The pirates went about their daily business, and Ashelin watched them with interest. There didn't seem to be any particular rhyme or reason to what they were doing, and she wondered if this place was just where they lived, and not necessarily where they worked. Most of them were just drinking and hanging out.
She didn't see Vaas, and wondered if he was watching her.
Every once in awhile a random pirate would enter the cage and pet her a bit, rattling off soft questions in Spanish. She tried to stay stoic but couldn't help shrinking away from some of the cruelly tender touches. One slapped her when she recoiled from his fingers on her face, and his voice rose to anger. He left, thankfully, and she flexed her jaw, painfully aware of the sting of his hand.
Ashelin tried not to be afraid. She tried not to wonder what the hell she'd gotten herself into.
By the time night fell, her legs were numb. Three fires raged nearby, with delicious smelling meat slow roasting over them.
Her mouth watered.
Pirates gathered around the fires, drinking and hollering, but ignoring her. She figured that was probably a good thing.
Just when she could barely stand the hunger anymore, two pirates strode to her cage from the shadows. She studied their hands for any sign of food or drink, and her heart sank when she saw none.
They grabbed her by the arms and lifted her to a standing, but her legs responded like jelly and they simply dragged her along. The other pirates hooted and whistled at her on the way by, and she scanned the crowd for Vaas. He was nowhere to be seen. Was she to be taken to him?
They brought her through an open doorway into a wooden hut, and she caught a glimpse of a modest kitchen and dining area before being whisked through another doorway into a bedroom. Her breath caught in her throat when she noticed two loops of rope hanging from the ceiling.
She tried to protest but only a grunt came out. It was no use anyway, with her still dead legs. They easily slipped her slender wrists into their little nooses.
She hung limply, legs starting to prickle and tingle and wake up. She glared at her captors, not sure how to react, mind racing over how to escape. This wasn't how this was supposed to go.
One snapped his fingers at the other, and he pulled a long silk cloth from his pocket. Upon retrieving it, he moved to cover her eyes with the cloth.
"Fuck off!" She thrashed away from him. He grabbed the back of her throat and pulled her face inches from his.
"Vaas says I blindfold you," he hissed, "so I fucking blindfold you." He let go of her and made quick work of tying the fabric over her eyes.
