My POV
It's been months since I visited the GCPD. I really hope Edward is doing ok. I knew to give him space since our last encounter wasn't exactly the greatest, even if he did like the book.
School has been uneventful, though I've never really been interested in anything, I've mainly been very invested in the news.
I heard there was a robbery at a museum, an explosion at a train station, and Jim Gordon was framed for killing a cop. I doubt he would do that and Bruce doesn't believe it either.
I ran into Selina a couple of times and we had some nice conversations.
The next time she comes over to Wayne Manor, I'll rub it in Bruce's face that she's my friend too. I don't care that he has a crush on her, he doesn't have the right to hide people from me.
A couple weeks later, I decided to return back to the police department to see how Edward was holding up. I found Detective Bullock at his desk.
"Hello Detective," I said to get his attention.
"Ah, hello Rebecca, haven't seen you in a little while, what can I do for you?" He seemed happy to see me.
"Would you happen to know where Mr. Nygma is?" I wanted to know. His face instantly dropped when I said his name.
"Never speak of that cop killer," he raised his voice at me.
"Cop killer? What?" I grew confused.
"You didn't hear? Nygma framed Jim for killing a cop," Harvey told me. I didn't know how to react to that.
"Wait.. wait, where is he now?" I asked.
"In Arkham where he belongs," he answered. This can't be happening. Why would such a nice guy like Edward be in Arkham?!
"Detective Bullock, can you please tell me what happened with Mr. Nygma? Like how did this all start in the first place? I wanted to know everything.
"Well, he killed his girlfriend by accident, then started losing his mind about it. I don't know why he decided to frame Jim in the first place, but he was in jail for a few days because of Ed. Eventually, he was released and with further investigation, the clues led to him being framed by Ed. We caught him in the woods while he was threatening Jim, from then until now, he's been in Arkham," Harvey told me the whole story.
I felt so crushed that I wanted to cry.
"Look, I'm really sorry, but I never liked him," Harvey had to be real with me.
"He just wanted to be accepted, to make friends in his own way. Yes, it was weird, but it's who he is, thank you for telling me Detective," I made my exit from the police department and decided to sit outside for a while.
Of course it decided to start raining on me, perfect weather to fit my mood.
All of a sudden, I felt the rain stop, but it wasn't because Gotham's weather was bipolar, there was an umbrella over my head.
"Hello friend," a man with spiky black hair was hovering over me with his umbrella. I recognized him from the news because his face was all over the papers.
"Oswald Cobblepot?" I said his name.
"Yes, that's me, I was just passing by when I noticed you out here all alone getting soaked," he said with his nasally voice. I never took Oswald to be a good guy from what I heard about him. Why is he being nice?
"I'm not sad," I flat out lied.
"Child, we both know that isn't true, I know who you are from my dear friend Ed," he told me.
"You know Mr. Nygma?" I perked up a tiny bit.
"He nursed me back to health when I was injured and we became good friends, he talked a lot about you and how friendly you were to him during work. Made me sick at first, but when he kept going on and on, you seemed like an interesting girl," Oswald explained to me.
"Well, thanks, I just found out that Ed was put in Arkham," I told him the reason why I was sad.
"Yeah, I heard too, been there myself you know, was released a few weeks ago by Hugo Strange," that part didn't surprise me. "I was actually on my way to visit Ed, would you care to join?" He then asked me.
"Sure," I said and then stood up.
This was the first time I've ever been inside Arkham Asylum. It was very noisy with all the loud inmates roaming around. I saw one boy who kept smiling at me and it was freaking me out a little.
When the guards let Edward inside the visiting area, he looked a mess. I felt so sorry for him, yet also a tiny bit nervous since I heard he's been losing his mind.
"Good to see you old friend," Oswald was the first to speak to break the awkward silence. Edward didn't say anything to him and just looked at me.
"I've missed you," Edward said to me.
"What happened to you?" I wanted to hear his side of the story.
"I'm still trying to figure that out for myself, but I'm getting closer to finding out who I am," he responded. Oswald set a present in front of Ed to try and cheer him up.
"It's a puzzle, it has been passed down for generations because nobody could open it," he explained. But Edward opened the box in literally 4 seconds.
"It was a lovely thought," Edward tried to sound polite.
The prison outfit on him looked so strange. He looked way better in a lab coat than stripes. Tears decided to fall from my eyes. It was very embarrassing, but both of them felt bad for me.
"I will be out of here soon Rebecca, I promise," Edward stood up and went over to hug me. Oswald's face never changed. Thoughts were clearly going through his head right now and for all he knew, they were not pleasant.
