❃The Holiday❃

its crimble time,,, enjoy

December 23rd, 1967
11:59 A.M.

It was a cold season, winter. The single stroke of bad luck for two so far was that their heater gave out. It was safe to say the house was freezing at night, yet now at least, it was bearable.

As an effort to keep warm, (Y/n) took a hot shower. Stepping out of said shower, steam swirled around the small room, leaving a snug atmosphere. She spent the last half hour singing some of her favorite songs with no actual music to go with it. After getting dressed, she went to the kitchen for a drink of water, passing their recently purchased pine tree.

so many S's

This morning, (Y/n) woke up to see a couple presents from Dally under the tree. She already laid out a few for him the night before.

Looking outside, she noticed it was still snowing. She saw Dallas sitting out on the balcony, practically shivering as he stared at the street below.

(Y/n): He's awfully stubborn... That flimsy leather jacket does no justice in this weather.

She opened the stained glass doors as Dally turned to look at her. He reeked of tobacco, but (Y/n) didn't want to bring it up. She was then hit with the freezing air, wishing she could crawl into bed and stay there until summer.

"Won't you come inside already? I don't want you catching a cold!" the girl exclaimed as her wet hair clung to her neck. She wrapped her arms around herself, teeth chattering slightly.

"Aw, you really do care about me?" Dallas smirked, cheeks reddening slightly as he shifted comfortably in his seat.

Flustered, the girl responded: "I don't want to take care of you more than I already have to."

"Ouch."

He got up and walked back inside, shrugging off the thin jacket and kicking off his loafers.

The house was almost fully decorated for Christmas*, with tinsel and velvet dressing the fireplace. Aromatic potpourri filled the room with notes of woody clove, citrusy orange, and sweet cinnamon.

The two bought a pine tree the day before, and were planning on decorating it today. Shiny new aluminum ones were hot on the market, but both of them much preferred an actual tree. It didn't hurt to have the price marked down, allowing (Y/n) and Dallas one much nicer than their budget would've allowed before the silver "tree" extravaganza.

"So are we going to decorate this thing or what?" Dally asked, sinking into the chair by the fireplace.

"We're going to need the proper decorations... it has to be consistent and presentable... nobody wants a messy tree paired with a nice home..." At this point she was only mumbling to herself while pacing around him.

"(Y/n), is nobody coming over?" he said sarcastically.

"I thought we were going to invite the boys over."

"Oh yeah, I'll call Darry later about that."

For a few moments the only sound in the house came from the light crackling of the fire.

"I got it!" (Y/n) started, "We can decorate the tree with pomander ornaments to match the fireplace!"

"What the hell is a pomander?"

"It's like the potpourri I put on the table."

He looked at her with a confused look plastered on his face. He tilted his head in a questioning manner, blinking a few times.

"It's the stuff that makes the room smell like oranges and cinnamon?"

He nodded.

"First we need to get cloves!" (Y/n) exclaimed, running off to her room to grab a coat and put on some shoes. Dally chuckled and shook his head, following her to do the same. Her mood was quite infectious at times.

The two spent the rest of the day gathering supplies and making pomanders. All of their hard work paid off once they saw the glow the room showed off that night.

At least the decorations were nice. That was an understatement, but was still, well, cold.

"We're here! Your guests of honor have arrived," Two-Bit exclaimed, bursting through the seldom unlocked door.

"Oh, cause you're so honorable," Soda said, drawing out the "so" as he walked into the room.

Dallas invited the gang over to decorate the tree. Not sure if they'd actually show, he convinced them by the casual suggestion that is (Y/n)'s chocolate cake. Naturally they all showed, only a few minutes late to the three in the afternoon agreement.

Ponyboy, and Johnny planned on making a beeline to the couch, but Daryl guided them over to their hosts, mothering them like he always did. He was also carrying a paper bag. Setting it down on the kitchen counter, he greeted the two.

"I brought eggnog for the boys and cranberry juice for the real adults here," he joked.

"We still have some ginger ale in the house," said (Y/n). "Anybody feel like some cranberry punch to go with the festivities?" she said, in a comical tone.

After passing out some red glasses for flair, everyone lined up (a jumble really) to get their share.

"Heya, Two!" Soda tried to suppress a laugh.

"What?"

"I dare you,," Soda replied, struggling to get the words out.

"Yeah," Two Bit countered, tilting his head in confusion.

"T-t-oo mix your egg,,-nog with the cranberry juice!" Soda was dying now.

To the group it wasn't the funniest thing in the world, but Soda's laugh was contagious.

Strangely enough, Two's done this before!

"Are you kidding me, Soda Pop?" he replied, chuckling a bit with the rest of them.

He poured a ratio of two to one, with cranberry on the lesser side, and drank it without a sweat. Nobody was laughing quite as hard now, as it seemed a bit gross.

"Now, how do you think I made the cranberry bread pudding?" Two Bit laughed. "The chef always tastes the ingredients first!"

The room erupted with a hearty chuckle, and Soda felt a little embarrassed, but not enough to try some himself.

As it turns out, it wasn't bad at all! Guess they have a new christmas tradition, (Y/n) included!

About an hour later, Dally suggested (Y/n) take out the cake. Soon, the plates and slices were passed out, gently wafting the chocolaty treat around the room.

Everyone loved it of course, and stopped to make some comment or joke about "What she could have possibly done to make this cake so good." "Poison?"

After, the boys went home, leaving the two roommates to clean up the apartment and get ready for bed.

(Y/n) was never more excited to get up early on a Monday. Normally she would be getting up to go to work, but it was Christmas, and the Raymonds were a kind old couple. Instead, she stayed in her soft pajamas, wrapping a fuzzy robe around her and sliding into some matching slippers, before going to the living room.

She heard a light rustle coming from the background, and turned around to see Dallas leaned into the doorway.

"Presents?" she asked.

"Hell yeah."

He sauntered over to the tree by the front door, and passed a few presents to (Y/n).

"You first," he smiled.

They opened their presents joyfully, and soon Dallas was down to the last one.

"I wonder what this one is," he said while shaking the soft gift lightly.

"A little wobbly," he commented jokingly.

"Just open it already!"

Unwrapping the present, he found a brand new leather jacket, lined with wool. His brows crinkled together, eyes sparkling as he tried to put his words together.

"Thank you."

(Y/n)'s smile shone about as bright as the lights around their tree. He wouldn't spill out a paragraph, but those two words were more than enough for her.

"Of course," she smiled, tilting her head absentmindedly. He was awestruck by her appearance, but didn't allow it to show. She had just woken up, but was still as beautiful to him as the first time he laid eyes on her.

Instead, his face was almost unreadable, but (Y/n) could tell he was extremely appreciative of her gift. After cleaning up the papered mess, the two lazed around the house a bit, making hot cocoa and sitting next to (not cuddling unfortunately-both thought) each other by the fire.

They both wished for the same thing. Alas, if they had known it was mutual.

(*or other winter holidays this is more generic because i'm not very familiar with any religion/traditions so this is mostly based off of popular culture and what i do with my family around this time, which is less based around a belief system and more about the time spent with those i don't see super often. hope you enjoyed it though!)
