Chapter 17: The Orb
"Hey Miranda, didn't you say that you would be meeting up with your friends?" King Destin asked.

"Yup." she replied.

"Well, your dismissed so you can go." he said.

She squinted her eyes and gave him a suspicious look. "Ok?" she said. She said bye to all of us and left.

"Ok. I didn't want her to be here...well she's only 13. I wouldn't want Mickey here either but..., its about the prophecy." King Destin said.

"Oh."I said. I didn't know what else to say.

"Look, Robby will be 19 not long from now..." King Destin began but was interrupted by Tara.

"Ha not really. Uh he's birthday is not that near."she said nervously casting her eyes towards me.

I sighed. "His birthday is on January 12."

Sorak gasped. "Who told you?"

"That's not important. You should have told me." I said, suddenly feeling angry.

"We're sorry. But we didn't want to pressure you." Tara explained.

I took a deep breath. "Ok. Anyway, what were you saying Destin?" I asked.

"Well it's almost his birthday and well...we need to find a solution. The only person who can help is Mickey and she's 14. In 5 years she will be gone as well and we won't be able to do anything." he said.

The room grew silent. "Well, just in case we don't fix it, is it possible that maybe the people of Charilot can have the Laringtons or Carsims as their rulers?" James asked. He suddenly seemed interested.

King Philip sighed. "You know that's not possible. The spell that Charlotte made..."

Queen Linda looked at me. "Do you know what to do?" she asked.

I looked down. I couldn't tell them about the letters or the bracelet. I didn't want to take the chance.

"I don't. But I heard about The Great Book and I was wondering, maybe there might be a spell that can get Sinaya and Rodger back and stop this curse." I said.

"Oh ya. The Great Book. But it's been missing for a very long time. There isn't a living person today whose ever even seen it." Queen Ella said.

"And even if we did find it, we still need the bracelet which has been lost ever since the Malign made the curse." Sorak said.

"Well...we have another problem." Kind Destin said.

"What problem?" Tara asked.

"The Orb." King Destin said.

Everyone suddenly looked scared. I was confused because I didn't know what that was.

"Can someone please explain what that is?" I asked.

"The Orb is an object that we created. It's used to see if there was balance between good and evil." Queen Linda said.

"I don't get it."

"Ok. It's this circular object. Half is red which represents the evil and half is white which represents the good." James said.

"Ok." I replied.

"Before the war, the red side became bigger and we were worried. We ended up almost losing and a prophecy was made. But it started to subside and the white and red became equal again." Queen Ella said.

"But now...we have a problem." King Destin said.

"What problem?" Jordan asked.

"It's better if I show you." he said getting up.

"Wait, The Orb is located here?" I asked, also getting up.

"Ya. It's on the 6th floor. It's locked inside a room and has a password and you need to be of a royal family of the Larington, Charis or Carsims to get access. It reads your thumb print." Jordan explained.

"Oh wow." I said. That's a bit crazy.

"Ya ya. It's crazy. But everyone insists. Since we have a bad habit of losing stuff." James said.

I laughed. We all followed King Destin and Queen Linda to the 6th floor and to a door. It was a plain brown door except it had many locks with passwords and a print scanner to one side. Destin put in the password.

Apparently everyone in the royal family knows it and so they also told me what it was. Then he put is thumb on the scanner and the door finally opened.

The room was dark. As soon as we stepped in, the lights turned on. It was an empty room. The walls were plain white and there wasn't a single furniture except for a big glowing orb. It was on top of a scepter. The scepter was pure gold and huge. It was built to stand straight and was implanted on the floor.

And there was more red color than white.

Queen Ella gasped. "What's this mean? " she asked

"I don't know. Last time this happened, we almost lost a war and were betrayed by our own." King Philip said.

"Wait, what? Who betrayed you?" I asked, shocked.

"A Carsim. He was a warrior and the best fighter we had. But he was working for the Maligns. We almost lost because of him." King Philip said, bitterly.

I was shocked.

"So does this mean....there will be another war?" Jordan asked, looking scared. James put his arms around her shoulder.

"I doubt that...." Sorak said.

"Then....maybe we have a spy among us?" King Philip said.

"Maybe it's-" James started.
"If your about to say who I think you'll say, then don't waste your breath." Sorak said, giving James a stern look.

James put his hand, the one that wasn't around Jordan shoulder, up.

"I'm just saying it might be him."

"Well, it's not." Tara said.

"That's what we said about Sam and look what happened." James argued.

"Whose Sam?" I asked.

"He's the Carsim that betrayed us." Queen Ella said, looking sad.

