1| Make Sure The Couple Cancels The Date

⚡💧🐲💧⚡

Nya hummed one of her favourite songs as she applied blush to her cheeks, other make-up articles littering her vanity. She smiled at her reflection in the mirror, turning her head from side to side to inspect her work, her ponytail swinging with the movement.

She adjusted her silver bracelet with little moon-shaped charms adorning it. It was a present from Jay for her birthday that passed recently. She had a suspicion that her boyfriend had got it out from Kai that the water master loved anything that featured a moon.

She didn't mind when Jay would go to Kai for every single detail on her. She actually encouraged it by saying, "Kai knows about that," or "Why don't you ask Kai?" instead of revealing anything herself.

If everything went smoothly and she and Jay did end up getting married, she would want Kai and Jay to have a good brother-in-law relationship. Even little steps counted as progress, right?

Right now, she just wondered what her date with Jay was going to be like. Nice? Good? Romantic? A total flop?! Nya shuddered at the thought of anything going wrong in their rare moments alone without the fate of the world hanging over their shoulders.

Positive thoughts, Nya. Positive thoughts.

With a fresh, new resolve, the ravenette twirled around, the frills on her teal blue dress flowing and trailing along. Nothing was going to ruin this date. Not even their ninja duties.

However, the Master of Water had spoken too soon. Just then, a knock sounded on her bedroom door and Nya, hoping it was Jay, giggled and answered, "Enter!"

Her face fell in disappointment as Kai's worried (and unwelcomed) face poked in from around the door. Jumping to the conclusion, Nya assumed he was here to make her change her mind about the date or -if he failed at that- tell her to be safe no matter what.

"Hey, sis," he muttered, stepping in and softly closing the door behind him. He smiled at how pretty his sister looked but it quickly vanished as he remembered what he was here for.

Nya raised a perfectly arched eyebrow at her brother, a scowl on her face. "Don't hey sis me," she snapped to which Kai winced. "Every time you show your face when I'm getting ready for a date, you jinx it!"

The Master of Fire cringed for this was the very reason he had come to talk to her. He sighed as he walked over to his little sister and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Nya, I'm a horrible brother and I know how important this date is to you but I need your help."

Nya pushed him away, glaring at him all the while. "No! Ask for my help after my date." She folded her arms and dared Kai to say anything that might want to make her yell at him non-stop. "You should go get ready for your date as well," she added, her eyes narrowed to slits. "Skylor's probably waiting for you."

"Exactly!" Kai suddenly stated, finding hope now that he knew his sister had acknowledged his own arrangements with the redhead. "I have to go on this date with her without interruptions because if I don't, Sky's going to break up with me!"

Nya rolled her eyes at her brother's dramatic acting. "What did you now?" she asked, unammused.

Kai smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head as he looked everywhere but at Nya. "I may not have been spending as much time with her as I promised to so I arranged this special date to compensate for my . . . er, tardiness."

Nya was sure her brain cells were face-palming and her hand moved to do the same action. "You're hopeless, really," she muttered. "I don't know why Skylor even puts up with you. Do the poor girl a favour and break up."

"You're not helping!"

The Master of Water sighed in defeat, twisting around to check the time on her clock. She still had a few minutes before Jay arrived to take her. Might as well listen to Kai's proposition. "What do you want?" she asked in a non-comforting tone.

Kai inhaled, pressing his lips in a thin line before blurting it all out. "Pixal, Zane and Master Wu are out of town for some work and won't be back till late at night, Cole is gone to have some bonding time with his dad and I have a very important appointment with Skylor that I cannot cancel, so I need you and Jay to postpone your date and take care of Lloyd."

After this, Kai let out a relieved sigh as if he had finally eased himself of a burden he had been forced to carry for a long time.

Nya, however, looked fit to give rise to a colossal tsunami in order to wash Kai out of existence.

