Taste of Adventure

The next morning I was woken up by the Zora at the front desk. I yawned and stretched before putting my shoes back on and heading outside. I saw Eva standing next to the building. I looked around and saw Link walking around the stands. I walked down the stairs and pat Eva. She neighed and set her head on my shoulder. I smiled.

"She seems to be doing better." Link said from behind me.

"Yeah." I turned around and saw he had some dishes in his hands.

"Here." He handed me one. "You must be hungry." Is he kidding. I can't take this from him, not after all he's done.

"No, I'm fine." I kindly declined.

"Please, I don't want this to go to waste." I hesitated but took the plate and ate the food.

"Thanks." I said. He was honestly too kind.

2 weeks later

Eva had fully healed and was even running now. It was all thanks to Link. I decided today was the last day I'd spend in Terry Town. I wanted to travel. Link told me stories of all the places he'd been, they sounded amazing. I wanted to experience them as well, except I'm no good in combat so I'd be screwed yet again if I ran into trouble.

"Where do you plan on going first?" Link asked. I shrugged.

"Wherever the road takes us." I pat Eva. "I've heard about Fort Hateno, I'd like to visit there."

"I was actually about to head that way as well."

"Really?" I asked curiously. "Why?"

"I have a house in Hateno Village, plus I promised this kid I'd show him something once I got ahold of it." He owns a house? I'm 18! He can't be much older than me and he already owns a house. Yikes, the most expensive thing I own is Eva. "Why don't we go together? I'd be worried just letting you run off."

"Why not?" I hopped onto Eva and he got onto Epona. We began walking towards the exit of the town. I was excited to finally leave Akkala, I've spent my entire life here I wanted change. We crossed the bridge where we first met.

As we walked along the trail I took in all the scenery below. Leaving Akkala felt so satisfying, I felt free. I knew Hateno Fort was far from here but I didn't care. I was finally leaving and I wasn't going back. It felt even better to be traveling with someone else. Link is such a great guy. I'm glad I met him.

"We might not make it before night fall." Link said. "I know there's a stable nearby we can stay at for the night."

"Alright." I looked at him and gave him a nod.

We sped up the pace of our horses and trotted down the dirt path. Once we were off the mountain we slowed down and I really got to look around. We were by a river that had beautiful crystal clear water. I was smiling uncontrollably. I looked over the river and saw a rackety looking structure. "What's that?" I don't think anyone could or would live there.

"It's this place where monsters hang out." Link said. Guess I won't be going that way. We followed the river until we reached a stable. There were some other travelers sitting at some tables and a few kids running around chasing bugs. We got off our horses and tied them to the fence. I fed Eva a few apples I had in my bag and sat down at an empty table. Link went off to do something so I took the time to look around. I could see Hyrule Castle off in the distance. After the defeat of Ganon people started reconstructing the town. Across the river were some deer prancing around in the grass.

I was lost in thought until a plate was set in front of me. I looked down and saw some rice and meat. Link sat down in front of me. "Eat up." I couldn't believe how nice this dude is. I had never met anyone as kind as him.

"Thanks." We ate and talked for a while until we finished the food. It was actually really good. Link took the plates and told me to untie the horses so I did. Once he got back we were back on our way to the next stable.

Link said we would pass two more stables before reaching the one we'd stay at. We were following the river and I was taking in the scenery. I was overjoyed. Seeing all this new scenery was overwhelming. We crossed a few old wooden bridges and continued on the path. I saw a few ruins on the way. It was sad knowing people lived there at one point and had to leave everything behind. I hoped that they found safety.

"What made you want to travel?" Link asked. I glanced over at him then pet Eva.

I shrugged. "I just wanted to see the world."

"That's understandable." He smiled. I couldn't help but smile back.

We began approaching a stone bridge that led to two large mountains. "On the other side is Dueling Peaks Stable, that's where we'll be staying." He said. We walked up the bridge and ran into a man walking along. He greeted us and continued walking off. I looked to the left and saw a large metal object. It had a few long tube like legs that stuck out from the ground.

I had heard about things that fit that description from travelers that came to my stable. "Is that a guardian?" I pointed to the metal monster. Had heard they were dangerous.

"Yup, it's a dead one. But not all of the ones that look like that are dead." Interesting. I thought. I heard stories that they turned against the people when The Great Calamity hit. I looked up at the sky and saw the sun had begun setting.

We continued off the bridge and through the two large mountains. I looked up to the peaks, I felt intimidated by the large structures. Once we reached the other end we trotted along another wooden bridge and reached the stable. The sun had gone down and the sky was now dark. We got off our horses and tied them to a fence behind the stable. I pat Eva before heading inside. I sat down at a table inside while Link went to the counter. I looked around and saw a traveling merchant sitting on the floor. He had a large rhino beetle shaped bag on his bag along with a flag that had his face on it. I took my bag off and sat it down next to me feeling relieved to have the heavy thing off me. Link walked over to me and stopped in front of me.

