Chapter 27: Confessions And Revelations
It was agonizing, just sitting in our cells, not knowing what was going on. And it was more agonizing with the pain that Kate's betrayal had caused.
There were so many emotions running around. Relief that she wasn't dead as well as shock. Angry and hurt with her betrayal and lies.
Mostly to Chase and Kameron. They weren't speaking, just staring at nothing, completely lost in thought.
I sighed and took my backpack and held it close. It had the spell I needed and the paper I took from King Jared.
"Guys we need to find a way out of here." Stark said, looking around.
"Forget it, it's enchanted. That spell book has powerful spells." Rodger said.
"So are we just going to give up!" Gomin demanded.
"I'm just saying." Rodger replied.
"Well stop saying and actually do something useful." Gomin snapped.
"Ok, if one more person dares snap at someone, so help me, I will personally see to it that you get sent to prison." Fany said, feeling irritated.
"Aren't we already in prison." Stark sarcastically snapped.
Fany's eyes widened. Tears started forming in her eyes and Stark looked at her, shocked. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you." Stark said, going over to her and hugging her.
"Don't touch me." She half heartedly said, swatting away his hands.
"I'm really sorry."
"Be sorry somewhere else!" Fany was suddenly angry.
"I said I was sorry! What more do you want?! My gosh being pregnant has got you all emotional." Stark said, angry.
"So are you saying that I am being irrationally angry because of my being pregnant?" Fany asked, her voice deadly. "That I don't have the right to be angry because you did something wrong."
I rolled my eyes and sighed. I saw Stark trying to reply but couldn't.
"What, cat got your tongue." Fany snapped.
I sighed again. Suddenly Fany couldn't talk. Rodger and Gomin tried speaking but found they couldn't either.
Everyone started panicking so I explained.
"Sorry guys but you guys are giving me a headache. So I put a spell on you." I looked at everyone's outraged faces and shrugged.
I looked at Stark and Fany. "Oh and don't try to get out of it. Jemin taught it to me in a way that only I could undo the spell."
Everyone started gesturing with their hands to show their anger, except for Chase and Kameron, who didn't care, but I ignored them. I was irritated with everyone and they weren't helping.
I opened my bag and took out the piece of paper and read it. He needs twins. He has Kasey and Kasdar. But what's next.
As I continued to come up with explanations and an answer, the cell opened and King Jared walked.
"Greetings my friends." He said, an evil smile in place.
I glared at him. "What do you want?"
King Jared frowned. "That was rude. I came in to check on your well being, of course."
I ignored him.
He raised an eye brow and looked at Gomin. "I'm amazed. I was expecting a sarcastic respond from you."
Gomin glared at him and tried to speak but couldn't. Oops. Before I could undo the spell, King Jared chuckled.
"I see Mickey has put a spell on you guys. I don't know why but that is very funny and cruel. I didn't think you had it in you."
I bit my lips.
"Anyway, Mickey I came here to ask for a favor."
"Too bad because I'm not doing anything for you." I replied, calmly.
King Jared smirked. "Well then, by force it is."
Before I could react, my bag went straight into his out-stretched hands. I got up to get it back but as soon as I took one step, I froze. I struggled to move but it was pointless.
"Now. Lets see what we have here." King Jared said, dumbing out everything to the floor.
He started going through the clothes and bottles of water I had bought with me until his hands landed on the spell book.
"What's this? A spell book?" He turned the book around and looked through some pages and threw it away. "That's useless to me now. Not as powerful as The Older Twin."
I closed my eyes and thanked God that he hadn't read the spell that would defeat him.
I opened my eyes and gasped. King Jared held a piece of paper. The paper I had ripped out of The Older Twin.
As he read it, his smile grew wider. "Oh my. My goodness, you bad girl. I've been looking for this. It answers so many question. Twins? Well luckily I have the perfect candidates. Helpless little children."
I struggled against the spell he put on me but it was worthless. "You'll never get away with it."
Kind Jared smirked. "I think I already have. Now I need one more thing from you."
"I won't give it to you."
"Where is the bracelet?"
At this I smiled. "I'll never tell."
"I'll kill you."
At this Gomin got up and raced towards King Jared, who wasn't expecting it. They both fell down and King Jared hit his head, at the same time releasing the spell he had on me.
I also released the spell I put.
"Don't ever threaten her." Gomin spat. Stark came forward and started muttering a spell.
