Chapter 18.4
I visited Seb whenever I could, hoping that he would wake up sooner rather than later. It was kind of useful having Ed around the house- he was surprisingly good at cooking, but I had had to lock the door to the basement, so he wouldn't find out about Seb and my other life. That unfortunately meant that I wasn't able to use any guns. I tried to prevent boredom, however, by seeing Seb, or teasing Edward. I texted Aliona a few times, but as she was at school I was unable to have a proper chat with her.
I was sitting in Seb's room in the hospital, when the door opened, and a man slipped in. I didn't look up- it was probably a doctor or someone.
"Oh, hello, Kirsty." he said, the familiar Irish accent jolting me back into reality.
"Jim?" I asked, amazed. "So who was shot? On Bart's roof? Five months ago?"
"I did. At least, I meant to. But the bullet was a blank, I must have grabbed the wrong gun. I hit my head falling from the rebound, and that created the blood. It convinced Sherlock Holmes, anyway."
I nodded.
"You mustn't tell anyone I'm alive." Jim said. "not for another year or so, at least."
"A year?" I asked, incredulously.
"And even when Seb and Aliona can know, the rest of the world cannot."
"Ok." I said, having decided not to ask. Jim would tell me if he wanted to.
"Can't Seb know, though? As soon as he wakes up? It's slowly killing him." I said.
"No. Talking about killing him, who was the gunman?"
Seb may someday forgive Edward, but I knew Jim would thirst for his blood, so I lied. "I don't know."
"Hmm. Well, I can't stay here for long, someone else may recognise me." And with that Moriarty disappeared.
A month later, Seb woke up. Eddie and I were at his side as soon as we could.
"Ed.. Mind leaving us alone for a while?" Seb asked.
"I... Yes. Sure." Edward said.
As soon he left the room, Seb turned to me. "He shot me, yes?" I nodded. "So what made you trust him? Not kill him?" Seb asked.
I shrugged.
"He didn't even kill me." Seb smiled. "We're going to have to improve his gun skills."
"Yeah." I said, realising that Seb had forgiven Ed already.
"You know, I had the weirdest dream." Seb admitted. "Jim was here." he said slightly longingly. "I guess it was just that: a dream."
"Yes." I said, wishing I could tell him the truth.
"Get Ed in here." Seb said.
I fetched him. "I'm sorry, Sebastian, really, I am." Ed said, as soon as he walked in.
"For starters, don't call me Sebastian. It's Seb. And also, the only thing you should apologise for is failing when it came to shooting straight. I'll have to teach you how to use a gun correctly."
"You're not angry?" he asked.
"No, amazingly." Seb said.
As soon as Seb was allowed out of hospital, he set about teaching Edward how to shoot.
After that, although Ed moved back into his flat in the centre of London, he actually visited us quite a bit, once he passed his (fourth) driving test.
