Chapter 3

Sonic dragged himself back onto the beach in agony, wet and cold. He had dislocated his right shoulder, received a cut on both his left wrist and knee. The cut on his wrist stung from the saltwater, the blood stained the once white gloves as he stayed on all fours with all the strength he had left. Sonic could still hear his fathers voice, saying that he will never find the answers.
But I will! I will! He reminded himself. His arms are giving up, buckling and shaking underneath his body weight.
"Come on, Sonic! Get up!" He scolded himself, using his last strength to get himself back up. Once on his tired, buckling legs, Sonic got back into his run-up position, ready to head out again. This time, the power of speed surged through his body faster with his anger and determination.
Do it for yourself! Sonic yelled in his thoughts, then sped across the beach with a sonic boom, breaking the sound barrier.

He ran across the dark ocean once again, the rain picked up and the waves got larger in size. But Sonic didn't stop, instead, he only sped up, creating waves of his own behind him. When the largest wave began to make its way to Sonic, the blue hedgehog formed a plan. As soon as the wave reached him, Sonic dived into it. Once it passed, the blue hedgehog was holding tight onto a boulder, climbing up it with all remaining strength. Once he reached the top, Sonic immediately slipped and fell into the sea.

Sonic began to sink deeper and deeper into the abyss, seeing that no matter how hard he reached for the surface, the further he fell down, but this still wasn't going to stop him. With everything in his power, Sonic forced himself towards the surface. The saltwater attempted to slow him down by sending stinging pain through his cuts.
Ignore that, keep pushing!

Sonic almost ran out of breath, but he burst through the surface of the roaring sea, refilling his lungs with one quick, but panicked breath. The waves threatened to push him down again, creating more panic for the hedgehog. Sonic spun around, looking for anything he could hold onto so he wouldn't drown. There was a piece of driftwood nearby and Sonic didn't hesitate to go for it. He made his way to the driftwood, his power of speed uneffective in underwater conditions. But hey, at least he made it. Pushing his body onto the plank of wood, Sonic began to regret this decision.

Sonic! What were you thinking?! You know you can't swim! Now, you're too far out to get back! Sonic slammed his head down on the wood, clutching his hands into fists, he was so mad at himself for making this stupid decision. In fact, he wouldn't even care if he died here. Looking up ahead, Sonic hoped to see land, but instead, three black tall sails sliced through the waves. Orcas.
"Oh great." Sonic muttered, getting back on his legs almost at an instant, but it was too late already.
An orca came out of nowhere and smashed its head into the driftwood, breaking it in half and sending Sonic flying. The blue hedgehog slammed into the ocean like a falling tree, sinking in as soon as he landed. Looking around him, he saw that there were more than just three orcas, this was a whole pod.

Seriously? Sonic groaned and made his way back up to the surface. Sonic only managed to catch one breath before an orca tail smacked him back into the dark ocean. Sonic swore he would have fainted right there, lucky he didn't. He tried to head back to surface again, but yet again, another orca grabbed him by the waist with its teeth, cutting through Sonic's quills and skin easily and began to push him deeper into the ocean, further away from the surface. Sonic began to panic. He didn't think, but he grabbed the orca by its top jaw and a bolt of electricity came from him and shocked the orca. It let go of him immediately and dove deeper into the abyss, leaving Sonic to be confused.

That was weird, but I can definitely use that to my advantage...if I can get it to work again. Sonic thought, but he couldn't waste any more time underwater. He rushed for the surface, kicking his legs hard. Suddenly, Sonic felt a stinging pain on his right leg and he screamed, but no one would hear him. The water around Sonic grew red, not just with his previous cuts, but the bite mark left by the orca as well. Sonic reached out for the surface, the moonlight that was very dim from all the storm clouds above. Sonic took one look down and saw an orcas mouth latched onto his right ankle.

Get off! Get off! Sonic tried to scream, but as soon as he opened his mouth, water ran through and into his lungs. Sonic began to cough, but more water went down his throat instead of out. Sonic felt his body weaken, his lungs began to give in as the orca dragged him deeper into the darkness. His body gave a jolt of energy which Sonic didn't even realise, and that jolt shot through the whale and it parted from him. Sonic took this chance and rushed up to the surface.

Sonic gasped for air while he attempted to stay afloat. His ankle was bleeding hard from the orca bite, and so was his waist. His cuts stung so badly with saltwater that even he himself was about to cry. Suddenly, an orca tail came up below Sonic and it sent him flying into the sky. The bad part is that he landed on his right arm onto a pretty hard rock. That's when he heard a crack. His arm broke.
"Ow...ow...ow..." Sonic hissed as he tried to climb the rock with only one arm.

He wasn't even halfway up when another orca grabbed him with its teeth and began to pull him down once more. The pain was unbearable, he didn't even realise that he electrocuted the orca again. Sonic rushed for the surface as soon as the orca let go, he burst into a gasp as soon as the air was accessible. Sonic only has that little ability, so he has to use it right. Looking down, despite the water being red from his own blood, Sonic still saw an orca charging up to him. He thought fast, thinking back to his father, his mother, how they kept all those secrets from him for more than a dozen years. All those angered thoughts sent a bolt of blue lightning through the water and shocked the orca that was headed his way. Sonic took a very deep breath in and purposely slid into the water, right into the pod of orcas below.

Sonic battled the orcas, even with a broken arm. When an orca would hit him, he would hit it right back with a bolt of blue lightning. The orcas' numbers dropped but Sonic, in fact, hasn't won. An orca came out of nowhere with an open mouth, it left a small cut on his right cheek and it dragged Sonic by his right arm, his broken arm. The orca dragged him across the surface of the ocean. Sonic choked and gasped for air as the water kept being driven into his mouth. With his only arm, Sonic struggled to grab even just one of his quills. Eventually, he did and he jabbed that tiny blue quill into the orca's upper jaw. It wailed and let go of Sonic, who took his chance and grabbed its upper jaw and swung himself onto its back. The orca leapt into the air, then dove its back into the ocean, attempting to throw Sonic off. But the blue hedgehog was holding tight onto this orca's dorsal fin and he wasn't going to let go anytime soon.

The orca bounces around, even more, rougher, Sonic begins to feel dizzier, but still, he isn't going to let go. The orca leapt back up into the air and fell back into the sea on its back, pushing Sonic closer to its back. It started to swim across the surface again at super high speed, but obviously not as fast as Sonic. The blue hedgehog spotted a large piece of seaweed and when the orca passed it, Sonic grabbed it and with one quick movement, he swung it around the orca's top jaw. This was his leash, this was his way to win over this thing. The orca struggled, it flapped its tail furiously as it tried to shake Sonic off, but it soon gave up and peacefully swam with the blue hedgehog on its back.

Sonic realised this and he was shocked. He had never seen this side of orcas before, he never knew that they were soft and kind creatures.
"Hey...hey, buddy." He gasped with amazement, rubbing the orca next to its eyes right behind its mouth. This peaceful creature hummed out a beautiful whale song and Sonic smiled. Looking up ahead, Sonic gasped at what they were headed for: it was an island, surrounded by storm clouds that released blue lightning, just like the hedgehog himself.
"Of course!" Sonic gasped as the orca swam towards it just a little bit faster, raising Sonics excitement.
"Of course, it has to be the source of my powers! Of course, it had to be the Island of Mysteries! Of course it had to be Aneitahei!"
