Reviewing TOHO Eurobeat Vol. 6 ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View
Oh god, Volume 18's already out?
Let's return with the TOHO eurobeat reviews! Volumes 1-5 are in the first Touhou Stuff book.

T.E.B. / 越田Rute隆人: I like the intro, it does give off the fact that you can't fool Eiki, she's the mitochondria of the powerhouse. The brass riff sounds like Speedy Night, but faster and more catchier. Overall, it's not bad, it just doesn't suit me to be honest.
Song based off Shiki Eiki's theme.

summer pop cider -TEB "Forsaken" Remix- / Aki: Holy- that buildup to that brass riff!!! That's awesome! The way the vocals are used sounds real eurobeat like the most. Use it in an Initial D scene and fans would never notice that it's an inferior eurobeat remix.
How long has it been since I did para para?
Song based off Medicine and Yuuka's themes.

恋のasterisk / Cocoa: I actually like this one. Similar vibes to an Italo Disco and Faithful Heart. The intro's iffy because it sounds like some intro theme for an anime, but that's also a good thing because the anime would be Initial D (like how you start the car or something). Eurobeat songs are not always about speeding up to the max so you make a song about overdrive, it's also about the leisure of popping it in your car and casually driving it through the night. And this song captures it perfectly!
I slightly prefer slow sounding eurobeat songs because I can drive like a normal person and not like a Fujiwara.
Song based off Tewi and Prismriver Sisters' themes.

flower tartan / Hanathan: What I'm surprised were the songs chosen for this piece. It definitely takes a creative approach and uses it to the max. Only problem; it doesn't suit me well. Sure it's creative but, it feels like it needs more oomph, or a key change. But it's still a great song.
Just saying, I'm 4/5 ignoring the lyrics, which is probably a bad thing to do.
Song based off Pre-Battle and Pre-Boss themes.

Cool Your Divinity / Nagisa: I'm honestly mixed with this. I'm not very fond with Cirno eurobeat remixes but it's a bit neutralized with a slight Reisen theme. Only problem: there's not a lot of Reisen in it. Just.... I can't think of anything to say to this song but it's meh.
Song based off Cirno and Reisen's themes.

Call of Truth / 越田Rute隆人: Feels boring in the beginning. I don't know why. But it gets better when Rute sings Mystia's part. It feels good. Aya's part is good too. Song is good and not great because it's one of those decent tracks you find in some obscure Super Eurobeat album that really sucks. As I mentioned, Slow moving eurobeat tracks are my favorite because they allow me to drive casually. Fast moving ones better have a good impression with heavy hitting brass. This one doesn't for me.
Song based off Mystia and Aya's themes.

(Sorry if there's no vid for this, Youtube is strict with song uploads you know)
Tell me / Akane: Hmm.... I like it. Vocals are decent, Para Para likable, and it seems it's only for para para. Maybe a driving scene too. It's a soft, soothing song, but I think it puts too much emphasis on the soothing part; examples include chorus and brass riff.
Song based off opening and credits themes.

Energy Flight / Rute x Aki: The beginning part is a great lead up. It gets ready for a great street race to happen. But to me, the song feels a bit overused. The brass are really over the top with this one, and it drowns out the quality of this.
Honestly I'm not interested in this one.
Song based off Reimu and Marisa's theme

Flowering Fantasia / Axel K.: I actually like that weird dubstep thingy. It's also Axel K's return to Toho Eurobeat, and his return never bores the crap outta me! The key signature and brass definitely fits the theme of street racing, along with the vocals. And like Japanese people speaking English artists, I still don't understand 3/4 of what he's saying, which I guess that's a good thing.
Anyways, it's great.
Song based off Sakuya and Youmu's themes.

THE END / T. Stebbins: I originally hated this song mainly due to the beginning. It sounds like something from guitar hero or something. But when the brass riffs change it changed my opinion over this song. The vocals before the chorus is great, but it feels like the chorus vocals can be better. I don't know how though.
Song based off Ending theme.
Rating: 8/10
Three songs I would listen to everyday:
asterisk
Summer pop cider (TEB remix)
Flowering Fantasia
Three songs that would never listen to:
T.E.B.
Cool Your Divinity
Call of Truth
Overall Score: 7/10
To be honest, I only touch a couple songs from this volume. everything else are ignored. Bu tthat doesn't mean that the rest of songs are completely horrible. It's only my opinion, and an opinion that'll stay through the rest of time. Personally, Volume 6 is a volume for new and inexperienced eurobeat listeners who can't tell the difference between what's good and bad.
I've been listening to too much A-Beat-C and knowing how a Eurobeat song works. You just need the right emotion to it.
Next we'll be looking at an album based off my favorite Touhou game: Mountain of Faith.
