Chapter Two: Regrets

I don't remember how I ended up back at the house, or how I managed to find the living room. The old pink couch was lit by a dim fire coming from the wood stove. My feet lead me to stand in front of the couch. Stains of blood lingered on the floor but mostly around the cushions that Aderes body laid on.

Slowly, I dragged a nearby chair and sat in front of her. Her face had paled to a ghostly white pale blue color that easily came along with death. Her face was spattered with blood along with her exposed chest. Her shirt had been torn open where the stone had ripped itself out of her. Around the edges of the hole, her skin was cover in green and light blue bruises. Aderes hair was white, finally ridding her of most of her brown locks. There were strands of brown here and there. She had almost completed her transformation. She was remembering who she was and her body began to pump her powers back in her veins. In this life she was Sarah Dawn. But no one saw who she really was. Aderes, the Protector of the Heavens.

"I wish I had told you why." I whispered into the empty room. "This is my fault."

"When the Cross Stone was stolen I should have looked for you sooner. I didn't realize Jay would be capable of stealing it himself." I didn't recognize my own voice anymore. It was too ruff. "It doesn't make sense. He loved you. As much as it makes me sick he did. He couldn't help it."

After creating Jayden from my own soul and power, it became increasingly aware that we shared more than just identical looks. He knew things only I could've ever known and memories. We unfortunately shared the same driven passion that couldn't be stopped. Falling for a girl we could never have.

"I should've told you why I banished you, Aderes." I swallowed the lump in my throat. "You do stupid things for people you love. I should have never created Jayden. He was the one that hurt you. I shouldn't have left you alone that night-" I could still hear her cries and see the agony in her eyes. She had came to me in shredded pieces of her blue silk robe.

"I've never felt such pain, Rail. They took parts of me away." She sobs. I feel like she is falling apart completely. "You will never understand what they took from me."

I brush her white hair out of her face as tears fall from her eyes. "Whatever they took Aderes I swear I will return it to you."

"You cannot return what they have stolen from me." She lets out a shrill of screams clawing at her skin.

The painful memory was still fresh.

"What did they take from you?" I ask.

Aderes shakes her head. "I cannot tell you, Rail."

"Of course you can my love. There is nothing you can say that will make me leave your side." I brush her hair out of her tearful eyes.

"I cannot tell you." She whispers.

"Please!" I beg pleading with my green eyes. I shake her shoulders. "Tell me what happened."

Aderes closes her eyes, tears still fall down her cheeks. I cup her face in my hands. Normally she would pull away from such a gesture. Instead she leans into it. She holds her hands over mine keeping my hands in place. See opens her eyes, a tear falls as she whispers, "They took away my purity, Rail."

I turned my face away from the lifeless Aderes. All I felt was shame. Shame that I had failed to get my revenge. Shame that I never forced Aderes to tell me who did it. I felt shame for thinking she was safer on Earth than with me. The wooden chair I sat in broke into a million pieces when it hit the old stone wall. I let out a cry as I began to flip over anything my hands could touch. An old tin bowl, empty boxes, tables.

My hand froze the moment I realized what my hand grabbed next. I picked it up from the bloody stain on the floor. I felt the other half of the Cross Stone warm in the presence of its other half. A shimmer of green light shined through my jeans pocket. Carefully I held it in my shaking hand. Heat was pulsing through the stones as I pushed both pieces together. Wind blew around the room so fast it started to whistle. The green in the stone lit the room and a line of white light sealed them together, making it whole again.

A morbid idea came to mind. I didn't want to touch her lifeless body but just maybe..

I placed the Cross Stone carefully into the hole in Aderes chest. Her blue skin was cold as I rubbed my thumb over her cheek. "Please wake up." I gasp when I touched the torn muscles in her chest as I laid the stone in her ripped heart. I clamped my jaw shut, suppressing the gag that threaten to surface.

Don't do lose it you moron.

Dropping the stone I pulled my hand out that was now covered in blood. I closed my eyes and began to whisper a prayer that was last spoken in the Heavens from a leader of the Roman Gipsys. There was only a slim chance that this might work. Maybe with the stone complete, it would be powerful enough to bring Aderes back.

What if it doesn't..what will you do then? A voice said. I knew exactly what I would do. I would finally kill Jay. Forever this time. Along with myself.

I continued to say the prayer until I made it to the end. I didn't want to open my eyes. I didn't want to see that the Cross Stone didn't work. I didn't want to see her dead. But she was. Her skin was still as cold as before. I prayed again and again but nothing happened.

My squeezed my eyes close and pulled on my hair. I fought back the tears that threaten to fall. I wanted to die. I wanted to kill. I wanted her back. I pushed myself off of the floor and punched through the wall. Drywall dust lingered in the air. But I kept punching. It wasn't long before the whole wall was turned into dust. I fell to my knees and felt the numbness take over. I didn't want to feel anymore pain. I didn't want to feel the lost of Aderes death.

Instead I felt electricity. Warmth spread through out my whole body as a soft hand held my cheek. I kept my eyes closed fearing that it was just an illusion. The hand wiped away the silent tears that had fallen without my permission. I chocked on a sob when I heard an angels voice say my name.
