The Freedom of Socks
A/N: This one doesn't have Spidey in it, but I figured I'd publish it anyways.
One thing Tony absolutely loves about socks is that if the cut is low enough no one can see them when you put shoes on, which means it absolutely doesn't matter what pattern is on the socks.
Now, all of these stuffy meetings and business conferences may mean he had to style his hair and wear a fancy suit and tie, but there's two things that he had freedom in:
The first is his sunglasses, which he enjoys matching to the color of his tie but which he sadly has to take off every once in a while.
The second is his socks. His amazing, weird socks that he never has to take off ever. His socks that whenever a stuffy businessman or nosy reporter is bothering him, he can think smugly of and feel a bit better because wearing these socks is a kind of victory to him. A victory that no one here anymore can completely take away his freedom and turn him into a pod person. He is his own person, and he is going to remind himself of that every way possible.
And so, his sock drawer was born. A drawer filled with a variety of socks that can be hidden in a shoe and secretly flaunted around at stuffy events. And he loves his sock drawer.
His favorite pair of socks is a custom-made pair that has the pattern of the arc reactor all over them. Since they're a pair of his socks they automatically remind him of freedom and independence, but the pattern also reminds him of what he's capable of. It reminds him that he's capable of using his mind to get out of impossible situations and building things unimaginable. That he's capable of what was previously thought impossible. And he knows that he sorely needs that reminder as often as he can get as his constant battle with depression and self-deprecation wages onward.
It may seem silly, his obsession with socks. But to him, it makes his day whenever he's reminded of what he's wearing, and that's all that matters.
