FIFTY
I've been in the dark for a while now
Lyric prank?
(Hold on, it's a really good song)
Not seeing the light shine, not feeling the love
Nice
Then one day, you came in to allow
My heart to take off like a dove
Sooo, what song is it? Who is it by?
Chasing the Sun by Cristofer
I've never heard of him before. I'll have to listen to that song tho. What's with his name???
He's really underrated and I love him. It's his stage name. He's a little weird
Is he cute? Cuter than me?
No, it's just his voice is kind of like a lullaby sounds lol. It's soothing
Sweet. So, are you still sure that I lost our deal?
What deal?
Oh, come on now. You know what deal I'm talking about
No, not really
It hasn't been that long. Only a couple months
That's long lol. I've been studying my butt off for my finals and it paid off, so no, I really don't know what you're talking about
Well, I won't tell you. However, I want to ask you a favor
Why? You're being weird
Luna, trust me
I don't want to, Drake. I may like you a ton, but right now you're acting weird. I don't like it
This is going to be harder than I thought it was going to be
What are you talking about
Okay, in a couple of seconds, there will be a knock on your door. I want you to open the door when you hear the knock
Now I don't want to open my door, just to spite you
You better open that freaking door, Luna. If you don't, then you're ruining my plan
What plan? You know I hate surprises
But this one is a good one!
Drake, really?
Have you heard the knock yet
No
What? You should've. God, everything is going down in flames. I'll be there in a minute so I can make sure this goes off without a hitch
Drake? What are you talking about?
Drake Peyton
Come back
God, I'm not leaving my bed
You'll have to force me out
There was frantic knocking on my door but I didn't budge. "Luna! Come on, open the door!"
"No," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. "You're acting weird."
"My Lord, girl. You're really going to make me spoil the surprise, aren't you?"
"Yes," I said, feeling slightly bad. I sighed. "Okay, fine, I'll get up."
"For real?" Drake asked, incredulously. "What, did you suddenly feel bad for me?"
"You know me so well," I said, standing up. I smoothed down my T-Shirt and headed to the door. "Before I open it, though, you have to promise me it's a good surprise. Also, that you will explain what the deal we made a couple months ago was about."
"Oh, I think it'll be evident once you see what's out here."
"What?" I asked as I opened the door. My heart stopped and my breath got caught in my throat. There were five people standing in front of me that I hadn't seen in a while. Behind them was Drake, standing next to my parents. "I remember now."
"I told you you would," Drake said, smiling widely. "Surprise!"
"Moony, come here and give us a hug," Myles said, holding his arms out.
"She looks like she's going to faint," Leila said, frowning. She reached out to steady me and placed her hand on my forehead. "Are you feeling okay, Luna?"
"You're all here," I said quietly. "Drake, how'd you do it?"
"I begged Charlotte to give me their numbers and she surprisingly gave them to me," Drake said, shrugging. "At first, Leila didn't believe me that I know you."
"You were weird," Leila said, snorting. "Lillian and I were going to block you when the boys convinced us to continue texting him."
"That's what I thought," I said, finally smiling. "So, how'd you get my parents wrapped up in this?"
"Oh, I didn't. Your brothers did."
"What?"
"We felt like they should be here too," Micah said, shrugging.
"It was my idea!" Matthew said, grinning. "I figured Mom and Dad would want to meet the guy who loves their baby."
I stopped short. "Love?"
"I didn't say it like that," Drake said bitterly. He wouldn't meet my eyes. "All I said was that I care about you very much."
"Don't worry, Luna," my mom said. "We approve."
"Oh my," I said. "We're not together yet. I am waiting for him."
"Oh, not the waiting game," Myles said, groaning. "What, are you stuck on your ex or something?"
"Um, no," Drake said awkwardly. "She wanted me to get better. Mental health wise."
"Oh, I'm sorry bro."
"That's why you don't open your mouth thinking you know everything, Myles," I said, shaking my head.
"There's my baby sister," Myles said, tugging me toward him. I was suddenly smashed from all sides.
"Guys, I do want to live to see tomorrow," I choked out. I caught Drake's eye and said, "Drake, help me."
"I'm not getting in the middle of that," he said, shrugging.
"Guys," I said, frowning. "You know how I don't like being touched."
My sisters were the first to let go. "Come on, boys. Let go of her," Leila said.
"Only if Mom and Dad say so."
"Boys, let go," my dad said, his deep voice ringing out in the small hallway. It was the first time my dad had spoken that day. They immediately let go, and I sighed. Paul and Charlotte were suddenly standing next to Drake but I didn't focus on them.
"Daddy, are you okay?" I asked, frowning. "I know the last guy I told you guys about was awful but Drake is different."
"I'm not upset," my dad said, pushing through my siblings to get to me. "He's a good one. He reached out to us instead of us reaching out to him to meet. You just seem so grown up and it's hard seeing you like that. You're my baby. You aren't supposed to be taking care of anyone else besides yourself, at least in my mind."
I teared up and said, "Thank you, Daddy."
"Now, son," my dad said, turning to Drake. "You better take care of her heart."
"She's already taking care of mine, sir," Drake said, smiling slightly. "That's the least I could do."
"You all are too sappy," Micah said, shaking his head. "Let's go out and do something so we can get to know Drake."
"Luna, what's the best spot we can go to eat and talk?" Lillian asked, grinning. "You know I love food."
"Um, I guess Utopia is pretty good," I said, thinking hard.
"Ooh!" Charlotte said excitedly. She pushed through my siblings, dragging Paul behind her. "We haven't been there in forever!"
"You and your friends can lead the way." My brothers pushed me forward, so I quickly grabbed Drake's hand before he got caught in the throng known as my siblings. Unfortunately, Charlotte and Paul got caught up in the crowd. Drake squeezed my hand.
"I can't believe you did this," I said quietly, glancing up at him. "I didn't think it was possible."
"I'm pretty good, aren't I?" Drake laughed when I hit his arm. "I'm kidding."
"I'm glad you are happy now but that doesn't mean you can get a huge ego," I said, rolling my eyes. I stayed silent before saying, "Thank you, Drake. This is the best present I could have asked for."
"You're welcome," he said happily. "Now you have to go to graduation!"
"I know," I said, frowning. However, I was secretly happy for this boy by my side. "Don't remind me."
"I'll always bring this up!" Drake said, excitedly. He gripped my hand with a sort of tense happiness. "I can rub it in that I beat you!"
"You wouldn't dare," I said, grinning. I let out a giggle when Drake enthusiastically nodded. Behind me, the familiar chatter from my siblings and parents made my heart swell.
When Drake first texted me, I thought he was weird and he just wouldn't go anyway. I was so wrong. Now, I had a boy that actually really liked me. Now, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Now, I had my siblings back, even if they weren't really gone. Now, I had a purpose. Maybe Drake texting me was fate. Maybe I also needed to be saved, like how I saved him. I guessed that came with the risk of falling. It may be scary at first but everything that came with it proved it really was worth it.
