Chapter 22: Keeping Secrets And Deathly Spells
I sipped on my coke as Gomin and I ate lunch at McDonalds.
"So do we tell Danny?" I asked.
Gomin shrugged. "I think we should. He won't be happy if we keep this from him. And it's not like he's a traitor."
I nodded. I wanted to tell Danny but I didn't want him to be at any risk because he knew information, not after what happened three years ago.
"Mickey, I hope you won't ever hide anything like this again." Gomin said.
I nodded. "I'm really sorry about that."
Gomin gave me his goofy smile. He wasn't one to hold a grudge for long. "All good as long as there are no more secrets. We tell each other everything!"
"Ok."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
He took a huge bite from his burger and smiled with his mouth full.
Rolling my eyes, I laughed. "So what do you think we should do?"
"Stark suggested we keep an eye on Kasdar and Kasey. We can't let them out of our sight."
I groaned. "Fine."
Gomin laughed. "Maybe they aren't working for King Jared. We can't be sure."
"Exactly so we can't just ignore that fact because we aren't sure if they are on our side. Gomin, we can't make the same mistake. Three times."
"I understand, it's just not something believable."
"So was Robby betraying us but here we are today." I pointed out, taking a bite of my happy meals.
"But Robby had a reason." Gomin put his hands up when he noticed my pointed look. "I'm not saying what he did was ok, I'm just saying he really wanted to get Rodger. Mickey, those two were really really close and King Jared used him."
I stayed silent for sometime, thinking this over. I never really thought of it that way because every time I think about Robby, all I can think is of how he betrayed us for the enemy and got Kate killed.
"He could have found a better way." I muttered.
Gomin nodded. "I know."
"Hey guys. What's up?" Danny said, taking a seat next to me.
I looked at Gomin and he gave me a curt nod. Sighing, I repeated the story I had to tell my friends and then the royalties as they wanted to hear it again from me, Gomin and Stark.
*************
"So wanna go out to dinner?" Hilary asked me as we walked to our first class.
Davis pouted. "I thought it was going to be just the two of us."
I rolled my eyes. "Feeling the love here Davis, too much I might suffocate."
Davis stuck his tongue out at me and I returned the favor.
"You guys are so immature." Hilary commented. "Anyway, invite Gomin and Danny and lets go out. 7 pm."
I shrugged. "Good enough for me."
Hilary gave me a bright smile. "Great. See you later then." I waved them goodbye and they walked away.
I sighed. I missed spending time with her. I've been so caught up with King Jared and stuff that I haven't been going out much.
I grabbed the books I needed and headed to my first class.
After school was over, Gomin, Danny and I went over to my place and planned to go to dinner together and meet up with Hilary and Davis there.
"Mickey, Mickey we need your help." Jace said as soon as I opened the door.
"Well first I need to use the bathroom and breath so can I pass?"
Janet rolled her eyes. "This is important."
Sighing, I walked to the living room and everyone followed. "What's so important?" I asked, taking a seat on the floor.
"Well the thing is." Jace started, rubbing the back of his head.
"We kinda blew up the chemistry lab." Janet finished.
I groaned as the boys laughed. "Seriously? How?"
"The teacher said that it was a safe experiment and there was no way anything could blow up." Janet explained.
"So you decided to blow it up?" Gomin questioned, looking amused.
" Gomin you should have seen his face! He was literally challenging us!" Jace defended.
"No he was reassuring you that nothing can go wrong." I said.
Danny frowned. "If the teacher was positive that there wasn't going to be an exploding, how did you manage to blow something up?"
Jace and Janet looked at each other before they turned their attention back to us and shrugged. "We simply just rock." They simultaneously replied.
I shook my head. "How come you still haven't been kicked out of school?" I muttered although I knew the answer to that. The twins might be trouble makers but they were also geniuses.
"At least it's not that bad. I mean, your school isn't under construction or anything." I said.
"Actually that's not all that happened." Jace said.
Oh my gosh, what now?
"You see, we kinda started a fire and the teacher told us to get the fire extinguisher. " Janet explained.
I raised my eye brows. "You started a fire. Great!"
"And when the teacher told us to get the fire extinguisher, we said no." Jace went on.
"What? Why?"
They both shrugged. "We just took out marshmallows and placed it on one of the equipments and ya...." Janet trailed off.
The boys and I started at them, completely awestruck.
