Thirty-Six
Chapter Thirty-Six
Jealousy
Braxton was taking longer than I expected.
I looked down at my grocery bag and smiled, I had decided to make dinner for us tonight, but not just any dinner...Braxton's favorite childhood meal according to his mother. Meatball subs.
It seemed like a simple meal, but she told me all about how much he use to love them growing up, and I wanted to bring that little bit of nostalgia back for him.
I looked across the street and saw the Boyd Law Firm that Braxton said he would be at and as much I wanted to look around at the other little shops I really did need to find him and get this meat refrigerated before it went bad.
I walked across the street and let myself into the building. A raven haired beauty probably close in age to myself smiled at me and greeted me upon entry.
"I'm just waiting on my boyfri- I mean my Fiancé." I corrected myself with a laugh, "I'm still adjusting to that." I admitted.
"No problem," She smiled "Mister Ocklan?"
I nodded.
"He is back in the office...would you care to join him?"
I shook my head, "Oh no, I'd hate to interrupt them...I know he had business to tend to...if you don't mind, could I just wait out here."
"Of course, please make yourself comfortable, can I get you something to drink, we have water, coffee, and bottle green tea." She offered kindly.
"I'll take a water please."
She nodded once again and smiled before getting up to go over to a door, she disappear and brought me a bottle of water.
I thanked her and waited quietly. After what was probably 5 minutes I got on my phone and scrolled through memes.
Those familiar butterflies began to stir within me and I knew My Braxton was close by, I watched as he walked out of a door with a jawdropping blonde bombshell.
This girl was older than me for sure, there was something so elgantly luxurious about her as she seemed to radiate opulance and grace. She was tall like Elise so I had no doubts that she was a Were, her blonde hair fell down her back carefully in well placed blowdried curls.
I watched as Braxton hugged her and then took it upon himself to kiss her, and not just once. He held her face in his hands in a caring fashion as he said something, but I was too pissed to hear what he said.
Quick business, my ass...I was livid.
It was then that he turned and saw me, a look of concern filled his face as he looked at me, I knew his wolf would pick up on my mood...damn werewolf mark.
I tried to play it cool, last thing I would do was lose my shit in front of this woman.
"You all ready to go?" He asked sweetly.
I nodded and let him lead me out of the building.
Unfortunately the little town was apparantly part of Braxton's pack so the people that filled the streets greeted us both very graciously. And as upset as I might have been I could never direspect them.
I walked all the way to the car without so much as word to him and even opened my own door when I reached the car.
I knew myself well enough to know that I was too hurt and emotional to speak to him rationally without yelling or crying because I was so hurt. So once I was in the car I put the bags on the back seat, pulled on my sunglasses and buckled up before I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.
He drove with the music low and only tried to get my attention once when he called my name but I didn't respond.
Too bad the drive wasn't longer, as soon, we had reached the lake house.
As I felt the car stop I pushed up my sunglasses and even though I wasn't really asleep the light that touched my eyes made me squint.
I moved to grab the bags and he stopped me. "I'll get them, let me come around and get your door."
"I got it." I sounded a little grumpily.
"Something wrong?"
I looked at him. "Braxton, how would you feel if I let a guy hug me, kiss my cheeks...no... how would you react if I hugged another guy and kissed his cheeks."
His eyes began to black out, "You're my mate!" He growled a low menacing growl.
My eyes teared up a little, "exactly." I said as I got out of the car.
I needed him to see how emotional he'd get over me interacting with a guy in a more than friendly manor is the exact same way I am feeling right now.
He had the keys to the house so I made my way out back, the fresh air would do me some good.
"Harper." He sounded as he followed behind me. I knew he was upset now. But due to his long legs he reached me before we could even reach the front of the house. "Why would you say that to me, do you like seeing me get upset?"
"Do you like seeing me upset?" I countered.
"What are you talking about?"
"I saw you Braxton, I sat there and watched as my new fiance openly hugged another woman as well as kissed her...twice!"
"Harper I didn't-"
"The blonde at the law office." I clarified. "And I know you only have 2 cousins so don't you dare try and give me some bullshit line that she's family because that's not how this works Braxton."
"Gorgeous, calm down, Ivy is an old friend and I have never done anything with her nor have I ever wanted to...other than being Ryder's ex-girlfriend as much as you don't want to hear it my love, The Boyd's are like family as they have always been business associates."
"Did we go into town today specifically for her?"
He shook his head, "I did go because I had business with her but not to see her specifically no, no...Ivy is my attorney and I had to sign off on a ton of paperwork, I figured since we were here in town I could get it out of the way so we could enjoy the rest of the day without me having to work on something for once."
"That may be true and I do believe you Braxton but I am telling you now...The next time you find yourself in that situation, alone with a female, put yourself in my shoes and think to yourself, 'how would I fell if Harper did this?' And if the reaction pisses you off then just don't do it."
He didn't say anything and we just stood there.
"Could you please unlock the door so I can start making this dinner already...I just want to get this day over with."
"Are you still upset with me...I am sorry that I disrespected you Gorgeous, you as my mate should never have to feel jealous as you are above anyone else in the world for me."
I sighed, "I am still mad, but now I'm more upset with myself for over reacting...I-I just really want to be alone right now."
"Please don't be mad at yourself Harper, you reacted like anyone would have reacted, I should have used better judgment or even introduced you to her and that is my fault."
"Braxton...the door, please." I sighed.
He obliged me by unlocking and opening the door for me, I took the bags from him and made my way into the kitchen. I put my purse down and fished out my cellphone and earbuds before I put on my saddest music and began cooking his favorite dish.
I watched him as he let himself into the kitchen and just sat at the bar while I worked. Neither of us said anything but both of us knew we needed the other one near in order to calm down.
As I finished up the meal I plated up the food and handed him his before I joined him at the bar where I set my plate down and took out my earbuds.
"This looks good." He said.
"Thank You, I hope you like it." I replied before we ate in silence.
But as I wasn't mad at him I couldn't go without touching him in some form, I reached out and grabbed his hand.
"I'm sorry I went full jealous psycho on you...you're my first everything and the one thing I've always been terrified of is for you to also be my first Heartache."
"Harper my Gorgeous I will do everything in my power to make sure that never happens."
"I know...and I love you."
"I love you more." He said.
After that everything seemed to go back to usual, and that night as we laid in bed together I couldn't imagine my life without him in it.
