Chapter 22: In the Center Ring

This is a pretty long chap. Hope it makes up for the long wait! Just letting you know. Enjoy!

Third Person POV

Robin woke up slowly, cracking his eyes open a tiny bit to allow them to get used to the light. He had finally regained his normal sleep schedule - much to his friends delight - and had started eating regularly. The teen still hadn't had any luck in finding his missing brother and neither had his former mentor. It stumped both of them. How was it that there was no sign of him anywhere? Surely he had to have been found by someone by this point and contacted authorities. That is... unless he was...

No, Robin wouldn't think like that. Danny was out there somewhere alive. And he was going to find him no matter what.

The raven haired teen climbed out of bed and headed into the main room where his friends were already waiting. Beast Boy had set up a red curtain in front of the kitchen area and had pulled the couch and a few tables near it. Raven sat on the couch reading a book accompanied by Starfire. Cyborg chuckled in amusement as he watched the green skinned teen struggle to push a bathtub in front of the red curtain. Robin went over to the couch and sat beside Cyborg. Leaning towards his friend Robin asked, "What's this all about?"

"No idea." Cyborg replied with a smile. "But he's been at it all morning. He moved the bathtub all by himself."

"Couldn't he just transform to make it easier to move?" Robin questioned not bothering to ask why Beast Boy would want to move the bathtub to the main room. In response, Cyborg shushed him and continued to laugh at Beast Boy's struggles. Robin folded his arms on the table in front of him and rested his head on top. Behind his mask, Robin felt his eyelids grow heavy and he soon was snoring.

Once Beast Boy had finally gotten the bathtub to where he wanted it, he hopped in and held up a sign. Written on it were the words 'Beast Boy's All Star Prop Comedy Revue' in a funny font. Beast Boy repeated the title out loud, welcoming everyone to his performance. He lowered the sign back into the bathtub and began his routine. "I know what you're thinking," he began, " there's nothing more annoying than when you can't play your tuba in the bathtub." He smiled and looked out to his audience.

Robin was fast asleep on the table, Cyborg was no longer laughing and Raven simply continued reading her book. As Cyborg's head fell back against the couch and he groaned Raven commented, without looking up from her book, "More annoying than this?"

"SHHHHH!!! " Starfire said as she bounced up and down in front of the tables. "Please, continue!!" She said eagerly to Beast Boy.

Said teen was now wearing scuba goggles and had a mouthpiece attached to a long leadpipe in front of his face. "Well," he started, "that won't be a problem if you have a tuborkel!" Beast Boy lifted a large tuba out of the bathtub and held it up so everyone could see. "Get it? It's part tuba, part snorkel! Tuborkel! Huh? Well?" He took a deep breath and began to play while Robin and Cyborg continued to doze. Starfire cheered him on and Raven sunk lower on the couch.

Just then, a loud alarm sounded, waking the two sleeping Titans and bringing the others to attention. Everyone, save for Beast Boy, stood in front of the screen on the tower's large window  looking at the flashing red letters as a mechanical voice announced, "Intruder alert. Intruder alert."

Cyborg turned and smiled, pumping his fist. "All right!" He exclaimed, "We're under attack!" Beast Boy got out of the bathtub and frowned at Cyborg as the scuba goggles fell off his face. The Titans readied their powers for their approaching intruder and were soon greeted by a large floating orb crashing through the doors of the main room. Cyborg aimed his sonic cannon at the orb, only to lower it after the orb didn't do anything. "So uh, why isn't it attacking?" He asked.

Beast Boy stepped in front of the orb, facing his teammates with a rare expression of seriousness on his features. "Because it's for me." He answered. The rest of the Titans lost their battle stances and became confused as Beast Boy turned around to face the orb.

The orb emitted a blue beam of light that scanned over Beast Boy's body. Once it was finished scanning a video began to play on the orb's face. "Beast Boy,"  said a man wearing a strange purple helmet, "If this locator pod has found you, then you know what it means."

"The Doom Patrol's in trouble." Beast Boy answered, lowering his head. After a few more words from the recording on the locator pod the Titans set out in the T-Ship towards the Amazon jungle. Robin knew that whatever happened with the Doom Patrol would put finding Danny on hold but he knew he had to help. He had been too focused on finding Danny, maybe some time off would allow him to clear his mind and think better. One could only hope.