But before we could even think about escaping, someone came through the door and quickly attacked Gomin, sending him crashing against the wall. Before anyone of us could react, the person grabbed Stark by the neck and flipped her hair away.
Kameron quickly stood up and Kate flashed a smile towards us. "Move and I could easily break his neck and kill him. I'm warning you, sit down or else."
Everyone slowly sat down as King Jared got to his feet, wiping away dust from his sleeves.
"Thank you darling." Jared said, walking towards her.
"Don't call her that!" Chase snapped.
Jared looked down at Chase and smirked. "You must be the lover."
Chase continued to glare at him as he chuckled.
"This is truly amusing." Jared said.
"What did you do to her?" Kameron whispered, never taking his eyes off of his twin.
"Nothing."
"You liar! What did you do to her?" Kameron yelled.
"Yell one more time and I'll kill him." Kate threatened.
Kameron glared at his sister. "What did he do to you?"
"Nothing." Kate replied.
"Then why are your eyes red?" Chase asked.
"I needed to disguise them." Kate replied. "And red seemed like a great choice."
Stark laughed bitterly. "Looks like you and my father have something in common huh. Traitors!"
King Jared laughed. "Sam never betrayed you guys, you fools!"
"What are you talking about? He did!" Stark replied.
"At first he did. But then he had a change of hearts. Haven't you ever wondered how Mickey got her powers?" King Jared said, walking towards Stark. "He tricked Marvin."
"What? How?" Stark asked, confused.
"I didn't know how he did it until I got my hands on The Older Twin. I don't know how Sam knew the spell but he did!"
"The spell for what?" I asked, curious. I wanted to know how I got my powers.
King Jared sighed. "Sam knew it was too late to reverse the spell that was cast about the youngest child saving the kingdom and breaking the spell. So he did the last thing anyone expected. He killed Marvin and gave Mickey his powers."
Everyone stared at King Jared, dumbfounded.
"That's not possible!" Stark denied.
"The Older Twin makes almost everything possible. The only way that Mickey could get Marvin's power was for the person he trusted most to kill him. He trusted Sam most and he killed him. But the spell was too powerful for Sam to do and it killed him. But instead of the spell not working, Mickey ended up with both their powers."
King Jared walked up to me and knelt down. "That, my dear, is why you are so powerful. You have two of the most strongest and greatest people's powers."
No one said anything, completely shocked at the turn of events.
"Why are you telling us this now?" Stark asked.
"Because Stark," Jared said, looking at him. "I want you to know why exactly I want to kill you. Your father betrayed Marvin and killed him. And I'll kill you.
"Touch him and you will suffer." Fany threatened.
Jared smiled. "Maybe I'll kill you first. Then Stark will know how it feels to lose someone you care about."
Suddenly Cole walked in. "Dad, we have a problem."
Jared glared at his son. "What!"
Cole looked at us then back at his father. "Can we speak in private?"
King Jared sighed. "Can't this wait?"
"It can't. It's an emergency." Cole replied.
Jared closed his eyes. "Fine. Kate, come."
We watched as they left and heard their footsteps fade away. And then complete silence.
I looked at Stark who looked lost in thought. I couldn't blame him.
For 10 minutes no one said anything then suddenly the door was opened.
What no one was prepared to see was Levin. Gomin stood up, surprised and raced over to his dad and hugged him.
"What are you doing here?" Gomin asked in disbelief.
"No time to explain, we need to go. Oh and Mickey, you're so dead." Levin said with a slight smile.
I chuckled and got up. "At the moment, I don't care. Lets get out of here."
"Ok. You guys need to put these on." Levin said handing everyone a ring.
"What's this?" Rodger asked, putting one on.
"This will take you to the safe house. All you have to do is close your eyes and picture someone who is already there. Queen Tara is there so everyone picture her. And you'll end up there."
"That's so cool!" Gomin explained.
"Ya ya now hurry."
"What about Kasdar and Kasey?" I asked.
Everyone stared at me, shocked. "Are you crazy! They aren't with us anymore!" Rodger said.
"I know. Sorry..." I trailed off. "I just had a feeling that maybe they were doing this against their will."
"Well your wrong. Now lets go!" Gomin said.
Before we closed our eyes, Gomin looked at his dad. "Where's your ring?" I looked at his dad and noticed he wasn't wearing one.
"I'll meet you guys back there. I need to tell the others that you're safe," he replied
"I'll come with you." Gomin said.