"WHAT?!" she shrieked and Kai had to cover his ears and stumble back a little. The Master of Fire had always believed that his little sister would make an excellent fire elemental since she had a tendency to burst just like him. And sometimes that burst would be stronger and more potent than Kai's – like now.

"How dare you even ask such a thing of me?!" Nya screamed, her eyes shooting - as one could say - lava topped daggers. She took a menacing step towards her brother who had his hands held up in surrender.

"Please, Nya!" Kai pleaded, running over to the bed in the corner as the girl in question charged at him with her sandal. "Just this one time!"

The brunet climbed onto the bed, dashing across it to escape from the other side just as his sister approached closer. Seeing her brother making a run for it from the opposite side, Nya changed her route to block his path resulting in Kai getting back on the bed once more.

Nya decided to hurl the sandal at him anyway. The ravenette raised the shoe in the air threateningly. Kai's voice came out in a girlish scream as he shielded himself for the impact. But it never came. He slowly lowered his arms to see what his sister was doing.

He shouldn't have, though.

Just as his face was exposed to the open, the sandal flew over the bed and smacked Kai on his nose. A loud groan erupted from the injured teen as he covered his face.

"Serves you right!" Nya announced, slowing her rapid breathing and snatching back the violated sandal from off the mattress. She mimicked throwing it at Kai once more to warn him which caused the red ninja to flinch.

"Sis, please, I really need your help! Lloyd's sick!" Kai pouted imploringly, ignoring the fire reigniting in Nya's eyes. However, she sighed in defeat as she took in the now red mark on Kai's nose courtesy of the sandal.

"See, I'm not even mad at you for throwing your slipper at me," Kai added to highlight that he really did need her help despite her hurling random objects at him.

"It's a sandal."

"Yeah, sandal. Whatever."

Nya huffed and threw her hands in the air as she walked away from the bed and towards her cabin's porthole. She gazed out at the still blue sky that was layered over with fleecy clouds at some places.

The Destiny's Bounty was hovering over a secluded corner of Ninjago City Park at the moment, its green landscape washed with the afternoon sun and almost visible from the porthole Nya was looking through. The girl sighed. It was such a beautiful day outside, perfect for a date or maybe even a simple walk in the park below.

Did she really want to stay inside a flying ship, taking care of her leader suffering from fever and flu and all those other icky diseases? Of course not.

"Lloyd can take care of himself," she said, pushing herself away from the porthole and standing with her back to it instead. "He's a big boy now."

"Of course he's a big boy," Kai nodded, finally descending from the bed and approaching his sister. "I mean is it that hard to fight a common cold? But when it comes to fighting people, he won't stand a chance!"

Nya scrunched up her nose at the last statement, her dark eyebrows knitting together. "Why would Lloyd just randomly start fighting people in his sickness?" she mumbled questioningly, not expecting to hear an answer.

But she did.

"Two words," Kai replied, holding up the respective number of fingers as he looked at Nya. "Bad guys."

"Oh," Nya whispered while subtly nodding her head, not sure why bad guys might try to break into the Bounty.

"Someone has to be here to make sure that no villain tries to kidnap or hurt Lloyd while he's in his weakened physical state," Kai added like a commander ordering his troop to protect the base against enemies.

"But Kai–"

"Please, please, please!"

Nya ignored her brother's pleading voice and put on her own innocent face that had always compelled Kai to swing in her favour. But she assumed that Skylor and Lloyd must've cursed him with some evil magic since he didn't even acknowledge her puppy eyes.

Kai reached for her hands and brought them close to his chest, looking imploringly into her black orbs. "Do this for me and I'll personally arrange a spectacular date for you and Jay afterwards."

Nya raised an eyebrow dubiously at her brother, not believing him in the slightest. This was responded to by Kai with a usual "I promise you" which led Nya to finally give in.

"Fine," she sighed, her gaze dropping down to her feet, one of which was bare since the sandal was off. "I'll do it."