AMAZING LINE BREAK HAS ARRIVED! How ya doing? Good I hope ^-^ Okay, back to the chapter!

Danny awoke to the sound of his beeping alarm clock and groaned. He was still sore from his adventure in the Ghost Zone that had occurred a couple days ago. He had been kidnapped by Skulker along with Valarie -who had mysteriously gotten ghost hunting gear shortly after Danny and a ghost dog the boy had named Cujo caused problems in her life - and had to run for their lives. They had succeeded in thwarting Skulker and in the process Danny had learned that Valerie wasn't that bad of a person. To top it all off, last night he had been beaten up pretty bad by four ghosts that were robbing a jewelry store.

But that wasn't the major cause of his distress at the moment. A few weeks ago he had fought against a ghost called Spectra who fed off negative emotions. She had pried at his weaknesses, taunting him about his powers and how he didn't really belong with the Fenton's. He had been able to overcome her taunts and defeat her. Well, not really. Jazz had stepped in and weakened her using Jack and Maddie's newest invention, the Fenton Peeler. If it hadn't been for her Danny didn't know what would have happened to him. He had done his best to push her taunts from his mind but he hadn't had any luck. They were now a part of the nightmares that plagued him every so often.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Danny got out of bed and quickly got dressed. He was going to walk over to Sam's house to walk to school with her as well as deliver the new Morbid Anti-social Youth CD she had wanted for a while. He smiled as he thought about how grateful she would be. He tucked the CD into his pocket, grabbed his bag and headed down the stairs. Once he reached the main floor, the raven haired teen was surprised to see most of the lights had either been turned off or dimmed. The only light that could be seen clearly was a soft glow coming from the kitchen. Danny slowly placed his bag on the ground and cautiously moved towards the kitchen. Curling his hands into fists, Danny braced for an attack. He pressed his back against the wall near the entryway to the kitchen and quickly leaped into the entrance. Danny quickly lost his stance as he saw Maddie, Jack and Jazz all standing close to the entryway. The soft glow he had seen was coming from the candles that decorated a cake in Maddie's hands. On the cake written in icing were the words "Happy One-Year Anniversary!"

"What's this all about?" Danny asked.

Maddie smiled, "Today is a special day Danny. It's the day Ja- I mean, your father and I met you and made you a part of our family."

Danny's eyes widened as he looked at each of the Fenton's. Had it really already been a year since he joined their family? It seemed like just last week he had woken up in the hospital to see their smiling faces. He felt tears forming in his eyes, they had remembered the day they first became a family and cared enough to celebrate it. Even if he never regained his memories and learned who he really was or who his family was, he didn't really care anymore. These people were his family. He blew out the candles and gave them all a hug, which ended up becoming a group hug. Maddie cut the cake and handed a piece to everyone. Danny quickly ate his piece as he remembered he was supposed to go see Sam before school. He gave a kiss on the cheek to Maddie and Jazz and gave Jack a hug before running out the door to get to Sam's house.

The walk to Sam's house was quiet and peaceful. Once her house came into view Danny jogged to her front door, letting himself in. He pulled out the CD and spotted Sam. "Hey Sam, I got that Morbid Anti-social Youth CD you wanted." The teen said with a smile. This caused him to receive glares from Sam's parents. The teen was confused, "What? Have you heard "My Parents Reek"? That cut rocks!" He said cheerfully only to get even darker glares from Mr. and Mrs. Manson.

Danny's eyes then drifted to the small TV in the kitchen as a red spiral appeared on the screen. The spiral was soon replaced by a pale skinned man wearing bright red lipstick and a small black top hat. His attire consisted of the colors black and red, with his long coat being black along with his boots, bow-tie, gloves and waistcoat while his pants and shirt were red. "I... am Freakshow, ringmaster of the Circus Gothica..." The man announced as a skeleton juggling skulls appeared on screen. Freakshow continued to speak, "...where your nightmares come alive. Circus Gothica..." A terrifying clown appeared on screen, "...where the clowns never smile." The clown opened its mouth to reveal a mouth of sharp teeth as it howled with demented laughter, but while (still) frowning. A heavily pierced man covered in tattoos and wearing an iron mask was the last figure to appear on the screen before Freakshow's familiar face filled the screen once more. "Circus Gothica. Come and get your freak on... with real freaks. Circus Gothica! Coming to Amity Park. Cross over... to the dark side."

