Halley kept her head down as she scanned King's Cross station with her dark eyes. She was well aware of Walburga's piercing eyes staring down at her. Halley tucked her hair behind her ear as she tried to look for her friends. She was able to find the Marauders quickly, seeing as they were the loudest family there. Halley looked over to where Sirius had his arms slung around James and Remus, and couldn't help but smile softly at her happy brother.
Halley was thankful he had been able to escape the clutches of Walburga. The only reason she'd been upset about him leaving was that he didn't take her with him. She was tempted to sigh a little at the thought but decided against it as she'd probably be punished for that later. Walburga punished her severely for the littlest of things: a stray hair, a single crease in her shirt—anything she could find.
Halley could hear her mother praising Regulus about how he had been able to be one of the selected seventh year students to go to a different magical community despite being in the sixth year. She was praising him for how he was the perfect son and for being able to go to a whole different country.
Halley dared to turn around to look and she saw that her mother was holding Regulus uncomfortably by his forearms where his Dark Mark was.
Regulus had gotten the Dark Mark a few days after Christmas. Halley was thankful that she wasn't taken to You-Know-Who to get a mark, but the reasoning why still hurt. You're a female, Halley. Your only job is to give an heir to your family, so there's no need for you to get the Dark Mark. Regulus is our heir and our son; therefore he gets the mark. She knew very well that Walburga only saw her as a chess piece—a free womb for the next Black family heir to grow in. Halley was positive Walburga didn't even see her as a human being with a consciousness, and definitely not as a daughter to love.
Halley was able to see that Regulus looked nervous while their mother was praising him. She could see how he was carefully trying to wrench his arms from their mother's hands and pull down his sleeves further. Halley remembered how he had been almost desperate to wear a long sleeve shirt despite the summer weather. While his excuse to their mother had been to make himself look more respectable, Halley knew the true answer. He wanted to cover up his Dark Mark as much as possible.
Halley remembered the night that he had gotten the Dark Mark. He had been so terrified he couldn't speak. Halley had been writing a letter to Lily and he had run into the room and thrown himself into Halley's arms. He'd recounted everything: the burning, how terrifying You-Know-Who had looked, how their cousins were so proud of him, how dirty he felt now. Every word had caused Halley's hatred and fear for their parents to grow stronger. She just hoped one day they could break free from their parents the same way Sirius did. Until then, she could only hope for the best.
Halley then looked over to her father and smiled at him. He smiled back. At least Orion saw her as a person, as his child. He had always been the kinder parent, though he was terrified of Walburga. Halley couldn't blame him for that, though. As scary as You-Know-Who was, Walburga's wrath and anger were about ten times scarier.
Halley looked around a tad bit more to find Lily. A hint of a blush crawled up her cheeks when her girlfriend smiled at her. Halley smiled back softly before quickly hiding it as if nothing had happened for fear of her parents' punishments.
Halley was a closeted pansexual, and she didn't plan on coming out to her parents anytime soon—or to anyone for that matter. Heck, the only people who knew about her and Lily's relationship were Regulus, Remus, and Hel. Regulus had stumbled on them snogging in a broom closet (at which point Halley and Regulus both turned red as Lily's hair), Halley was technically Hel's apprentice and had asked her what to do when she found out she liked Lily, and Remus—well, Remus just knew everything.
Speaking of Hel, Halley managed to catch the goddess's eye as she was saying bye to her family. Hel brought her hand up for a quick hello before pointing to Halley's parents. Halley got the idea and took a deep breath to gather the courage to talk to her parents for permission to go to Hel. Well, more so Walburga than Orion.
"Mother? Father?" Halley asked and Walburga whipped around from saying goodbye to Regulus. Regulus looked more than relieved though as he pulled his sleeves down further and further.
"What do you want?" Walburga snapped and Halley bowed her head just a little lower because she knew her mother adored being in control.
"May I go over to where Hel is and get on the train with her?" Halley asked quietly.
Walburga made a disgusted face at Halley before waving her off. Halley nearly sighed in relief and waved goodbye to her dad. Her things were already on the train so she didn't have to worry about them. Halley picked up her cat's carrier which contained her black cat named Loki. Of course, she hadn't known that Loki was real at the time that she named the kitten; she'd only been eleven. Halley headed over to Hel, trying to hide the smile on her face.
With every step, Halley felt the relief of being away from her parents. Each step felt like someone taking a kilogram of lead off of her shoulders and throwing it away. Of course, her mother's presence was always with her—and not in a good way; it was hard to shake off all the years of punishments, screaming, and pain. The only time Halley felt truly free of her mother was when she was alone with her friends.
Halley excused herself through the crowds of seventh years saying goodbye to their parents once more before going on the trip.
The trip was an exciting event for selected seventh-year students. They were going to be travelling to different wizarding communities to learn how they worked and functioned. Every seventh-year student that didn't fail the seventh year and whose parents allowed them to go was attending. They were supposed to be able to write an eleven-inch essay on the trip, which was the whole reason for the trip. Halley, however, was sure it was just so that everyone could try to have fun in times of war. No one knew where they were going yet—part of the surprise—so they had packed as if they were going to the Sahara desert and the Arctic Circle on the same day.
"Hello, Halley," Hel said with a smile. Halley noticed her illusion was off; half her face and her hand were dead. "Father, Mother, you know Halley," Hel said as she turned to her parents and waved a hand towards Halley. Halley smiled softly and waved hello to Loki and Sigyn, both smiling warmly at her.
"Hello, Mister Odinson, Miss Iwaldidottir," Halley said politely with a tiny bow. The two were technically royalty of Asgard after all...technically. From what Hel told her, Loki was both Odin's blood brother and the kind-of adopted son of Queen Frigg. This meant that he was a prince from being a brother of the king, and prince since he was the son of the queen. Because Sigyn was Loki's wife, she was also a princess of Asgard. While in many modern countries like Britain, Hel would've technically been a duchess, but Hel explained that on Asgard that was all just too complicated. She was simply a princess and could legally take the throne of Asgard.
"Hello to you too Miss Black," Sigyn said, her eyes like warm summer fields. Sigyn then turned to Hel. "We're going to go talk to the Potters, one more hug?"
Hel smiled before turning to Halley, "You go ahead and get on the train, I'll be right there," she said.
Halley smiled but she knew why Hel sent her away. She didn't want Halley to feel any kind of sadness for not having a family like Hel's—a mother (granted, Sigyn was her step-mother) and father who both loved you more than life itself. Halley was okay with it, though. She knew what kind of family she'd grown up in; Hel knew the kind of family Halley had grown up in. Halley was used to not being part of a happy family. Hel needn't spare her.
Nonetheless, Halley got on the train and went to the usual compartment. She found it empty and smiled as she sat down. It was the Marauders cabinet, the Marauders usually sat there along with Lily and Halley. Of course, some people would pop in every now and then—usually Hel or one of the other friends of the Marauders.
Halley waited for a moment as she played with Loki, gently brushing her pointer finger over the top of his little black head. Halley then heard Hel's footsteps and turned to the door to find Hel with her raven Ganglati in his cage. Halley smiled and then blushed when she saw who was right behind Hel.
"Come here," Lily said with a smile as she gently put her owl Iris's cage down in a seat and opened up her arms.
Halley smiled brightly as she threw herself into Lily's arms, burying her face in the crook of Lily's neck. Lily always smelled like freshly planted flowers, and Halley absolutely loved it.
"I missed you," they both said at the same time as they pulled away from each other and they laughed. It had been a day since they'd last seen each other, but it felt like an eternity. Halley had been counting down the hours until she was able to see Lily again, and the rest of her friends for that matter.
Halley pecked Lily's on the lips as fast as possible before she heard a voice screech out.
"GUESS WHICH SON OF A BITCH IS HERE? THAT'S RIGHT, I've arrived!" Sirius screamed out and Hel quickly dodged a sloppy kiss from Sirius, chuckling as she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek instead.
Halley just smiled and waited to see the rest of the Marauders were going to come in—James and Remus. Oh, and Peter. Halley momentarily forgot his existence; it seemed to happen quite a bit, actually.
Halley scooched over to the window seat as Lily scooted in beside her with Remus at the aisle seat. She was sitting across from James with Peter diagonal to her and Sirius in the aisle seat. Hel stood at the door since there wasn't much room for her.
"I hope we all get to go to the same countries—or cities—for the trip!" Lily said with a smile as she pushed her braid off of her shoulder.
"Me too," Halley said with a smile as she leaned slightly on Lily—enough to make her feel like she was closer to Lily, but enough so that no one else in the compartment was suspicious of a relationship. Granted, she wasn't really that worried. James was as observant as a brick wall. Sirius noticed things, but he was too infatuated with Hel to really notice much. Oh, and Peter was there too, but he was an idiot and less observant than James. "They'll probably keep us together, though."
The month before the last day of the seventh year, everyone was required to write one to seven people they wanted to spend their holiday with. Halley had put down Hel, Lily, the Marauders, and Regulus, hoping she would be able to spend a lovely holiday in a different Wizarding community with them.
"I've got to go, the Death Eaters await.," Hel said in a slightly sarcastic tone. As everyone said bye to Hel, she and Halley locked eyes. Hel understood what Halley was asking and nodded. Halley merely hoped that Hel would keep an eye out for Regulus.
After Hel left, James and Sirius listed off about all the different places they could go to. Apparently, the duo thought that memorizing the different places they could go to for holiday was more important than the spells that could save their life one day. Remus and Lily chimed in every now and then with little facts that they knew about each place. Halley smiled. Now, this was her family—Hel and Regulus too,, of course. Family wasn't your DNA, it was who you chose to spend your life with. What was that old saying? Blood doesn't make a family; love does.

Ddraig held his pet fox Slei in his arms, Slei's carrier hanging off of his elbow. They had been feeling vaguely masculine that moment, going by he/they pronouns for the minute. Ddraig pet Slei while walking through the castle, only stopping after hearing a familiar voice.
"Want a pencil?" The voice asked, and Ddraig sighed.
"Spencer Malfoy," Ddraig said. He turned around to find a grinning Spencer with a pencil in his hand.
"Dray Dray!" Spender said, finger gunning Ddraig.
Ddraig rolled his eyes, but couldn't help but smile just a bit at the whole goofy aura Spencer had. They continued walking into the castle, Spencer close behind them, ranting his mouth off—something Ddraig was used to. The two were friends, after all, logical Ddraig and crazy Spencer. It was a fun and beneficial friendship, in Ddraig's opinion.
Ddraig managed to get into the Great Hall without having to talk to anyone, and they turned to Spencer.
"So, here's to hoping we end up in the same place?" Ddraig said as he held out his hand for Spencer to shake. A silent agreement passed through the two: and in the same place as Regulus. Spencer grinned before enthusiastically shaking Draig's hand and skipping away to the Hufflepuff table. Ddraig watched as he immediately found another friend to talk to—Matthew Carter.
As an explanation to those with a lower IQ than Ddraig's (which, let's face it, is just about everyone), both Ddraig and Spencer were dating Regulus: they were a polyamorous couple. Granted, they all had to keep it a secret since Regulus had an unforgiving family. Coming out would almost definitely result in him getting disowned—or worse. Just look at Sirius: he came out as bisexual and got shoved out of the house faster than you could say homophobe. There was Spencer too, for that matter. He came out to the Malfoys as pansexual, and then he got disowned as well. Both were lucky that the Potters were such an amazing family. Euphemia and Fleamont picked both of them up and called them their own.
Ddraig walked over to the Slytherin table and set Slei in their lap with the fox's carrier on the floor underneath their seat. Before he looked away from the carrier, something yellow inside caught his eye—a pencil in Slei's carrier. Ddraig rolled his eyes before pocketing it. He had a plethora of pencils from being friends with Spencer, and he kept them all.
Ddraig instinctively hid Slei from view by hugging him, although technically he was allowed to be there right now. The seventh years would only be in there for half an hour—at the most—before they would be heading to their holiday destination. Because of this, the professors had seen no point in putting the owls in the owlery, letting the cats roam free, and putting the toads in the dorms.
Ddraig pet Slei's head as he waited for everyone to arrive. He saw Hel and Regulus come in together, with Hel in front. She looked to be protecting him, in a way, and he kept on pulling his left sleeve down further and further. Ddraig frowned, remembering that Regulus had gotten the Dark Mark and probably wasn't comfortable about it. But when Regulus smiled softly at him, he couldn't help but smile back before Regulus aimed his gaze over to Spencer.
