My POV
I never expected to be in this room, being interrogated by a cop. I didn't even know what this was for, but I began to explain.
"Edward was fighting with himself again and ended up stabbing himself. He shot me with a dart to stop me from giving away our location," I gave my side of the story with complete honesty.
"I see, now could you please explain why the knife was in your hand?" Jim wanted to know.
"I'm sorry what?" I grew confused.
"When we walked in, we saw that the knife was in your hand and the tranquilizer gun was right beside you as well," he stated.
"Do you really think I'd stab my own friend?" I asked like it was a stupid question.
"Well, did you?" He asked again.
"Of course not!" I raised my voice a little.
"Hey, I'm only asking the questions here," Jim raised his hands in defense.
"Well, have some common sense, Edward is my friend and I would never stab him, if I did that, then why would I shoot myself with a dart?" I then asked him.
"To hide your work that way? I don't know, nobody else was there," Jim admitted.
"Exactly," I sat back in my seat. "I refuse to say anymore."
"So you're saying you'd rather go to court for an attempt at murder and possibly end up in Arkham?" Jim sounded a little surprised.
"Well, if you don't believe me, then yes." I didn't know what I was getting myself into, but it wouldn't end well on my part I'm sure.
I was able to get into the medical examination room where Edward was to check on him. He was awake which was nice, but he still looked a mess.
"Ed, what have you gotten me into?" I asked him.
"I'm sorry, my friend, but this is for the best," was all he said to me.
"But, you're getting me in legal trouble, do you realize that?" I asked him.
"I do," he answered. I couldn't believe he was actually ok with this, I thought he was my friend.
I then walked out of the room because no other words needed to be exchanged. Alfred and Bruce then came running in. I wonder how often they do that? Yet Alfred looked both relieved and angry.
"We're so glad you're alright, Miss. Rebecca, but how could you do this?" He asked me.
"I did nothing Alfred, how do you not believe me?" Everyone was acting very odd ever since we got back. I then knew there somebody I needed to speak with.
"I'll be back," I said and ventured to Oswald's place.
I knocked on the door and it took him 5 seconds to answer.
"Well look who's alive," he sneered at me.
"Save it Oswald, I need to talk to you," I told him.
"As you wish," he let me inside. All the villains that were here earlier were gone, so it was just me and him.
"Why is everyone acting so weird? Even you know I would never try to kill Edward," I started.
"Oh believe me, I know you wouldn't, but this is about something else, revenge," his eyes looked a little bigger when he said that.
"To who exactly?" I was curious.
"To you, I want you to get a taste of Arkham and Ed getting stabbed just seemed like a bonus," he chuckled.
"What are you talking about?" My curiosity turned to confusion.
"You see, I sent one of my men to follow you both and he decided to put the knife in your hand when he saw you knocked out. Ed stabbed himself on his own, didn't expect that, but glad it happened," he told me.
"But, I never did anything to you," I said.
"How can you be friends with someone who doesn't even know who they are? Is he Edward Nygma? Is he The Riddler? Guess we'll never know," Oswald was really making me mad. "Oh and you ran away from bad guys earlier, that's never advised, you should always know that we'll get you and you'll never be able to escape," he then stood up and waddled over to me. "See you in court," he smiled in my face and then turned in the other direction to leave.
"Wait, there's one more thing I'm confused about," I said to get his attention again.
"Oh, I know what it's for, Jervis got to everyone to not believe you, so have fun," he looked back and told me.
"Where is Jervis?" I needed to know.
"Like I'd tell you, now get out," he waved for me to leave. Once I left, I ventured around Gotham to see if some random hypnotist was performing.
Just my luck, he was at The Siren's Club. I walked in and saw him on stage with a couple of volunteers up there.
Hypnotists have always freaked me out for some reason, but it didn't affect me earlier, so I'll be fine.
I hung back a little and waited until his show was finished. When it ended, he disappeared backstage. Now was my chance to talk to him.
"I've been expecting you, my child," he turned around and eyed me.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I asked him.
