Meeting

I was taking in the fresh woodland air. I was leaving Akkala when I ran into a small town and decided to spend the night there with my horse Eva. We were trotting along the dirt path taking in the beautiful scenery. The autumn trees were seen scattered on the hills, the cool air blew ever so often. Traveling with Eva around Akkala was something I loved doing, except when we ran into monsters. I saw a bridge up ahead and pat Eva's neck.
"Alright girl, we're leaving for real this time." I told her.

That's when I heard the familiar squeal of a Bokoblin. I looked to my right to see two of the red piglike creatures riding wild horses coming right at me. I sped up Eva's pace and she started sprinting. They started shooting arrows at us and missed almost every time. I tried shooting arrows at them but in my nervous state I dropped my bow and it was trampled by the two horses after me. "Fuck." I mumbled. Eva neighed and I looked back to see they got her back leg with an arrow. "Keep going girl." I pat her neck again encouraging her to keep going. She was running top speed and lost her balance causing her to trip and the both of us tumbled. She rolled a few times with me on her back getting crushed under her weight. Once we stopped she laid on the floor distressed. I looked back to see the two creatures getting closer continuing to shoot arrows at us. "Eva come on!" I pulled on her bridle but she wouldn't budge. I couldn't just leave her here, but if I wanted to live I would have to. "I'll get help." I looked down at my black horse and kissed her forehead. I got up and started running over the bridge hoping another traveler was nearby. My heart was racing as my adrenaline started kicking in. I knew eventually the two monsters would catch up to me no matter how fast I ran. I could hear the arrows hitting right behind my feet and flying past my face. I felt like I was running for so long but thats when I saw it. Someone up ahead. I waved my arms hoping they'd see me. "HELP!!" I cried out. I'm sure they saw me because they came running on their horse straight towards me. Once they got closer I could see a boy about my age, he was on a beautiful chocolate brown horse with a white mane and white legs. The boy took out a bow and shot the two monsters and just like that they were dead. He circled back to me and smiled.

"Are you ok?" He asked. I nodded.

"Thank you so much." I said out of breath. My heart was still pounding from being chased.

"Are you out here alone?" The blond boy asked. He was wearing a bright blue tunic and some regular tan trousers. I shook my head.

"My horse collapsed while we were being chased." I didn't want to leave Eva the way I did. She was my companion and basically my only friend. I felt awful.

"I'll take you back to your horse." He said. "This is a dangerous area and it's getting late." I smiled again.

"Thank you." I repeated. He held his hand out for me to grab. I did so and got onto his horse. "I never got your name." I said.

"I'm Link. And you are..?"

"(Y/n)." I said. His name sounded awfully familiar.

"That's a nice name." He had a kind tone of voice. It was calming.

"Thanks." When we got back to Eva I hopped off the horse and pat her neck. "Hey girly." I softly said. She tried to get up but collapsed. I looked at her leg and saw she had an arrow sticking out of it. I began to worry she might not make it. I heard footsteps behind me.

"This looks bad." He said. I nodded and fought back tears. I can't lose Eva she's my best friend and travel buddy. "How about I help you get to Terry Town. It's up ahead."

"No, you've already done so much." He chuckled.

"Get up I'll take you. It's getting dark, there's wolves in this area and they'll be attracted to the horse. Then what will you do." He walked over to Eva and pat her stomach. "Help me get her up." He said. I got up and it took all our strength to get Eva up. He pushed her side and I pulled her saddle. We were able to get her up and luckily she stayed up. He told me to get on his horse while he led Eva to our destination.

I was so glad to see Eva was walking, although she limped she seemed to be doing fine which gave me hope that she'd get better. We walked slowly so she wouldn't get more hurt than she already was.

Night soon came and we could hear wolves howling at the full moon. I'm glad he was there when he was, if he wasn't Eva and I would probably be in those monsters stomaches.

"Where are you from?" He asked.

"I grew up in a stable up on the mountain." I pointed to a large hill.

"Have you been anywhere outside Akkala?" He asked. I shook my head.

"I want to, traveling around here is fun but it gets boring."

"I could never get bored here!" He looked around. I scoffed. "Seriously, all the animals and mountains to climb. It's great." Up ahead we could see the town lights. I was in this town earlier but only to sleep. We stopped next to a building and I hopped off his horse. Eva looked over at me and I hugged her neck.

"You should get some rest." He pointed to the building. "There's an Inn, I'll bandage her up." He said.

"Wh- no! I can do it! You've done too much for us I honestly don't know how I can repay you." I looked at him.

"No need. Helping people out is my thing."

"I'll bandage her up." I said. He stepped away and gave me a strange look.

"Ok (y/n), what do you do first?" He crossed his arms and raised his eyebrow. I froze. I wasn't sure, the arrow was still in her leg. If I took it out she could bleed out. "Exactly." He grabbed his bag and took some items out.

I watched him as he carefully took the arrow out and cleaned the wound. He sewed the wound before wrapping her leg in bandages. I wanted to learn how to do that, he won't always be around to help.

"Thanks again, for everything." I said quietly. It was very kind of him to do everything he did. He saved me and my horse.

"I'm not leaving yet." He said. "The bandages need to be switched out and the wound should be cleaned. I don't think you know how to do that either. No offense."

"None taken." I frowned. But again he was right. I sighed and sat down next to Eva who was on her side. I stroked her mane. I began getting tired. After today's events all I wanted to do was sleep. I checked my pocket and saw I had enough to spend another night here. I got up and yawned. Link looked over at me.

"Get some rest." He said.

"Will do." I walked to the door and inside the Inn. There was a Zora at the front desk. I gave them enough for one night and made my way over to a bed. I took my shoes off and lied down on the bed. I faced the wall so the light from the desk wouldn't bother me. I don't remember when I fell asleep, I just remember having calm and peaceful slumber.

Hello everyone. It's me after many years. I have decided to edit this story. I wrote it when I was like 15-16?,(I'm now 22). And I saw it still gets interaction so here I am many years later. I'm happy a lot of you are still enjoying this story. So after taking some creative writing classes in college, I wanted to do this story some justice. Updates might not be consistent cause I am in school but I will be trying to edit this story. The plot might change and the pacing will definitely change. So sorry if you enjoyed it, (I can upload an OG version if ya'll want). But yeah, hope you are all doing well and enjoy!
