Chapter Thirteen
Paisleys pov
I wake up for a slight second, doctors are hovering over me. Their hands moving around expertly, some are touching my legs, some are right beside my head examining me. I'm numb all around, the only thing I can feel is the fingers on my right hand, and my eyelids when I blink. That's all.
I try to breath through my mouth, but there's something in my throat, stopping me from getting air. I begin to freak out. I start coughing, gagging, choking, all of it, I can't breath. My vision starts to go blurry, the doctors are yelling now, but I can't pick up what they are saying.
Probably something about me needing more of that sleeping medicine or whatever it's called.
"Breath through your nose." I hear someone say to me, their voice is one of power, so I instantly obey. I'm glad I did, because my vision cleared for a slight moment. However, when I felt the prick of a needle a minute later, everything went blurry again. And it was getting darker and darker by the second.
"How's the boy?" I hear faintly.
"Slowly improving, though I'm not so sure about her." He says, that's the last thing I hear before darkness fully consumes me.
Luke's pov
"Is he okay?" I hear a familiar voice ask. No doubt it's about me.
Yes, I'm okay.
I try and speak, but no sound comes out. I try and move but I'm stuck, I can't even open my eyes. I'm just stuck in a world of darkness, I can hear, and smell, but that's all. It's already making me mad and I've only been like this for about a minute. Wait... Why am I like this anyways?
"He'll be okay, he's just in shock." Another voice says, this time it's unfamiliar, I'm guessing it's the doctors voice. Why am I in shock?
"What about her?" The boy replies, now I realize that it's Ashton. His voice can be recognized anywhere, he's like a talking kangaroo. Seriously.
"Well... We're not entirely sure." The doctor delays. Who is he talking about? "We think she'll be alright, but it's to soon to tell whether or not the surgery will be effective." He speaks.
"Do you have to preform all of the surgeries right now?" Ashton asks, I can tell by the way his words were choked up, that he was about to cry. What is going on?
"I'm afraid so, Mr.Irwin... Ms.Leigh has suffered some serious damage to her body, she might not be able to fully recover if we let her wait it out. There is a high risk of infection, and with her injuries, she might not be able to fight it off." The doctor speaks. That last name sounds familiar.
Then I get a flash back.
"I... I love you too- LUKE!"
The voice sounds familiar, but I can't pinpoint exactly why. But at that sound, and at that memory, I grow sad.
I feel tears collect in my closed eyes, I try and force them open, luckily, this time it works. The doctor doesn't seem to notice, but Ashton does immediately.
"Luke!" He yells, running over to my bedside and lightly hugging me. I can tell he wants to hug me properly, but the machines hooked up to me are stopping him from doing anything further then what he just did.
"Are you okay?" He asks. I nod my head.
We sit there, just staring at eachother for a little while, probably like fifteen minutes before I speak up.
"C-can. I h-have some w-water?" I stutter due to my throat being so damn dry. How long was I even out for?
Ashton nods and immediately rushes out. Five minutes later, he returns, Calum and Michael behind him. There is also an unfamiliar girl beside Calum, quite pretty, seems like the type of girl Calum or Ashton would date. If Ashton dated a girl anyways. He kind of confused me, one minute he hates girls and only likes guys, then the next minute he's grinding against some big àssed, big boobed, horny chick.
"Oh thank god." Calum sighs, walking over to me and grabbing my hand.
"Don't you ever do that shît to me again." He says sternly, slapping my arm lightly and glaring at me.
"Alright, alright. Now when can I leave?" I laugh, looking up at the doctor who has just entered the room. Calum gapes at me and pulls away, then looks at ashton with worry written across his features.
"Luke, what exactly do you think happened earlier?" Michael asks, them all gathering in the middle of the room and staring down at me. I feel like a baby, trapped in their crib while the parents, friends, and family stare back.
"I- I don't know. I went outside to go do some stuff, I remember a voice, a girls voice. She said she loved me, but then screamed my name and pushed me. And then I woke up here." I say, confusing myself, and the rest of them. That's all I remember. But I feel like there's something I don't remember, or I don't know.
"He... He doesn't remember her doc?" Calum asks. Some tears start coming down his face, that unfamiliar girl pulls him into a hug to try and stop them from falling.
"I guess not, it might just be temporary though. Give it a couple hours." The doctor replies, then he leaves the room.
"You don't remember Paisley?" Ashton asks sadly, he sits down beside me. I sigh.
"Of course I remember Paisley, you don't need to bring the past up. What does she have to do with any of this anyways? Whatever this is?" I jumble all my words together, trying not to cry. Why would he suddenly bring her up, he knew I missed her and wanted to see her.
"Oh god.. Okay umm... What was the last thing you remember clearly from yesterday?" Ashton asks me, I glance around the room, trying to think of everything that happened.
"We were getting off the plane, we were going to do a show here in Manitoba." I say, nodding to myself.
"Okay, what happened after that?" Ashton questions.
"We drove to the stadium, I cried because I was nervous to see Paisley. I didn't see her in the first half, but then after a song or two I saw her standing beside Jocelyn. Then we finished and I went straight to the dressing room..." I begin, but that's when it hits me.
Every little thing.
"Oh my god paisley! Is she okay? Where is she? What happened to her? Is she dead?" I yell, sitting up in my bed and frantically trying to get up to find paisley. Ashton forces me back down, then presses the button for the nurse to come in.
As I lay there, pinned to the sheets by my best friend, I feel my heart beating rapidly.
That's what the doctor was talking about earlier. He was talking about Paisley.
"He'll be okay, he's just in shock."
"What about her?" Ashton asks.
"Well... We're not entirely sure." The doctor delays. "We think she'll be alright, but it's to soon to tell whether or not the surgery will be effective." He speaks.
"Do you have to preform all of the surgeries right now?"
"I'm afraid so, Mr.Irwin... Ms.Leigh has suffered some serious damage to her body, she might not be able to fully recover if we let her wait it out. There is a high risk of infection, and with her injuries, she might not be able to fight it off."
"Hello Luke, how are you feeling?!" A very cheery nurse speaks to me.
"Fine, how's paisley?" I brush her off, getting straight to the point.
"She's going to be fine." She tells me. That's not what the doctor said, but I'll believe her.
"Thank god." I sigh, sinking lower into my bed and exhaling deeply.
She's going to be okay.
My baby is going to be okay.