A few seconds later, everyone was in the Great Hall. Dumbledore stepped up to his podium, ready to give the announcement.
"After reviewing all of your papers of who wanted to be with whom, we have been able to decide which students are going to which wizarding community. Note that this has no bias backing it."
Ddraig nearly snorted. Even a blind person could see that Headmaster Dumbledore had a preference for the Gryffindors. There was no need for a high IQ to realize that.
"Each professor will announce a group. When your group is called, please head to that professor. The professors are in the back of the Great Hall if you could turn your attention to them. Please listen closely for your holiday destination," Headmaster Dumbledore said and waved his hand to the back of the Great Hall.
Ddraig turned to see the professors in the back. Professor McGonagall stepped forward and adjusted her square frame glasses. "The students whose names I call out shall be going to Asgard," Professor McGonagall announced.
Although there were many gasps and excited chattering, Ddraig was not surprised. Whether it was because he had a high IQ or because he was simply not an idiot—likely both—he had seen this coming. Two literal goddesses went to Hogwarts—Hel Lokidottir and Astrid Thordottir—and both of them were Æsir goddesses that came from Asgard. He was quite surprised that no one else had deduced this, though he supposed that he oughtn't to be surprised considering all the idiots in this school. Of course, Hel must've known—Ddraig turned to look at the goddess and saw that she looked to be quite pleased with herself.
"Minakshi Bhosale, Halley Black, Regulus Black, Sirius Black, Matthew Carter, Ddraig Dee, Lily Evans, Hel Lokidottir, Remus Lupin, Spencer Malfoy, Adalina Narvaez, Peter Pettigrew, James Potter and Severus Snape," Professor McGonagall called out.
Ddraig smiled to themself. At least he had gotten what he wanted: Regulus and Spencer were going to be at the same place as him.
Ddraig picked up Slei's carrier and walked over, as the other fourteen people were doing. They scrunched up their nose slightly when they saw Lily. Unlike practically the rest of Hogwarts—excluding the Blood Supremacists, of course—they were not on the best terms with her. Apparently, they were too devious and too manipulative for Lily. They were fine with her thinking that as long as she minded her own business.
Ddraig waited as everyone walked over to the professor. James had to chase his owl Olympia for a good few seconds around the Great Hall and eventually, desperately called out "Accio!" Once everyone was gathered, Professor McGonagall took them outside to the entrance of Hogwarts.
"While everyone else will be travelling to their holiday destinations via floo powder, you fifteen are exceptions," McGonagall said with a twinkle in her eye, as if it wasn't the first time that these fifteen had been special. "Since Asgard is a realm outside of Midgard, you'll be travelling via Bifrost. I trust that Hel can explain the Bifrost to those of you that aren't already familiar with it?" McGonagall glanced at Hel, who nodded. McGonagall smiled and said, "I'll be back in a moment; I need to go contact the god that will be supervising your journey." After affirming that no one had immediate questions, she hurried off towards the Great Lake.
Hel then turned to the group and stood up straighter—if that was even possible. Ddraig could practically see the imaginary bejewelled ebony crown on her head. She then began to speak about the Bifrost.
"In my mythology, the Bifröst—also known as the Bilröst—is a burning rainbow bridge that reaches between Midgard and Asgard. It is also a mode of transportation used by the gods for travelling from realm to realm." Hel lectured as if she'd recited it a thousand times, which she probably had. "Of course, you don't have to use the Bifröst. There are secret passageways between the realms that even Heimdall cannot see. The only person who knows of these passageways is my father, Loki. " Hel looked proud when she said this. "If you are a powerful enough magician, though, like my Aunt Freyja or my grandmother Frigg, you can travel via magic. Once I get older I could potentially travel across the realms using shadow-travel, but I don't expect that to happen for another thousand years." Hel finished. Ddraig, fascinated, held onto every word like glue on fabric.
He would be lying if he said he didn't admire Hel. She was the daughter of the god he looked up to most, after all. Although he already knew most of the facts she'd recited about the Bifrost, it was still interesting to hear her explain them.
A few moments later, Professor McGonagall came back with a certain someone who glowed slightly of green godly energy. Ddraig noted, with a bit of surprise, that Professor McGonagall was also glowing faintly, though she was glowing more silver than green. Perhaps it was from being in such close proximity to a god.
"Father!" Hel said with a smile. Loki grinned.
"Hullo, dearest," Loki said, green eyes twinkling. Ddraig saw him shift to a female-presenting form for a split second, and then to one where his hair looked to be made of fire and his eyes of flames, before back to a man with lightly curled black hair, twinkling green eyes that looked like they held the all the mischief of the world and a completely black suit.
"Thank you for agreeing to this Loki. How is Asgard right now? How is dear Frigg?" Professor McGonagall asked, her accent shifting from Scottish to Greek or maybe Latin.
"She's doing fine," Loki said, eyes shining.
"And your wife? Sigyn?"
"Amazingly, as beautiful and healthy as the day I met her." Loki smiled.
"And your children?"
"They are all fine, Minvera," Loki said with a smile before taking his hand off of Professor McGonagall's elbow. "Now, you all are going to Asgard, so I have a few ground rules before we go."
Ddraig heard a few soft pouts at the mention of rules, but other than that, everyone shut up. Loki radiated an aura of power, an aura Ddraig hoped to radiate. Perhaps not to the extent of Loki, since he was a literal god, but close enough.
"If something looks like it could kill you, it probably can and will. If it looks innocent, it could probably kill you." Loki began. So basically, everything could kill them.
"I wouldn't talk to any of the gods unless they specifically approach you. There are a few exceptions to this. My brother Thor, for one. You may feel free to approach him if you aren't afraid of seven-foot giants. There is also my lovely wife Sigyn—strawberry blonde hair, amber eyes, and usually carrying grain or surrounded by children. She loves everyone and is a real sweetheart. You may also speak to Frigg, who is a bit older and has curly blonde hair and pure gold eyes." Loki continued. Ddraig stored the descriptions of the gods as he was trying not to get killed these days.
"Also, once you arrive at the gates of Asgard, do not go in and explore just yet. Hel will give you a tour supervised by Frigg so that you don't get lost and end up in a cupboard with a flesh-eating demon," Loki finished. After everyone agreed to the rules, Loki started to talk about other things.
"You will be staying in one of the towers in the Golden Palace, which is where the Æsir gods live. It will be luxurious. Each of you will have a floor to yourself for whatever needs you have, and, of course, a bathroom connected. You will dine in a separate room from the gods if you wish, but if you feel brave enough, you are allowed to dine with us." Loki explained. Then he took his hand off of Professor McGonagall's arm and pressed a kiss to her knuckles.
"As for the Bifrost situation, we will travel in groups of two. First will be the group going with Hel and then the one with me. I will go first." Loki then walked over to where Ddraig was. "What's your name?" he asked.
"Ddraig, Ddraig Drygioni Dee," Ddraig said calmly, but he was utterly ecstatic on the inside. Here they were, standing in front of the god they looked up to the most, and he had just asked Ddraig his name.
"Alright, Mx Dee, Mister Regulus, Mister Snape, Mister Pettigrew, Miss Narvaez, Mister Malfoy, and Mister Carter can come with me. Gather around me,'' Loki said. Ddraig did as he was told. Ddraig didn't like to listen to people, but when Loki told you to do something, you should probably do it.
"Heimdall!" Loki yelled to the sky. A beam of white light with multicoloured flecks in it rained down in a circle around them.
The sensation felt strange to Ddraig. It was like the feeling you get when you ride a roller coaster, except upside-down. Everything was bright—all Ddraig could see was light surrounding them. A few seconds later, they landed in a golden dome of sorts. Ddraig looked up to see who could only be Heimdall with a sword in his hand—Hǫfuð, or the Bifrost Sword, if Ddraig was remembering correctly—and he always remembered correctly.
Loki led them out of the golden dome and Ddraig got his first glimpse of Asgard.
Ddraig's mouth nearly dropped. Words could not describe the beauty of the golden palace. It was taller than any building he had ever seen and radiated with shining golden light. The whole place was stunning. Ddraig could feel the power radiating from the palace from a long way away. The palace commanded respect—not just the gods that lived there. The palace would probably bring most people to their knees.
Ddraig heard everyone else join them, but he focused on the Golden Palace. He would be staying there for three months. Amazing.
ᗩᔕTᖇIᗪ'ᔕ ᑭOIᑎT Oᖴ ᐯIᗴᗯ:
Astrid giggled as she waited in the stables next to the golden dome to surprise everyone. Being an Æsir goddess (well, still technically a fledgling goddess like Hel) Astrid lived on Asgard. Astrid poked her head out, her blonde curls bouncing as she did. She had to hold a hand over her mouth to stop from squealing in excitement and happiness at what she saw.
Everybody looked overwhelmingly excited to see Asgard—except for Hel, of course. Astrid could even see the tiniest bit of childish wonder in her eyes, though. Even the Marauders, Halley, Matthew, and Lily, who had been there before, looked at the Golden Palace in wonder.
To expand a bit on the "cousin of Hel'' thing—Astrid was Hel's younger cousin. She was in the sixth year, so she wasn't chosen for the holiday program. She wasn't crazy intelligent like Regulus, even if she was a goddess but she happened to live at one of the holiday destinations so everything worked out. Astrid was the daughter of Thor, thunder god almighty, but she knew her dad was a big marshmallow who happened to be the physically strongest god on Asgard. Astrid herself was the goddess of beauty and a minor goddess of hope and lightning. If she were to phrase her titles like Hel, she figured it'd be something like Astrid Thordottir, Princess of Asgard, Daughter of Thor, Goddess of Beauty, Minor Goddess of Hope and Lighting. But in her opinion, that was way too formal, so she stuck to Astrid Thordottir.
Apparently, Astrid wasn't good at hiding, because Matthew managed to find her in about five seconds.
"ASTY!" Matthew screamed, his southern American accent about as prominent as Sol was in the sky.
"MATTY!" Astrid screamed back as she practically leapt out of the stables and ran to hug Matthew. They crashed together in a fit of laughter as they squeezed each other.
"Oh my gods, I've missed you, Matt!" Astrid said as she squeezed her best friend tightly. She thought the height difference was hilarious. She was about half a foot shorter than Matthew. Being 5'2", she clearly hadn't inherited the tall genes from her dad.
"It's only been a day, but I missed you too!" Matthew yelled as he let go of Astrid and walked to hold hands with Peter. Astrid noticed he still had on the yellow friendship bracelet she had given him a few months ago. His old one had fallen off since he wore it all the time. Astrid herself had all the friendship bracelets people had made and refused to take them off, even at balls. This meant she had a wrist with a ton of friendship bracelets on them and she loved each and every one of them.
"Hey sweetheart," James said as he held out his arms for Astrid.
Astrid practically squealed as she leapt into James's arms. Since he was a good eight inches taller than her, she ended up wrapping her legs around his waist and holding onto his neck before giving him a big kiss on the lips. She felt James chuckle into the kiss as he held Astrid up and she giggled as her face bumped slightly on James's glasses.
Astrid heard Hel clear her throat behind them. "If the happy couple could stop snogging, that would be most lovely. You can do that later, cousin mine," Hel said politely and Astrid turned around and grinned sheepishly before nimbly getting off of James. She held onto his hand, though. She wasn't letting that go anytime soon.
"Thank you, Astrid, James," Hel said. Her "James" sounded a little more forced. "We should begin the tour by going to the stables and mounting some horses to ride across the Rainbow Bridge. You do not want to run the entire length unless you are my uncle Thor," Hel explained, sounding like every bit of the queen she was destined to be.
Astrid smiled at Hel with pride. She was always as proud of her older cousin and loved her with every fibre of her being. She knew Hel was proud of her and loved her more than all the gods in the nine realms—which was a ton.
"Before you go, my dear, would any of you like to give your animals to me so I can take them to their rightful spots? We do have an owlery here, you know. We aren't peasants." Loki said. Astrid watched as everyone handed their pets to her uncle except for Ddraig and Hel. Hel simply opened Ganglati's cage and let him take off into the air while Ddraig handed Loki Slei's carrier and kept Slei. A second later, after kissing both Hel and Astrid's knuckles, Loki disappeared in a flash of green magic, taking the pets along with him.