"Well, Mr. Penguin asked me to turn everyone against you and I did, I hope you have fun in Arkham," he tipped his hat at me and kept moving.
"Wait, I want you to undo your spell on everyone," I probably shouldn't have said that so bluntly.
"You see, I can't do that, my spell didn't work on you, so working around on everyone else seemed the better way," he responded.
"I'll fight you," I really needed to stop saying things that I'd regret.
"No you won't," he smiled at my threat.
"You won't fight back though, that's my advantage," I said.
"Why, when I can have other people fight for me," a random dude came up behind me to grab my arms and hold them behind my back.
"Let go of me," I kept telling the guy, but he was clearly hypnotized.
"He can't hear you," Jervis stated the obvious.
"You won't get away with this Tetch," I scolded him.
"You don't understand do you, I already have," he caressed my chin and then turned his back to me. "I've been so eager to try again you see, my watch has been ticking ever since it's been half past three. You've been standing here talking to me for five minutes straight, but when I'm done with you, Arkham will expect your arrival at that gate," he rhymed.
I didn't realize that his watch was ticking.
"Notice how the ticking starts to synchronize with your heartbeat," he said. This feeling that came over me started to freak me out because he was right. "Can you still hear me?" Jervis grew curious.
"Yes," I answered him. What's wrong with me? Though the real question is, why is his power working now?
"Look into my eyes, not above them or below them, but right into their center," he then instructed. I did as he said and noticed his pupils grew larger.
He then waved at the other guy to release his grasp on my arms. When he did, I actually felt nothing. I forgot that anyone else was even backstage with me and Jervis. Once his process was complete, I still felt nothing.
"Now, I want you to know that when you remain as still as a statue, nobody can see you, except for me since I'm the good guy here. But, if you move, every single bad guy will spot you and you will be arrested. It's plain and simple, just don't move," Jervis told me. I didn't move an inch and stood completely still. "Good, now to make this easier and hopefully Mr. Penguin won't mind," he went and grabbed a knife.
He started walking to me ever so slowly.
"Nobody told me to do this, but this is revenge for my power not working on you before. Now that it has, you'll pay with some of your life," Jervis was getting closer to me. I wanted to panic, but I couldn't.
Then, another voice echoed in the room, I could barely hear it since I was freaking frozen.
"Tetch, Barbara is still waiting on her money for the drinks you bought earlier," it was Selina.
"Tell her I'm busy," he waved her off.
"Rebecca? Wait, what are you doing?" She looked at me and then at the knife that Jervis was holding. "Snap her out of it right now! You're off the clock," Selina demanded.
"A hypnotist never stops, we always keep going," he said. Selina seemed to spring into action and swiftly grabbed the knife out of Jervis's hands.
"Wake her up or else," she threatened. He grew angry, but didn't know what else to do.
"On the count of 3, you'll no longer be hypnotized," he groaned. "1, 2, 3," when he reached three, I was able to take in my surroundings.
"Selina? When did you get here?" I questioned.
"I'll explain everything later, now let's go," she urgently took my hand and we made our way out. I guess Jervis never got to her when he turned all of Gotham against me.
"Thank god you found me, I can't seem to trust anybody at the moment," I told her.
"I know, I saw Jervis going around and brainwashing everyone to believe that you actually did something bad, it seems they all want to put you in Arkham," Selina said.
"I don't know what to do," I felt defeated.
"We can't go to your brother for help?" She wondered.
"No, we can't, him and Alfred don't believe me at all," I answered her.
"Do you know when the trial is?" She then asked.
"I don't know, no one told me anything," I said honestly.
I then remembered something.
"Edward was with me the whole time and Jervis never got to him, he was rude to me on his own terms, but only to protect me. Maybe we can persuade him to help."
"Well you just said he was rude to you, are you sure you want to go to him again?" She wasn't too sure.
"He's the only other person that will believe me, what choice do we have?" I said to her.
"Fine, we'll give it a try," she gave in and we made our way back to the GCPD.
