Don't give him detention." Tory went on.

"Well ok then. Both of you detention after school. Jackson, I'm sorry for accusing you."

"I-I" I didn't know what to say.

"Take your seat and go back to work."

I sat down and looked at my cousins. I mouthed thank you.

They both ignored me.

And I felt horrible.

I learnt a lesson that day. Even though I try my best to stay out of trouble, sometime I do get in trouble. But because of my family, I was safe and it didn't go on my record.

I could count on them and truthfully, I always did. But they were right about one thing. They couldn't count on me.

Even after what I said and did, they took the fall for me. The fact that Lisa and Linda asked me to take James and Trent out after asking everyone else was prove that they couldn't count on me.

And I have to change that because one day people will get tired of you bailing on them and they will give up.

I won't let that happen.

(A/N). Hi everyone! So I'm guessing there might be a confusion with the names and who is who so let me make it simple for y'all.
The Ts, (Tracey, Tory, Tony, Trent) are the cousins.

Then the Js (Joey, Jackson, James) are the brothers and their sisters are the Ls (Lisa and Linda)

The Ms are the friends (Martin and Mavis)

Anyways, I know nothing interesting is happening but it's only the second chapter so bare with me. Third chapter will be a little more.....interesting😏😉😋