Kai cheered, punching the air before  wrapping his arms around Nya's waist. He picked her up and spun her around, eliciting a giggle from the ravenette. Kai pressed her close to his chest for a few seconds before putting her down again.

"Thank you so much, sis!" the brunet drew out, seemingly more happy about the outcome than one would expect. He gave Nya a push towards the door of her quarter. "Now, go tell Jay. I'm sure he'll understand."

Nya rolled her eyes as she opened the door, stopping to look back at Kai. "Of course he will. Otherwise you'll scare him with threats."

"Pfttt! I don't do that," Kai responded with a sheepish grin as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Mm-hm," Nya hummed, pretending to agree with the red ninja. She pointed an accusing finger at him and muttered with pauses to emphasize the importance of her words. "You. Owe me. Big time."

"I do," Kai concurred, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his hoodie and rocking on the balls of his feet. "I really do. You have my word, sis."

Kai watched as Nya glumly walked out of the room to break the news to her boyfriend. He really was sorry to ruin her date like this but he knew that Jay would never ditch his sister. He could trust him with her. Nor would Jay ever jeopardize their relationship with break up threats.

Skylor on the other hand . . . .

Kai furrowed his brow as his phone began vibrating in his jeans pocket. He pulled it out and, without looking at the caller ID, attended the call.

"Hello?" he muttered, unsuspecting of the person on the other end.

"IS THIS SOME KIND OF SICK JOKE?!" Skylor's angry voice tore through Kai's eardrums as he pulled the phone away with a wince.

"HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO FORGIVE YOU FOR YOUR LAZINESS WHEN YOU'RE LATE TO THE DATE THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MAKE UP FOR IT ALL?!"

Kai panicked as he realized his blunder. He muttered apologies into the phone from which the redhead's yells still poured out and made his way out of Nya's room, almost crashing into the doorframe in his hurry.

⚡💧🐉💧⚡

"AAAHH-CHOOOO!"

Snoooooort.

Jay and Nya grimaced as Lloyd sniffed loudly after a sneeze, both of them taking a step back. They watched as the blonde inhaled deeply before blowing his stuffy nose into a wrinkled up tissue.

"I am so sorry, you guys," Lloyd managed to say after his nose cleared a little, his voice sounding thicker and lower than usual due to his illness. He looked pale and weak; dark circles staining the skin below his eyes, his locks of blonde hair tangled and messy, his eyes puffy and his nose hued a light red.

"I never wanted your date to get ruined because of me," Lloyd mumbled, looking up at the couple as he leaned back into the couch. "But you know Kai. The idiot never listens to anyone."

Jay smiled good-naturedly as he made his way over to the couch and sat down next to Lloyd's slumped form. "Hey, buddy, it's okay," he comforted, patting the sick boy's shoulder. "We'd do anything for you."

Jay lifted his blue gaze at his girlfriend who stood there with her arms folded. "Right, Nya?"

"Yeah, sure," she mumbled distractedly as she played with a strand of her black hair.

Lloyd noticed the disappointment in Nya's voice and the way her face registered irritation. He didn't like it. He sat up straight, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders, and moved his eyes from Nya to Jay then back to Nya again.

"You know what," he said, coming up with a plan to take the glum expression off of the ravenette's face. "I'll take care of myself while you two go ahead and hurry back. Kai would never know. Huh? Sound good?"

Jay and Nya both stared at him for a few seconds before Nya shook her head and gave Lloyd a gentle smile. She walked over to the boys and dropped down onto the couch at the other side of the blonde.

"It's alright," she whispered, pinching Lloyd's cheek playfully. "Besides, me and Jay have decided to have a simple date at home while watching over you."

"You know I'm not a kid anymore, right?" Lloyd asked, giving Nya a sidelong glance to which the girl giggled.

"We know," Jay responded for her. "But Kai does raise a good point. Every villain that sets foot in Ninjago always comes for you. We can't leave you alone." He gestured at Lloyd's sick form, adding, "Not like this, at least."