"I paid for us to stay the night." He said.

"Us? Why'd you pay for me?" I asked. I don't like people paying for me. "Link seriously I-" He cut me off.

"It's fine. Just get some rest." He walked off to a bed and landed face first on it. I grabbed my bag and set it down next to the wall near me. I lied down at the bed and looked over at him. "Goodnight (Y/n)." He mumbled into the bed.

"Goodnight Link." I said. I slid my shoes off and covered myself in the blanket. I then fell asleep.

Not too long later I was woken up by a strange feeling of worry. I squinted my eyes and saw that Link was still in a deep sleep. I got quietly and put my shoes on. I wasn't too tired so I walked out of the stable and walked back go where Eva and Epona were. I looked around and saw some goats grazing and sleeping in a fenced area. But something caught my attention. It was a kid running off into the field. It was late for a kid to be wandering off alone. No one was around to help so I decided to go after them myself.

I ran up the hill and saw dozens of dead guardians. I got such an eerie feeling from the metal graveyard. But I shook it off to look for the kid. "Hey! Kid!" I whisper shouted. Link told me monsters roamed this area which scared me. I don't know much about combat so I'd be screwed if anything saw me. I continued looking around the field of guardians hoping to find the kid but I couldn't find anything. So I decided to head back. Maybe they did as well.

Then I heard that dreadful squeal that was so familiar to me. I looked to my right and saw two red bokoblins headed my way. "Shit."I quietly said. I tried heading hack to the stable but I was lost among the guardians. So I ran around aimlessly trying to find something that I could use as a weapon. My heart pounded as I ran away as fast as I could away from the terrible creatures. I should've just stayed in the stable. I though to myself. I looked back again and saw they were getting closer. Each had wooden bats as weapons. Tears began filling my eyes, I was too far from the stable for anyone to hear me scream. I looked forward again and ran directly into a guardians leg, I tripped over it and rolled into a large puddle. I groaned in pain and grabbed my leg. I looked ahead and saw some swords sticking out of the ground. I wasn't sure why or how they got there but they were my only defense. I got up and limped as fast as I could over to the swords. I grabbed the handle and tried pulling it out of the ground but damn was it stuck. Yet I still kept pulling. The two bokoblins were getting closer. I gave it one last pull and the sword came out. I tried to pick it up like a normal sword but it was too heavy so I held it like I would a bat. One of the monsters leaped towards me. I yelled as I swung it at the monster. The sword sliced its stomach open causing blood to be splattered onto me as it fell to the ground. I went to swing the sword again before the other monster reached me but to no success. I got it up to my stomach before the monster leaped on me. The sword pierced right through the red creature killing it almost instantly. It's blood spilled all over my clothes as it lied on top of me. I groaned and pushed the heavy creature off of me. I sat up and looked at what I had done. I looked at the two corpses and felt sick. I had never killed anything, let alone seen a corpse. The gruesome scene was too overwhelming for me. I crawled onto my knees and hands and threw up. The smell of the monsters stomach acid and blood was revolting and sickening. I gasped for air as I wiped my mouth and got up. I walked over to the monster that had the sword sticking out of it. I grabbed the handle and held the monster down with my foot as I pulled out the sword. Might as well just keep it after pulling it out of the ground. I knew that next to the stable there was a pond I could clean myself off at.

I began walking back to the stable and dragged the sword on the floor with me until I reached the stable. I set the sword down next to Eva and walked over to the pond. There was a strange glowing building in the middle of the pond, I could use it to hide myself. I walked into the pond and stood behind the building. I was about knee depth in. I looked around to make sure no one was around, once I was sure no one was looking I took my shirt off and placed it in the water to try and wash off the blood. I looked down at the water to see a stain of blood in the water. I sighed and rinsed my face. I looked down at the water and saw Link walking over to me. I squealed and covered myself with my shirt.

"Oh je- sorry." He quickly turned around. "What are you doing out here?" He asked. I ignored him and instead rinsed off my shirt and put it back on.

"You can turn around." I said. My face was red with embarrassment.

"Is that blood?" He pointed at my shirt that was still stained.

"Yeah." I mumbled.

"Is it your blood?"

"No." I answered.

"What happened?" He asked confused.

"I got up to check on the horses and saw this kid running off to the field. So I went to get him. And I bumped into some trouble. Long story shirt I killed some monsters and now I feel sick." I then remembered the horrific scene. I wanted to forget it, but I couldn't. The two monsters bleeding out with the awful smell of stomach acid and blood. I turned around and puked once again. Link rubbed my back and I wiped my mouth.

"Let's go back to the stable so you can rest up." I looked up at him and nodded. We walked back to the stable and I lied back down on the bed. He sat at the edge of the bed and looked to the other side of the stable. "Now you got a real taste of what it's like. Not all fun and games." I chuckled.

"I knew that already." I turned to my side.

"Try and sleep a bit, we leave in a few hours." Link got up from the bed.

"Will do." I yawned. Not long after that I fell asleep.