In Freakshow's hand he held a staff with a glowing red orb. Danny's eyes were drawn to it and he felt his thoughts become muddled. "Cross over to the dark side..." He whispered as his eyes began to glow red and his lips curled upwards into a smirk.

Mrs. Manson stood and turned off the TV set. "Now there's some evil mind pollution we won't be seeing any time soon, sweetie." She said sternly to her daughter.

Sam walked up to her mother and stood beside Danny. "But we already bought our tickets." She argued only to receive raised eyebrows from her parents.

Sam sighed, placing a hand on her forehead before lowering it and facing her parents. "We'll be fine," she insisted, "it's just harmless entertainment, right Danny?" Sam closed her eyes and crossed her arms, a small smile on her face. She knew Danny would agree with her. He had been excited to see the circus too, though he acted strangely whenever they talked about it in depth. He would normally space out and either herself or Tucker would have to forcibly snap him out of it.

The answer she got from Danny was one she hadn't been expecting though. "Cross over to the dark side..."

The gothic teen looked at her friend with low eyelids. "Hilarious." She mused as she turned and pushed Danny in front of her, grabbing his wrist and practically dragging him out the door, "Can we leave now, or do you want to stay and corrupt my grandma?" She questioned as she threw open the door and pulled her friend out behind her.

She led Danny to the sidewalk and let go of his wrist to climb back up the steps and close the door. Once she had done so she turned back to Danny and frowned walking down the steps to stand beside him. "Will you quit messing with my parents? That's my job!" She hissed.

Danny blinked rapidly, "What?" He questioned, pressing a hand against his forehead feeling a sudden pain in his temples. The pain passed quickly and he turned to his friend, "Um, sorry, Sam," he apologized as he rubbed his head, "musta got a little spacey. I was up pretty late last night."

Sam lost her angry look realizing her friend must have just had one of his episodes when he saw the commercial. She really should start keeping track of what triggered them. "Just watch what you saw around them, they already think I'm on the road to troubled teen-hood." She said as she started walking away.

Danny became confused. "Where are you going? School's this way." He told her, pointing in the opposite direction.

Sam grinned, "The Circus Gothica Train pulled into town last night, I'm cutting first period to watch the opening ceremony at the train station."

Danny frowned. "Sam..." He scolded.

"Take it easy, Tucker's got first period free, he's covering for me." She informed him, crossing her arms. Danny could only imagine what Tucker could be doing in order to cover for Sam, and it wasn't a pretty sight. Before Danny could say anything else the goth ran off towards the train station.

"Don't blame me if you get caught!" The half ghost teen yelled after her. Just as he finished speaking, Danny felt a cold sensation in his chest and a blue mist passed his lips. The teen turned around and spotted a green skinned dwarf ghost carrying a large bag on its shoulder running his way. The same dwarf ghost that had been part of the bank robbery the previous night! The ghost sped right through Danny's legs and dashed down the street.

"And speaking of getting caught." Danny said as his eyes went skyward and he saw the other three ghosts from the robbery fly through the air also carrying large bags, "I'm goin' ghost!" The raven haired teen  jumped on top of a nearby trash can, leaped off it onto the hood of a truck and proceeded to jump on top of the truck. He ran to the edge and leaped off, transforming mid-leap and flying after the ghosts in a burst of speed. As he chased after the ghosts Danny saw a police car chasing them as well.

The halfa stopped midair and smiled at the fleeing ghosts. "Opening a new bank account?" He shouted after them, "Don't forget your free toaster!" The teen extended his arms and fired a controlled ectoblast at them. Ever since the college reunion Danny had been sneaking away almost every weekend to meet Vlad in Wisconsin. The man was very accepting of his powers and was an excellent teacher. Despite all the training he had done the past few months Danny still remained slightly cocky at times and this time was no exception. He hadn't aimed before he fired and instead of hitting the dwarf ghost his ectoblast hit the bag the ghost was carrying, causing the dwarf to drop it.