"Now we can head to the stables," Hel said. Upon their arrival at the stables, Astrid asked a question.
"Do you want to ride Slei—our Slei, Sleipinr—or shall I?" Astrid asked.
"It's up to you," Hel said simply and Astrid grinned.
"Well, I did ride him here, so it's only fair for you to get a turn," Astrid said as Hel nodded.
"If you were wondering, yes, two people can ride one horse," Hel said as she mounted Sleipinr, but Astrid quickly walked over to where Ddraig and Slei were and stopped Hel from moving.
"Hold on, I want to introduce them!" Astrid said, smiling. "Slei, this is Sleipinr. Sleipinr, this is Slei." Astrid said, introducing her other cousin to her friend's fox.
Sleipinr whinnied happily and Slei made a little fox noise, so Astrid took it to mean that the two were going to get along fine.
Astrid saw Hel roll her eyes, but not without a hint of a smile on her face as Sirius mounted Sleipimr behind her. Astrid walked over to where James was already mounting a beautiful golden brown horse and Astrid started to mount the same horse.
"Her name's Aldís," Astrid said with a smile as she grabbed the golden reins of Aldís's harness. She felt James wrap his arms around her waist and she giggled softly as she leaned into his touch. Soon, they were off.
"I have a question," Adalina asked. Astrid turned around to see Adalina riding her horse backwards. Honestly, Astrid wasn't really surprised by the action. Being weird was fun, after all, and Adalina was known for her weirdness. "Why's the sun still out?"
Hel whispered something in Sleipinr's ear and he trotted backwards. Astrid knew he was capable of travelling at the speed of light, and the other horses looked like they were annoyed by the prospect of such a thing.
"We had a double night last night. Sol wanted a break and Màni was bored, so everything worked out." Hel explained. Astrid could see her itching to add, "you should always keep your subjects happy so no wars happen while maintaining your authority at the same time."
Before Astrid could mention this, Hel said, "I've been meaning to ask, Astrid, why are you here?"
"Oh," Astrid said, a bright smile on her face. "Last night, after you talked about how some students were coming to Asgard, I asked Dad and Grandmum if I could be here to greet you guys and help you with the tour and they said yes," Astrid explained.
"Fair enough. I don't question Grandmum." Hel said. She then turned to everyone else. "That's Queen Frigg to you all. I wouldn't disrespect my grandmother unless you wish to face the wrath of about every Nordic god in the nine realms, and some other gods as well," she warned with a stern face.
"I can tell you right now that I will not disrespect your queen. From what I hear, she sounds like ¡una mujer asombrosa!" Adalina said brightly as she shifted on her horse to face the proper way. Astrid chuckled when she saw how Adalina's mouth dropped when she saw the golden palace close up.
Astrid nervously giggled when she saw the slightly terrified looks of some of the students behind her. But when they got to the gates of the Golden Palace Astrid smiled at the amazement on everyone's faces. She looked above her and saw the wonder on James's face, and pecked him on the cheek.
The Marauders, Halley, Matthew, and Lily had been to Asgard before in their third year as a treat from Astrid and Hel. On top of that, James had visited during the summer of the fifth year to spend more time with Astrid and Sirius had visited in the summer of the sixth year to see Hel. Despite this, they all still looked utterly amazed by the gorgeous palace close up. Astrid grinned ear to ear as she guided Aldís to stand beside Hel, Sirius, and Sleipinr.
"Welcome to Asgard, our beautiful home! Quick warning, don't touch anything you think you shouldn't touch or that someone says you shouldn't touch or you'll probably be cursed, poisoned, hurt, or killed. Now if you follow us, we'll show you around," Astrid said, her voice as bouncy as her blonde curls of hair. Those were rehearsed words she practised all morning. Out of the corner of her eye, Astrid saw Hel sigh and shake her head with a smile.
"First, Astrid, the stables," Hel said, "Oh, and my brother here, Sleipinr—yes, he is my brother, I'll explain during the tour—would like to demonstrate his powers. Astrid can show you to the stables." A split second later Hel, Sirius, and Sleipinr were gone.
"¡Santo infierno! ¡Ese caballo es rápido!" Adalina said.
"Yeah, he is," Astrid said. She was sure Adalina said something along the lines of, "Holy hell! That horse is fast!" It was required for a princess of Asgard to learn multiple languages. She had been taught all the major European languages since birth, but she was better at their slang than all the professional words. Hel, though, knew all of those professional-sounding words and all the politics, so the two girls were a perfect balance. "He is the fastest horse in the nine realms, with his eight legs and all."
After a few minutes, they arrived at the stables, where Hel and Sirius were already talking to Frigg. They all let their horses graze in the field next to the stables before continuing with the tour.
"And here's the entrance to our home! Behind the palace is where the normal Asgardians like nymphs, really really minor gods, demigods, creatures, or maybe even mortals the gods favour or mortals who are under the gods' protection live." Astrid said enthusiastically, one hand holding James's and the other waving a hand to the entrance to the palace.
"Don't touch any statues once we've gone in; most of them house unruly spirits not fit for the mortal touch," Hel warned as she walked in. Once she entered the threshold, her casual dress and hair turned more luxurious. Her dress turned into one which looked to be made of the finest silk woven with shadows and a waspie (fancy name for a small corset) which looked like armour around her waist. Her hair was done in beautiful braids and a tiara with black diamonds shimmered into form on her head. Hel's shoes turned into black stilettos heels four inches tall (which made her a tad bit taller than Sirius) with heels that could cut flesh.
Astrid smiled brightly as she bounced over the threshold line and into the palace. Her casual dress turned into a gorgeous long Asgardian robe which looked to be made of the lightest of pink clouds with the power of lightning bolts mixed in it. A small light gold, almost silver, looking fabric was wrapped around her waist with matching colour chains on her right shoulder with elegant draping down her arm and connected to her waist. Her hair was done up in smaller braids than Hel, leaving room for those bouncy curls and a light gold tiara with diamonds on her head (she could see her reflection in the gold of the palace). Her shoes turned into soft golden heels which were shorter than Hel's but still pretty tall, plus more comfortable.
"Woah," James said his eyes wide open and his mouth dropped. Sirius did the same while looking at Hel.
Astrid giggled and blushed. "Yeah, your guys' turn!"
Everyone stepped over the threshold and their clothes instantaneously turned into Asgardian robes. Granted, they were less extravagant than Hel and Astrid's, but Astrid thought the robes looked better than what they had been wearing before.
"These are illusions created by a barrier right at the entrance of the palace," Hel explained. "These are technically not real. If you were to take off your clothes—don't do it—" Hel sent a look right to James, Sirius, Spencer, and Adalina "—they would return back to what your normal clothes look like. Though, if you didn't like your old clothes, if we come across Freyja I can ask her to add some magic to your clothes so they will stay this way," she added.
As everyone followed Hel, Astrid kept an eye out for people straying off course—people about to touch the things they were showing or people talking to some of the gods they passed by.
"A lot of the gods here have illusion clothes on. Most of them are technically naked, save for maybe some sort of underwear—if you're lucky. But don't worry. Since you all are visiting, they probably have their real robes on. If you'd like to learn more about illusion magic, you can my father, Loki, or my wonderful grandmum Frigg." Hel explained as her black stilettos clicked on the gold marvel floors.
Astrid heard chattering and saw Spencer about to pet a marvel statue of a beautiful golden retriever dog.
"Don't touch that if you value your eyeballs, Spence!" Astrid said. Spencer quickly whipped his head around and had a face that made Astrid giggle a bit—he looked like one of those puppies who had gotten caught eating a chair leg. "That statue holds a spirit that had a thing for gouging out people's eyes," Astrid explained with a smile. She was quite used to weird spirits, demons, nymphs, or even gods trapped in random items. Once she had been blasted back by a field of blue magic after she touched a pretty normal looking pen.
Spencer looked at the statue and back to Astrid before giving a thumbs up with a wide and slightly terrified looking smile.
The tour was pretty quick. They only touched the basics: dungeons, arena, food hall, kitchens, ballroom, and most of the courtyard. If they wanted to give a tour of the entire palace, they'd probably be there for a full week! They arrived at the entrance of the tower in which everyone was staying. Grandmum Frigg, Grandaunt Fulla, Aunt Freyja, Uncle Loki, Aunt Sigyn, and her dad (bless him, he had tried to help) had all had major parts in figuring out how the trip was going to go. They decided that instead of Hel and Astrid having to stay in their own bedrooms, they should have a floor to themselves in the guest tower along with everyone else.
"And this is the tower where you all will be staying!" Astrid said, going over to the silvery gold gate that covered the entrance to the tower. She placed her palm on the circular space open and said the word to open the door loudly so everyone knew what it was.
"Hurðaopinn," Astrid said. The gate shimmered a light pink until it disappeared. Astrid turned around and smiled as everyone looked intrigued. Astrid stepped over where a normal door would be and the gate shimmered back into existence.
"Thank you for the lovely demonstration, Astrid," Hel said with a faint smile, nodding her head slightly in Astrid's direction as Astrid whispered the enchantment again to go back to the other side. "The gate uses magic. Be wary though, since not only does it know your voice, but it also knows your hand and aura. The gate can sense who is who. It's not sentient, unfortunately, but it still knows. While Astrid's shimmered light pink, mine would be different. We have tested the gate out with mortals, but you all could react differently," Hel explained before walking over to the gate copying what Astrid did. Instead of the gate shimmering light pink, it shimmered dark green, almost black, until it disappeared.
"You all can experiment later, but for now, if my lovely grandmother could keep the gate open as all of you step through so I can show you around?" Hel asked, focusing her eyes on Frigg.
"Of course, sweetheart," Frigg said with a smile as she waved her hand. Astrid could sense the spell had broken for a little bit.

Spencer leapt through the doorway like a ballerina. He heard sniggers behind him but he didn't care. He liked to make people laugh even if it meant him acting like an idiot. Granted, he kind of was an idiot in general, but at least he was funny!
Spencer looked around, his eyes widening as his mouth formed a perfect "o". The main floor was magnificent! It was more beautiful than the Malfoy manor home—although that could be because that house was about as dark and dreary as mould—and much more extravagant than anything he'd ever seen.
His eye caught the gigantic Roman-style fainting sofa looking thing first though, and he immediately ran and lept onto it. He smashed his face on the pillow that felt softer than powdered snow.
"IT'S SO SOFT!" Spencer yelled, slightly muffled by the pillow.
Spencer heard a few groans from where everyone was standing, but mostly giggles, which he was quite proud of.
Spencer popped his head up to see Hel—who at first looked as if she might strangle him half to Helheim—roll her eyes as her mouth inched up in a slight smile. Spencer smiled brightly, showing all of his teeth to the group.
Then as Spencer was getting up so that he was sitting "the proper way", a collection of green energy formed at the gate and Loki appeared. He pressed his hand to the gate and muttered the magic words and the gate dissolved in bright green magic.
"Hello again, children," Loki said, but Spencer noticed that he looked like a woman. Her hair was long and slightly curly, she had boobs, she had a smaller waist, and she had an outfit change. "I'd just like to inform you that Freyja decided that it would be a wonderful idea to have a welcoming ball. I would've warned you all sooner, I swear, but this was a last-minute decision," Loki informed everyone, her voice higher than before.
Spencer heard everyone muttering things, mostly about how cool that sounded. Spencer looked at Regulus, and he could tell his boyfriend was a little concerned and a little intrigued. Both boys came from rich pureblooded backgrounds, and so they had been to more than their fair share of balls in their lifetime. But an Asgardian ball would be so much fun, and maybe Spencer could somehow discreetly take Regulus away and *ahem* have some fun!
"Oh, Freyja dear," Queen Frigg said, a puff of punch coloured smoke appearing at the gate. The magic words were whispered and the gates glowed a darkish pink colour before a beautiful woman with bright blue eyes and flowing blonde hair came into the room.
Spencer blushed and averted his eyes bringing his hand up to his face in sort of a salute to cover his eyes. The woman was basically naked, and while she did have a stunning body, Spencer did not need to see all that.
Even without looking at the woman—who was probably the goddess Freyja—Spencer could see everyone was also flustered and was trying to avoid looking at the goddess. Except for the other gods in the room of course, who looked a tad bit exasperated.
"Freyja, your clothes," Queen Frigg said. Spencer heard a small high-pitched snicker.
