Chapter 5

A/n: Hi.

---- Craig's P.O.V. ----

All of that time we spent trying to find this guy, trying to help prevent something disastrous from happening, all of this for nothing. We're back at square one. We need to find something else. We needed more time. But time was running out for us to stop this guy.

The others went home after a while and it was just Evan and I left in his house. He sighed and stood up, walking across the room and to the stairs that lead to his basement.

Should I follow him?

No, he might be taking this harder than you.

It is the guy that took her away from him.

I really should be there for him though.

He's your best friend.

Don't make him be alone.

I stood up from my chair after some debating between myself and walk out of the room, to the staircase that would take me into Evan's basement. I slowly and quietly made my way into the basement. There were no lights on except for a small desk lamp. No, I take that back. The computer monitors were glowing and Evan was in his usual chair, clicking and typing and writing. I came up behind him and placed my hand gently on his shoulder.

"Go away Craig," he said, not looking up from what he was doing.

"Evan-"

"Leave. Me. Alone." he spoke irritably. I sighed and gave his shoulder a small squeeze before I made my way to the stairs.

"Evan," I called to him. He didn't look up, but I could tell he was listening.

"I'm here for you. Just remember that." he stopped what he was doing for a second, but didn't look up. Then he just went back to work. I made my way up the stairs and went into Evan's living room, where we all were merely a few hours ago, ready to stop this guy.

I should stay here tonight, just in case Evan needs something.

I went into Evan's bedroom and pulled a couple of blankets out of the closet as well as a pillow. I set them all up on the couch and made myself comfortable. Darkness greeted me easily from the long day.

---- five days later, Jon's P.O.V. ----

I haven't heard anything from Evan in since we went to that guy's house. Even when we were in the truck, he said nothing on the way back to his place. I want to go see if he's alright, but Craig said that it would just be better to leave him alone right now.

Continuing to walk down the street, I passed Evan's house and stopped. I wanted so badly to see if he's alright, but it might be better to just leave him alone.

You know what? Screw it.

I walked up the cracked, concrete walkway to Evan's front door and rung the doorbell. I stuck my hand back into my blue, hoodie pocket as I waited for an answer. Unfortunately for me, there was no answer. I rung it again because I know Evan hasn't left his house in the last five days. No noise, no movement, no voices, nothing.

I groaned and strode behind Evan's house to his backyard filled with dead weeds. I grabbed the doorknob of his back door and opened it with ease. Evan always kept the back door open when he was home. I stepped inside and was met with hot and stale air. I slipped my hoodie off and opened up a few windows.

"Evan?" I called, walking into his bedroom. His bed was neatly made. I felt his bed and it was cool, or at least as cool as it could be in his warm house.

"Evan?" I called yet again, checking his bathroom and kitchen. There was nothing. There could only be one other place he could be in his house. I made my way to the staircase leading down to Evan's basement. I came to the bottom and saw a desk lamp and computer monitors lighting up his work area. No sign of Evan though.

I decided it would probably be a good idea to turn on the lights since I couldn't see shit down here. I flicked the lights on and peered around the basement. I looked to the left of the staircase and panicked at seeing my best friend lying on the floor in front of a bookshelf. (Knowledge!!)

"Evan!" I yelled, rushing over to his unconscious body on the floor. I tapped his cheek and shook him in an attempt to wake him up. His face was pale and he had noticeable bags under his eyes. Beads of sweat covered his forehead.

"C'mon, wake up Evan. Wake up," I said, shaking him a bit more. He groaned quietly and his eyes fluttered open. I let out a sigh of relief.

"God, you scared the shit outta me," I said, placing my hand on his shoulder. He looked confused as to what the hell was going on.

"What are you doing here Jon?" he asked hoarsely.

"I came to check up on you since I haven't heard from you in the last few days," I explained, shaking my head. "I'm glad I did because I found you here, passed out on the floor." Evan was still giving me a slightly confused stare.

"When was the last time you ate?" I asked, helping him sit up. He simply shrugged. I let out another sigh as I slung his arm over my shoulder, making us both stand up.

"You think you'll be able to walk upstairs?" I asked. He nodded and I helped Evan walk up the stairs and into the kitchen. I set him down in a kitchen chair and looked in his fridge for something he could eat. He had some pizza in there and I opened it up to make sure it hadn't gone bad. It didn't. I popped a couple pieces in the microwave, poured Evan a glass of water, and took a seat next to Evan. He looked like he hadn't showered in a week and his hands were shaking. His breathing was a bit shallow. He sipped the water and placed it back down on the table.

"Evan, you need to take care of yourself," I said gently. He stared down at his water still.

"I need to find more proof," he spoke hoarsely yet again. The microwave beeped and I stood up, taking the pizza out and handing it to Evan.

"And you will," I said. "You're not going to find it if you pass out though." He took a small bite of his pizza.

"I know it's him," he started. "But I can't do anything or even find a lead if I can't find more proof it's him though. I need to stop him."

"I know Evan, but I don't want you to almost die in the process," I said. His eyes welled up a bit with tears.

"I miss her Jon," he said, looking up at me.

"I do too," I said, putting my hand on his shoulder. "We'll get him."

A/n: So, this is starting to get interesting, am I right? *silence* I think it's getting interesting. Don't have much to say this time guys. Stay cool!

Love you all,

-Alex <3