The bag fell and landed on the police cruiser which caused it to crash into a fire hydrant. An officer got out of the car and shook his fist at the ghost boy. "Curse you, ghost kid!" He shouted.

Danny looked down at the officer. "Oh great, more fans." He sighed. Ignoring the rest of the officer's shouts Danny flew after the ghosts, chasing them across town. He watched as the ghosts phased through a billboard advertising Circus Gothica. Danny came to a stop in front of the billboard and found his eyes drawn to the red orb the rested at the top of Freakshow's staff. His thoughts became muddled again and he forgot what he had just been doing.

No, he did remember. He needed to go to his master. Master wouldn't be happy if he didn't return before the next show. Master wouldn't-

"No!" Shouted the deep voice in Danny's mind. That caused the teen to blink rapidly and shake his head. What was he doing here? His eyes widened, the four ghosts! The teen's eyes narrowed and he did a loop-de-loop in the air before phasing through the billboard. As he passed to the other side he saw no sign of the ghosts. What he did see was a whole crowd of goths along with the large tent for Circus Gothica.

"Terrific." Danny grumbled, "The crooks got away, I'm late for school, and," the teen finally took notice of how many goths were at the gathering, "I've never seen so many goths out in broad daylight." Almost as if on cue, each goth pulled out black umbrellas and opened them, shielding their pale skin from the sun.

"Well, look who decided to slum it with the troubled teens." Danny heard a familiar voice say from below him. He looked down to see Sam smirking up at him.

Danny landed beside her, "What? I'm not in trouble." He defended, crossing his arms. His eyes widened as he heard police sirens growing louder.

Sam heard them as well and her smirk continued to grow. "Oh yeah, you're an upstanding citizen. Need to hide from the law?" She questioned.

"No." Danny told her as he turned invisible. He flew behind a stack of iron drums and Sam rushed to stand beside them, assuming that would be the quickest place for him to de-transform. Once his transformation was complete Danny hopped out in front of the barrels and he and Sam whistled nonchalantly as three police officers ran past them.

"Come back here, Inviso-Bill!" One of them shouted as the ran directly past the two teens. Sam and Danny smiled as they watched the cops run off, chasing nothing. They shared a look and a grin. At that moment one train car opened with a drop-down ramp and Freakshow slowly stepped out of the shadows.

"Greetings, fellow outcasts." He shouted loudly, "I am Freakshow, your master of ceremonies. Are you ready to smile, relax, and forget all your troubles amid the pleasant diversions of the circus?" He asked them as he waved his arms about. In his hand he held the familiar staff with the red orb on top.

"NO!!" The crowd shouted at him.

Freakshow grinned, "Then you've come to the right place!" The ringleader slowly walked down the ramp of the train car and began to move about the crowd of people. "Prepare to be disturbed and appalled by a small sample of the bizarre and abnormal world of Circus Gothica." He announced as he gestured back to the train car.An arrow tied to a rope launched out of the car and embedded itself in a pole. From the darkness of the car a woman emerged, crawling on the rope much like an insect. The goths gasped as they watched her move on the rope. A man balancing on a ball and juggling skulls rolled out after her. A heavily-pierced woman within an iron, spiked wheel followed after him. An incredibly tall man in a skeleton suit emerges last, as he crouched to get out of the car. When he stood up straight his height was higher than the train car itself! The goths cheered and Danny found his gaze landing on Freakshow's staff once more.

"This is the greatest moment ever. Nothing could ruin this for me!" Sam said happily.

Her happiness was short lived as mere seconds after she said this, a familiar voice could be heard over a megaphone. "Parents of Amity Park!" The voice shouted, "We urge you to boycott this morbid assault on the morals of our children!"

As the crowd of goths booed Sam turned to see her parents leading a large crowd of protesters. Sam's eyebrows furrowed, "What are they doing here?!?" She muttered, "Why can't they have day-jobs like regular parents?!?"

Freakshow made his way through the crowd and leaped on top of a crate so that he now stood above the crowd. "Don't let the rantings of the closed-minded norms beat you down." He urged, "Show them your true colors! And when I say "colors", I mean "all black". Make them see you for who you are." As Freakshow finished his speech he held out his staff with pride.