"What the heck were you thinking? There was a dangerous fire and you decided to make marshmallows! Are you out of your mind!" I screamed.
Gomin raised his hands and I shot him a glare. "What?"
He looked at the twins. "Where did you even get marshmallows?"
"We carry it in our bag." They simultaneously replied.
Danny frowned. "Why?"
They had no reply.
"You two are weird." Both Danny and Gomin said at the same time then looked at each other with a look of horror.
I sighed. "I have a headache."
"Mom and Dad are going to kill us. You have to help!" Jace said.
I shrugged. "Sorry buddies. Nothing I can do here."
They both glared at me before hurrying out of sight.
"You have very interesting siblings." Danny muttered.
I rolled my eyes. "Lets just get ready and go. I'm hungry."
***********
"I just can't seem to get the hang of this one." I said, pointing at one of the many words on the page.
Jemin didn't reply and I looked up at him. We were currently on one of my magic lessons but he hasn't been into it at all. He seemed very distracted and I had to repeat myself twice before he acknowledged me.
"Jemin, is everything ok?" I asked.
Jemin looked towards me. "Sorry, what was that?"
Sighing, I closed the spell book and faced him. "Ok, spill. What's going on?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
I rolled my eyes. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You've been distracted during this whole lesson and that's never happened even once before."
Jemin sighed. "It's just stress."
I bit my lips, knowing he was lying to me but I decided not to push him. "Want to talk about it?"
"Mickey, are you sure he had The Older Twin?"
"Ya I'm sure. You saw the piece of paper I ripped out. I'm sure, and I know you are too, that there is no book bearing this kind of information."
Jemin nodded before sighing. "I need to tell you something."
"Ya?"
"Look as we all discussed we need to keep an eye on Kasdar and Kasey. But incase we fail and King Jared does happen to find them or any other twins, we need a backup plan."
I leaned forward, suddenly interested. "What have you got in mind?"
Jemin bit his lips. "Mickey, it's dangerous."
I rolled my eyes. "This whole situation is dangerous."
"It's a spell."
"What?" I asked when he didn't elaborate.
"There is one spell that can help. Undo the spell he'll have on the twins."
"What?! That's great! What is it? Where did you even find it?" I asked
"I'm very old Mickey. I've gathered information and I'm 100% sure it'll work but..." He trailed off
"But what?! That's perfect! Just tell me and I can also tell Stark and so many others. Of course they have to be trusted or else they might tell Jared we have a way to stop him but it can all work out! This is perfect." I stopped to take a deep breath.
"Mickey, you can't tell anyone about the spell! No one must attempt it." Jemin fiercely said.
I blinked a couple of times, confused. "I don't understand. Why do you look so scared?"
Jemin sighed. "Mickey it's a powerful spell and if you....if you try to use it, it will kill you."
The silence following Jemins statement was deafening.
"What do you mean it'll kill me?"
"It's so powerful that it will demand all your powers. You will be able to break the spell on the twins long enough for them to kill King Jared or escape but you will die."
I slowly swallowed the bile rising up my throat. "But it'll work for sure."
"Ya."
"Wait what if I use the bracelet?" I suddenly exclaimed.
Jemin looked at me, surprised. "Mickey, that might actually work."
I beamed. "That way I can do the spell and survive."
"Well we can't be sure. I mean, you can use the magic from the bracelet to help you but we can't be sure."
"You can't tell anyone about this Jemin! If they find out, they'll never let me do it."
Jemin nodded. "I know."
"So don't even mention the spell and if it comes down to it, I'll do it without telling them the....setback."
"It's still dangerous."
I sighed. "Well if it comes down to it, I'm willing to do it."
"It won't. And I'll try to find another way."
I nodded, barely paying any attention. "Lets just hope it doesn't come down to it."
***************
I glanced behind me, making sure no one was around before I opened the door and slowly closed it behind me.
'No more secrets.' Gomin had said. I guess this is one promise I'll have to break.
I pushed aside the small drawer and closed my eyes. I muttered a spell under my breath and the wall suddenly opened, revealing a small box. I quickly picked it up and opened it.
Inside The Great Book and the bracelet were sitting in there, safely and securely placed.
I sighed, lightly tracing my finger over the bracelet. If the worst happens, this little thing was the difference between life and death, literally.
Closing my eyes I sighed, I had a very bad feeling that after this, everything was going to go downhill real fast.