"No you can't."
"I'm not leaving you here!"
"Son, you need to look after the princess, not me." Levin replied, with a smile. "Now go."
Gomin looked like he was about to argue but changed his mind. "Be safe."
"Always."
"Ok everyone, lets do this. Close yours eyes." Fany instructed.
I closed my eyes and pictured my mom's face. Suddenly I felt like I was falling before the feeling stopped.
I slowly opened my eyes but before I could see anything, I was attacked with a hug.
"Thank God you're ok. We were so worried! Don't ever do that again! You are so grounded."
I laughed as I hugged my mom. "Missed you too, mom."
I saw Livy hugging Kameron and everyone laughing with relief.
"What happened? How did you guys find us?" Rodger asked, hugging mom.
"I don't know. After Mickey left, we sent another search party. I don't know how they found you but they did!" My mom replied.
"Where is Sinaya?" I asked.
"Sinaya, James and Jordan left to look for you." Queen Ella suddenly said.
"What?! Why would you let them go?" Rodger demanded.
"After you left Mickey, they threatened to sneak out too. They couldn't take it anymore. They wanted to help. So we let them." My mom replied.
"Don't worry, they'll be back soon." Queen Ella reassured us.
"Who else left?" Gomin asked.
"Well your parents and Chase's parents and the kings. Queen Linda, James, Jordan, Sinaya and Jemin." Tara said.
I nodded. "Ok."
"So what happened?" Queen Ella asked.
I looked at Kameron then Stark then Chase. "Lets wait till everyone gets back. We.....we don't want to repeat it twice."
*************
We waited two agonizing hours before they came back. They were covered in blood and Sinaya had a broken leg. But no one had died.
But Jemin was missing. They couldn't find him and had to leave. Everyone was quiet and worried about him.
Then we started our story. I did most of the talking with everyone filling in the gaps.
After our story, everyone looked shocked, devastated, confused and angry.
No one talked. No one knew what to say.
Slowly, people started to get up and leave. I saw my mom silently cry and my dad comfort her.
I wanted to kill Robby. And I wanted Kate to join him.
At last, only Gomin and I were left, sitting alone.
"What do we do?" I asked resting my head on his shoulder.
Gomin shook his head. "I have no idea."
We sat like that until nightfall. We then went to our rooms and I fell asleep before I hit the pillow.
***********
The next morning was spent trying to make a plan. But no one knew what to do and decided to focus on finding Jemin. They sent a small search party but came up empty that night.
And the night after. And the night after.
It wasn't until the fifth day that something happened.
I woke up from a bad dream at 2am and couldn't go back to bed. It had been like this for a few days so I decided to take a walk.
I slowly made my way to the stairs that would lead me outside and got out. It was cold and I pulled my jacket closer to my body.
I took a few steps, careful not to get lost in the woods. And then I heard it.
Footsteps. It was silent but not completely. As my heart raced, I continued to seem oblivious to it and turned around to make my way back to the safe house.
But before I could take more than five steps, a figure came right in front of me and shut my mouth with their hands so I couldn't scream. I struggled against the person but it was no use.
"Shhh Mickey. Mickey it's me. Stop." I froze as I looked at Kasdar.
"I'm not going to hurt you please. I want to explain something to you. Nod if you understand."
I slowly nodded once. "Good. Now promise you won't scream if I let you go."
I nodded my head twice. "Mickey I'm serious. I'm here to help but if I feel like you're in any way seeking help, I will leave before you can do anything and trust me, you need to hear what I have to say."
I stared at Kasdar. Then nodded again. He carefully let go and I didn't say anything.
He was right, I needed help. Even if it was just an explanation, I needed information because right now, we were all at a dead end and if Kasdar could help, then I'm willing to listen.
"Ok good. Can we go a little further. I don't want to be overheard."
I bit my lips then nodded. We walked in silence for 10 minutes before stopping. Kasdar sat down and looked up at me
"You should sit. It's a long story."
I sat down across from him and waited.
Kasdar sighed. "I'm not a Chari."
I slowly nodded. "Ok well I could have guessed that since you did magic. But then what are you? You don't have the identification to be Carsim or Damtal or Malign. You look human."
Kasdar then slowly got up and lifted his shirt. My eyes went wide and I turned around.
"What are you doing?!" I exclaimed.
"Calm down! Just look. Trust me." Kasdar replied.
I bit my lips and hesitated for a few seconds before carefully looking up. And then I gasped.