Danny's eyes locked onto it and he whispered, "Make them see us for who we are." Danny's eyes faded from their normal blue to a deep red. "Hey everyone!" He shouted, waving his arms, "Over here! We're Danny Fenton and Sam Manson! We cut school and we're proud of it!" The goth teens cheered as Danny posed proudly.

A goth boy with piercings and spiked hair walked up to Danny with a can of spray paint, which he sprayed on Danny's shirt turning it black. "You're one of us now." He told Danny.

Both of Sam's parents spotted her and Danny in the crowd and called out her name in questioning unison. Sam held her head in her hands. There was no possible way things could get any worse.

I AM THE ALL MIGHTY LINE BREAK! SHOWER ME WITH GIFTS! NOW CONTINUE READING!

Apparently, Sam had been wrong. She held the Circus Gothica ticket in her hands and stared sadly at it. "I wanted to experience something horrific and unimaginable." She sighed as she lowered the ticket to see Mr. Lancer clipping his toe nails. "This isn't what I had in mind." After the events of yesterday Sam, Danny and Tucker had all been grounded and gotten detention. Sam's parents had also started working on placing a restraining order on Danny.

"We can always go to the circus tomorrow." Danny told her, "That is, assuming we're not grounded and your parents let me within two-hundred feet of you." He slumped forward in his seat and frowned, He felt guilty about what happened yesterday. He didn't know what came over h

"Guess we'll have to settle for the live web-cast of opening night." Tucker said as he stared at his PDA, which he had cleverly hidden behind a book. Freakshow appeared on the small screen of his device. Danny peered over Tucker's shoulder to look at the screen while Sam continued to sulk.

"Creatures of the night, unleash your dark side at Circus Gothica." The pale ringleader said as 'Circus Gothica' appeared in fancy lettering below him.

Danny felt his thoughts become fuzzy again. "Unleash your dark side at Circus Gothica." He repeated and stood up from his seat heading towards the door. Before Danny could exit the library, Lancer leaped into his path.

"And just where do you think you're going Mr. Fenton?" He asked, placing his hands on his hips.

Danny smiled as he eyes once more turned a sinister red. In a split second he turned his body intangible and leaped into Lancer. The overweight teacher's eyes turned red and Danny's voice was heard repeating once more, "Unleash your dark side at Circus Gothica." The possessed body of Lancer walked into the nearby janitors closet and stepped inside, closing the door behind them. A few seconds later, Danny phased out of the closet in ghost form and locked the closet from the outside.

"Cask of Amontillado!" Lancer shouted from inside the closet as he banged on the door, "Let me out, let me out!"

Sam and Tucker shared a look. The goth teen stood and walked over to Danny with Tucker following close behind. Sam frowned at the ghost teen, "Danny, what are you doing? We're in too much trouble as it is." She scolded, though concern was evident in her voice. Danny had been acting strange all day and it kept getting worse. She was beginning to worry about him.

Danny merely smirked at her, "No such thing as too much trouble." He told her. "Unleash your dark side at Circus Gothica." The half-ghost teen made his body intangible and flew up through the roof, leaving his two friends staring up after him.

"Man. We better follow him." Tucker said as he stared up at the roof.

Sam gasped and held up her Circus Gothica ticket. "Oh no! But that would mean skipping detention and going to the circus!" She said sarcastically. Noticing her technogeek friend's blank stare she clarified, "Hello? Irony." The goth grabbed her friends wrist and pulled him out of the library, rushing to the Circus Gothica fairgrounds.

BEHOLD! I AM THE GREAT AND POWERFUL LINE BREAK! THAT IS ALL! ENJOY THE CHAPTER!

Freakshow waited backstage in the big top. His ghost minions surrounded him, waiting for their newest brother to arrive. The twisted ringleader stroked the orb atop his enchanted staff, "Any moment now, our newest performer will arrive." He told them, "And when he does, our show can really begin." After a few more minutes of waiting, Freakshow saw a soft white glow come from a dark corner of the tent. He smiled and stood, walking over to the glow. He leaned towards the glow, "Come out child, you have no need to be afraid. We're all freaks here."

