Karen Potts

"We are hosting the Full Moon Festival in the town's park tonight; you should come Belle." I hear Karen Potts, my fellow waitress, invite me.

"Mrs. Potts, I can't I have this thing to do tonight." I reply.

"Is what you say every night for the past week!" Karen Potts whines.

"Well, I have things. Like everyone else." I reply nervously. No one really knows that I am "dating" Grantaire for the next month and three weeks. I jokingly call Karen "Mrs. Potts" because she is thirty and married with a four year old son. Her son's name is Charles Xavier Potts, but we all call him Chip. Karen's eyes light up.

"Wait, are you dating someone?" Karen exclaims. Everyone looks in our direction with interested expression upon their faces. It is as if they do not have their own lives to contend to! I mean, hello? I need some privacy here people! The sun streams through the large window that faces town square. I shake my head to answer Karen's question.

"I am not dating anyone." I say with a nervous scoff. I mean I know that Grantaire and I are not truly dating. It is a ruse to keep his parents happy. So why am I anxious when my friend says "dating" and I in the same sentence? Karen gives me a knowing look.

"Okay, then I will tell Serif Karikay that you will be saving him a dance tonight and that you are coming." I cover her mouth.

"Fine. I will ask him and his parents if they will come with me tonight." I reluctantly relent. I walk into the bathroom in the back to change out of my waitressing outfit. Really all I have to do is take off my apron and clock out; however, I just need some time to myself. I pull out my phone and go to text Grantaire.

Me: So, I kind of just roped in you, your mom, your dad, and I into coming to a town festival tonight.... and my best friend Karen Potts thinks we are dating. I click send and let out a sigh. Damn my complicated life. My text alert goes off and I look to see the damage I did.

Grantaire: Cool. My parents wouldn't mind. I let out a breath. Okay, he may not be angry. That is a good thing. Then my phone goes off again.

Grantaire: I will try not to be *as* intoxicated. I laugh at his post script text.

Me: Great! I am going to see if the library needs any help. I look out of the bathroom and see Kazato. I send another text. On second thought... can you pick me up? The sheriff is here and I honestly do not feel like pouring the *good* coffee on him. I slightly chuckle at my text. I think now would be a good time for me to tell you why I am so against (and hate with ever fiber of my being!) Kazato Karikay.

My text alert goes off. Sorry, that story will come at a later date. I look at the text. Grantaire: I am here. Come out of the bathroom. How does he know that I am here?

   Me: How'd you know?

Grantaire: The blonde lady asking me why I am asking for you. She asked if I am your boyfriend.... HELP ME!

Me: Okay Mister-I-Am-Kind-Of-Actually-I-Am-Extremely-Antisocial. I reply before stepping out of the bathroom. I see my blonde haired friend and wave. I walk to Grantaire's table, or prison with the way Karen Potts cornered him. I sit across from him then give him a wink. I look to Karen. She begins to gush over how handsome and funny Grantaire is. "Karen," I begin to say. "I hate to tell you this, but we have to go. Grantaire and I need to talk about.... stuff?" I try to make this seem like a probably excuse. Karen rolls her eyes at my feeble attempts of getting away from her.

"You can just tell me to go, Belle. And besides, I am leaving anyway. I have to go pick Chip up from a friend's house." Mrs. Potts walks out the door living jingling silver bells behind her. I start to stand as well and give Grantaire a smile.

"Thank you." We say at the same time.

   "For what?" We reply again.

"Forget it/Never mind." We answer each other.

Grantaire walks forward to the wooden door and holds it open for me. I smile and say, "Merci Grantaire." The boy laughs and leans down. He jokes around as if pretending to let me in on a secret.

"I can't speak French." He says smiling a bit. I roll my eyes with a smile and grab his black aviator jacket by the sleeves. I wonder, is he trying the Nico di Angelo look? If so, it kind of works for him. Dammit! Another tangent. Sorry guys.

"Come on! We are going to get ready for the festival!" I reply in a giddy voice. The Full Moon Festival is my favorite town-sanctioned "holiday". I pull him out of the cafe.

"ARABELLA!" I turn my attention to my cousin.

   "¿Sí?" I ask him.

"Get away from the Beast!" He commands motioning to Grantaire. I scoff.

"Get to know him first!" I reply before fully pulling my friend out of the cafe. I close the door and start walking in the direction of the library. Grantaire and I are just smiling and laughing. Yeah, we are the weirdest people in the town.... but, for once, I don't mind.