Kasdar was facing away from me and his back was bare. What shocked me was the letter on his back. There was a V. The Malign identification.
"H-how is this possible? What does that even mean?" I managed to choke out.
Kasdar put his shirt back down and faced me. He sat down and started.
"I'm half Malign."
I literally felt my jaw drop. When it was clear that I wouldn't say anything, he continued.
"And half human."
How was that even possible? I had never heard of a Malign mating with a human.
"How is that even possible? It's unheard off." I said.
"Well it is possible but you're right, it is unheard off. You see, Maligns and Damtals hate humans so much that they would never even think about falling in love with one."
I nodded. "Ya."
"My dad was a Malign. And he was friends with Tori's parents. Tori's mom had a friend who was human and she knew all about this world. And one day Tori's mom introduced my dad to her. And they fell in love."
I couldn't help the small smile from appearing on my face. "That's nice."
Kasdar managed a small smile. "Ya, it is. But my dad never told anyone. And Kasey and I were born but no one knew. My dad was afraid that the Maligns might harm my mom and us, might even kill us. But then...." Kasdar trailed off.
"You don't have to tell me." I said softly.
"No I need you to understand. I need you to see why I have done what I did. That I would never intentionally hurt anyone. Or you."
I bit my lips. I didn't know how to respond to that.
He sighed. "My mom left one day. She just disappeared and we never heard from her again. But before we could even mourn her properly, the war started."
I looked down, knowing what happens next.
"Tori's parents were killed. And so was my father."
I got up and sat next to him. I took his hands and squeezed them. "I'm really sorry."
Kasdar shook his head. "It's fine." He whispered.
We sat like that for a couple of minutes before he started.
"Tori was angry. She loved her parents so much, she needed to get them back. And you know what she tried to do. She stole the bracelet and started looking for The Great Book. But you can't blame her. She lost her parents and had us to take care of. We were so young and devastated."
"She didn't tell us about her stealing the bracelet because we were too young. But after you guys found it, she came back for us. She had left us with a friend of hers that was human."
"Did you guys ever find your mom?" I asked.
Kasdar shook his head and bitterly said. "No. We never looked for her. She made her choice and left."
"Maybe she had a good reason." I replied.
"Well I don't care."
My eyes widened and I looked away, shocked. He had never sounded so harsh.
Kasdar sighed. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine."
"Anyway, she came back and told us her plan. How it was ruined. And how she needed our help. So we could be friends with you guys and try to take back the bracelet. We were hesitant at first but come on, anyone would have done it! Take a bracelet and a book and try to bring back your dead parents. Then return the objects back. It was simple and harmless"
"The day I lied about looking for Kameron because we had a project, we were trying to break into your room and take the things."
I nodded. "But I still don't understand how King Jared got involved."
Kasdar nodded. "We never worked for him. Neither did Tori. She hated him. She is a Lari after all. But he some how found out about us. And he wanted us. He threatened to kill Tori if Kasey and I didn't co-operate. We couldn't lose her. She was our family. And after they invaded they took Tori and Kasey away and threatened to harm them if I told anyone anything until he did the spell on me and Kasey."
"I understand."
"That's not all." Kasdar said. He looked at me with a determined look.
"You ripped the page from The Older Twin that he needed, the instructions but he suspected that it involved twins. He was going to use Kate to get to Kameron but then he found out about us. As you know twins are naturally very powerful and plus we were offsprings of a Malign and unlike Charis, we could actually do magic."
I nodded finally starting to understand.
"When he read the paper, he was sure and he tried doing the spell."
"Wait what?! He did the spell already?!"
"No he tried doing it. Yesterday, but it failed. It wouldn't work."
At this I frowned. "Why not?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. But he was very angry. But then this morning he found something. I was with him but he wouldn't tell me but he seemed really happy. Like really bad happy."
I nodded. "But why are you suddenly telling me all this? Won't he harm Tori and Kasey?" I asked suddenly worried.
Kasdar shrugged and gave me a weak smile. "He said not to tell anyone until he did the spell on us. He did and failed."
We sat there in silence, lost in our own thoughts. I felt sad that we were so harsh to Kasdar. He only wanted his dad back and wouldn't I have done the same if I were in his position?
And wouldn't I have done the same to protect the people I love? That's all he did. No one could honestly blame him.
At the end of the day, it was King Jared's fault.
And he will pay.
