Why?

Angel. The name of someone sweet. Innocent. Someone that isn't me. I've done so many things wrong in my life. So everything that's happening, it's something I deserve. If I die, it can't be helped. It's my punishment from God. But why? Why this? Why do something that harms so many people that doesn't deserve it? Deserve this?

Why does he punish everyone for my doings? I couldn't save that man. I couldn't bring him back. Why doesn't he just kill me? Why does he make everyone around me suffer, and me to suffer the guilt?

"Angel, you okay?" It's Karen. "No," is all I reply with. She lays her hand on my shoulder, then lifts it off. A light weight remains. "You need it." She walks off to the cafeteria. I look on my shoulder and see a cigarette along with a lighter. I smile and step out the front door, sitting on the curb.

With a flick of the lighter, I strike the cig and take a small amount. I don't smoke often, but it's a big stress reliever. Especially after I lose a patient. "Ms. Angel," someone says behind me. It's Caden. He's been by my side ever since I started. He's quite the gentleman as well.

"Don't fret over it. You know you did your best." He's a pretty genuine guy. He has dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and always keeps his face shaved. His height is probably around 6' and he's slender, but not too slender if you get what I'm saying.

"You'll get another chance. So please don't worry about it." I look over at him and smile. He smiles back and pats my head before standing back up. "I'll take you to dinner after work to cheer you up, okay?"

I nod, so he walks back inside the hospital. I look at the trees surrounding the worker's parking lot. It's around mid fall, so leaves are everywhere. The guy with the leaf blower will come clean it up eventually.

The cars on the highway continue whizzing by, but that's when I notice one speeding down the exit way towards here. "I better go back inside in case I need to be called on." I put out the cigarette and step back inside.

I start seeing Karen run to the infirmary, so I follow her there to see what's up. A guy is moaning while his friend is explaining what happened. I put on a doctor's mask along with some latex gloves and begin to examine the guy before me.

"What's your name and relation to the patient?" I ask the other guy calmly. "My name's Luke Patterson and I'm one of his closest friends. His name is Johnathon Dennis." I nod and look back down at Johnathon.

"He has a piece of glass stuck in his leg and a possible fractured bone. I'm going to need someone to take him to the examination and take a better look before removing the glass. If it is lodged in the bone this will be more serious."

Three people join in taking him while I stay with Luke to explain what's going to happen.

"Depending on the damage will depend on if he stays a few nights. Can you explain the story again?"

He nods and takes a deep breath, probably to calm his nerves. "So me and him were playing games and basically minding our own business when this strange guy was outside our window. He busted it in and started walking- no- limping into the living room.

I started yelling at the guy telling him to go away, but he kept coming towards us. So I did what I knew how and grabbed my bat and put him unconscious. We both jumped through the sliding glass door to get out, but John got caught so I immediately brought him here."

"You said a strange limping man? Could you please explain?" I grab a notepad off the counter and start to write down the details as he tells them. Ragged clothes, pale skin, scratchy voice, and nearly solid black eyes.

"I'll get the police to investigate on it. Mind telling me the address this happened at?" "23 South 7th Avenue, Orlando Florida." I nearly drop my pen. That's so close to my house.

"Was there anyone else's houses that was broken into?!" I ask quickly. He looks a little taken back at the speed of my question. "N-not that I know of." I sigh with relief then tell him to sit tight while I go to the front desk.

"Send this to the deputy please and tell him to get right on it. A direct order from Angel Norrah." She nods and steps into the office. I walk to the examination room to check on his friend. "Stats?" I ask the closest worker to me.

"The glass didn't break the muscle tissue so we're going to send him to the infirmary to get it removed then bring him back to examine any hidden damage."

I nod and step outside. I hate the examination room. It gives me the creeps with how dark it always is. "Excuse me," it's Luke. "Mind telling me your name?" "It's Angel Norrah. I'm one of the head nurses here. So if there's anything you need just come find me."

I shake his hand with a small smile as he does the same. "Nice to meet you Angel. Thanks for taking care of my friend." I nod and reply with "It's my job to serve others. So my pleasure to help your friend."

I see a few doctors and nurses run through the infirmary doors so I take it as my cue to leave. "If you'll excuse me," I follow in and see a guy with his foot twisted all the way around. "Sorry Master, I won't be tonight."
