Chapter 5❤
Tommy had now been staying at my house for a month, my family had returned from their camping trip 3 weeks ago and believe it or not he had become fast friends with the majority of the family- yes even Zach, the minority being myself. Even Dad loved him, and despite claims of being past the fact that he hadn't been told of Tommy's arrival, still found every opportunity to bring it up, such as this morning at breakfast.
It went like this:
Jake: Mum can I go out with Daniel tonight?
Mum: Well this is late notice Jake, yes you can go but next time tell me sooner
Dad: You mean like how you told me about how Tommy was staying
Mum: I thought you had let that go
Dad: Oh I have, I just love making you feel guilty
Mum: How lovely
Dad: You know I love you
Mum: Aww I love you too
(But before anything could get anymore mushy, and I could throw up my bacon and eggs, Jack came to the rescue)
Jake: Mum, Dad... JUST STOP
Mum: You're such a buzzkill
Dad: Come and give me some sugar honey, if you know what I mean
And then he winked.
Yes, he winked.
And then everyone ran from the dining room.
That was hours ago and now I was laying down in bed, listening to the most recent The Wanted album. I was in one of those moods where I just felt like being alone; I was trying to make the most of my time as school resumed in a week. I was not exactly looking forwards to being a senior, I was not yet prepared for the hours of work I would soon be completing.
I was concentrated on the sketch pad in front of me. I was drawing the picture on my bedside table of my best friend Lucy and I. We'd been friends as far as I could remember.
I refused to tell anyone of my talent, I was the only person that knew I could draw, and I was quite adamant on keeping it that way. It wasn't often that I drew, only when I had inspiration, or was in the mood to do it. I kept the pad under lock and key inside a chest underneath my bed. It was however, not the only thing I kept in there. My other treasured possessions consisted on some of my favourite pictures, my journal and also a silver locket.
The locket was empty. I had found it in a thrift shop on a holiday to Spain and had immediately fallen in love with it. It had a rose engraved onto its lid, and the words 'Amor' on the back. What I adored the most about it was that it had a key to open it; that was tucked safely beneath all my pictures. I was waiting for the day that I found someone special enough to put in it, I'd had no luck yet. But, then again, I was only 17 years old, I had many hopeful years to go.
"Boo!" I heard a voice shout, pulling me out of my reverie.
I was so shocked, so my expression must have been the cause of their obnoxious laughter.
I didn't even have to turn around to know that it was
"Tommy." I said bluntly, sighing loudly.
"Yes m' lady?" he did a terrible British accent and I could just hear a smirk in his voice.
"Get. Out." I said in a low warning voice.
I really craved loneliness right now, and his presence was interrupting my peace and quiet.
Minutes had past and I still hadn't heard the door close shut. I was fully prepared to turn around and give him a great peace of my mind, but the dip of my bed halted me. I quickly tucked my pad beneath my pillow, praying that he hadn't noticed anything.
I looked to my left and saw blob jr. making himself comfortable on my bed. He was always entering my room at his leisure, with blatant intentions of annoying the cheese out of me. I felt my right eye twitch, as it normally did when I was extremely angry or annoyed. In this particular situation, I most definitely was both of those things.
"Quite a twitch you've got going there." He pointed out, gesturing to his own right eye.
I ignored him and shuffled forwards to cover the square the book had left beneath the duvet.
"What's that?" he pressed on, pointing at a tip of the square.
Oh cheese sticks
"Nothing," I said, chuckling uneasily.
"Yes, that is something." he corrected, his eyes were still trained on the exposed corner.
Why I had still left it exposed still bugged me, I should have been quick to cover it.
He eyed me warily for a second, before pushing me off the bed in one swift movement.
"Oi!" I called out, rubbing my head as it began to throb.
I quickly scrambled back onto my bed to try and stop his intrusion, but I was too late. The pad sat comfortably in his hands as he flicked through the pages. I felt a seed of pride as his mouth hung open in amazement.
Taking advantage of his moment of weakness, I snatched it from his grasp and tucked it nicely beneath my elbow.
"Holy shit! You're amazing!" he exclaimed loudly.
"Watch your language," I reprimanded sternly, "quiet your voice down, and er- thanks." I finished shyly.
"Yeah, yeah. So I take it Joe's not the only artistic one in the family...." he trailed off, still staring at the closed book.
"Well, he is much better than I am at drawing." I replied modestly, I began to blush. As flattering as compliments were, I just couldn't bear them.
"That's what you think." he scoffed.
I shuffled around on the bed to make myself more comfortable, ignoring Tommy's withstanding stare on me.
"So... why do you hide your talent?" he asked cautiously, raising an eyebrow.
"What makes you think I do?" I replied, trying to contradict him and crossing my arms over my chest.
I realised my complete and utter failure when he simply straight faced me and matched my stance. I turned around to plant my face on a pillow on my bed.
"Here's a tip for the future. Nonchalance and dishonesty is the key to everything. You could have just said it was Joe's and he let you flick through one of his old books?" he voiced from behind me.
I raised my head to face him again.
"Speaking from experience?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.
His expression suddenly turned serious and his gaze lingered on me for a second before he responded, "that's for me to know and you to never find out."
That sounded mysterious on so many levels.
"Right...." I trailed off, awkwardly shifting my eyes around the room.
His serious expression transitioned to his usual easy going one and he laughed loudly at me."Relax Tam Tam, I was just pulling your leg." he snorted, "What do you think I am, some serial killer?"
I gave him a look that suggested I actually thought he did and he flicked my nose.
I prayed he wouldn't get into the habit of doing that.
"Ha ha ha." he laughed dryly.
I winked at him."Well anyway, promise that you won't say a word of this to anyone?" I asked hopefully, pulling my best puppy dog face.
I had chosen to go down the innocent route, instead of the more painful one.
"Hmm, let me think about it...." he jokingly rubbed his chin and furrowed his eyebrows in supposed thought.
"Oh, come on! I'll promote you to my designated person of extreme annoyance?" I asked cheekily, nudging his arm with my elbow and wriggling my eyebrows.
"I think I'll pass on that one," he chuckled, which of course was a good sign, "but yeah, sure, I won't tell anybody." he assured.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I repeated, wrapping my arms around his waist in a flimsy excuse for a hug.
"That's alright." he laughed, awkwardly patting my head.
"Now," I began, pulling back from him, "would you pretty please get the hell out of my room?" I finished, smiling sweetly.
"Your wish is my command." he winked, jumping off of the bed and walking to the door.
He performed a funny dance in his walk, following his promise, that made me laugh out loud. He put my dance moves to shame.
"Thanks genie!" I exclaimed mockingly as he stole out of the room.
Maybe I was weird too...