"Don't worry, shorty," Nya muttered, wrapping her arm around Lloyd's shoulders. "No one's mad at you."

The three of them stayed like that for a minute before Lloyd gave an evil smirk. "Should you guys really be this close to me? I am sick afterall."

The couple's eyes widened at that and they drew back from Lloyd with a disgusted "Ugh!" as the blonde chuckled amusedly.

. . .

"There we go," Jay announced, propping up the pillows for Lloyd so that he could rest his back against them. He made sure the comforter was tucked beneath Lloyd from all sides before slapping his hand on the boy's forehead to check for temperature.

"No fever yet," Jay commented with a relieved sigh since his hand didn't feel any severe heat.

"Good," Nya smiled, bringing over Lloyd's Starfarer comic books and stacking the pile on his nightstand. "Here are your comics."

"Your headphones," Jay mentioned, placing the said device on the other nightstand.

"Your thermometer." Nya put the digital thermometer on top of the comic stack.

"Your medicines," Jay said, arranging the bottles of syrups and leaflets of tablets next to the blonde.

"Your cell phone," Nya muttered, throwing the green cased phone in front of Lloyd.

"Chips," Jay grinned as he stuffed packet after packet of spicy potato chips into Lloyd's arms.

"Candies," Nya giggled, flinging the bag of sweets onto the chip packets causing Lloyd to grin widely.

"Movies!" Jay announced, shoving a pile of DVD's onto the bed.

"And a laptop to watch the movies on," Nya declared, placing the device in front of the Green Ninja.

"Oh!" Jay exclaimed, raising a finger excitedly. He bent down and pulled out something green from under Lloyd's bed. "And I even found your old dragon plushie!"

Nya aww-ed at the sight of the stuffed toy as Jay presented it to the blonde. Lloyd's eyes widened as his fingers brushed over the soft surface of the lime green dragon he once slept with to prevent nightmares.

"Lolly Greenhorn!" he announced in amazement as his lips twitched upwards into a smile. As soon as he realized that there were other people in the room watching him with amused grins, he quickly dropped his smile and cleared his throat.

"Oh, look," he muttered boredly as if he hadn't been exceedingly happy to see the toy just seconds ago. "A dumb dragon plushie I've never seen before in my life."

He threw the plushie back onto the bed much to Jay's disappointment. The ginger, however, picked it up and set it down next to Lloyd anyway. "He'll keep you company in these hard times."

"It's a she."

"Oh."

"We'll come to check on you every half hour or so," Nya informed as she pulled Jay out of the room with her. "I'm sure you have everything you need to keep you entertained and comfy."

"Bye, Greenbean!" Jay yelled as he waved at the bedridden boy.

"Bye, guys!"

When the couple disappeared from the doorway, Lloyd craned his neck to confirm their absence before slowly reaching for Lolly Greenhorn. He gasped and retreated as Jay backtracked into the room.

"Oh and if you need anything, don't bother shouting since it won't be good for your throat." The blue ninja pulled out his phone and shook it at Lloyd. "Just give me a call, okie dokie?"

"Okie dokie," Lloyd echoed in agreement.

"But not too often since my girlfriend tends to get irritated," Jay added with a smile.

Lloyd smirked at the thought of Nya bouncing around in frustration and growling at his caller ID. "Ooh, hope I don't interrupt a make-out session," the blonde joked, wiggling his eyebrows at the Master of Lightning.

Both laughed at the statement till Jay's face turned dark, adorned with a grim expression. "You better not," he warned as Lloyd's smile faded. "Otherwise, I will kill you."

Then, Jay's face switched back to its cheery disposition. He waved once more at a horrified Lloyd before closing the door behind him.The Green Ninja blinked a few times before shrugging off the murder threat the usually not-so-violent Jay had given him.

"Guess I don't have to worry about someone not hurting me in my weakened physical state," he muttered as he grabbed Lolly Greenhorn, snuggling with her while scrolling through his phone.