"Ok. And who is James talking about?" I asked.

"Stark." James replied.

I stood there, shocked.

"What?!" I exclaimed. "Why would you even think that. Stark would never do that. He hates the Damtals and Maligns." I was furious. I trusted Stark. He would never do that.

"The reason James thinks that is, well Sam...he was Starks father." King Destin said.

"W-wh-what?" I stammered

"Ya." Queen Ella said.

I though back to when I asked him if there were any bad Carsims. He looked mad. And a little sad. Oh no.

"But that doesn't mean anything." I defended.

"Hey, I have nothing against Stark. I like the guy. I'm just saying, maybe." James said.

"Well either way, we need to solve this." King Philip said.

I was back home. After checking The Orb, we went back to the meeting room but came up with no solution. We finally gave up and called it a day.

It was 8pm and everyone was tired so they were already in their bedrooms.
I've been thinking about mom and dad, Sadie and Rob, and the twins. I missed them. I had already told mom and dad to text me two days before Christmas since I'm not sure when it was. I decided to call them.

We talked for a long time. Jace and Janet were sad that I left without saying goodbye but were happy that I found a relative. My heart broke when they said that even if they weren't my blood relatives, they loved me more that anyone else could.

I was sad and felt homesick after the call.

That's when I decided that I needed to talk to Hilary and Danny.

I made a group chat.

~Hi guys. Miss you so much. How is school?~Mickey~

After 5 minutes Hialry texted.

~Oh my gosh!! It's been like forever girl. How are you? Miss you too! School is crazy but today was the last day! Yay~Hilary~

I laughed. I truly missed Hilary and her never ending stories.

~Hahah. That's good news.~Mickey~

~Yup. Give me a second. I'm going to call Danny and tell him to come and chat with us~Hilary~

~Ok~Mickey~

I was really nervous. I thought about the fight I had with Danny and felt guilty but I didn't know what to do.
That's when I got a text.

~Hi~Danny~

~Danny boy! Missed you~Mickey~

~Miss you too~Danny~

~What? No one misses me?~Hilary~

~I see you everyday. I wish you can leave. Maybe I'll miss you then~Danny~

~As sweet as ever~Hilary~

I laughed. I was so happy Danny was talking to me. So I decided to send him a private message.

~Danny boy?~

~Hi~

~How are you?~

~Look. About the last time we talked. I'm really sorry~

I instantly felt guilty all over again. He keeps apologizing but it's all my fault.

~Don't be sorry. I'm sorry for lying~

~It's fine. I miss you~

~I miss you too. And you can never be replaced.~

~I know ;)~

~Your so modest~

~Of course~

I sighed, relived. I got a text from the group chat.

~So Mickey and Danny ditched me. I bet you guys are talking on private chat~Hilary~

~Ugh. I thought you left~Danny~

We talked some more then I said good bye and left.

It was 10pm and I was bored. I wasn't even sleepy. I started thinking about the prophecy. I was scared. I wonder how Robby feels?

He has been avoiding us and barely talks to us. I decided to go and talk to him.

I quietly made my way to his room, hoping he was still awake.

I softly knocked. I waited but didn't hear anything. I was about to leave when the door silently opened. And there stood Robby in his PJs.

"Mickey? Why are you still up?" he asked, confused.

"Couldn't sleep. Mind if I come in?." I asked

"Of course. Of course." he said, stepping sideways to let me through. It was dark. We lit a lamp and sat crossed leg on the bed.

"Soooo...why did you come here?" asked Robby.

"I missed you, Robby. You've become distant." I said.

"Oh. Ya." he said, scratching the back of his head.

"Robby. Why?"

"I-I've just been busy."

"Robby. I'm your sister. You can trust me."

He looked at me for a few seconds then sagged his shoulders. "I-I'm scared."

"Why?"

"It's almost my birthday and well..." he trailed off

"Robby. I understand that your scared. I am too. But that doesn't mean you have to be distant. You have to talk to us, let us comfort you. Would you have been happy if Rodger ignored you before he left?"

"No." he replied, barely above a whisper.

"Exactly."

He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. Your right."

"Don't be sorry. It's understandable."

"Thank you. It means a lot, you coming here."

I smiled.

"I'm so happy your back."

I chuckled. "You always say that."

"I know but I'm just so happy."

"I am too."

We talked all night about everything and anything. He told me how close Sinaya and Kate were, in an 'she's my annoying little sister I hate her' and 'she's my older sister and I live to make her miserable' way. And how devastated Kate was when Sianaya disappeared.

It was very late when we started to drift off to sleep. I didn't have energy to go to my room so I just fell asleep right there.
