Chapter Three
"Everyone, please welcome your new classmate, Dee."
Mr. Jirgekoth put a hand on Dee's shoulder, welcomingly, and smiled at everyone. Em whispered to me. "Hey Caroline...what do you feel about that new kid? He seems kind of melancholy, don't you think?" I smiled at Em, seeing Dee stare at the ground nervously, then bit my lip.
He seems like the kind of kid who just keeps to himself... maybe I can make him feel more welcome... Dee shook his dark purple hair over his eyes. "How do you do..." He spoke in a shaky voice, seeming frightened and he was holding his head in his hands, which made me a little worried. I hope he's okay... I thought.
Dee trembled lightly and sneezed, wiping his nose with the back of his hand. Mr. Jirgekoth handed him a tissue and Dee blew his nose in it. "Dee, if you wish to go and rest..." Dee immediately shook his head, whispering, "I'm fine." Mr. Jirgekoth look concerned but reluctantly agreed. "Alright then, if you have trouble, I will lend a hand." Dee nodded and took the empty space beside me.
I glanced over at Dee. He looked really bad. He was pale...wait, was that a tail I saw? I blinked and saw a small black tail lightly poke Dee in the face, then a small dragon came on his chest and Dee stroked its back, sniffling and wiping his nose with the tissue. The dragon used its tail to wipe mucus remaining from his nose.
I stared at Dee for a little while longer then resumed paying attention to Mr. Jirgekoth, who was explaining the history of elements and the start of magic and civilization. "Now then, students, the history of magic dates back as far as Pliroa and Eibeas, the only two worlds to ever conjoin and create civilization. The population of both worlds was small, thus they discovered each other and joined forces, creating more proliferation in the world and creating life as we know it.
Everything you see here today was created on the magical forces on the lands of Pliroa and Eibeas. Nothing is ever new, or old. It only takes time to be discovered. Magic, however, takes time, especially when one is trying hard to master all the Elements, such as all the Superiors here and Headmaster Raphael himself." He opened his hands, palms facing up, and large trees grew in the room, making a forest around all students.
Mr. Jirgekoth walked to the center of the class then turned to face everyone, and rose his hands in the air. "The elements all speak to each one of us, and the powers we have today will grow stronger as time passes, but, we must all be wise and let the elements guide us towards our destiny." He swept his hands in a large circle and the forest disappeared. "If we even make the slightest mistake in the Magical Universe, everyone's universe outside of ours could suffer greatly."
My eyes opened wide. The entire universe could suffer? That's horrible.
Em nudged me, smiling. "Don't worry Caroline, every Universe is well protected with magic from this Institute. Nothing bad will happen." I bit my lower lip again. Dang, I really need to break this habit of mine, or I'm going to end up with a bloody lip someday!
Em noticed that I was biting my lip and gently poked it, smiling at me. "You really need to stop this habit of yours..." I blushed and hid my face a little, whispering to him. "Stop that, you're embarrassing me." Em laughed lightly, winking at me. "That's my job." I stuck my tongue out at him, then heard Mr. Jirgekoth clear his throat and clap his hands, signaling the end of class.
"Alright class, see you tomorrow! Be sure to practice with your powers every chance you get and sharpen your skills wisely!" I turned to Em. "Hey, do you mind if I catch up with you later? I'm going to go try and talk to Dee, and make him feel welcome to Wixsity Institute." Em nodded. "Alright, Caroline, talk to you later!" I rushed out of class, looking around for Dee. Hmm...if I was new, where would I go? I shrugged. Headmaster Raphael would need to talk to me soon. I wouldn't be late to his office.
I walked over to the dome and stepped through the split, reaching Headmaster Raphael's office, surprised to find Dee there, sitting on the couch. "Oh!" I exclaimed as I reached the dual floor. "I'm sorry, Headmaster, I didn't realize you were occupied." He smiled at me. "That's quite alright Caroline. Have a seat, please."
I took a seat in front of the Headmaster. "Yes, sir?" He crossed his hands and leaned forward. "Caroline, I don't usually ask this of students, but would you make time to show Dee around Wixsity? I realize you are also still new to this school, but I feel that I can trust you." I nodded. "Yes, sir, I would be pleased to show Dee around the Institute." Headmaster Raphael smiled. "Wonderful." He turned to Dee. "Dee, please do not hesitate to come up to see me should you have any questions or concerns at all. Understand?" Dee nodded silently.
I smiled to myself. He sure is shy...I hope I can get him to open up a little. I stood up from the chair and held my hand out to Dee. "Shall we get going then?" Dee stood up and walked out without a word. I dropped my hand, a little disappointed. Headmaster Raphael stood up and patted my shoulder. "Don't get discouraged, dear. He will open up sometime. Dee is just shy." I nodded. "You're right, Headmaster. If anyone can open him up, I can."
I stepped out of the Headmasters office, and spotted Dee on the first floor, waiting for me, clutching a toy dragon to his chest. I raised an eyebrow. A stuffed dragon? I thought it was real. I shook my head, not wanting to mentally berate him, and smiled politely, as I led him to the cafeteria first. "Here is where everyone gathers with friends for meals. The food is pretty good, and they serve something new every day. Do you want a snack right now?" Dee shook his head. "Okay, let's move on..."
"Lastly, here is the battle arena, where students use powers against each other to test their abilities. We can also come here to practice during lunch break when class isn't in session." I turned to him. "Was everything alright so far, Dee?" He nodded, stroking the stuffed dragon's head.
"Does your dragon have a name?" I asked Dee. He nodded. "Luna." "That's pretty. I hope we can be good friends someday." I held my hand out. He stared at it then gave me his pinky finger. I giggled a bit then wrapped my pinky around his. "Thank you." Dee smiled a little at me. I smiled back. "You're welcome, Dee. You can always trust me."