"I forgot about the Midgardians," Freyja said in a high-pitched voice. After a moment, Spencer dared to take a peek to see if she was wearing clothes and thank god—would it be more appropriate to say gods?—she was.
"Yet you decided it'd be the best idea to hold a welcoming ball in their honour without telling us prior?" Loki asked her arms crossed over her chest and her hip jutted out a tad.
"Oh don't worry, I've already convinced Sol to stay in the sky for a little while longer than usual, and Mani's completely fine with it."
"And how did you do that?" Hel asked, exasperated. She looked like she already knew the answer.
"I know what they like, of course," Freyja said, giggling. The innocent smile on her face contradicted her not-so-innocent and power-filled eyes. From what Hel had told Spencer about Freyja, she was one of the most powerful goddesses on Asgard. From just looking into her bright blue eyes, he could see why.
Queen Frigg sighed, "Alright, well, I'm sure you have places to be then?" she asked Freyja. She looked quite exhausted by Freyja, but at the same time amused.
"Of course, thank you, your majesty," Freyja said, bowing low. Spencer squeaked and covered his eyes with his hands since Freyja bowed really low so that certain, er, body parts, were very clearly visible. Spencer could hear Freyja chuckle at everyone, and he assumed that was her goal.
"We're on the same power level Freyja, no need for bowing," Queen Frigg. When Spencer took his hands away from his eyes, he saw Freyja wink at Queen Frigg before disappearing in a poof.
Queen Frigg turned to Hel and Astrid and said, "I trust you two to help them get prepared when the time comes?"
"Of course, Grandmother," Astrid and Hel said in unison. Queen Frigg smiled before nodding to Loki, who immediately walked over and offered Frigg her elbow. The two left.
Hel then whipped around to face everyone. "The ball is later, so you needn't worry about it right now. For now, explore the palace. Astrid and I would like to ensure that you won't die by doing something stupid, so..." Hel clapped her hands together twice, sending a small wave of dark green magic everywhere. Astrid copied her movements, sending a wave of light pink magic everywhere.
Then, at the gate popped up a few girls varying in age. As they came in, some walked over to Hel and some walked over to Astrid. Spencer tilted his head and a list of possible titles flew through his head ranging from, "other princesses," to "pets." Don't judge him, he didn't know the customs on Asgard.
"Your highnesses," The girls said, curtsying before Hel and Astrid. While Astrid giggled and waved hi, Hel kept a royal look on her face and smirked, clearly enjoying her power.
"These are our handmaidens, well, our friends really," Astrid explained with a smile, "We can order them to make sure you guys don't get killed."
"Unless of course, we secretly order them to make sure you do get killed," Hel said, glancing at a certain greasy someone. Spencer was delighted at that moment that he was Hel's friend, and he gave a nervous thumbs up with a strained smile.
"She's kidding, of course," Astrid said with a bright smile, probably to compensate for Hel's threatening words.
Spencer looked back over to Hel and her face said otherwise. Instead of agreeing with Astrid—which would've been reassuring—Hel explained that she would send a handmaiden with each person, and if they weren't comfortable with a handmaiden, they could ask for a manservant ... damn that sounded wrong.
She also explained the room situation. Everyone's name would be on their door and it would not open to anyone other than the people they were comfortable with letting in (it was some magicky charm thingamabobber). Then she headed up the golden (Spencer was convinced almost everything was golden there) staircase surrounding the room (like, it was literally connected to the walls). As she did though, she looked over the rail and asked everyone something.
"If you could please tell me your secret relationships or sexualities, genders, anything. No one is going to judge you here. More than three-fourths of the gods aren't straight or cisgender anyway, so it'd be hypocrisy. No one is going to report back to the parents, except for maybe Snape," Hel glared at Snape, who just crouched lower into his shirt, "But even if he does, he will face the wrath of about, oh, let's say about a hundred or so gods, so I don't expect anyone will. If you don't disclose these things to us, just know that the gods will start shipping people, and when they do, terrible things happen. I'll pray for you all that Aphrodite doesn't come visiting."
Hel waited for a moment before nodding her head. "Fine, but just know all the gods are fine with it," she said before waking up the steps. Apparently, she wanted to show off her powers though (or she just got tired) so she stopped and the shadows collected around her, taking her away.
Everyone looked at each other and around before heading off to do their own things. Spencer decided the best course of action was to ask his handmaiden (oh that sounded way too weird for him) to just do whatever she wanted for a bit. He then sprinted up the stairs like an idiot with his hands behind his back. He reached a door and sadly he had to open it. It led to a rather creepy looking staircase. They obviously tried to make it look homey, but they only got halfway there.
Spencer quickly walked up the staircase before seeing a shadow and turning around to find Sirius standing behind him with a grin on his face.
"So, are the rooms any good?" Spencer asked, even though he already knew the answer (the rest of the castle was just about as gorgeous as the morning sun).
Sirius practically vibrated as he got a bright grin on his face—the same kind of grin that a kid would get in a candy shop. "Oh, they're beautiful! The gods somehow know everything about you. What kind of bed you like, what colours you like, if you're afraid of heights, if you like being the tallest. It's fucking creepy but the rooms are just," Sirius pressed his fingers to his mouth and kissed them before spreading his hands out everywhere in a more dramatic kind of chef's kiss. Sirius regained his posture then. "I'm pretty sure the last time we were here, the top one was Hel, then Astrid, then me, then James, so you guys are probably near the middle. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a queen to attend to," Sirius said with a wink before practically sprinting up the stairs.
Spencer grinned the same grin as he also ran up the stairs, looking at all the doors, trying to find the one with his name on it. Right as he did, he saw a shadow (look, when you grew up with his kind of parents, and your brother was Lucius Malfoy, you learned that you should watch out for shadows) and quickly turned around to find a smiling Regulus.
Spencer looked behind Regulus and didn't see anyone else popping up so he quickly hugged Regulus and picked him up while spinning around, "Reggie! I haven't even gotten to say hello to you properly!" Spencer said as he hugged his boyfriend tightly.
"I pulled you into an empty compartment and snogged you," Regulus said, and when Spencer pulled away, he saw that Regulus had a smile on his face.
"Still not a proper hello!" Spencer said with a smile. Before he could do anything, he felt two fingers on his chin as Regulus pressed his lips to Spencer's in a soft kiss. Sure they were closer to the "oh my god fuck me right now" on the lovey-dovey scale, but hell did Regulus's soft kisses make the butterflies in Spencer's stomach have a party.
"I love you Regulus," Spencer said with a smile when they pulled away. Regulus just chuckled.
"I love you too Spencer," Regulus said. "But we should probably find our rooms."
Spencer agreed happily before running back up the stairs before a bright yellow door caught his eye. He backtracked a bit and looked at the label "Spencer Malfoy" with a little sun at the top.
"FOUND MINE!" Spencer screeched as he pointed to the label, much to the amusement of Regulus, who chuckled at his antics. Spencer opened the door and bounced right in, his jaw dropping at the sight.
The room was stunning. Everything was bright and colourful and there were a lot of yellows—like a lot. He loved it. Spencer's eyes immediately headed over to the gigantic white bed (with yellow blankets and pillows varying in shades of yellow) as he ran over to it, leaping a few inches away from it so he landed in the dead centre of the bed. He grunted softly because it kind of hurt but he flailed his arms and legs in excitement.
"THIS IS SO COOL!" Spencer yelled and he heard chuckling before one side of the bed dipped down just a tad.
"Yeah, it is, wanna come find mine?" Regulus asked and Spencer's head popped up like a groundhog deciding if it was spring or not.
"Absolutely!" Spencer said before he leapt up and ran out the door, going up and up until he found a celeste blue door. It was Regulus's favourite colour—he knew his colours. Spencer saw Regulus's name on the door with the Leo constellation above his name. Spencer looked to Regulus for permission to open the door and when Regulus nodded his head, he happily opened the door and bounced in to find a room filled with greens, blues, and some grey here and there. It was a different style from Spencer's room, but it was still absolutely gorgeous.
"I honestly thought it'd be more black and grey," Regulus said before calmly going to sit on the bed with Spencer leaping right after him.
"Sirius told me that the gods just know you and what you like, it's creepy but hey, they're gods," Spencer said with a shrug. Granted he had face-planted onto the pillow beside Regulus, but it was still a shrug nonetheless.
"Hmm, do you think Halley'll let me dye my hair before the ball?" Regulus asked and Spencer shrugged.
"She's your older sister and she loves you, so of course!" Spencer said, his voice muffled by the pillow he had smashed his face on. He popped his head up to find Regulus laying his head on the headboard and his eyes closed, he looked comfortable so Spencer didn't bother him just yet. Spencer made swimming motions with his hands as he scooted towards the edge and looked at the bedside table. He wondered if there was anything in there and he turned red at what he saw.
"Figures, the goddess of sex did just popped in here," Spencer said before turning to Regulus with a smirk. Lord knows he was never going to be a dom, but he could convince Regulus to have just a little bit of fun before they explore. "Reggie," Spencer whispered with a bright grin as he walked over and took Regulus's hand, "Look in the drawer."
Regulus opened his eyes and wrinkled his eyebrows before hovering over Spencer to look at the sexual contents of the drawer. Spencer looked at Regulus with wide excited eyes and saw that his boyfriend's eyes had darkened. A second later Spencer found his hands above him on the headboard, secured by Regulus's hand. Spencer grinned as Regulus pressed a rough kiss to his lips.
"You little minx," Regulus whispered.
ᗰIᑎᗩKᔕᕼI'ᔕ ᑭOIᑎT Oᖴ ᐯIᗴᗯ:
Minakshi unpacked her glorious broomstick and smiled at it. It had been a gift from her father from right before the trip. Her father—Varun Bhosale—was a professional Quidditch player and did advertisements for broomsticks often, which meant Minakshi got the latest broomsticks for free.
Minakshi aspired to be a professional Quidditch player when she grew up, and it seemed like her dream of playing Quidditch for a living was going to come true. Right before the end of the school year when Hufflepuff won the Quidditch cup (she could still see the Marauder's shocked faces and she could still hear the excited screams of her fellow Hufflepuffs who never really got any attention otherwise), the coach of the Holyhead Harpies approached her and told Minakshi that she was the best student Quidditch player she'd seen in decades and invited her to try out for the team. Minakshi had nearly died from shock and excitement, but she kept a professional tone and thanked the coach before going to the Hufflepuff common room and yelling the good news to everyone.
Minakshi sure as hell wasn't going to be out of practice for when she tried out for the team, so she decided that she would practise every day during the summer. With the Asgard trip, she was hella excited to actually be at the Asgard, but decided it'd be a good idea to dedicate three hours of her day to Quidditch. It seemed like a good amount of time and since she wouldn't be trying out until spring, she could dedicate her days in between the holiday and the tryouts to any practice she may have missed due to the trip.
"¡Voy a vivir el momento!" Adalina yelled out, dancing around the room while holding her black cat—Shouta—in her arms, seemingly dancing with the poor thing. Shouta sent desperate eyes to Minakshi and she couldn't help but laugh at him.
Minakshi didn't really understand what Adalina was saying in Spanish sometimes. She was only fluent in Hindi and Marathi. But after being best friends with Adalina for a while, she managed to pick up on a few things. Granted, she wasn't the cleverest, but everyone could understand the basis of what someone close to them was trying to say.
Adalina had already been in her room but decided that she was lonely since she couldn't talk to anyone other than the handmaiden. Minakshi was ninety-nine per cent sure that Adalina had scared the girl off for the time being and had bounced right over to Minakshi's room to talk her head off. Minakshi was okay with it; they were besties after all and Minakshi didn't mind Adalina's excited rants as she planned Quidditch tactics.
"Ooh, pretty," Adalina said as her eye caught on Minakshi's broomstick. She plopped Shouta on the floor, who quickly ran under a piece of furniture with Minakshi's white Persian cat Snowflake. Thankfully both were sterile. Adalina then skipped over to Minaski's bed and laid on the soft blankets stomach down. "You're gonna play, aren't you? Ooh, can I watch? I don't really know what else to do and there are ¡demasiadas opciones!" Adalina said quickly.
"Sure, but we should go find the boys since I kind of want to play a game. I remember Hel and Astrid saying something about how the sparring arena could be turned into a Quidditch pitch," Minakshi said as she pulled her hair up into a quick high ponytail so it wouldn't get in her face as she flew.
