Amara woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring and slammed her hand down on top of it.
"shut up." she groaned as she got out of bed and checked the time. "god damn it!" she hissed and jumped up to get ready. After a late shift at the cafe because her stupid boss overworked his staff she had to finish her essay due today so now...she will be late for school. Again.
Amara ran downstairs, grabbed a protein bar and sprinted out the door. She opened the car door and started it up.
speeding only a little bit, she passed a big beefy man with a bushy moustache who started swearing at her as she flew past. Amara held a hand up in apology but could tell he wasn't satisfied. She shrugged and continued driving towards her school when she finally got there Amara swerved into a park and ran into the school towards her first class, she had made it surprisingly just in time.
"Miss Caine you're late!" Mr Lane said. "No matter, you made it just in time for the quiz!"
"oh shit, I forgot about that today," Lina whispered.
"don't worry you will be fi-" She got cut off by someone awfully familiar walking in the door.
"who's that?" Lina asked clearly seeing Amara's reaction.
"That," I said, "is the guy who witnessed me being stood up on Saturday."
"oooh, this will be great then." she winked at her.
"Thanks for your support." Amara groaned and tried to make herself as small as possible.
Noah saw Amara and started walking to sit down right next to her. "Hey, I recognise you! You're the girl from the cafe! Amara right?"
Lina nudged Amara, "Ye-yeah that's me! Your name's Noah right?"
"The one and only." he swept his hands in a flourish.
Lina nearly knocked Amara off her chair as she stuck her hand out for Noah, "Hi! I'm Lina!"
"Pleasure to meet you." He shook her hand.

After that strange interaction with the boy who stood her up, Amara had begun noticing things. Things that didn't seem right, things that didn't seem to fit into the world she had lived in for her entire life.
Amara is a person who needed order and structure in her life so over the course of the week she made a mental list.
1. She swore she had seen other people with a moving newspaper too.
2. Noah had something in his pocket that he never took out but would always make sure was still there.
3. She had seen a few people in things that looked like cloaks.
4. she had heard people whispering about a certain boy named Harry Potter.
5. Strange attacks happening with suspicious explanations including the destruction of the Millenium Bridge with lots of people injured and killed.
these strange occurrences proved to Amara that maybe the world wasn't exactly how it seemed. Or maybe she was crazy and needed to go to a doctor, Noah certainly thought so.
Throughout the week Noah had for some reason decided to start hanging out with Lina and Amara so now their little duo was a trio which was fun but meant he always had to be involved in their conversations which occasionally annoyed Amara. For example, during a conversation with Lina about the moving newspapers, Noah had been eavesdropping and abruptly shot her down saying she was crazy. He seemed oddly defensive therefore why number two had made it onto her list of strange events.
Amara started to wonder how long things had been like this and how she hadn't noticed it. She thought back through the years to see if she could remember any strange news broadcasts and miraculously she remembered two things.
6. A while back there had been a news story about a house on Privet Drive which had hundreds of owls that were not native to the area just sitting on their house and surrounding area.
7. And the year after that multiple people had stated they had seen a FLYING CAR on the morning of the 1st of September.
if either of these things weren't strange Amara didn't know what was. With the evidence stacking up she realised she must have been blind to the world...what was REALLY happening?
As she was trying to figure this out another question crept to the front of her mind.
How had NO ONE noticed any of this before?
Amara became consumed by this question how HAD no one noticed before? was this just...normal? Maybe Noah was right...maybe she really was crazy!
Amara had started doubting herself but nevertheless, she kept looking out for any more strange occurrences and before she knew it there was one that was really hard to ignore.
