Brightpaw stood under the high-ledge, shaking the remaining droplets of cold lake-water from her gray pelt, showering Crystalpaw who had slunk over. 

"Gah! watch it, heron-brain!" She snapped indignantly. She turned around, shaking out her own white-and-gray-splashed pelt, anger blazing in her unusually colored violet eyes. "Oh, it's you. You're having your warrior ceremony? Congratulations!" The long-haired she-cat mewed, her annoyed glare softening when she recognized her best friend. They had recently figured out that they were kin, as Crystalpaw was the kit of Brightpaw's mother's brother, Addertail, and his mate Wingbreeze. Brightpaw's own mother, Cloudmist had died when she accidentally drank water from a stream that was tainted with twoleg toxins. Brightpaw had once felt slight resentment at Crystalpaw and her mentor Willowshine who was quite elderly and needed to retire, for not being able to save her mother, but when she knew that it wasn't their fault and there was nothing they could do, Brightpaw let go of her anger and forgave them. Now, she and Crystalpaw were best friends.

Reedstar poked his black muzzle through the lichen curtaining the cave that formed the leader's den. 

"Well, well, well, looks like there's going to be a ceremony." He mewed, arching his back and stretching. "Congratulations, young ones." he yawned drowsily.

"We are waiting, Reedstar, in case you haven't noticed, oh great and hardworking leader." Crystalpaw pointed out acidly, sarcasm dripping from her voice. The leader bounded up the high-ledge. 

"Today is a joyful day! The daughter of my youngest sister is to become a warrior. Along with that, Crystalpaw, The daughter of my youngest brother and his worthy mate, May they be forever watching over us in StarClan, has eared her full medicine cat rank. StarClan has approved her! We shall feast, but the ceremony comes first." He mewed proudly. "Brightpaw, from this moment, will be known as Brightstream. StarClan honors her speed and intelligence. Crystalpaw, we shall now know as Crystalheart. StarClan honors her wisdom and prodigious memory."