Adalina quickly agreed as she got wide eyes and skipped out of the room, yelling to Minakshi that she would go grab her "Quidditch beanie" from her room to swap with her "adventure beanie". Minakshi had learned by now not to question Adalina and go along with everything she said.
☀
A few minutes later, Minakshi had gathered everyone willing to play a game of Quidditch. Astrid said that she would meet them there before going off ahead of them. To Minakshi's surprise, Remus agreed to play instead of going to the library.
Minakshi had quite the crush on the boy. Their relationship was complicated to say the least. In their fifth year, after she had been appointed Hufflepuff Quidditch captain—the youngest captain ever—her grades had slipped, which meant the professors got the smartest kid in her year to help her. Remus Lupin became her tutor.
Of course, she had been immensely annoyed with the professors for giving her a tutor. But then, she started falling for Remus, so she had to say she wasn't exactly annoyed with them after a couple sessions. After one of the sessions, she took Remus to her favourite tree (god she sounded like Adalina) and dared him to climb it with her. Remus—not being one to back down from a dare (which he blamed on the Marauders' influence)—had followed her up and after talking for a while, watching the sunset.
Minakshi couldn't help but feel the romantic tension—at least she had hoped it was romantic tension—between them. So she kissed Remus. Remus Lupin! The thought still made her giddy. To her delight, he had kissed her back, but after that encounter, they hadn't talked properly, only during the tutoring sessions that had now ended, leading her to believe that he didn't like her.
Obviously, she'd pestered James and Sirius about this but hadn't gotten a straight answer from them (not that the two were that straight in the first place), so there was still hope!
After everyone was gathered with broomsticks—the handmaidens and manservants had decided to let the people who didn't bring their broomsticks or didn't own one use some from Asgard that they just so happened to have—the handmaidens and manservants led them to the pitch. They walked through a secret passageway to get there quicker and they emerged in the pitch.
Minakshi noticed Astrid sitting on the bleachers with Hel and another girl on one side and two boys on the other. All three kids that Minakshi didn't recognize had blond hair and blue eyes.
Astrid noticed them and waved excessively with excitement. The girl that Minakshi didn't know smirked before disappearing in a puff of red magic and appearing right next to the Quidditch crew.
"Hey!" Astrid said with a smile, "These are my half-siblings—they're all kids of my dad, Thor—my sister, Þrúð r—or Thrúd for you guys I guess if you're okay with it, Þrúðr. She's the goddess of the primal strength in all women—"
Thrúd's smirk grew and she crossed her arms. She physically looked to be maybe a year or two older than Minakshi. Minakshi could tell that they would probably get along just fine.
"—and my brothers, Móði—or Módi if you're okay with that Móði—and Magni—minor gods of strength—" Astrid said, gesturing to her brothers. Módi looked about a year older than Thrúd, and Magni two years older than her. Both boys waved at the group and Minkashi waved back in respect. They were gods, after all, and she was pretty sure each of them could smite her to ashes with a snap of their fingers.
"I would've asked my brothers to play with you all but, alas. One is Sleipinr, and I don't even think he can mount a broomstick, one is a giant wolf locked away with unbreakable chains somewhere, one is a gigantic serpent wrapped around Midgard, and my little brothers are far too young to play with you all," Hel said with a smile. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the potions wing. I have an apprentice to attend to," Hel said, pressing a kiss to Sirius's cheek and shadow-travelling away.
"You can go to the kitchens or explore the castle Pete, you don't gotta stay here," Matthew said with a smile turning to Peter. One hand was holding Peter's, the other holding his broomstick.
"No, I'll watch," Peter said, Matthew just grinned before pressing a soft kiss to Peter's cheek and letting go of his hand.
Before Minakshi could ask how to turn the sparring arena into a Quidditch pitch, Thrúd seemingly read her mind (she wouldn't be surprised if the goddess could actually read minds either. Kind of violating, but she was a goddess) as her hand lit up with red magic and she pressed it to the ground. A moment later, Quidditch hoops sprouted for the ground like trees, a commentator box appeared at the end of one of the sides of the pitch, and some speakers formed on the edges.
Minakshi was impressed. She smirked at Thrúd, who grinned back at her.
"So, we'll have two teams. I'll be the team captain of one and Thrúd the other?" Minakshi asked and Thrud agreed.
Minakshi had everyone line up and Thrúd let her choose first. Minakshi smiled and picked Remus first. Remus tilted his head in an "alright then" way before coming to stand beside Minakshi.
Thrúd then chose Sirius, and he walked over beside her. This continued until they had their teams. Remus, Regulus, Magni, and Módi on Minakshi's team, and Módi, James, Matt, and Spencer on Thrúd's team.
"To decide what positions you all get, since there are only five on each team, let's cut a beater and a chaser? That leaves two chasers, a keeper, a seeker, and a beater," Minakshi said, though it was technically a question since everyone had to agree. Once everyone agreed, Minakshi smiled. "Regulus and I already play, Reggie is a seeker while I'm a chaser. You three, what positions do you prefer? I'd hold a tryout, but that'd take a while," Minakshi said as she turned to Remus, Magni, and Módi. Though she had to admit, she was looking more at Remus than the rest of them.
"Er, chaser I guess?" Remus asked and Minakshi agreed with that before turning to the gods.
"Beater then," Magni said just as his brother added that left him the keeper role.
"What are your roles?" Thrúd asked her group.
"Chaser!" Sirius said brightly.
"Chaser," James added.
"Seeker," Matt added with a dorkish smile as he held onto his broomstick with both hands.
"Beater!" Spencer said, quite over-enthusiastically.
Thrúd nodded, "That leaves the position of the keeper for me," she said, and Minakshi realized just how low her voice was then. "Do we play by the normal rules?"
"Yep," Minakshi said, before looking around, "And where are the—" she started to ask before she saw Adalina appear at the entrance.
"I was exploring because I got bored, and I found these!" Adalina yelled out, holding a big box that was clearly too heavy for her to carry so she dragged it along the sand. Her handmaiden was behind her and looked like she might cry from exhaustion despite only being with Adalina for maybe half an hour or less. "¡Bolas de quidditch! See!" Adalina said as she dragged the box a tiny bit quicker, leaving a long line in the sand behind her before she clicked open the box in the middle to reveal that indeed there were Quidditch balls.
"We still need a referee," Minakshi said before hearing three loud thuds coming for the speakers.
"Testing, one, two, three," Astrid said from over the speaker, and Minakshi looked up to find that Astrid was already sitting in the commentator's box. "I think Addy can be the ref," Astrid said into the microphone and Adalina quickly agreed.
"Get into positions, everyone!" Minakshi yelled out and as everyone did she turned to Remus. "You know, you chose to be a chaser, but I still think you're a keeper," Minakshi said with a wink. Hey! She was a flirt, leave her be. Remus may not have been interested in her, but that didn't mean she still couldn't harmlessly flirt here and there.
Remus just rolled her eyes and Minakshi thought she could see a hint of a smile before he mounted his broom and flew off.
ᗩᗪᗩᒪIᑎᗩ'ᔕ ᑭOIᑎT Oᖴ ᐯIᗴᗯ:
'Ooh, is that a bird?' Adalina thought as she looked at a flying thing in the sky. Then she remembered that gods could fly, so maybe it was a god—even better!
"And Mina scores another ten points for team one!" Astrid yelled excitedly into the microphone, causing some of the handmaidens and nymphs to cheer on the bleachers. Adalina didn't exactly remember when the nymphs came, or if the other people on the bleachers were even nymphs at all, but—wait, she was supposed to be refereeing.
Adalina adjusted her red, gold, yellow, and black beanie on her head. She had gotten it as a joint gift from Matthew and Peter back in the fourth year and she was pretty sure Matthew hand-knitted it himself. Red and gold for Gryffindor pride for herself, since she was a Gryffindor, and black and yellow for Hufflepuff pride since her bestie was Minakshi and she was in Hufflepuff.
Adalina looked up, shielding her eyes from the sun using her hand so she could see what was happening. She knew the basic rules of Quidditch. If it gets you siriusly (she refrained from laughing at her Sirius joke or else the gods she just met would think she was bonkers—well, she as kind of bonkers, but that wasn't the point) injured it's probably okay, but if it gets you killed it's probably not okay.
So far, there had been a few fouls, but she was sure it was because some players didn't know how strong or weak they were. She ended up tracing the funny patterns on the broom she was borrowing from the gods and then her mind registered that she was borrowing a broom from Asgard. Imagine the stories she could tell her Padre and her sister Maya.
Now, the logical conclusion (Adalina laughed to herself, imagine her being logical? She couldn't do that) would be "oh, is your mum dead Addy?" and of course you'd be wrong. Adalina's mother actually left her family when she was five years old. Her sister was the logical one, so that meant Adalina was free to be weird. She lived with her dad since her sister moved out when Adalina was nine and she loved both of them dear—
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a pretty shiny thing and usually she would love to go run after pretty shiny things and collect them (like a crow!) but she was pretty sure the pretty shiny thing was the snitch. She was proven correct when both Matthew and Regulus saw the snitch and both flew over at breakneck speed to grab it.
Adalina was at the edge of her broom as she watched the two boys intently. She looked up at the scoreboard (she had forgotten the score. Don't blame her' she got distracted a few minutes ago) and found that if Matthew managed to catch the snitch, the game would end in a tie. If Regulus did, team one (Mina's team) would win, fun!
Adalina then looked over to Minakshi (her mouth started feeling funny from not talking for a while. She should say something) who looked like she was debating something as Remus passed the quaffle to her. Adalina was pretty sure she knew what was going on in her head as she quickly flew across the pitch to the goal. If she wanted to win, she had to score a goal before Regulus caught the snitch since she couldn't tell him to back off since Matthew would then catch the shiny golden ball—the snitch—and then it would most definitely end in a tie.
"Quidditch is fun, isn't it, Addy?" Adalina asked herself, tired from not speaking for a while, "Why, yes it is, thank you for asking Addy, so intelligent. Do you think there are gummy worms in the kitchens? Maybe, do you think they taste different? Well, to answer your first question Addy—"
"And Thrúd blocks the quaffle by catching it with one hand! Impressive move!" Astrid yelled, her voice buzzing with excitement. Adalina heard a crackle coming from the speakers and saw little yellow sparks. She kind of wondered if Astrid had some power outages when she was on Asgard—Hel too—was it because they felt at home? Hel had already shadow travelled a few times and done some godly magic (was it even godly magic?) a few times and from what Lily had said, Hel could only do so much before it drained her—Astrid too.
"ADALINA ARE YOU EVEN PAYING ATTENTION?" Adalina's handmaiden ... What was her name again? Was it, did it start with an I? Or was it an M...she'd ask later. Nonetheless, her handmaiden yelled at her and Adalina eyes shot up to see that Matthew and Regulus were neck to neck chasing the golden shiny ball. Adalina would stick with calling it a pretty shiny ball. Why did she have to change it to something normal when she could be her? Plus if someone doesn't know what she's talking about and they find out hours, sometime even days later, you've had a day-long conversation! In her mind, that's how it worked.
"ADALINA!" Her handmaiden screeched out again and as Adalina managed to look up, she saw that Matthew and Regulus both had their arms reached out as far as both of them could possibly go. Adalina reached for the dog whistle around her neck and almost dropped it before holding it in her mouth ready to blow.
Adalina flew higher to be able to see better and she squinted before seeing a hand grab onto the golden flying ball. Adalina inhaled a deep breath and blew as hard as she could in the whistle, probably breaking an eardrum or two while she was at it. She grabbed the hand that held the golden snitch and held it up high for everyone to see. Only after a few seconds did she look at the person who actually caught the snitch and found it was Matthew, who looked ecstatic.
"MATTHEW FROM TEAM TWO, THRÚD'S TEAM CAUGHT THE SNITCH!" Adalina yelled at the top of her lungs. She was pretty sure she might've accidentally made Matthew go deaf in one ear, but he was a nice person and smiled through it.
"TEAM TWO WINS!" Astrid yelled excitedly into the microphone and Adalina was positive that she saw yellow tiny bolts of lightning in the clouds near the commentator box despite it being a beautiful day out.
Everybody flew down and Adalina quickly dropped Mathew's hand after telling him congrats for catching the snitch before she ran over to hug Minakshi. She looked kind of disappointed that the match had ended in a tie, but Adalina was happy she hadn't lost or she would be trying to one-up the other team on every single little thing team two did.