The glow didn't move. Freakshow frowned and held his staff out in front of him, "I command you, come out right now and show your master some respect!"

The glow still didn't move. But then, it began to waver and, ever so slowly, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was a small boy wearing a black and white HAZMAT suit, with glowing red eyes, tanned skin and snow-white hair. He knelt in front of Freakshow, lowering his head. Freakshow smiled, "Better. You'll make a fine addition to our troupe." He patted the boy's head causing the boy to flinch. His body began to shake as he stood and glared up at a shocked Freakshow with his red eyes.

"You... Aren't... My master." The boy managed to say through clenched teeth, the red glow fading from his eyes revealing their natural green.

Freakshow frowned again, "A lot of fight in this one hm?" The ringleader towered over the boy, "We'll have to fix that." The pale man placed the staff directly in front of boy, forcing him to look directly into the orb. Green eyes turned to red once more and the ghost boy slumped to the ground. Freakshow turned around, his coat flowing behind him. He faced his other minions and put on a large smile, "Would one of you show our newest member to his room and help him prepare for his act?"

When none of the ghosts made a move Freakshow pointed to the muscular ghost, "You, do it. Now!" He commanded. The muscular ghost floated forward and hovered behind the boy. He grabbed the unconscious ghost boy and slung him onto his large shoulder. The muscular ghost then proceeded to float out of the room and he was followed by his fellow ghosts, save for the heavily tattooed one. She stayed behind and floated by her master. Freakshow grinned, "This will certainly be a show for the ages."

Later that night

The big top was fully packed that night with people excitedly whispering to one another about what they thought they would see in the performance. A hush fell over the crowd as Freakshow stepped out into the center ring. A spotlight turned on and Freakshow began to introduce the first act, "Please welcome a performer who puts the "death" in "death-defying acts".... the Grim Reaper himself!" The ringmaster gestured upwards with his staff to reveal a high wire.

Eyes went upward to see a hooded figure wielding a scythe standing on the platform. The figure took the scythe in both his hands and glided across the high-wire causing the audience to gasp. He came to a stop in the center of the wire and placed the scythe in front of him, balancing it on the wire. He placed his hand on top of the blade and lifted himself into the air using only one hand. He remained suspended in the air while the crowd cheered.

Freakshow smiled up at the figure before heading backstage. In doing so he stumbled across a young girl with raven black hair. "What are you doing back here?" He questioned causing the girl to gasp in surprise.

The girl turned around revealing herself to be Sam Mason, but to Freakshow she was just an ordinary girl. Her eyes widened once she took in the grand sight of the ringmaster. "Woah! Freakshow! This is so cool!" She exclaimed before she quickly remembered her reason for being back there. She needed to find Danny. "Focus.." She scolded herself softly, "Uhm, I'm looking for a friend of mine who was acting kinda weird."

Freakshow grinned, "Oh, that narrows it down to, oh," he leaned closer to Sam, "everyone in this tent! HA-HAW!" Sam leaned away from Freakshow and saw a figure approaching them. Freakshow noticed the figure too and angrily turned to them, "What are you doing, dolt?!? Get back out there and do your encore!" He scolded.

The figure reached for their hood and pulled it off, revealing the face of Danny Phantom! "Sam?" He questioned, green eyes filled with confusion. Where was he? Why was Sam here? Who was that man standing next to her?

Freakshow walked over to Danny, "What's that? Was that---was that free will?!?" He questioned as he held his staff higher, "Obey me, minion!" The red glow of the orb intensified and Danny's eyes became red swirls. Any sign of emotion erased itself from his features.

Sam stared up at the staff in Freakshow's hand. "What? You're controlling him?" She questioned.

Freakshow looked from Danny to her, then back to Danny. "Get her." He commanded.

Sam looked over at Danny - who had replaced his hood - as he approached her. She froze with fear as she watched her friend raise the scythe in his hand over his head. Sam screamed and everything faded to black.

