Ten
Goodbye, hello
"Thank you for coming." An officer smiles at another guest entering the cemetery.
The guest walks closer to the chairs set up in front of the graves. She is taken back by the sight before her.
It is beautiful yet haunting. The section of land is decorated in hundreds of white flowers
Guests have brought flowers and gifts of their own to give to the departed.
The other guests take turn throwing dirt inside with the coffin.
Flowers are thrown inside along with tears of those who loved the deceased.
The ceremony comes to a close. Guests begin to clear out and go back home to their families.
Grave diggers walk over and begin shoveling dirt in to the holes in the ground.
A woman stands by and watches the dirt fill the first grave. She reads the engraving.
Brian Williams
Son
1994-2017
Caring, Loving, And Sweet
She hates reading her son's name on the tombstone. He was so young. He was taken away from her too early.
She never thought she would see this sight. She always thought he would be the one with the burden of burying her, not the other way around.
She doesn't think this is fair. She knows his last few days were troubled but she will never know the true story.
She knows he kidnapped Faith but she will never know why. Deep down, she knows there is more to the story. She knows her son is a good kid. She knows there had to have been more to the story than the officers told her.
She walks towards the other graves and pauses on two in particular graves.
Faith Blackburn
1993-2017
Devoted Daughter
David Blackburn
1965-2017
Loving Husband And Father
The funerals were all held together as one large service. There was a lot of people who cared about them and a lot of crying.
The three graves are relatively close to each other. Brian's mother wanted it that way. She wanted her son to be close to his girlfriend but not too close that it would disrespect Faith and her family.
The Blackburns are buried next to Amanda Blackburn, amazing mother and wife.
Amanda, David, and Faith all suffered sudden deaths. They have all perished in such an untimely manner. They will all be missed.
And what happened to Calum you ask? Let me tell you exactly what happened to him.
On the day Faith died, Calum sat on top of her grave patiently waiting for police to find them.
You remember, don't you?
When they finally came, dozens of officers had their guns pointed at Calum. He loved the attention.
They warned him to put his gun down.
He didn't.
Calum lifted the gun to his head and shot himself at the same time two other officers shot him.
They moved quickly, knowing that if Faith was still alive, she didn't have long.
The dug her out and quickly came to the undeniable conclusion that she was dead.
An officer, one who knew Faith better than all the rest of the officers, kicked Calum's body all the way over to the grave he dug for Faith.
He kicked Calum's body inside and officers took turns shooting him.
It was totally inappropriate and not professional at all of them to do but they were mourning Faith's death.
They all knew Faith. She came to the station a lot as a kid. Some of them babysat her when she was younger if her dad had a long shift.
They all cared for Faith. They all loved her.
And Calum took her from them. Calum took Faith from her father too. They wanted to make him pay. It didn't matter that they were shooting a dead body. It only mattered that they were getting some, whatever they could get, justice for their girl.
But no amount of abuse to his corpse would make them feel better.
They buried him up In the grave intended for Faith and continued on with what needed to be done.
Faith was brought to a morgue where her body was prepared for a funeral. It was then that some officers went to her house and some went to the station.
The officers who went back to the station told their boss the story of what happened, excluding some major details that could seriously jeopardize their career.
They told her he had killed himself long before they got there. They said they covered his body up with some dirt and then proceeded.
Their boss seemed satisfied with this. She knew they weren't telling the truth. He killed someone they loved. She knew they wouldn't be that courteous to Calum. But she wasn't going to press the issue. She knew they were mourning.
Those who went to Faith's house were met with a gruesome scene. They barely got inside before they saw the vomit on the floor. They rushed inside and found their friend David unconscious in a pool of his own vomit.
But what happened to Faith's father?
He died of course. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at the hospital he was rushed to following the discovery.
Just before his death, David rose out of his chair and walked in to the kitchen, experiencing a sinking feeling in his stomach which he thought was hunger.
It turned out to be a father's intuition. He knew Faith was dead before anyone even had to tell him.
He died of a stroke, similar to the fate his dear wife met.
It's a tragic story really. None of them deserved to die, except maybe Calum.
But the story does have a hidden happy ending after all.
Because at long last, Faith's whole family is back together and can never be taken away from each other ever again.
