Chapter 30

Hiccup groaned, hand on his forehead. He put his fingers on the smaller, sun looking symbol on the laptop keyboard and the screen brightness reduced. He sighed, his headache calming down slightly and his eyes not hurting as much.

"My gods, what am I going to do?" He whispered under his breath, looking at the text on the laptop screen.

Over the last few weeks, he had been thinking of writing a song for Astrid. A song for them. About their love and about her and about their future together.

Their future...

He wanted that word to come true. He wanted to have a future with her. Forever. He wanted her by his side when he woke up in the morning. He wanted her to stay by his side when he was sick and he wanted her to be safe by his side. He wanted her to be with him and to watch movies with him, play games with him, sing to him, cuddle with him and always be by his side.

He needed all of that. That's what he wanted and needed and he hoped she wanted all of that too.

Hiccup had had a few lines in his head that he always heard from time to time.

I'll swim and sail on savage seas, with ne'er a fear of drowning, and gladly ride the waves of life if you will marry me...

He didn't remember much more of it. He always heard that line whenever he thought of Astrid.

He sighed, looking up and around. Toothless and Stormfly were laying on the floor at the foot of the couch, snoozing quietly on each other.

Hiccup smiled and stood up quietly, looking at the clock as he walked over to the sink. It was just a pre minutes past 9 AM.

He reached up and opened a cupboard, pulling out a glass and filling it with water.

He wondered when Astrid would wake up. They weren't out for long yesterday with the others. However, when he thought about it, they did go to bed pretty late due to...them doing stuff.

Hiccup jumped when he felt hands land on his back and trail around his waist, pulling him towards her. He pulled the glass away from his mouth and set it down on the marble countertop.

"Good morning, M'lady," Hiccup said, his voice husky and barely above a whisper. "Mmm," Astrid murmured before burying her face into his back. "Good morning," She said, her voice muffled. Hiccup chuckled and grabbed her hands, prying them off of him. He turned around and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Astrid smiled tiredly, burying her face into his neck. Hiccup kissed the side of her head and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her close.

"I love you, Astrid. Never forget that, okay?" He asked, pulling back and looking at her. Astrid pulled back her head and looked at her boyfriend. "I'll never forget that," She said, leaning up to press her lips against his jaw. "I promise," She whispered after pulling away.

"Good, keep it that way," Hiccup said and kissed her forehead. He pulled back, eyebrows furrowed. "You're warm," He started and lifted his hand, placing his wrist on her forehead. "Yep, you're definitely beginning to have a fever," He finished and Astrid groaned, rolling her eyes.

"But, I wanted to do stuff today..." She said and pulled away, walking around the Kitchen Island, into the living room and flopping down onto the couch.

Hiccup smiled at her softly and walked into their room, picking up a blanket from the "storage" box at the end of the bed for all the decorative pillows.

Hiccup walked out of the room and draped the blanket over her and sitting down behind her. He leaned down, placing his left hand a few inches away from her face and placing his other hand behind her head.

He pressed a kiss to her temple and Astrid hummed, looking up. "Thank you, babe," She whispered, snuggling into the blanket and the couch.

"You're welcome, M'lady. I'm just going to take a quick shower then I'll go out. Dad wanted to talk some business with me so I gotta check on him and see what he wanted. I'll be back as soon as I can," He said and pressed another kiss to her temple before pressing one on her cheek.

Astrid hummed and looked up at him as he walked away.

How did I deserve this...amazing human being? He's more than I could've ever wished for. I honestly don't know what I would've done if I hadn't run into him that day in the cafeteria. I know now that it was for the better that he got to know about my past and my present. Although, I feel like I burden him with all of my problems...maybe he should've fallen in love with someone else. Not a suicidal freak, Astrid thought and sat up, leaning against the pillows.

She looked down at the sleeve covering her left wrist and pulled it up, her breath leaving her lungs.

Why did she let it go so far?

She looked at it before letting go of her sleeve and placing her finger at the edge of the palm and slowly pulling her finger down her wrist, over the scars. She barely felt most of them but once or twice, her finger trailed over a more protruding scar.

She sighed and pulled her hand away, just looking down at her wrist and hands.

She must've sat there for minutes, just looking down at her hands and wrist.

"Astrid."

Her head snapped up and she looked around, seeing where his voice came from before seeing him stand by the Kitchen Island.

She bowed her head and slowly pulled her sleeve down, sighing. She heard his footsteps walk towards her but she didn't look up.

She pulled her legs up, towards her and Hiccup sat down in front of her. He reached out his hands and looked at her. Astrid slowly looked up and she reached her hands out to him.

Hiccup grabbed her left hand with his right and held it tightly. He pulled her sleeve up with his left hand rather forcefully, - not intentionally - and her breath hitched. "What are you-" He interrupted her.

"Astrid, this is the past. You mean the world to me and it hurts so incredibly much when I see you like this. You have to understand me. I'm not going anywhere. I'll always stay right here, beside you. Helping you and being there for you when you need it. I know you're a strong and independent woman. You just have to find that little spirit in yourself and you'll be able to do anything. I'm here for you Astrid. Promise me you'll never do anything that will harm you again," Hiccup said, his voice cracking but still forceful.

Astrid looked down.

Hiccup pulled back and placed his hands on her arms. "Promise," He said, tears brimming in his eyes and his voice, hoarse. Astrid looked up. "I promise."

"Good," He sighed out and pulled her against him, letting her know that he was close and that he couldn't go anywhere.

Once he stepped out of the door, she laid down on the couch for a little nap.

Little did she know...