The ringmaster of Circus Gothica made his way back out to the center ring and the spotlight turned on him. He addressed the audience, "Please welcome a brand new vict-- talent to the high wire in her first....and final...performance." The pale man gestured up at the high wire where the Grim Reaper from before stood on his platform and a blindfolded girl balanced on the wire. The Grim Reaper raised his scythe and sliced away the girl's blindfold. She looked down and instantly became dizzy at the sight of how high she was off the ground. As she fought to keep her balance the girl's friend rushed into the tent.

"Sam?" He said looking up at the high wire.

Sam slowly turned her head to look at the figure standing behind her while also doing her best to maintain her balance. The key was not to panic. "Danny, listen, you don't wanna do this! You're being controlled!" She told him.

If her friend heard her, he didn't acknowledge her words. Instead, Danny grinned and sliced the rope with his scythe with a laugh. Sam screamed as she began to plummet towards the ground and red eyes faded to green. Seeing his friend in danger Danny rushed into action, dropping his scythe and flying down to catch Sam. Danny reached her mere seconds before she would have hit the ground. For some odd reason, this situation felt familiar to Danny though it felt different as well. The crowd cheered as Danny and Sam landed safely on the ground.

Danny clutched his head in pain as he saw stars. He closed his eyes to try and stop his head from spinning. There were so many thoughts rushing through his mind. So many questions. The voice in his mind fought hard to make itself heard over the noise. But it was quickly drowned out by a smooth voice urging the boy to do as his master told him.

"Danny, don't scare me like that!" Sam said, trying to hide the immense fear in her voice.

Danny's eyes opened revealing their red glow. He became angry, "How should I scare you?" He asked her, getting right in her face. A blank expression passed his features and he glided to the side giving Sam a clear view of the furious ringmaster.

He approached her and towered over her menacingly. "Consider that a warning, girl." He hissed before walking away.

Tucker rushed over to Sam to see if she was okay, "Jeez, Sam, you nearly gave me a heart-attack! Can we take time off from your gothapalooza and actually look for Danny?" He asked her, slightly annoyed.

Sam whipped around to glare at him, "That was Danny, under the hood, Freakshow's controlling him with some kind of crystal ball! C'mon!" She told him, running out of the tent with Tucker close behind. The two friends exited the tent, only to crash into a mob of angry parents.

"Sam!" Mrs. Mason exclaimed, "Shouldn't you be in detention?"

Sam gulped nervously, "Uhm.. Lancer let us out?" Sam inwardly groaned as she knew where this was going to lead. They didn't have time for this! They needed to save Danny! Before it was too late.

Yo, Normal Line Break here. Just poppin' in to say hi. And now I feel incredibly old. Just, continue reading the chapter already. See ya!

The shadows were back, or maybe they never left. They passed through his line of sight, never staying still long enough for him to get a good look at them. He just wanted at least one of them to stay still, even for a second, just so that he could make out some detail on their faces. But alas, they never did.

Danny sighed as he continued to twirl in the air. Master had ended the show a while ago and he was allowing them a brief relax period before they had to go and get Master's riches. He had found a trapeze set that they hadn't used in the show and felt drawn to it. Master didn't like it when he wasn't in his ghost form, so he had to stay in it constantly. Though it didn't really mater to him for on the trapeze, he felt alive. He felt free. But he would never be free from the shadows. They had become more apparent ever since he had been found by his Master. They reached out to him, called his name, tried to make him see them. All their efforts were useless.

But on the trapeze, one shadow stood out the most. It stayed still a lot more often than the other ones. It was in the shape of a young boy and one feature that Danny could always see was the shadow's blue eyes. It would try to talk to him, but Danny could never hear what it said. That is, not until he missed the bar on the trapeze.

As Danny flew through the air, he missed the second bar and began to fall to the ground. He wasn't scared but a voice shouted in mind shouted his name very loudly, startling him. He managed to catch himself seconds before he hit the ground and landed safely. Danny looked around, looking for his fellow performers or Master, but no one was there. He was alone. Danny took the opportunity and laid down on the ground, closing his eyes. The shadow boy was waiting for him.

"I'll never let you fall Danny. I promise." Said the shadow. Screams filled the air and a sickening crack could be heard. Then everything went red.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! The Fearless Fly-- sons!" Another shadow shouted, this one largely different from the other. His words cut out halfway through his sentence and Danny couldn't hear everything he said. Before he could delve deeper into the shadows, he felt something poking his forehead. Danny cracked open his eyes to look up at the dwarf ghost.

