It Fit Like A Glove
"This is the most perfect dress, but it's not my size," said no character in a book ever. Or if they do it's a tee/sweat shirt, it's like a bajillion sizes too big, and it's their significant other's. Not everything that you see will fit you, nor will you like the look of everything once you've tried it on. The same thing applies to books.
Yes, I myself am a victim of this, though I've changed it in one of my books a little while before writing this. I had the typical "my best friend's closet is my closet" type thing where the dress completely fit. I changed it to being tight in some places and big in others. Jessie (my OC), was built differently than Pam (her best friend), so then the clothing from Pam's closet wouldn't completely fit Jessie.
I once read a book where the only thing that the girl would wear was other people's huge shirts. Her father and a ton of his friends lived in the same house, so she would steal their baggy clothing. It wasn't like there was a reason for her to need other's clothing (ex. lack of money, all of her shirts are in the wash), she just did it. That led to her wearing the shirt of her love interest which I have to admit got a little weird.
Just once I'd like to see a story that shows when clothing is too small. Now that doesn't mean that your character has to be overweight, it just means that the clothing has to be a little too small that they will have to pick something else.
Hey, any of you readers have any suggestions for the next chapter?
