Come and Get It
Chapter 6
Ringo tried to suppress a sigh. He didn't want to seem rude or impatient, but he desperately wanted to see George. After the incident with John, the doctors were still attempting to suppress his coughs and increase his breathing, at least that's what the group was told. Ringo's mind kept being plagued with fears and worries of George's situation and he he just wanted them to end. It wasn't particularly helping either that Paul was still shaken from his visit.
"Ringo, y' okay?" Paul looked up and asked from the chair beside him. "Yeah, I'm fine." He tried to assure. Ringo, in fact, wasn't sure if he was fine. The pressure was becoming too much, and he really just wanted to see his friend. Paul mumbled a bit more but then went back to being melancholy. This calm continued on for another couple of minutes, until...
"Hey, you guys hear that?" Paul pointed out. Ringo listened closer and could make out a large crowd of footsteps. They picked up in sound, and suddenly a group of reporters practically burst through the door. The three band members stood up defensively while Brian stayed sitting, shocked. Assorted and clashing yells of questions filled the hall from the livid reporters. Ringo noticed that there were no cameramen, the hospital must've kept them from going inside. The press finally caught on, he knew it was only a matter of time, but that didn't stop John from getting any less angry.
"What the fook do ya think you're doin'?!" He yelled and stepped forward to face them. They just continued shouting questions and fiddling with their notes. "Our guitarist just got freakin' shot and you're here coining in! You heartless bastards!" He was getting red faced, and Brian stepped in to try and cut him off. "Shove off Brian." John continued, stepping in front of him. "You idiots want something to report on? Well report on this!" He continued with a sentence filled with more curse words than countable, some of which probably didn't even exist. "John! That's enough!" Brian screamed, obviously wanting to protect their reputation from being even more tarnished.
"You all need to leave, now. I'm sorry for John's outburst, but this is a lot for the boys to handle. I've already called security to clear you out." The reporters sighed and puzzled at this, but eventually, (and very reluctantly), left when security arrived. Ringo was glad Brian seemed to be on their side this time, understanding that they simply couldn't deal with the press right now. He gave a thankful yet weak smile to the manager, who was now returning to his seat.
"Those bastards." Paul muttered. Ringo nodded while John was still fuming; and kicking a bottle cap he found across the floor.
It was now around 15 minutes later when the hospital staff made their way out of George's room. "He's doing better, but we only have time for one more visitor before we need to start the procedure." Stated the doctor. Ringo nodded and Paul gave him a thumbs up. Slowly getting up and stepping towards the door, his chest felt full of excitement, fear, and extreme sadness all in one. He was finally going to see George.