"You looked muy guay up there Mina!" Adalina said as she gave Minakshi a big sweaty hug.
"I'm pretty sure you weren't paying attention half the time, Addy," Minkashi said, chuckling as she hugged Adalina back Minakshi held her close before letting go because it was starting to feel more and more like a furnace.
"Good game Minakshi, I can tell there is a strong strength and fire in you. May you prosper on Midgard," Thrúd said, her voice a little deeper than when they first met. She held out her hand for Minakshi to shake and she took it.
"Good game to you too, and thank you," Minakshi said, tilting her head down slightly in respect.
As everyone was saying good game and congratulating each other, Adalina got bored and managed to wander off. She had started thinking of random things and questions in her head before she realized she was in a meadow far away from the Quidditch pitch.
"Palos de mierda," Adalina cussed as she turned around in a full circle. She hadn't a clue where she was and was panicking just a little bit. Only a little ... okay maybe a lot.
"Adalina? Adalina!" Someone yelled frantically. Adalina was barely able to see her handmaiden running after her, clutching a fistful of her greyish robes in her hands as she ran to Adalina. Adalina waved enthusiastically at her handmaiden as she caught up with her.
"You are a hundred times worse than Hel, ever was," Her handmaiden said in between pants. Either Adalina had been going faster than she thought she had been, or she had made random turns that her handmaiden wasn't expecting. She was pretty sure it was the latter. "Be the handmaiden of the fun weird one, Inge, they said, it'll be fun they said,'' her handmaiden muttered, clearly mocking the people who convinced her to be Adalina's handmaiden. She was muttering so soft, Adalina probably wasn't meant to hear it, but before she could comprehend that she really wasn't supposed to hear it, her mouth worked faster than her brain.
"Aww, kinda mean, but I'm used to it," Adalina said, shrugging and the handmaiden's—Inge's—eyes went wide.
"No! That isn't what I meant," she said rapidly and she let go of her robes and started shaking her hands in front of her in urgency. "I just meant it takes a lot of energy to help you not die! You're an amazing person, I really do think so, but you're a carriage full of energy."
Adalina nodded, she understood, but she decided to change the subject. "I knew it was an I!" She yelled and Inge looked at her like she was crazy—which she kind of was.
"I beg your pardon?" Inge asked.
"Oh, earlier I forgot your name since you only said it once, and I thought it started with an I or maybe an M and I was right!" Adalina said brightly, "But where are we? Don't get me wrong it's muy hermosa but, wait, do you understand Spanish?"
"I was required to learn it in school along with Greek, Norse, Italian, and Irish. I'm still a little rough on the Irish," Inge said before she started looking around for something.
Adalina nodded in understanding before getting a good look around. It was beautiful. The meadow caught the right breeze at just the right time all the time so that the grass looked like it was waving hello to Adalina. Adalina wouldn't be surprised if the grass really was waving hello to her.
Just in case the grass was waving hello to her, Adalina crouched down low and waved to a patch of grass. She swore the grass started acting up in happiness before it went back to its slow waves. As she looked out in the distance, she saw a wide figure moving towards her—wait no that was more than one figure. As the figures came closer, Adlaina could make out four main shapes, and even closer Adalina could describe them. One of them was a woman with beautiful long locks of golden hair that shined like it was made of real gold and a beautiful red robe that stood out against all the greens and blues. There was another woman, this time with strawberry blonde hair that looked like it was flowing to the same breeze that the grass was saying hello to and a long green robe that seemed to be made of the things spring fields were—Adalina couldn't explain it, but that's how it looked like to her. There were two little boys in between them, both looked identical to each other other than the obvious age gap. They had the same hair as the strawberry blonde woman, which led Adalina to believe that maybe this was a lesbian couple.
"That's Lady Sif with the red robes, Lady Sigyn with the green robes, and Lady's Sigyn's two sons, Narfi and Vali. Narfi is the older one at age nine, and Vali is the younger one at age two. One of my sisters is Lady Sif's handmaiden, the other Lady Sigyn, and two of my little brothers are Narfi and Vali's manservants," Inge explained to Adalina as she came up beside her, but behind her just a little bit.
"Wait, so are they a lesbian couple?" Adalina asked and Inge looked at her with a look full of shock.
"No, Lady Sigyn is happily married to Lord Loki, and those are also his sons while Lady Sif is happily married to Lord Thor. The two are just good friends," Inge explained.
"Oooooohhh," Adalina said before working again, "¡Estupendo! I'm going to go talk to them!"
"Wait!" Inge said, but it was too late, Adalina had already managed to run right to the gods with a huge smile on her face.
"Hello, Lady Sif, Lady Sigyn, Lord Narfi, Lord Vali," Adalina said, curtsying low. Granted she was wearing shorts, but still! That is what you were supposed to do right? Or was that weird to do? She was a weird person; it wouldn't exactly be out of the ordinary.
"You may rise, Adalina," Lady Sigyn said with a warm smile on her face. Her voice sounded sweet, not honey-sweet but like nectar-sweet, like her voice was made using the sweet flowers of lush green fields.
"Oh yeah! You were part of the epic crew that helped let us have a holiday here!" Adalina said excitedly as she adjusted the beanie in her head; it had gotten a little messed up after she curtsied.
"Yes, you're welcome," Lady Sif said, her voice sounding stronger. It sounded as if a cry of victory from someone was made until a casual voice.
Adalina quickly took to the little boys, giving them each a pat on their heads and telling them they were encantadora. Adalina was sure they did something cool with mythology. Just then, Inge came up to apologize, but before she could say anything, Lady Sigyn told her it was fine and that Adalina was new. Adalina, of course, was grateful, but she was completely flabbergasted by the goddesses and asked if they could tell her about themselves.
"Of course, and we'll take you back to the palace, you have a ball to get ready for in a few hours," Lady Sigyn said as Lady Sif started recounting her most famous story—something with Loki and hair. Inge had gone behind everyone with the other handmaidens and manservants while they walked to the Golden Palace.
ᗰᗩTTᕼᗴᗯ'ᔕ ᑭOIᑎT Oᖴ ᐯIᗴᗯ:
Matthew had changed his clothes after the Quidditch game. He put on normal "Midgardian" clothes, even though in the walk-in closet (he didn't really need a walk-in closet, but it was still pretty!) there were a ton of Asgardian robes. He didn't know which ones to wear, and he didn't want to embarrass himself by wearing the wrong thing on the wrong day. Plus he felt bad asking Erling—his manservant, he didn't like referring to him as a "servant" though, so he called him an almost-friend—what to wear since he had already talked the poor guy's ear off.
Now though, he and Peter were following Queen Frigg around like happy puppies. He was fascinated by the goddess, and he liked the whole happy feeling around her. He had been holding onto Peter's hand and was swinging it slightly as he watched the Queen do her magic and queenly things.
"She's so cool," Matthew whispered to Peter with a bright smile and bright eyes. Right then, Queen Frigg had been doing some magic to help heal someone's child.
"Why thank you, Matthew," Queen Frigg said, and Matthew's eyes went wide. He hadn't meant for Queen Frigg to actually hear him say that she was cool.
"Er, you're welcome, Miss Queen Frigg, your highness, your er," Matthew stuttered out. He still wasn't sure how to address the queen of the gods. He never thought he'd be thinking that. 'What should I call the queen of the gods who could smite me with a smile?'
Matthew heard chuckling behind him and found Erling laughing quietly at him. Matthew pouted for a moment before he looked back over to the almighty queen of queens.
"You can just call me Queen Frigg sweetheart," Queen Frigg said as she turned around smiling.
Matthew smiled in thanks and when Queen Frigg went on to go do something else, he pressed a kiss to Peter's cheek. Peter blushed and buried his face in Matthew's shoulder and Matthew chuckled at his boyfriend before following the Queen.
Most people wondered why Matthew even liked Peter. Everybody said he was "weird" and that "they had a strange feeling around him". Well, Matthew also had a strange feeling around Peter: love. He was completely in love with the other boy. He got butterflies every single time they kissed, or held hands or hugged, or heck, even looked into each other's eyes. Sure, Matthew knew Peter was starting to lean to the dark side, but Matthew was positive he could help prevent this. He was sure the reason that Peter was going to the dark side was that didn't feel appreciated enough, and Matthew could understand that. Peter was friends with the Marauders, and was Marauder himself, and admittedly James, Sirius, and Remus did seem more impressive on the outside, but Matthew knew Peter was special in his own little way.
They walked on until Queen Frigg came to the throne room. Matthew had not been to the throne room yet (during that bit of the tour, he and Astrid had been busy trying to unlatch his hand to some greedy bust statue) so he prepared himself for the best. His grip tightened slightly on Peter's hand with excitement as he watched Queen Frigg open the great golden doors of the throne room. Once it opened all the way, Matthew couldn't help but shout out in excitement.
"Dear God, it's gorgeous!" Matthew exclaimed, his southern accent thickening with awe.
A little explanation on the accent since he was surrounded by English people: His mama was a British woman who went to America on holiday to America. There, she met Matthew's dad. They fell in love and got married. Unfortunately for them, Matthew's dad was enlisted in the US Navy, which meant he was away at sea a lot. Right before his last deployment, Matthew's mama told him that she was pregnant. He had promised to come home, but he didn't. A week after Matthew's ninth birthday, some person told them about Sergeant Carter's death and while they were disappointed they weren't surprised. Later, Matthew's mama decided to move back to London so that Matthew could go to Hogwarts. He had the good ol' "dad went to the store to get milk and never came back" story.
But the Asgardian throne room was the most beautiful thing Matthew had ever seen—well, Peter was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen but still! It was gigantic and golden, just like the rest of the castle, but it was gorgeous. There were pillars near the thrones themselves, with stairs leading up to thrones, and another set of stairs leading up to the main thrones. The number of stairs a throne had leading up to it probably indicated status since twelve stairs were leading up to the main thrones, eleven for the throne next to one of them, ten for the other, and so on. It was beautiful though, as Matthew got closer he could see intricate swirls and designs on the throne. Each throne was unique in its own way.
"Can you ask her which one's which?" Peter whispered in Matthew's ear and Matthew made a gargled noise.
"Why me?" Matthew whispered back.
"Because you're more talkative out of us two."
Matthew tried to come up with an argument and came up empty. "But, would that be rude?'
"Your majesty, these two wonder which throne belongs to who," Erling said in an exasperated tone. Matthew and Peter blushed as they looked at the goddess with hopeful smiles.
Queen Frigg laughed quietly. "I'll show you, and feel free to ask me anything. You all are our guests and we should treat you with respect even if you are mortals," she said before walking to the thrones on Matthew's far-left. Tapping each one she showed them which throne belonged to whom.
Going from left to right, Vali, Astrid, Magni, Sigyn, Loki, Vidar (apparently he was one of Odin's sons, but not by Frigg), Odin, Frigg, Hodr (Frigg explained he was her son), Thor, Sif, Thrúd, Módi, Narfi, and then Hel. Queen Frigg explained that the number of steps that a person had leading up to their throne determined their spot of succession. If you had more steps, you were closer in line. Odin and Frigg had decided who went where based on age, legilimency and if they were going to be the ruler of some other realm or kingdom. The seating chart wasn't done by either of them, rather Freyja (the practically naked goddess that came to visit them if Matthew remembered—and it had traumatized him, so he remembered) who put the odd numbers on one side and the evens on the other. Queen Frigg also explained Hel would've been closer to be next in line for the throne if she didn't have her own kingdom.
Matthew and Peter soaked up every word Queen Frigg said before a woman appeared next to her out of thin air—startling Matthew and Peter as they both jumped in surprise—and whispered something to Queen Frigg, who smiled and thanked the woman as she came over to Peter and Matthew.
"I'm sorry to cut our time short, dears, but my handmaiden has just told me it's time to prepare you all for the ball," Queen Frigg said with a warm smile. "Is it alright if I use some magic to teleport you—all of you—" she looked at the almost-friends near Matthew and Peter "—to where Hel is gathering everyone?"
Matthew and Peter looked to each other and to their almost-friends before agreeing and Frigg waved her hand sending a breeze of light golden magic to them. When it hit Matthew, he felt a sense of serenity—like a mother's embrace. About five seconds later, he was hit with a wave of noise.
