Surviving The Games (Chapter 9)~The Sky's Tumbling, Run!
Lucinda's POV
I'm the only one awake after the explosion. I look around at the white extract from the explosion. It mixes with the snow, blending in with everything. Some wind picks up the snow, whirling it around like leaves. I cling onto a small hill while trying to get up. I stumble at first, but eventually stand. I look around for my staff and see it at the entrance of the cave. I limp over to it, but feel a wrist on my ankle. I look down to see Laurance looking straight up at me. I guess I wasn't the only one awake after all... He pulls my leg back, causing me to fall face first into the ground. I kick him off of me, then make my way to my staff. I grab it, a white flash going around. Once it disappears, I'm fully healed.
"GUYS, RUN! IT'S ABOUT TO EXPLODE!" I scream.
Everyone else gets up, even the people Jeffory and I were fighting only a few moments ago. Jeffory didn't seem to care about alliances either at the moment. Laurance, Aphmau, Travis, Jeffory and I run away with our weapons in hand.
Once we get far enough, we all look back. A rumbling noise echoes from the cave, then there's a flash of light. When it disappears, fire cackles and flames burst. The whole cave is in ashes, burnt to the ground. I feel a pair of arms wrap around me. I'm about to do something, but the person speaks.
"Hey, baby~" Travis sings.
"Let go of me." I growl.
"Playin' hard to get, aye?" Travis jokes.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." I mumble, rolling my eyes.
Travis chuckles, then unravels his arms from me, "I don't think I've properly introduced myself." Travis looks me in the eye, "I'm Travis Warlock from District Nine. And if you're wondering, I'm the son of the Demon Warlock." Travis introduces himself.
"Impressive. I'm Lucinda Witchcraft from District Five. Daughter of Hydra." I say.
I feel something stab me in the arm, "YOU TRAITOR, LUCINDA." Jeffory yells.
Aphmau rushes over to me, Travis turning into his Warlock form. Travis tackles Jeffory, both of them fighting now. Laurance assists Travis as Aphmau helps heal me with magicks. She pulls the sword from my arm, then a white flash fills my vision. It disappears, then my arm is fully healed.
"T-Thanks, Aphmau. I thought you hated me for... Almost killing you." I say, bashfully.
"Nah, it's ok. It's the Hunger Games." Aphmau helps me up.
A weird presence fills my body. I bet Aphmau can feel it too, because she tenses up as well, "Strange..." I mumble.
I hear a yell, then the cannon boom. I whip my head around, afraid that it's Travis that the cannon boomed for. It was Jeffory. His limp body lays on the ground, with Travis and Laurance getting up.
"I didn't like him much anyway." I add. We look at the cave, which is now emitting electricity, "Everyone, duck!" I exclaim.
We hide behind a tree, then watch the cave have a bolt of lightning beam from it. The bolt reaches the top of the dome, it creating a burst of light over the dome-shaped forcefield. A circular shape grows larger as it expands over the forcefield's border.
Soon, chunks start falling from the sky. Burning pieces of metal fall from above, forcing the snow to pan out. Below the snow is metal ground. A chunk falls towards us. With us all being out of our magick forms, it'll make it harder for us to move around.
"GUYS, MOVE!" I grab Aphmau's hand and pull her away.
The boys make it out, Travis barely avoiding the chunk, "We gotta get out of here!" Aphmau looks around frantically.
"But how?" Laurance questions, practically taking the words out of my mouth.
"Just run...!" Aphmau starts running.
Since the snow has been pushed away by the chunks, we're now running on metal ground. Of course, we have to dodge a couple chunks, but the metal ground makes it easier to run. We make our way to Aphmau's hideout.
"Guys, come on! We have to leave...!" Aphmau yells to the rest of her alliance.
Everyone from her alliance runs out. The people I know that're still roaming are the Piko Twins and Aaron Mayeh. They don't worry me right now, so I continue to run with everyone else. We see an opening of the forcefield barrier.
"Guys, we could escape! Over here...!" Aphmau calls.
She and Laurance are in the front. Katelyn and Travis are in the middle with me. Of course, people are giving me weird looks, but they're ignoring it due to the circumstances. I don't think it's the best time for a kill, considering that THE SKY IS FALLING! We run thru the opening, just to be greeted by a long, cement hallway.
"Where are we?" I ask, still taking everything in.
So, we're out of the arena, yet we're trapped again... We see a red head and black haired person running out the other side. Probably the Piko Twins. Another figure with black hair runs out of the arena, coming in our direction.
"Aaron?" Aphmau asks.
Aaron's eyes widen, then he blends in with the wall, disappearing from our sight. Red lights start to flash in the long hallway. Sirens start to roar, causing my ears to ring slightly. The grip on my staff tightens as I get more fearful.
"We have to keep moving. We may not be in the Hunger Games anymore, but there's still a chance of us dying due to the arena collapsing." Aphmau commands.
Everyone follows her. I look back at the arena, seeing what everyone died and survived in. Watching it all collapse. All the deaths meant nothing. Well, the deaths didn't mean anything in the first place, but now, they truly mean nothing. Ugh, I can't keep thinking about this... As I continue to walk, the arena is taken out of my sight from a cement wall. What're we going to do now? I guess just play it by ear...