Danny nodded and sat up. It was time to go. They had a lot to do before tomorrow's performance and Master did not like to be kept waiting. The ghost teen got to his feet and followed the dwarf ghost to where the others were gathered. Master would give them the details of their job and they would leave to do it. The teen's eyes narrowed as he floated through the tent, the shadows finally starting to disappear.

littlest line break here. wow, i think this makes me the fourth line break this chapter. yay me! enjoy the rest of the chapter!

"Sam, did ya catch the news? We gotta do something to save Danny!" Tucker said over their video chat. Earlier there had been a news broadcast detailing Circus Gothica. Freakshow was offering a free show to the protesting parents to prove to them that his show was merely harmless entertainment. Not only that, footage was shown of a robbery from last night. A robbery that Danny had been a part of. Then there had been something about Lancer but neither teen had paid much attention to that part.

"How ironic is it that I'm stuck under house-arrest while to a free Circus Gothica show?!" Sam questioned.

"Only slightly less ironic than the fact that they were right about it being evil." Tucker answered.

Sam frowned and her eyes drifted to her window. She faced Tucker once more, "Can you sneak out of your house by any chance?"

Tucker shrugged, "Probably."

"Good enough." Sam told him, "Meet me at the Circus Gothica as soon as you can." Her eyes went back to her window and then to the broken drawer on her dresser where she hid her rope ladder, "We're saving our friend."

Sam closed her computer and tossed the rope ladder out the window, climbing down it. Nothing was going to stop her from saving her friend. Nothing, except maybe her grandma. But the confrontation between them was short lived and after a sneaky deal was made between them Sam headed off on her way back to the Circus Gothica fairgrounds.

She arrived at the fairgrounds in record timing and began to sneak around searching for any sign of her half-ghost friend. As she was nearing the train cars Sam noticed a bat-shaped shadow falls upon her. Almost exactly like Freakshow's staff! In fear Sam quickly slid underneath the train car and hid, hoping the ringleader hadn't seen her. A pair of feet walked up to the train and along with them came a voice. "Sam?" It questioned, sounding very familiar

"Tucker?" Sam replied.

Tucker crouched down to see his friend under the car, "Hey Sam. Is this a great Circus Gothica hat or what?" He asked, pointing to the bat hat on his head. In response Sam got out from under the car and smacked it off his head. "I'll take that as an 'or what'."

The two friends climbed on top of the train and Sam lifted a hatch on top. She jumped down and landed on her feet. Tucker followed after her and managed to belly flop onto the floor with a shout. Once Tucker got back on his feet the two friends searched the car. It was filled with gold, jewlery, art and other expensive items. And in the back corner of the car rested their prize.

Sam pointed to the glowing staff and exclaimed, "There's the crystal ball! Let's grab it and--" Before Sam could finish her statement, both herself and Tucker were blasted out of the car by a burst of green ecto-energy. As the two teens regained their bearing's they looked up to see Danny float out the caboose, his hands still glowing with green energy. Freakshow came out after, stepping out of the shadows like he was emerging from water. The whistle on the train sounded and began to pull away, taking Danny with it.

Sam got up and ran after the fleeing train shouting, "Danny! No!"

Freakshow smiled at her action, "Yes, yes, please scream. A shame anyone who might help you is busy enjoying my free show. HAAAH!"

Sam and Tucker watched helplessly as the train moved faster and faster away from them. "What are we going to do?" Tucker asked as he continued to jog alongside Sam after the train. "We'll never catch up to them at this rate!"

Sam frowned as she saw the truth in Tucker's words. Her eyes searched for a way to catch up when she spotted a nearby overpass. She grinned and turned her head to Tucker, "We're going to take a detour."

Tucker smiled in confusion, both happy and terrified that Sam had a plan.

A/N: Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated in forever. I recently got a new job so I've been trying to adjust and other things have kept me busy as well. I will do my best to try and get updates out sooner as I am finishing up one of my other books. Thanks and I'll see you all in the next one!

(P.S. The reason I am ending it here was because it was getting too long for my liking, especially since this is mostly just me re-writing the episode.)