"YOUNG AND SWEET, ONLY SEVENTEEN, DANCING QUEEN!"
Matthew saw he was outside the gate, so he pressed his hand to it and said the unlocking spell. The gate dissolved in lemon-yellow coloured magic and Matthew quickly pulled Peter through as he walked into the main room. He found Adalina, Sirius, James, Astrid, and Spencer belting out the lyrics of "Dancing Queen" in-between two gigantic music players. Remus, Minakshi, Regulus, Severus, and Ddraig sat on the sofa watching them (most of them amused). At first, Matthew couldn't find Hel, but then he looked up and saw she was on the spiral staircase along the walls. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the look on Hel's face; she looked like she was regretting all of her life choices. Unfortunately for him, she caught him chuckling and his chuckle turned into a nervous one as he smiled shyly. Matthew swore he could see her soften a bit before the shadows took her away and into the center of the room.
Hel waved her wand and the speakers slowly died off, leading the singing group to pout before going to different spots to sit down. Matthew spotted a giant yellow bean bag chair (there seemed to be a theme at Asgard—go big or gold or go home) and gently tugged Peter in that direction. Both of them sat down next to each other (they switched the hands they were holding so they were more comfortable) while their almost-friends sat in chairs near them.
"You all are going to go to an Asgardian welcoming ball. We've had many and you're lucky this is a welcoming ball since they're hopefully going to incorporate Midgardian elements. Some basic things you'll need to remember—but perhaps your servants will remind you. There will be floating platters with food and drink on them. Platinum platters are not fit for mortal consumption, and you might spontaneously combust; the gold ones are fit for you. Every deity on Asgard will be there—maybe even some gods from other pantheons who are visiting—do not, and I repeat do not, let them seduce you in any way. I do not care if you are male-presenting, female-presenting. They are not harmlessly flirting, they wish to get in your pants and you may be the next bearer of a demigod or god. I wouldn't talk to anyone unless they approach you first. Your servants will tell you who will tolerate you and who will kill you on sight," Hel explained, and Matthew clung onto every word because he didn't want to die just yet.
Then Astrid (who was still standing in the middle) spoke up in a much more light tone than the serious one Hel was using. "For the dresses and suits, you can wear anything you want! This is a ball, so you can wear fancy Midgardian robes, fancy Asgardian robes, or a mix in between. There are robes in your closets in your rooms, but if none of those matches your taste, we can always go to Lady Freyja and she can let us in her closet wing! Before any of that, take a bath or a shower, and after, the hairdressers will do hair—if you want to—and the makeup stylists can do makeup—if you want," Astrid said, her eyes sparkling.
"Dinner will occur right before the ball. My grandmother has instructed there to be a separate room for your dinner. It is almost as grand as the gods' dining hall. Have no fear. I'd recommend you eat there for today and perhaps tomorrow, but definitely for today. As for food, all of your favourites should be there along with some Asgardian foods safe for mortal consumption," Hel explained with a stern face.
"Any questions?" Astrid asked, her bright smile contradicting her cousin's dead face—literally half-dead too.
No one decided to say anything other than the humming coming from Adalina. Matthew wasn't even sure if she had heard anything either girl said, but other than that, no one had any questions. Matthew didn't have any questions either, he got the idea. "You are essentially living with gods—gods that will amaze you with all they have to offer—put one toe out of line and you could become a pile of ashes with a flutter of the eyelashes."
"Good, off you pop," Hel said as she walked over to Sirius and took his hand, shadow travelling away.
After she did, everyone started running off. Most everyone walked up the stairs with the handmaidens and manservants staying in the main room. Adalina looked around confused before her handmaiden filled her in and Adalina hopped up the stairs. Matthew turned to face Peter, who was already looking at him.
"Wanna take a bath together?" Matthew suggested with excited eyes and Peter blushed a dark pink before mumbling in agreement. Matthew grinned and pressed a kiss to Peter's lips before turning to look at their almost-friends. "Er, do y'all wanna stay down here? Or like, if we're goin' to my room, I guess if y'all want y'all could stay in my room or?" Matthew suggested awkwardly. He'd never had someone follow him around the way Erling did.
"We'll stay down here," Erling said sharply.
"Great! Cmon Pete!" Matthew said, his eyes bright with excitement as a chuckling Peter followed him up the stairs and to Matthew's room.
☀
After an, ahem, delightful bath, Matthew and Peter got dressed in some dress robes that were more "Midgardian" than Asgardian, as their almost-friends put it, and got their hair done by "royal stylists'', as their almost-friends put it. Matthew wasn't used to pampering (clearly Peter wasn't either) since he wasn't a rich person. No, he was more middle class so having your hair done by royal stylists and having clothes that probably cost more than half the states were worth? A completely new—but lovely—experience for Matthew. After the people who chose to get their makeup done got their makeup done—Matthew and Peter weren't a part of this. Despite Matthew being gay, he did not wear makeup (kind of a bad stereotype in his opinion) and Peter didn't like makeup in general. Both of them had been test subjects for Lily, though.
Now, Matthew was sitting at the biggest golden table he had ever seen with the biggest feast he had ever seen in front of him—and that was saying something since he went to Hogwarts. On one side of him was Astrid and on the other side was Peter, who he was holding hands with under the table.
Everybody was just chatting while eating, and Matthew couldn't help but notice how everyone looked absolutely gorgeous. There were many different colours around him and different fabrics, the makeup and hair were real pretty too, and everyone around him took his breath away. However, he was positive that Peter had practically kicked him in the diaphragm by how he couldn't take a breath of air when he saw his handsome boyfriend come out of the closet (he nearly choked on his food as he chortled at his own pun) in the handsome dress robes that make him look amazing.
"I have a question for the lovely goddessessessesses," Adalina said, saying the "es" part of goddesses over and over again. It was pretty weird, but Matthew found it cute in a platonic way. Though they weren't really good friends now, he did hope that they could become closer and be besties by the end of the trip. The best bestie spot was reserved for Astrid, though.
"Yes? I have a question for you too Adalina. Do you mind if I ask my question first?" Hel asked sternly. Her dead side was for all to view and her makeup was done in such a way that made her look more queenly and scarier (but, a beautiful scary—that didn't make sense did it?).
"Not at all! ¡Pregunta, chica!" Adalina exclaimed. Matthew wasn't sure what she said at the end, but apparently Hel understood.
"Are you going to wear that beanie all night long?"
Matthew put a piece of some lovely steak in his mouth—which melted the moment it hit his tongue—as he watched Adalina pat her head where her red beanie was.
"Of course I am! It's my fancy beanie! See, it even matches my outfit!" Adalina said, her smile brighter than the chandelier as she scooted her chair away from the table and got up, showing up her dress and beanie with a twirl. Matthew had to admit that Adalina put effort to make her beanie match her dress. Her dress was red and strapless with what Matthew was sure was called gathering on the—was it called a bodice? The top part. The top part was gathered to a pretty silver belt button looking thing (it was really pretty and shiny) which had ruffles coming out of the bottom. The rest of the dress was pretty simple and it reached the floor. He was also pretty sure the material was satin. Her beanie was the same red colour (he was convinced she had a beanie for every occasion) with a pretty silver embellishment on the side like her dress.
Matthew applauded politely at Adalina, a few other people joined in. Adalina smiled wider and curtsied before sitting back down and indelicately scooting forward inch by inch before her handmaiden had enough and scooted her chair in quickly.
Matthew looked to Hel, who had that murderous look on her face. She was thinking of any of the following:
1) She wanted to kill Adalina
2) She was planning Adalinas murder or
3) She was planning the murder, but she would just give up on that idea and kill her.
To save Adalina's neck from getting chopped by Hel, Matthew spoke up, "Addy! Did you have a question for Hel?" He asked Adalina, who nodded rapidly. She looked like a bobble-head with an extra springy spring.
"Yeah! So during the Quidditch match, I saw that Asty had these sparkle outbreaks and that you seem to have a lot more godly energy. Does that have anything to do with the whole Asgard is the land of the gods thing?" Adalina asked.
"Is she truly that thick?" Matthew heard Hel mutter under her breath as Sirius choked on his drink giggling. However, Hel regained her queenly composure and smiled—though there wasn't any warmth behind it. Maybe Matthew could bake a giant chocolate chip cookie for her later! That would make her really smile.
"The short answer is yes. While on Asgard, Astrid and I do have more godly energy. Based on my research, it has something to do with the amount of magic flowing through Asgard, and the number of gods here that use magic daily. I'm assuming the 'sparkles' you mentioned are lighting strikes and yes, that does happen to gods when they have strong emotions; their godly power goes overboard. However, most gods learn to control this. Seeing as Astrid and I are young gods, that is why these things could happen. For Astrid, it's obviously the lighting, for me, if I get too excited, I might accidentally shadow-travel from place to place without meaning it. We do have more godly energy here. We can use probably twice the amount of godly energy here without getting tired rather than Midgard," Hel explained lengthily. Astrid agreed with her.
"Yeah! On Asgard, especially in the golden palace, our godly energy levels are through the roof, especially when we experience high emotions! We've got to get rid of that energy somehow, and that's how these accidents happen! It happens more with me because I'm so happy all the time, but when Hel loses a bit of control, it can be, er," Astrid struggled for the right words scrunching her mouth up in thought.
"Disastrous, I'm a death and shadow goddess, my extra energy is death and shadow. Shadow-travelling to places would be the best-case scenario. The worst-case scenario would be that I accidentally drain the life out of beings," Hel said. Matthew took a large sip of butterbeer to hide his mild fear.
Adalina did not look fazed at all as she smiled and nodded before shovelling some dessert in her mouth.
Minutes later everyone was full and happy. Hel got a bright look on her face as she gracefully stood up. Her Asgardian robe flowed around her like they were made of pure shadows, and her bejewelled black crown sat high on her head of braids. Her robes had silver decals that made it all the more gorgeous, and her dead side matched perfectly with the entire outfit. The look screamed royalty and power, and Matthew was fine with not standing in Hel's way.
"Come along, they'll want to introduce you the fun way," Hel said with a twinkle in her eye that reminded Matthew of her dad, or, er, mom? Matthew wasn't sure ... parent seemed to be the best word to use in this situation.
Everyone followed Hel, and Astrid popped up to the front, Matthew ended up following her. They came to a place where there was a curtain-like barrier. Matthew was sure it was magic since they could see everyone, but no one seemed to see them—like a two-way mirror in those fun police movies.
"Hello, my dears," Queen Frigg said as she came through the curtain. It looked like you could walk through it without having to say any magical spells, or maybe the Queen was just that powerful. "There is a man out there who will call out your names, first Hel, then Astrid, and then the rest of your name in alphabetical order by last name. I'll stay here to help you," Queen Frigg explained. Matthew nodded along, excited to see what the ballroom looked like.

Hel sighed and smiled to herself. She may have been acting like a regal queen to everyone, but she wanted everything to flow smoothly. She didn't want anyone to be embarrassed by them acting stupid or improper to the Asgardian ways and wished for her friends to have a good time at her home.
Hel sent a quick smile to her grandmum before composing herself. What she said about accidental magic was true. There was so much godly magic floating around Asgard, if fledgeling gods were not careful, the magic could power their own. Hel had been suppressing a lot of magic throughout the entire day due to stress. Heck, while she was talking with Halley and Ddraig in the potions room, teaching Halley one of the most deadly potions she knows and while discussing potion theory with Ddraig, her stress started to let go and she was pretty sure some of her shadow and death magic flowed into her own potion. It had once been a milky white, and now it was the darkest thing she had ever seen.
Hel prepared to go out first and prepared to dazzle everyone with her queenliness.
"Introducing Hel Lokidottir, Daughter of Loki, Princess of Asgard, Future Queen of Helheim, Goddess of Death!" The man announced and Hel took a deep breath as she walked through the magical barrier.
She had done this many times. Of course, she'd had many balls in her lifetime, the first being the day she arrived on Asgard on her fifth birthday.
Contrary to what everyone else believed, Hel was not born from god and god, but she was born from god and mortal — Astrid too, but her cousin did not hide it. Hel didn't want anyone to know she wasn't born from Sigyn and Loki; she didn't want anyone to know she hadn't lived her entire life on Asgard, and she especially didn't want anyone to know the abuse she endured from the moment she was born all the way up until the day before her fifth birthday. Hel barely even knew her mother, she didn't even know that woman's name and she had asked her father never to tell her anything about the woman that caused Hel to lose half of her childhood. Instead, she liked to believe Sigyn was her mother and that's what everyone else — save her closest friends — thought as well.
Hel kept a royal expression on her face, one that commanded power, respect. She walked down the steps without looking at them, muscle memory taking over. When she reached the end she closed her eyes for a moment before shadow-travelling to her father. The idea of thinking of a person and shadow-travelling to them was a fairly new concept for her seeing as she had started practising that kind of shadow-travel at the beginning of the seventh year. However, she was getting quite good at it, since she landed only a meter away from her father.
"You're getting very good at that, sweetheart," Loki said with a smile. He had changed back to his male form — the one with slicked back curly black hair and twinkling green eyes.
"Thank you, Father," Hel said as the announcer announced Astrid's entrance.
Hel couldn't help but smile warmly at her cousin. Even if Astrid weren't the goddess of beauty, Hel knew her beauty was out of this realm. She was beautiful with the soft pink robes that hugged her in all the right ways, and her hair done up in braids that displayed her beautiful soft curls. Her face showed her natural beauty even with the thin layer of makeup covering the minimal blemishes she had. Astrid's smile though — that contagious smile Hel grew up with — was the real kicker. It was what made her one of the most beautiful goddesses on Asgard.
She had always been so proud of her younger cousin, her powers, her studies, how she was able to make any situation better and how she brought joy and hope into people's lives even when there seems to be nothing there. She was flabbergasted by how the tiny little girl with too much hair and too much energy turned into a mature, beautiful goddess.
"I can't wait for everyone to come out," Astrid said as she walked to Hel's side, buzzing with energy. Hel could see the crackles come out of her fingers and took her hand to help stop her from accidentally electrocuting someone.
First Minakshi came out with lovely yellow robes that had both features from Midgardian Indian culture and Asgardian robes. If Hel remembered correctly, Minakshi was one of the people who walked to Freyja's closet floor. Hel remembered Freyja had gone through about a hundred shades of yellow (no she wasn't exaggerating, with a blink of an eye Freyja could change how the dress looked) to find the perfect one for this occasion.
Halley came next and Hel sighed at how beautiful her lovely apprentice looked in an Asgardian ball gown. It was much less poofy than Midgardian ball gowns; it focused more on small details and designs rather than the big puffiness — something Hel knew Halley appreciated. The blue dress made Halley look beautiful and Hel was very proud of helping pick out the perfect dress for a welcoming gown for Halley. They also managed to find a dress that matched her pastel blue hair perfectly (she had changed the colour a few minutes after they arrived on Asgard).
Regulus came next and Hel knew why he had gone for the long-sleeved look — to cover up his Dark Mark. Hel couldn't help but frown when Regulus came down as one of his sleeves had beautiful decorations on it (the one without the Dark Mark) while the other was completely plain. He still looked handsome though, his celeste blue hair contrasting with his darker clothes. Hel remembered Halley casting a spell on him so his hair changed from black to blue, and he seemed to be quite happy about it.
As Sirius came down, he winked at Hel. Hel rolled her eyes with a smile as Sirius ran to her, picking her up and twirling around. This caused her dress to swirl around them and when he set her down she felt the dress puff up a bit, probably causing the shadows it was partially made of to sink into her real shadow before going back in the dress. Sirius pressed a kiss to Hel's lips and Hel heard her family chuckling at the two. Hel blushed as she pulled away from Sirius. She took a hold of Sirus's hand though as she watched Matthew come down the steps in lovely yellow and black garments and Ddraig come down in black and deep red garments.
Down came Lily in a beautiful green Midgardian dress Hel chose for her and she smiled when she saw Halley and Lily lock eyes, both smiling at each other the same way Hel smiled at Sirius. She understood why the two didn't want to go public, though: Walburga's anger was something that shouldn't be laughed at. Hel had had the misfortune of speaking to that woman more than once, and she understood why Halley was scared to come out to her mother. However, after Halley and Lily started dating, Hel had seen a change in her apprentice's view about her pansexuality, and Hel was glad Halley was coming to terms with the fact she also loved women due to Lily helping her.
Remus came down in rather plain looking robes, Spencer came along after in about the brightest robes Hel had ever seen — right next to Sol's summer solstice dress.
"I really hope no one embarrasses us," Hel muttered to Astrid as she waited for the last four people to come down. She was mainly worried about Adalina, though, as she came down. Granted, her dress was stunning and clearly, Adalina had a taste for more expensive fashion, but it didn't change the fact she was a weird little girl.
Astrid shrugged, "I mean, I'm sure no one will —"
Adalina grinned as she finger gunned random gods as she came down the stairs before she tripped over her own two feet. She tripped down about seven steps before she gave up and slid down the rail, neatly landing on her two feet and waltzing on over to where Minakshi was.
"— she's different!" Astrid said brightly as Hel nearly fainted out of embarrassment. Hel prayed to Víðarr (the Nordic god of vengeance and Hel's kind-of uncle) she wouldn't try to kill Adalina through the duration of the trip.
Down came Peter, who walked straight (though that would be a bad way to describe it) to Matthew and threw himself into his boyfriend's arms. Hel nearly cooed for the couple. She knew good and well Matthew was slightly intimidated by her, but she did think he was an adorable mortal. Perhaps she would favour him for a while. After Peter came James, who immediately rushed to Astrid and captured her lips with his and Hel rolled her eyes at the couple while hiding a smile. After James went Severus, and the slimy greaseball managed to find a friend. How sweet. He walked over to Calder — one of Frigg's potion makers.
"Let the ball commence!" The announcer said, and everyone turned away from the staircase and walked to their godly things.
Hel smiled before seeing a platinum platter floating with drinks on it. She looked at the slip of paper that told her what it was and after seeing it wasn't alcoholic, she took one of the tall glasses and took a sip of it. She had a feeling she shouldn't be drunk that night.
"This is so cool," Halley whispered to Hel as she looked at everything with wonder. It was differently styled than the first welcoming party the girl had been to and Hel knew it was probably amazing for her.
"Thank you, Freyja did have fun with this. Also, if you and Lily ever want some alone time, tell me. There's a secret passageway that leads to the top of the golden palace. Granted, it used to be used for times of battle when gods needed to get away or throw enemies off of building — or it was used as a gruesome way of execution — but it's also one of the best places to look the stars," Hel whispered back to Halley who smiled gratefully. "But have fun! Your handmaiden won't follow you too closely, enough so you don't accidentally kill yourself. If you want to stick with me though, that's fine," Hel said smiling.
"I kind of want to meet the other gods, any recommendations?" Halley asked and Hel smiled.
"Of course, Aurvandil, the large god over there with the blue robes," Hel said as she discreetly pointed to a god diagonally left from her, "He's the god of the stars. He has some interesting stories about constellations and such. I think you'd like him."
Halley smiled gratefully before she walked over to the god and Hel sighed as she took a quick count of all of her guests — besides Severus, she couldn't care less about him if she tried. He had already joined ranks with the Death Eaters willingly and Hel could never forgive him. Not only that, but he still claimed to love Lily while willingly being a Death Eater.
Hel looked for her other guests, the easiest to spot was Adalina, who was doing the weirdest dance move Hel had seen since Dionysus came to the party the year before. Minakshi was close by, probably trying to discreetly supervise her friend while talking to a goddess — a goddess Remus was also talking to. Astrid had managed to drag James off to see her dad and Hel had to physically hold back her laugh at how nervous James looked. Everyone else — Matthew, Peter, Ddraig, Spencer, and Regulus—were over where the classic ballroom dancing was. Hel found an empty trash platter and put her drink on it, taking a chuckling Sirius's hand and dragging him over.
Peter and Matthew were dancing near the centre, from what Hel saw, Matthew was leading. The two looked utterly in love as they stared into each other's eyes, and even though Hel had a dislike for Peter, she could help but coo softly at the two. Ddraig and Regulus were dancing too, however, it was much more dramatic than romantic, and both were enjoying themselves. Spencer was standing off to the side with a drink in hand that looked suspiciously like spiked butterbeer.
Hel came up to Spencer — her hand still gently holding Sirius' — and waved a quaint hello to her friend. Yes, it may have come as a huge surprise to most. The cold and stoic Hel Lokidottir was good friends with the carefree and crazy Spencer Malfoy, but their differences were what made the friendship work. They learned from each other and learning is something Hel can appreciate.
Spencer, however, waved a much more enthusiastic hand, with a big smile that would probably hurt Hel if she tried to do it.
Hel looked at Sirius who looked at Spencer, then to Ddraig and Regulus, then to Spencer. "How come you can't dance like that?" Sirius asked teasingly and Spencer's smile vanished as he became flustered.
"Shut up," Spencer said quickly and Hel chuckled at him as Spencer's smile returned to his face.
"You know three-person dances, right?" Hel asked Spencer who nodded so fast his fluffy hair looked like it was vibrating.
"Yup! Loads!" Spencer said and Hel smiled.
"Then go on, the song's about to change," Hel said and Spencer grinned as he walked over to his boyfriend and friend. Hel knew their relationship also wasn't public, but they seemed to have forgotten about their worries for the moment. It made her overjoyed to see her friends happy and relaxed around each other for once.
As the song changed, Sirius bowed to Hel and held out his hand. "May I have this dance m'lady?" He asked in an awful Norwegian accent.
Hel chuckled, "Yes m'lord," she said in an awful British accent as she took Sirius's hand and the two walked onto the dance floor and began a waltz.
"You look ravishing, love," Sirius said, his voice back to normal as he put his hand on Hel's waist.
"Why thank you, my love. You look quite handsome yourself," Hel said as Sirius smirked, tightening his grip on her waist slightly.
Hel smirked back as she tightened her grip on his shoulder and pulled him close as if an embrace. She kissed him on his sweet spot (his pulse) and whispered something in his ear that made him loosen his grip on her waist. "Oh please, like you could ever be dominant."
Hel smirked in victory at Sirius's red and flustered face. He acted manly and macho when he was an amateur to Hel. The two danced as if the shadows were carrying them. From how excited Hel was about how all of her friends looked so happy, they probably were. By the time the song finished, Hel wished for the dance to be longer.
"Another round?" Hel and Sirius asked each other at the same time and the two laughed it off as the song changed. The two did a different dance that was supposed to be like two swans floating on water. Hel liked to think it was two swans floating on shadow since she found it was more suited to their situation. The swans in the dance were supposed to be in love, and Hel was positive she got that part of the dance right. Every time Sirius gave her that Sirius smirk moths flew around in her stomach like the first time she realized she was in love. When the swans came to each other in an embrace, Sirius pressed a soft kiss to Hel's lips and Hel kissed him back. Unlike some of their more heated kisses, this one was soft and delicate, like the feather of a swan, and Hel loved it as much as their heated ones -- if not she loved these kinds more. The moment the song finished, Hel felt a tap on her shoulder and out of habit a bit of godly energy formed in her hands before she realized it was her father.
"Father!" Hel said with a smile as she hugged her father around the neck — granted it took a little bit of reaching but it was worth it.
"Daughter," Loki said in return as he hugged Hel back. "Sirius," he said as he greeted Sirius.
"Mister Odinson," Sirius said. When Hel pulled away from her dad, she saw Sirius bow slightly.
"How many times have I told you to call me Loki? Mister Odinson is too formal for you. Though, you might as well start calling me Dad," Loki said and as Hel shouted out in embarrassment, Loki chuckled. "I'm just kidding ... mostly," he winked at Sirius. Hel rolled her eyes at the duo before another song came on, her dad invited her to dance with him. Hel nodded for Sirius to go and have fun before she was swept off her feet by her father.
Loki was one of the most skilled magicians on Asgard, so it came as no surprise for Hel when he was able to help harness some of her magic and they began to dance on dark green smoke and shadow. The shadows allowed them to dance smoothly and gracefully and let them float along the ballroom floor. It was one of her favourite ways to dance. She couldn't wait until she learned how her father did it.
"Hel, I want you to be careful," Loki said and Hel made a confused face.
"What do you mean? We've done this a million times before," Hel said, thinking her father was referring to their dance.
"No, something has happened. I can feel it. Watch out for your friends, Hel, and keep a close eye on them. They are foreigners on Asgard, and while they may learn more things than anyone on Midgard, that also puts them at risk."
Hel nodded in understanding. "Of course, Father, I'm always careful."
